Job 6:1 (NASB) New American Standard Bible

1 Then Job answered and said:
2 Ah, could my anguish but be measured and my calamity laid with it in the scales,
3 They would now outweigh the sands of the sea! Because of this I speak without restraint.
4 For the arrows of the Almighty pierce me, and my spirit drinks in their poison; the terrors of God are arrayed against me.
5 Does the wild ass bray when he has grass? Does the ox low over his fodder?
6 Can a thing insipid be eaten without salt? Is there flavor in the white of an egg?
7 I refuse to touch them; they are loathsome food to me.
8 Oh, that I might have my request, and that God would grant what I long for:
9 Even that God would decide to crush me, that he would put forth his hand and cut me off!
10 Then I should still have consolation and could exult through unremitting pain, because I have not transgressed the commands of the Holy One.
11 What strength have I that I should endure, and what is my limit that I should be patient?
12 Have I the strength of stones, or is my flesh of bronze?
13 Have I no helper, and has advice deserted me?
14 A friend owes kindness to one in despair, though he have forsaken the fear of the Almighty.
15 My brethren are undependable as a brook, as watercourses that run dry in the wadies;
16 Though they may be black with ice, and with snow heaped upon them,
17 Yet once they flow, they cease to be; in the heat, they disappear from their place.
18 Caravans turn aside from their routes; they go into the desert and perish.
19 The caravans of Tema search, the companies of Sheba have hopes;
20 They are disappointed, though they were confident; they come there and are frustrated.
21 It is thus that you have now become for me; you see a terrifying thing and are afraid.
22 Have I asked you to give me anything, to offer a gift for me from your possessions,
23 Or to deliver me from the enemy, or to redeem me from oppressors?
24 Teach me, and I will be silent; prove to me wherein I have erred.
25 How agreeable are honest words; yet how unconvincing is your argument!
26 Do you consider your words as proof, but the sayings of a desperate man as wind?
27 You would even cast lots for the orphan, and would barter away your friend!
28 Come, now, give me your attention; surely I will not lie to your face.
29 Think it over; let there be no injustice. Think it over; I still am right.
30 Is there insincerity on my tongue, or cannot my taste discern falsehood?

4 For H3588 CONJ the arrows H2671 CMP of the Almighty H7706 NAME-4MS are within H5978 PREP-1MS me , the poison H2534 CMS-3MP whereof H834 RPRO drinketh up H8354 VQQ3FS my spirit H7307 GFS-1MS : the terrors H1161 CMP of God H433 NAME-4MS do set themselves in array against H6186 VQQ3MP-1MS me .

12 Is my strength H3581 CMS the strength H3581 CMS-1MS of stones H68 NFP ? or is my flesh H1320 CMS-1MS of brass H5153 AMS ?

14 To him that is afflicted H4523 LD-AMS pity H2617 NMS should be showed from his friend H7453 CMS-3MS ; but he forsaketh H5800 VQY3MS the fear H3374 W-CFS of the Almighty H7706 EDS .

17 What time H6256 B-CFS they wax warm H2215 VUY3MP , they vanish H6789 VNQ3MP : when it is hot H2522 , they are consumed H1846 VNQ3MP out of their place H4725 M-VQFA-3MP .
18 The paths H734 CFP of their way H1870 NMS-3MP are turned aside H3943 VNY3MP ; they go H5927 VQY3MP to nothing H8414 B-AMS , and perish H6 W-VQY3MP .
19 The troops H734 CFP of Tema H8485 TRIB looked H5027 VHQ3MP , the companies H1979 CFS of Sheba H7614 TRIB waited H6960 VPQ3MP for H3926 them .
20 They were confounded H954 VQQ3MP because H3588 CONJ they had hoped H982 ADV ; they came H935 VQQ3MP thither H5704 PREP-3FS , and were ashamed H2659 W-VQY3MP .

23 Or , Deliver H4422 W-VPI2MS-1MS me from the enemy\'s hand H3027 M-GFS ? or , Redeem H6299 VQY2MP-1MS me from the hand H3027 WM-GFS of the mighty H6184 AMP ?
24 Teach H3384 VHI2MS-1MS me , and I H589 W-PPRO-1MS will hold my tongue H2790 VHY1MS : and cause me to understand H995 VHI2MP wherein H4100 W-IPRO I have erred H7686 VQQ1MS .
25 How H4100 IPRO forcible H4834 VNQ3MP are right H3476 NMS words H561 CMP ! but what H4100 IPRO doth your arguing H3198 VHY3MS reprove H3198 VHFA ?
26 Do ye imagine H2803 VQY2MP to reprove H3198 IL-VHFC words H4405 NFP , and the speeches H561 CMP of one that is desperate H2976 VNPMS , which are as wind H7307 WL-NMS ?
27 Yea H637 CONJ , ye overwhelm H5307 VHY2MP the fatherless H3490 NMS , and ye dig H3738 W-VQY2MP a pit for H5921 PREP your friend H7453 CMS-2MP .
28 Now H6258 W-ADV therefore be content H2974 VHI2MP , look H6437 VQI2MP upon me ; for it is evident unto H5921 W-PREP you if H518 PART I lie H3576 VPY1MS .
29 Return H7725 VQI2MP , I pray you H4994 IJEC , let it not H408 NPAR be H1961 VQI3FS iniquity H5766 NFS ; yea , return H7725 W-VQI2FP again H5750 ADV , my righteousness H6664 CMS-1MS is in it .
30 Is there H3426 I-ADV iniquity H5766 NFS in my tongue H3956 B-CMS-1MS ? cannot H3808 NADV my taste H2441 CMS-1MS discern H995 VQY3MS perverse things H1942 NFP ?
