Luke 13:1 (NASB) New American Standard Bible

1 At that time some people who were present there told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices.
2 He said to them in reply, "Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were greater sinners than all other Galileans?
3 By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!
4 Or those eighteen people who were killed when the tower at Siloam fell on them-- do you think they were more guilty than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem?
5 By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!"
6 And he told them this parable: "There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard, and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none,
7 he said to the gardener, 'For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. (So) cut it down. Why should it exhaust the soil?'
8 He said to him in reply, 'Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it;
9 it may bear fruit in the future. If not you can cut it down.'"
10 He was teaching in a synagogue on the sabbath.
11 And a woman was there who for eighteen years had been crippled by a spirit; she was bent over, completely incapable of standing erect.
12 When Jesus saw her, he called to her and said, "Woman, you are set free of your infirmity."
13 He laid his hands on her, and she at once stood up straight and glorified God.
14 But the leader of the synagogue, indignant that Jesus had cured on the sabbath, said to the crowd in reply, "There are six days when work should be done. Come on those days to be cured, not on the sabbath day."
15 The Lord said to him in reply, "Hypocrites! Does not each one of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger and lead it out for watering?
16 This daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound for eighteen years now, ought she not to have been set free on the sabbath day from this bondage?"
17 When he said this, all his adversaries were humiliated; and the whole crowd rejoiced at all the splendid deeds done by him.
18 Then he said, "What is the kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it?
19 It is like a mustard seed that a person took and planted in the garden. When it was fully grown, it became a large bush and 'the birds of the sky dwelt in its branches.'"
20 Again he said, "To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?
21 It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed (in) with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch of dough was leavened."
22 He passed through towns and villages, teaching as he went and making his way to Jerusalem.
23 Someone asked him, "Lord, will only a few people be saved?" He answered them,
24 "Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough.
25 After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, 'Lord, open the door for us.' He will say to you in reply, 'I do not know where you are from.'
26 And you will say, 'We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.'
27 Then he will say to you, 'I do not know where (you) are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!'
28 And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and you yourselves cast out.
29 And people will come from the east and the west and from the north and the south and will recline at table in the kingdom of God.
30 For behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last."
31 At that time some Pharisees came to him and said, "Go away, leave this area because Herod wants to kill you."
32 He replied, "Go and tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and I perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I accomplish my purpose.
33 Yet I must continue on my way today, tomorrow, and the following day, for it is impossible that a prophet should die outside of Jerusalem.'
34 "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how many times I yearned to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were unwilling!
35 Behold, your house will be abandoned. (But) I tell you, you will not see me until (the time comes when) you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'"

8 And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM answering G611 V-AOP-NSM said G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Lord G2962 N-VSM , let it alone G863 V-2AAM-2S this G3588 T-ASN year G2094 N-ASN also G2532 CONJ , till G2193 CONJ I shall dig G4626 V-AAS-1S about G4012 PREP it G846 P-ASF , and G2532 CONJ dung G906 V-2AAS-1S it :
9 And if G2579 COND-C it G3303 PRT bear G4160 V-AAS-3S fruit G2590 N-ASM , well : and if not G1490 , then after that PREP thou shalt cut it down G1581 V-FAI-2S .
10 And G1161 CONJ he was G2258 V-IXI-3S teaching G1321 V-PAP-NSM in G1722 PREP one G3391 of G3588 T-GPF the G3588 T-GPF synagogues G4864 N-GPF on G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DPN sabbath G4521 N-DPN .
11 And G2532 CONJ , behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , there was G2258 V-IXI-3S a woman G1135 N-NSF which had G2192 V-PAP-NSF a spirit G4151 N-ASN of infirmity G769 N-GSF eighteen G1176 A-NUI years G2094 N-APN , and G2532 CONJ was G2258 V-IXI-3S bowed together G4794 V-PAP-NSF , and G2532 CONJ could G1410 V-PNP-NSF in no wise G3361 PRT-N lift up G352 V-AAN herself .
12 And G1161 CONJ when Jesus G2424 N-NSM saw G1492 V-2AAP-NSM her G846 P-ASF , he called G4377 V-AAI-3S her to him , and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto her G846 P-DSF , Woman G1135 N-VSF , thou art loosed G630 V-RPI-2S from thine G3588 T-GSF infirmity G769 N-GSF .
13 And G2532 CONJ he G3588 T-APF laid G2007 V-AAI-3S his hands G5495 N-APF on her G846 P-DSF : and G2532 CONJ immediately G3916 ADV she was made straight G461 V-API-3S , and G2532 CONJ glorified G1392 V-IAI-3S God G2316 N-ASM .
14 And G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM ruler of the synagogue G752 N-NSM answered G611 V-AOP-NSM with indignation G23 V-PAP-NSM , because G3754 CONJ that Jesus G2424 N-NSM had healed G2323 V-AAI-3S on the G3588 T-DSN sabbath day G4521 N-DSN , and said G3004 V-IAI-3S unto the G3588 T-DSM people G3793 N-DSM , There are G1526 V-PXI-3P six G1803 A-NUI days G2250 N-NPF in G1722 PREP which G3739 R-DPF men ought G1163 V-PQI-3S to work G2038 V-PNN : in G1722 PREP them G5025 therefore G3767 CONJ come G2064 V-PNP-NPM and G2532 CONJ be healed G2323 V-PPM-2P , and G2532 CONJ not G3361 PRT-N on the G3588 T-GSN sabbath G4521 N-GSN day G2250 N-DSF .
15 The G3588 T-NSM Lord G2962 N-NSM then G3767 CONJ answered G611 V-ADI-3S him G846 P-DSM , and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Thou hypocrite G5273 N-VPM , doth not G3756 PRT-N each one G1538 A-NSM of you G5216 P-2GP on the G3588 T-DSN sabbath G4521 N-DSN loose G3089 V-PAI-3S his G3588 T-ASM ox G1016 N-ASM or G2228 PRT his ass G3688 N-ASM from G575 PREP the G3588 T-GSF stall G5336 N-GSF , and G2532 CONJ lead him away G520 V-2AAP-NSM to watering G4222 V-PAI-3S ?
16 And G1161 CONJ ought G1163 V-IQI-3S not G3756 PRT-N this woman G5026 , being G5607 V-PXP-ASF a daughter G2364 N-ASF of Abraham G11 N-PRI , whom G3588 T-NSM Satan G4567 N-NSM hath bound G1210 V-AAI-3S , lo G2400 V-2AAM-2S , these eighteen G1176 A-NUI years G2094 N-APN , be loosed G3089 V-APN from G575 PREP this G3588 T-GSM bond G1199 N-GSM on the G3588 T-GSN sabbath G4521 N-GSN day G2250 N-DSF ?

19 It is G2076 V-PXI-3S like G3664 A-NSF a grain G2848 N-DSM of mustard seed G4615 N-GSN , which G3739 R-ASM a man G444 N-NSM took G2983 V-2AAP-NSM , and cast G906 V-2AAI-3S into G1519 PREP his G1438 F-3GSM garden G2779 N-ASM ; and G2532 CONJ it grew G837 V-AAI-3S , and G2532 CONJ waxed G1096 V-2ADI-3S a great G3173 A-ASN tree G1186 N-ASN ; and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPN fowls G4071 N-NPN of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM air G3772 N-GSM lodged G2681 V-AAI-3S in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DPM branches G2798 N-DPM of it G846 P-GSN .
20 And G2532 again G3825 ADV he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Whereunto G5101 I-DSN shall I liken G3666 V-FAI-1S the G3588 T-ASF kingdom G932 N-ASF of God G2316 N-GSM ?
21 It is G2076 V-PXI-3S like G3664 A-NSF leaven G2219 N-DSF , which G3739 R-ASF a woman G1135 N-NSF took G2983 V-2AAP-NSF and hid G1470 V-AAI-3S in G1519 PREP three G5140 A-APN measures G4568 N-APN of meal G224 N-GSN , till G2193 CONJ the whole G3650 A-ASN was leavened G2220 V-API-3S .
22 And G2532 CONJ he went G1279 V-INI-3S through G2596 PREP the cities G4172 N-APF and G2532 CONJ villages G2968 N-APF , teaching G1321 V-PAP-NSM , and G2532 CONJ journeying G4160 V-PMP-NSM toward G1519 PREP Jerusalem G2419 N-PRI .
23 Then G1161 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S one G5100 X-NSM unto him G846 P-DSM , Lord G2962 N-VSM , are G1487 COND there few G3641 A-NPM that G3588 T-NSM be saved G4982 V-PPP-NPM ? And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NPM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto G4314 PREP them G846 P-APM ,
24 Strive G75 V-PNM-2P to enter in G1525 V-2AAN at G1223 PREP the G3588 T-GSF strait G4728 A-GSF gate G4439 N-GSF : for G3754 CONJ many G4183 A-NPM , I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , will seek G2212 V-FAI-3P to enter in G1525 V-2AAN , and G2532 CONJ shall not G3756 PRT-N be able G2480 V-FAI-3P .

27 But G2532 CONJ he shall say G2046 V-FAI-3S , I tell G3004 V-PAI-1S you G5213 P-2DP , I know G1492 V-RAI-1S you G5209 P-2AP not G3756 PRT-N whence G4159 ADV-I ye are G2075 V-PXI-2P ; depart G868 V-2AAM-2P from G575 PREP me G1700 P-1GS , all G3956 A-NPM ye G3588 T-GSF workers G2040 N-NPM of iniquity G93 N-GSF .
28 There G1563 ADV shall be G2071 V-FXI-3S weeping G2805 N-NSM and G2532 CONJ gnashing G1030 N-NSM of teeth G3599 N-GPM , when G3752 CONJ ye shall see G3700 V-ADS-2P Abraham G11 N-PRI , and G2532 CONJ Isaac G2464 N-PRI , and G2532 CONJ Jacob G2384 N-PRI , and G2532 CONJ all G3956 A-APM the G3588 T-APM prophets G4396 N-APM , in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF kingdom G932 N-DSF of God G2316 N-GSM , and G1161 CONJ you G5209 P-2AP yourselves thrust G1544 V-PPP-APM out G1854 ADV .
29 And G2532 CONJ they shall come G2240 V-FAI-3P from G575 PREP the east G395 N-GPF , and G2532 CONJ from the west G1424 N-GPF , and G2532 CONJ from G575 PREP the north G1005 N-GSM , and G2532 CONJ from the south G3558 N-GSM , and G2532 CONJ shall sit down G347 V-FPI-3P in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF kingdom G932 N-DSF of G2316 N-GSM God .
30 And G2532 CONJ , behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , there are G1526 V-PXI-3P last G2078 A-NPM which G3739 R-NPM shall be G2071 V-FXI-3P first G4413 A-NPM , and G2532 CONJ there are G1526 V-PXI-3P first G4413 A-NPM which G3739 R-NPM shall be G2071 V-FXI-3P last G2078 A-NPM .
31 The G1722 PREP same G3588 T-DSF day G2250 N-DSF there came G4334 V-AAI-3P certain G5100 X-NPM of the Pharisees G5330 N-NPM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM unto him G846 P-DSM , Get thee out G1831 V-2AAM-2S , and G2532 CONJ depart G4198 V-PNM-2S hence G1782 ADV : for G3754 CONJ Herod G2264 N-NSM will G2309 V-PAI-3S kill G615 V-AAN thee G4571 P-2AS .
32 And G2532 CONJ he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Go G4198 V-AOP-NPM ye , and tell G2036 V-2AAM-2P that G3588 T-DSF fox G258 N-DSF , Behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , I cast out G1544 V-PAI-1S devils G1140 N-APN , and G2532 CONJ I do G2005 V-PAI-1S cures G2392 N-APF today G4594 ADV and G2532 CONJ tomorrow G839 ADV , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-DSF third G5154 A-DSF day I shall be perfected G5048 V-PPI-1S .
33 Nevertheless G4133 ADV I G3165 P-1AS must G1163 V-PQI-3S walk G4198 V-PNN today G4594 ADV , and G2532 CONJ tomorrow G839 ADV , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-DSF day following G2192 V-PPP-DSF : for G3754 CONJ it cannot be V-PNI-3S that a prophet G4396 N-ASM perish G622 V-2AMN out G1854 ADV of Jerusalem G2419 N-PRI .
34 O Jerusalem G2419 N-PRI , Jerusalem G2419 N-PRI , which killest G615 V-PAP-NSF the G3588 T-APM prophets G4396 N-APM , and G2532 CONJ stonest G3036 V-PAP-NSF them that are sent G649 V-RPP-APM unto G4314 PREP thee G846 P-ASF ; how often G4212 ADV would G2309 V-AAI-1S I have gathered thy children together G1996 V-AAN , as R-ASM a hen G3733 N-NSM doth gather her G1438 F-3GSF brood G3555 N-ASF under G5259 PREP her wings G4420 N-APF , and G2532 CONJ ye would G2309 V-AAI-2P not G3756 PRT-N !
35 Behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , your G3588 T-NSM house G3624 N-NSM is left G863 V-PPI-3S unto you G5213 P-2DP desolate G2048 A-NSM : and G1161 CONJ verily G281 I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , Ye shall not G3364 see G1492 me G3165 P-1AS , until G2193 CONJ the time come G2240 V-FAI-3S when G3753 ADV ye shall say G2036 V-2AAS-2P , Blessed G2127 V-RPP-NSM is he that cometh G2064 V-PNP-NSM in G1722 PREP the name G3686 N-DSN of the Lord G2962 N-GSM .
