Job 16:1 (NASB) New American Standard Bible

1 Then Job answered and said:
2 I have heard this sort of thing many times. Wearisome comforters are you all!
3 Is there no end to windy words? Or what sickness have you that you speak on?
4 I also could talk as you do, were you in my place. I could declaim over you, or wag my head at you;
5 I could strengthen you with talk, or shake my head with silent lips.
6 If I speak, this pain I have will not be checked; if I leave off, it will not depart from me.
7 But now that I am exhausted and stunned, all my company has closed in on me.
8 As a witness there rises up my traducer, speaking openly against me;
9 I am the prey his wrath assails, he gnashes his teeth against me. My enemies lord it over me;
10 their mouths are agape to bite me. They smite me on the cheek insultingly; they are all enlisted against me.
11 God has given me over to the impious; into the clutches of the wicked he has cast me.
12 I was in peace, but he dislodged me; he seized me by the neck and dashed me to pieces. He has set me up for a target;
13 his arrows strike me from all directions, He pierces my sides without mercy, he pours out my gall upon the ground.
14 He pierces me with thrust upon thrust; he attacks me like a warrior.
15 I have fastened sackcloth over my skin, and have laid my brow in the dust.
16 My face is inflamed with weeping and there is darkness over my eyes,
17 Although my hands are free from violence, and my prayer is sincere.
18 O earth, cover not my blood, nor let my outcry come to rest!
19 Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my spokesman is on high.
20 My friends it is who wrong me; before God my eyes drop tears,
21 That he may do justice for a mortal in his presence and decide between a man and his neighbor.
22 For my years are numbered now, and I am on a journey from which I shall not return.

3 Shall vain H7307 NFS words H1697 L-CMP have an end H7093 D-NMS ? or H176 CONJ what H4100 IPRO emboldeneth H4834 VHY3MS-2MS thee that H3588 CONJ thou answerest H6030 VQY2MS ?
4 I H595 PPRO-1MS also H1571 CONJ could speak H1696 VPI1MS as ye do : if H3863 CONJ your soul H5315 CFS-2MP were H3426 PART in my soul\'s stead H8478 NMS , I could heap up H2266 VHI1MS words H4405 B-GFP against H5921 PREP-2MP you , and shake H5128 W-VHI1MS mine H1119 PREP head H7218 CMS-1MS at H5921 PREP-2MP you .
5 But I would strengthen H553 VPI1MS-2MP you with H1119 PREP my mouth H6310 CMS-1MS , and the moving H5205 W-CMS of my lips H8193 CFD-1MS should assuage H2820 VQY3MS your grief .
6 Though H518 PART I speak H1696 VPI1MS , my grief H3511 CMS-1MS is not H3808 NADV assuaged H2820 VNY3MS : and though I forbear H2308 W-VQI1MS , what H4100 IPRO am I eased H1980 VQY3MS ?
7 But H389 ADV now H6258 ADV he hath made me weary H3811 VHQ3MS-1MS : thou hast made desolate H8074 VHQ2MS all H3605 NMS my company H5712 CFS-1MS .
8 And thou hast filled me with wrath H7059 W-VQY2MS-1MS , which is H1961 VQQ3MS a witness H5707 L-NMS against me : and my leanness H3585 CMS-1MS rising up H6965 W-VQY3MS in me beareth witness H6030 VQY3MS to my face H6440 B-CMP-1MS .
9 He teareth H2963 VQQ3MS me in his wrath H639 CMS-3MS , who hateth H7852 W-VQY3MS-1MS me : he gnasheth H2786 VQQ3MS upon H5921 PREP-1MS me with his teeth H8127 B-CMD-3MS ; mine enemy H6862 CMS-1MS sharpeneth H3913 VQY3MS his eyes H5869 CMD-3MS upon me .
10 They have gaped H6473 VQQ3MP upon H5921 PREP-1MS me with their mouth H6310 B-CMS-3MP ; they have smitten H5221 VHQ3MP me upon the cheek H3895 CFD-1MS reproachfully H2781 B-NFS ; they have gathered themselves H4390 VTY3MP-3FS together H3162 ADV against H5921 PREP-1MS me .
11 God H410 EDS hath delivered H5462 VHY3MS-1MS me to H413 PREP the ungodly H5760 NMS , and turned me over H3399 VQY3MS-1MS into H5921 W-PREP the hands H3027 CFD of the wicked H7563 AMP .
12 I was H1961 VQQ1MS at ease H7961 AMS , but he hath broken me asunder H6565 W-VPY3MS-1MS : he hath also taken H270 W-VQQ3MS me by my neck H6203 B-CMS-1MS , and shaken me to pieces H6327 W-VPY3MS-1MS , and set me up H6965 W-VHY3MS-1MS for his mark H4307 L-NFS .
13 His archers H7228 CMP-3MS compass me round about H5437 VQY3MP , he cleaveth H6398 VPY3MS my reins H3629 CFP-1MS asunder , and doth not H3808 W-NPAR spare H2550 VQY3MS ; he poureth out H8210 VQY3MS my gall H4845 CFS-1MS upon the ground H776 LD-NFS .
14 He breaketh H6555 VQY3MS-1MS me with breach H6556 NMS upon H5921 PREP breach H6556 NMS , he runneth H7323 VQY3MS upon H5921 PREP me like a giant H1368 K-AMS .
15 I have sewed H8609 VQQ1MS sackcloth H8242 NMS upon H5921 PREP my skin H1539 CMS-1MS , and defiled H5953 W-VPQ1MS my horn H7161 CFS-1MS in the dust H6083 BD-NMS .
16 My face H6440 NMP-1MS is foul H2560 VPQ3FS with H4480 PREP-1MS weeping H1065 NMS , and on H5921 W-PREP my eyelids H6079 CMD-1MS is the shadow of death H6757 NMS ;
17 Not H3808 NADV for H5921 PREP any injustice H2555 AMS in mine hands H3709 B-CFD-1MS : also my prayer H8605 W-CFS-1MS is pure H2134 AFS .
18 O earth H776 GFS , cover H3680 VPY2FS not H408 NPAR thou my blood H1818 CMS-1MS , and let my cry H2201 L-CFS-1MS have H1961 VPY3MS no H408 ADV place H4725 NUM-MS .
19 Also H1571 CONJ now H6258 ADV , behold H2009 IJEC , my witness H5707 CMS-1MS is in heaven H8064 BD-NMP , and my record H7717 W-CMS-1MS is on high H4791 BD-NMP .
20 My friends H7453 CMP-1MS scorn H3887 VHCMP-1MS me : but mine eye H5869 CMS-1MS poureth out H1811 VQQ3FS tears unto H413 PREP God H433 EDS .
21 O that one might plead H3198 W-VHI3MS for a man H1397 L-NMS with H5973 PREP God H433 NAME-4MS , as a man H1121 W-CMS pleadeth for his neighbor H7453 L-CMS-3MS !
22 When H3588 CONJ a few H4557 NMS years H8141 CFP are come H857 VQY3MP , then I shall go H1980 VQY1MS the way H734 W-NMS whence I shall not H3808 NADV return H7725 VQY1MS .
