Jonah 3:1 (NASB) New American Standard Bible

1 The word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time:
2 "Set out for the great city of Nineveh, and announce to it the message that I will tell you."
3 So Jonah made ready and went to Nineveh, according to the LORD'S bidding. Now Nineveh was an enormously large city; it took three days to go through it.
4 Jonah began his journey through the city, and had gone but a single day's walk announcing, "Forty days more and Nineveh shall be destroyed,"
5 when the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast and all of them, great and small, put on sackcloth.
6 When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in the ashes.
7 Then he had this proclaimed throughout Nineveh, by decree of the king and his nobles: "Neither man nor beast, neither cattle nor sheep, shall taste anything; they shall not eat, nor shall they drink water.
8 Man and beast shall be covered with sackcloth and call loudly to God; every man shall turn from his evil way and from the violence he has in hand.
9 Who knows, God may relent and forgive, and withhold his blazing wrath, so that we shall not perish."
10 When God saw by their actions how they turned from their evil way, he repented of the evil that he had threatened to do to them; he did not carry it out.

2 Arise H6965 VQI2MS , go H1980 VQI2MS unto H413 PREP Nineveh H5210 LFS , that great H1419 D-AFS city H5892 D-GFS , and preach H7121 W-VQI2MS unto H413 PREP it the preaching H7150 D-NFS that H834 RPRO I H595 PPRO-1MS bid H1696 VQPMS thee .
3 So Jonah H3124 EMS arose H6965 W-VQY3MS , and went H1980 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Nineveh H5210 LFS , according to the word H1697 K-NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS . Now Nineveh H5210 W-LFS was H1961 VQQ3FS an exceeding H430 L-NMP great H1419 AMS-3FS city H5892 GFS of three H7969 BMS days H3117 NMP \' journey H4109 CMS .
4 And Jonah H3124 EMS began H2490 W-VHY3MS to enter H935 L-VQFC into the city H5892 BD-NFS a H259 MMS day H3117 NMS \'s journey H4109 CMS , and he cried H7121 W-VQY3MS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Yet H5750 ADV forty H705 MMP days H3117 NMS , and Nineveh H5210 W-LFS shall be overthrown H2015 VNPFS .
5 So the people H376 CMP of Nineveh H5210 LFS believed H539 W-VHY3MP God H430 B-NMP , and proclaimed H7121 W-VQY3MP a fast H6685 NMS , and put on H3847 W-VQY3MP sackcloth H8242 NMP , from the greatest H1419 M-JMS-3MP of them even to H5704 W-PREP the least H6996 JMS-3MP of them .
6 For word H1697 D-NMS came H5060 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the king H4428 NMS of Nineveh H5210 LFS , and he arose H6965 W-VQY3MS from his throne H3678 M-NMS-3MS , and he laid H5674 W-VHI3MS his robe H155 CFS-3MS from PREP him , and covered H3680 W-VQY3MS him with sackcloth H8242 NMS , and sat H3427 W-VQY3MS in H5921 PREP ashes H665 D-NMS .
7 And he caused it to be proclaimed H2199 W-VHY3MS and published H559 W-VQY3MS through Nineveh H5210 B-EFS by the decree H2940 M-CMS of the king H4428 D-NMS and his nobles H1419 W-JMP-3MS , saying H559 W-VQY3MS , Let neither H408 ADV man H120 D-NMS nor beast H929 WD-NFS , herd H1241 D-NMS nor flock H6629 WD-NMS , taste H2938 VQY3MP any thing H3972 NMS : let them not H408 NPAR feed H7462 VQY3MP , nor H408 NPAR drink H8354 VQY3MP water H4325 W-NMD :
8 But let man H120 D-NMS and beast H929 WD-NFS be covered H3680 W-VHY3MP with sackcloth H8242 NMP , and cry H7121 W-VQY3MP mightily H2394 B-NFS unto H413 PREP God H430 EDP : yea , let them turn H7725 W-VUY3MP every one H376 NMS from his evil H7451 D-AFS way H1870 M-CMS-3MS , and from H4480 W-PREP the violence H2555 D-NMS that H834 RPRO is in their hands H3709 B-CFD-3MP .
9 Who H4310 IPRO can tell H3045 VQPMS if God H430 D-EDP will turn H7725 VQY3MS and repent H5162 W-VNQ3MS , and turn away H7725 W-VQQ3MS from his fierce H2740 M-CMS anger H639 CMS-3MS , that we perish H6 VQY1MP not H3808 W-NPAR ?
10 And God H430 D-NAME-4MP saw H7200 W-VIY3MS their works H4639 CMP-3MP , that H3588 CONJ they turned H7725 VQQ3MP from their evil H7451 D-AFS way H1870 M-CMS-3MP ; and God H430 D-EDP repented H5162 W-VNY3MS of H5921 PREP the evil H7451 D-AFS , that H834 RPRO he had said H1696 VPQ3MS that he would do H6213 L-VQFC unto them ; and he did H6213 VQQ3MS it not H3808 W-NPAR .
