Isaiah 17:1 (NASB) New American Standard Bible

1 Oracle on Damascus: Lo, Damascus shall cease to be a city and become a ruin;
2 Her cities shall be forever abandoned, given over to flocks to lie in undisturbed.
3 The fortress shall be lost to Ephraim and the kingdom to Damascus; The remnant of Aram shall have the same glory as the Israelites, says the LORD of hosts.
4 On that day The glory of Jacob shall fade, and his full body grow thin,
5 Like the reaper's mere armful of stalks when he gathers the standing grain; Or as when one gleans the ears in the Valley of Rephaim.
6 Only a scattering of grapes shall be left! As when an olive tree has been beaten, Two or three olives remain at the very top, four or five on its fruitful branches, says the LORD, the God of Israel.
7 On that day man shall look to his maker, his eyes turned toward the Holy One of Israel.
8 He shall not look to the altars, his handiwork, nor shall he regard what his fingers have made: the sacred poles or the incense stands.
9 On that day his strong cities shall be like those abandoned by the Hivites and Amorites When faced with the children of Israel: they shall be laid waste.
10 For you have forgotten God, your savior, and remembered not the Rock, your strength. Therefore, though you plant your pagan plants and set out your foreign vine slips,
11 Though you make them grow the day you plant them and make your sprouts blossom on the next morning, The harvest shall disappear on the day of the grievous blow, the incurable blight.
12 Ah! the roaring of many peoples that roar like the roar of the seas! The surging of nations that surge like the surging of mighty waves!
13 But God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far away; Windswept, like chaff on the mountains, like tumbleweed in a storm.
14 In the evening, they spread terror, before morning, they are gone! Such is the portion of those who despoil us, the lot of those who plunder us.

2 The cities H5892 of Aroer H6177 are forsaken H5800 : they shall be H1961 for flocks H5739 , which shall lie down H7257 , and none H369 W-NPAR shall make them afraid H2729 .
3 The fortress H4013 also shall cease H7673 from Ephraim H669 , and the kingdom H4467 from Damascus H1834 , and the remnant H7605 of Syria H758 EMS : they shall be H1961 as the glory H3519 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 .
4 And in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , that the glory H3519 of Jacob H3290 shall be made thin H1809 , and the fatness H4924 of his flesh H1320 CMS-3MS shall wax lean H7329 .
5 And it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS as when the harvest man H7105 NMS gathereth H622 the corn H7054 , and reapeth H7114 the ears H7641 with his arm H2220 ; and it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS as he that gathereth H3950 ears H7641 in the valley H6010 B-CMS of Rephaim H7497 .
6 Yet gleaning grapes H5955 shall be left H7604 in it , as the shaking H5363 of an olive tree H2132 NMS , two H8147 ONUM or three H7969 NFS berries H1620 in the top H7218 B-NMS of the uppermost bough H534 , four H702 MMS or five H2568 in the outermost fruitful H6509 branches H5585 thereof , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 LMS .
7 At that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS shall a man H120 D-NMS look H8159 to H5921 PREP his Maker H6213 , and his eyes H5869 W-CFD-3MS shall have respect H7200 to H413 PREP the Holy One H6918 of Israel H3478 .
8 And he shall not H3808 W-NPAR look H8159 to H413 PREP the altars H4196 , the work H4639 M-CMS of his hands H3027 CFD-3MS , neither H3808 W-NPAR shall respect H7200 VQY3MS that which H834 W-RPRO his fingers H676 have made H6213 VQQ3MP , either the groves H842 , or the images H2553 .
9 In that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS shall his strong H4581 cities H5892 be H1961 VQY3MP as a forsaken H5800 bough H2793 , and an uppermost branch H534 , which H834 RPRO they left H5800 because H6440 M-CMP of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 : and there shall be H1961 W-VQQ3FS desolation H8077 .
10 Because H3588 CONJ thou hast forgotten H7911 the God H430 CDP of thy salvation H3468 , and hast not H3808 NADV been mindful H2142 of the rock H6697 W-NMS of thy strength H4581 , therefore H3651 ADV shalt thou plant H5193 pleasant H5282 plants H5194 , and shalt set H2232 it with strange H2114 VQPMS slips H2156 :
11 In the day H3117 B-NMS shalt thou make thy plant H5194 to grow H7735 , and in the morning H1242 shalt thou make thy seed H2233 to flourish H6524 : but the harvest H7105 NMS shall be a heap H5067 in the day H3117 B-NMS of grief H2470 and of desperate H605 sorrow H3511 .
12 Woe H1945 to the multitude H1995 of many H7227 AMP people H5971 NMP , which make a noise H1993 like the noise H1993 of the seas H3220 NMP ; and to the rushing H7588 of nations H3816 , that make a rushing H7582 like the rushing H7588 of mighty H3524 AMP waters H4325 OMD !
13 The nations H3816 shall rush H7582 like the rushing H7588 of many H7227 AMP waters H4325 OMD : but God shall rebuke H1605 them , and they shall flee H5127 far off H4801 , and shall be chased H7291 as the chaff H4671 of the mountains H2022 NMP before H6440 L-CMP the wind H7307 NFS , and like a rolling thing H1534 before H6440 L-CMP the whirlwind H5492 NFS .
14 And behold H2009 IJEC at eveningtide H6256 L-CMS trouble H1091 ; and before H2962 B-ADV the morning H1242 NMS he is not H369 . This H2088 DPRO is the portion H2506 CMS of them that spoil H8154 us , and the lot H1486 of them that rob H962 us .
