Matthew 8:1 (NASB) New American Standard Bible

1 When Jesus came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him.
2 And then a leper approached, did him homage, and said, "Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean."
3 He stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, "I will do it. Be made clean." His leprosy was cleansed immediately.
4 Then Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one, but go show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them."
5 When he entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him,
6 saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully."
7 He said to him, "I will come and cure him."
8 The centurion said in reply, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed.
9 For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come here,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it."
10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, "Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith.
11 I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the kingdom of heaven,
12 but the children of the kingdom will be driven out into the outer darkness, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth."
13 And Jesus said to the centurion, "You may go; as you have believed, let it be done for you." And at that very hour (his) servant was healed.
14 Jesus entered the house of Peter, and saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.
15 He touched her hand, the fever left her, and she rose and waited on him.
16 When it was evening, they brought him many who were possessed by demons, and he drove out the spirits by a word and cured all the sick,
17 to fulfill what had been said by Isaiah the prophet: "He took away our infirmities and bore our diseases."
18 When Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side.
19 A scribe approached and said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
20 Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head."
21 Another of (his) disciples said to him, "Lord, let me go first and bury my father."
22 But Jesus answered him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead."
23 He got into a boat and his disciples followed him.
24 Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by waves; but he was asleep.
25 They came and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!"
26 He said to them, "Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?" Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm.
27 The men were amazed and said, "What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?"
28 When he came to the other side, to the territory of the Gadarenes, two demoniacs who were coming from the tombs met him. They were so savage that no one could travel by that road.
29 They cried out, "What have you to do with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the appointed time?"
30 Some distance away a herd of many swine was feeding.
31 The demons pleaded with him, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of swine."
32 And he said to them, "Go then!" They came out and entered the swine, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea where they drowned.
33 The swineherds ran away, and when they came to the town they reported everything, including what had happened to the demoniacs.
34 Thereupon the whole town came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him they begged him to leave their district.

2 And G2532 CONJ , behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , there came G2064 V-2AAP-NSM a leper G3015 A-NSM and worshiped G4352 V-IAI-3S him G846 P-DSM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Lord G2962 N-VSM , if G1437 COND thou wilt G2309 V-PAS-2S , thou canst G1410 V-PNI-2S make me clean G2511 V-AAN .
3 And G2532 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM put forth G1614 V-AAP-NSF his hand G5495 N-ASF , and touched G680 V-ADI-3S him G846 P-GSM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , I will G2309 V-PAI-1S ; be thou clean . And G2532 CONJ immediately G2112 ADV his G3588 T-NSF leprosy G3014 N-NSF was cleansed G2511 V-APM-2S .
4 And G2532 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , See G3708 V-PAM-2S thou tell G2036 V-2AAS-2S no man G3367 A-DSM ; but G235 CONJ go thy way G5217 V-PAM-2S , show G1166 V-AAM-2S thyself G4572 F-2ASM to the G3588 T-DSM priest G2409 N-DSM , and G2532 CONJ offer G4374 V-2AAM-2S the G3588 T-ASN gift G1435 N-ASN that G3739 R-ASN Moses G3475 N-NSM commanded G4367 V-AAI-3S , for G1519 PREP a testimony G3142 N-ASN unto them G846 P-DPM .
5 And G1161 CONJ when Jesus G2424 was entered G1525 V-2AAP-DSM into G1519 PREP Capernaum G2584 N-PRI , there came G4334 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM a centurion G1543 N-NSM , beseeching G3870 V-PAP-NSM him G846 P-DSM ,
6 And G2532 CONJ saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Lord G2962 N-VSM , my G3588 T-NSM servant G3816 N-NSM lieth G906 V-RPI-3S at G1722 PREP home G3614 N-DSF sick of the palsy G3885 A-NSM , grievously G1171 ADV tormented G928 V-PPP-NSM .
7 And G2532 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , I G1473 P-1NS will come G2064 V-2AAP-NSM and heal G2323 V-FAI-1S him G846 P-ASM .
8 The G3588 T-NSM centurion G1543 N-NSM answered G611 V-AOP-NSM and said G5346 V-IXI-3S , Lord G2962 N-VSM , I am G1510 V-PXI-1S not G3756 PRT-N worthy G2425 A-NSM that G2443 CONJ thou shouldest come G1525 V-2AAS-2S under G5259 PREP my G3588 T-ASF roof G4721 N-ASF : but G235 CONJ speak G2036 V-2AAM-2S the word G3056 N-DSM only G3440 ADV , and G2532 CONJ my G3588 T-NSM servant G3816 N-NSM shall be healed G2390 V-FPI-3S .
9 For G1063 CONJ I G1473 P-1NS am a G1510 V-PXI-1S man G444 N-NSM under G5259 PREP authority G1849 N-ASF , having G2192 V-PAP-NSM soldiers G4757 N-APM under G5259 PREP me G1683 F-1ASM : and G2532 CONJ I say G3004 V-PAI-1S to this G5129 D-DSM man , Go G4198 V-AOM-2S , and G2532 CONJ he goeth G4198 V-PNI-3S ; and G2532 CONJ to another G243 A-DSM , Come G2064 V-PNI-2S , and G2532 CONJ he cometh G2064 V-PNI-3S ; and G2532 CONJ to my G3588 T-DSM servant G1401 N-DSM , Do G4160 V-AAM-2S this G5124 D-ASN , and G2532 CONJ he doeth G4160 V-PAI-3S it .
10 When G1161 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM heard G191 V-AAP-NSM it , he marveled G2296 V-AAI-3S , and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S to them that followed G190 V-PAP-DPM , Verily G281 HEB I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , I have not found G2147 V-2AAI-1S so great G5118 D-ASF faith G4102 N-ASF , no , not G3761 ADV in G1722 PREP Israel G2474 N-PRI .
11 And G1161 CONJ I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , That G3754 CONJ many G4183 A-NPM shall come G2240 V-FAI-3P from G575 PREP the east G395 N-GPF and G2532 CONJ west G1424 N-GPF , and G2532 CONJ shall sit down G347 V-FPI-3P with G3326 PREP Abraham G11 N-PRI , and G2532 CONJ Isaac G2464 N-PRI , and G2532 CONJ Jacob G2384 N-PRI , in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF kingdom G932 N-DSF of heaven G3772 N-GPM .
12 But G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM children G5207 N-NPM of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF kingdom G932 N-GSF shall be cast out G1544 V-FPI-3P into G1519 PREP outer G1857 A-ASN darkness G4655 N-ASN : there G1563 ADV shall be G2071 V-FXI-3S weeping G2805 N-NSM and G2532 CONJ gnashing G1030 N-NSM of teeth G3599 N-GPM .
13 And G2532 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto the G3588 T-DSM centurion G1543 N-DSM , Go thy way G5217 V-PAM-2S ; and G2532 CONJ as G5613 ADV thou hast believed G4100 V-AAI-2S , so be it done G1096 V-AOM-3S unto thee . And G2532 CONJ his G3588 T-NSM servant G3816 N-NSM was healed G2390 V-API-3S in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF selfsame G1565 D-DSF hour G5610 N-DSF .
14 And G2532 CONJ when Jesus G2424 N-NSM was come G2064 V-2AAP-NSM into G1519 PREP Peter G4074 N-GSM \'s house G3614 N-ASF , he saw G1492 V-2AAI-3S his G3588 T-ASF wife\'s mother G3994 N-ASF laid G906 V-RPP-ASF , and G2532 CONJ sick of a fever G4445 V-PAP-ASF .
15 And G2532 CONJ he touched G680 V-ADI-3S her G3588 T-GSF hand G5495 N-GSF , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM fever G4446 N-NSM left G863 V-AAI-3S her G846 P-ASF : and G2532 CONJ she arose G1453 V-API-3S , and G2532 CONJ ministered G1247 V-IAI-3S unto them G846 P-DSM .
16 When G1161 CONJ the even G3798 A-GSF was come G1096 V-2ADP-GSF , they brought G4374 V-AAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM many G4183 A-APM that were possessed with devils G1139 V-PNP-APM : and G2532 CONJ he cast out G1544 V-2AAI-3S the G3588 T-APN spirits G4151 N-APN with his word G3056 N-DSM , and G2532 CONJ healed G2323 V-AAI-3S all G3956 A-APM that were sick G2192 V-PAP-APM :
17 That G3704 ADV it G3588 T-NSN might be fulfilled G4137 V-APS-3S which was spoken G4483 V-APP-NSN by G1223 PREP Isaiah G2268 N-GSM the G3588 T-GSM prophet G4396 N-GSM , saying G3004 V-PAP-GSN , Himself G846 P-NSM took G2983 V-2AAI-3S our G3588 T-APF infirmities G769 N-APF , and G2532 CONJ bare G941 V-AAI-3S our sicknesses G3554 N-APF .
18 Now G1161 CONJ when Jesus G2424 N-NSM saw G1492 V-2AAP-NSM great G4183 A-APM multitudes G3793 N-APM about G4012 PREP him G846 P-ASM , he gave commandment G2753 V-AAI-3S to depart G565 V-2AAN unto G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN other side G4008 ADV .
19 And G2532 CONJ a certain G1520 A-NSM scribe G1122 N-NSM came G4334 V-2AAP-NSM , and said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Master G1320 N-VSM , I will follow G190 V-FAI-1S thee G4671 P-2DS whithersoever G3699 ADV thou goest G565 V-PNS-2S .
20 And G2532 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , The G3588 T-NPF foxes G258 N-NPF have G2192 V-PAI-3P holes G5454 N-APM , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPN birds G4071 N-NPN of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM air G3772 N-GSM have nests G2682 N-APF ; but G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-GSM Son G5207 N-NSM of man G444 N-GSM hath G2192 V-PAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N where G4226 PRT-I to lay G2827 V-PAS-3S his head G2776 N-ASF .
21 And G1161 CONJ another G2087 A-NSM of G3588 T-GPM his G3588 T-GPM disciples G3101 N-GPM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Lord G2962 N-VSM , suffer G2010 V-AAM-2S me G3427 P-1DS first G4412 ADV to go G565 V-2AAN and G2532 CONJ bury G2290 V-AAN my G3588 T-ASM father G3962 N-ASM .
22 But G1161 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Follow G190 V-PAM-2S me G3427 P-1DS ; and G2532 CONJ let G863 V-2AAM-2S the G3588 T-APM dead G3498 A-APM bury G2290 V-AAN their G1438 F-3GPM dead G3498 A-APM .
23 And G2532 CONJ when he G846 P-DSM was entered G1684 V-2AAP-DSM into G1519 PREP a ship G4143 N-ASN , his G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM followed G190 V-AAI-3P him G846 P-GSM ,
24 And G2532 CONJ , behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , there arose G1096 V-2ADI-3S a great G3173 A-NSM tempest G4578 N-NSM in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF sea G2281 N-DSF , insomuch that G5620 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN ship G4143 N-NSN was covered G2572 V-PPN with G5259 PREP the G3588 T-GPN waves G2949 N-GPN : but G1161 CONJ he G846 P-NSM was asleep G2518 V-IAI-3S .
25 And G2532 CONJ his G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM came G4334 V-2AAP-NPM to him and awoke G1453 V-AAI-3P him G846 P-ASM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , Lord G2962 N-VSM , save G4982 V-AAM-2S us G2248 P-1AP : we perish G622 V-PMI-1P .
26 And G2532 CONJ he saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Why G5101 I-NSN are G2075 V-PXI-2P ye fearful G1169 A-NPM , O ye of little faith G3640 A-VPM ? Then G5119 ADV he arose G1453 V-APP-NSM , and rebuked G2008 V-AAI-3S the G3588 T-DPM winds G417 N-DPM and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-DSF sea G2281 N-DSF ; and G2532 CONJ there was G1096 V-2ADI-3S a great G3173 A-NSF calm G1055 N-NSF .
27 But G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM men G444 N-NPM marveled G2296 V-AAI-3P , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , What manner of man G4217 A-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S this G3778 D-NSM , that G3754 CONJ even G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM winds G417 N-NPM and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF sea G2281 N-NSF obey G5219 V-PAI-3P him G846 P-DSM !
28 And G2532 CONJ when he G846 P-DSM was come G2064 V-2AAP-DSM to G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN other side G4008 ADV into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF country G5561 N-ASF of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM Gergesenes G1086 N-GPM , there met G5221 V-AAI-3P him G846 P-DSM two G1417 A-NUI possessed with devils G1139 V-PNP-NPM , coming G1831 V-PNP-NPM out G1537 PREP of G3588 T-GPN the G3588 T-GPN tombs G3419 N-GPN , exceeding G3029 ADV fierce G5467 A-NPM , so that G5620 CONJ no G3361 PRT-N man G5100 X-ASM might G2480 V-PAN pass G3928 V-2AAN by G1223 PREP that G3588 T-GSF way G3598 N-GSF .
29 And G2532 CONJ , behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , they cried out G2896 V-AAI-3P , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , What have we to do with thee G5101 I-NSN , Jesus G2424 N-VSM , thou Son G5207 N-VSM of God G2316 N-GSM ? art thou come G2064 V-2AAI-2S hither G5602 ADV to torment G928 V-AAN us G2248 P-1AP before G4253 PREP the time G2540 N-GSM ?
30 And G1161 CONJ there was G2258 V-IXI-3S a good way off G3112 ADV from G575 PREP them G846 P-GPM an herd G34 N-NSF of many G4183 A-GPM swine G5519 N-GPM feeding G1006 V-PPP-NSF .
31 So G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM devils G1142 N-NPM besought G3870 V-IAI-3P him G846 P-ASM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , If G1487 COND thou cast us out G1544 V-PAI-2S , suffer G2010 V-AAM-2S us G2254 P-1DP to go away G565 V-2AAN into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF herd G34 N-ASF of swine G5519 N-GPM .
32 And G2532 CONJ he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Go . And G1161 CONJ when they were come out G1831 V-2AAP-NPM , they went G565 V-2AAI-3P into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF herd G34 N-ASF of swine G5519 N-GPM : and G2532 CONJ , behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , the G3588 T-ASF whole G3956 A-NSF herd G34 N-NSF of swine G5519 N-GPM ran violently G3729 V-AAI-3S down G2596 PREP a steep place G2911 N-GSM into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF sea G2281 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ perished G599 V-2AAI-3P in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DPN waters G5204 N-DPN .
33 And G1161 CONJ they that kept G1006 V-PAP-NPM them fled G5343 V-2AAI-3P , and G2532 CONJ went their ways G565 V-2AAP-NPM into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF city G4172 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ told G518 V-AAI-3P every thing G3956 A-APN , and G2532 CONJ what was befallen G3588 T-ASF to the G3588 T-GPM possessed of the devils G1139 V-PNP-GPM .
34 And G2532 CONJ , behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , the G3588 T-NSF whole G3956 A-NSF city G4172 N-NSF came out G1831 V-2AAI-3S to meet G1519 PREP Jesus G2424 N-DSM : and G2532 CONJ when they saw G1492 V-2AAP-NPM him G846 P-ASM , they besought G3870 V-AAI-3P him that G3704 ADV he would depart G3327 V-2AAS-3S out of G575 PREP their G3588 T-GPN coasts G3725 N-GPN .
