1 साधारण महिन्याभरानंतर अम्मोनी राजा नाहाश याने आपल्या सैन्यासह याबोश गिलादला वेढा दिला. तेव्हा याबेशाच्या लोकांनी नाहाशला निरोप पाठवला की तू आमच्याशी करार केल्यास तुझ्या आधिपत्याखाली आम्ही राहू.
2 पण नाहाशने उत्तर दिले, “तुम्हा सर्वांचा उजवा डोळा फोडून इस्राएलची नाचक्की करीन तेव्हाच तुमच्याशी मी करार करीन.”
3 तेव्हा याबेशमधील वडीलधारी मंडळी त्याला म्हणाली, “आम्हाला सात दिवसाची मुदत दे. तेवढ्या वेळात आम्ही इस्राएलभर आमचा संदेश देऊन माणसे पाठवतो. आमचा बचाव करायला कोणीच आले नाही तर आम्ही आपण होऊन तुझ्या स्वाधीन होऊ.”
4 शौल राहात होता तेथे म्हणजे गिबा येथे याबेशचे दूत येऊन पोचले. त्यांनी लोकांना हे सर्व सांगितले. तेव्हा लोकांनी रडून आकांत मांडला.
5 शौल तेव्हा आपली गुरे चरायला घेऊन गेला होता. कुरणातून येतांना त्याने लोकांचा आक्रोश ऐकला. तेव्हा त्याने विचारले, “हे काय चालले आहे? लोकांना शोक करायला काय झाले?” तेव्हा लोकांनी त्याला दूताचे म्हणणे सांगितले.
6 शौलने ते ऐकून घेतले. त्याच वेळी त्याच्यात देवाच्या आत्म्याचा संचार होऊन तो संतप्त झाला.
7 त्याने एक बैलांची जोडी घेऊन तिचे तुकडे तुकडे केले आणि दूतांना ते इस्राएलच्या सर्व प्रांतात फिरवायला सांगितले. त्याचबरोबर ही दवंडी पिटायला सांगितली. “सर्वजण शौल आणि शमुवेल यांच्या पाठीशी राहा. यात हयगय झाल्यास त्याच्या गुरांचीही अशीच गत होईल.” परमेश्वराच्या धास्तीने लोक एकदिलाने एकत्र आले.
8 शौलने बेजेक येथे या सर्वांना एकत्र बोलावले. तेथे इस्राएल मधून तीन लाख आणि यहूदातून प्रत्येकी तीस हजार माणसे होती.
9 या सर्वांनी शौलच्या सुरात सूर मिसळून याबेशच्या दूतांना सांगितले, “उद्या दुपारपर्यंत तुमच्या बचावासाठी आम्ही येत आहोत असे याबेश गिलाद मधील लोकांना सांगा.” शौलचा हा निरोप दूतांनी पोचवल्यावर याबेशच्या लोकांमध्ये आनंदी आनंद झाला.
10 ते अम्मोनी राजा नाहाश याला म्हणाले, “उद्या आम्ही तुमच्याकडे येतो मग आमचे हवे ते कर.
11 दुसऱ्या दिवशी सकाळी शौलने आपल्या सैन्याची तीन गटात विभागणी केली. त्यांच्यासह शौलने दिवस उजाडताच अम्मोन्यांच्या छावणीत प्रवेश केला. पहारा बदलत असताना त्यांच्यावर हल्ला केला. दुपार व्हायच्या आधीच अम्मोन्यांचा त्यांनी पराभव केला. अम्मोनी सैन्याची दाणादाण उडाली. ते वाट सापडेल तिकडे पळत सुटले. प्रत्येक जण वेगळ्या दिशेला गेला. कोणी दोन सैनिक एका ठिकाणी नव्हते.
12 एवढे झाल्यावर लोक शमुवेलला म्हणाले, “शौलला विरोध करणारे, त्याचे राज्य नको असलेले कुठे आहेत ते लोक? त्यांना आमच्या समोर आणा. त्यांनाही मारुन टाकतो.”
13 पण शौल म्हणाला, “नाही, आज कोणाचीही हत्या आता करायची नाही. परमेश्वराने इस्राएलला तारले आहे.”
14 तेव्हा शमुवेल लोकांना म्हणाला, “चला आता आपण सगळे गिलगाल येथे जाऊ. तेथे पुन्हा नव्याने शौलला राजा म्हणून घोषित करु.”
15 त्याप्रमाणे सर्वजण गिलगाल येथे जमले. परमेश्वरासमोर त्यांनी शौलला राजा केले. परमेश्वरासमोर शांत्यर्पणे केली. शौल आणि सर्व इस्राएली यांनी उत्सव साजरा केला.

2 And Nahash H5176 the Ammonite H5984 answered H559 W-VQY3MS them , On this H2063 condition will I make H3772 a covenant with you , that I may thrust out H5365 all H3605 NMS your right H3225 NFS eyes H5869 CMS , and lay H7760 it for a reproach H2781 upon H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 LMS .
3 And the elders H2205 of Jabesh H3003 said H559 W-VQY3MP unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Give us seven H7651 RMS days H3117 NMP \' respite H7503 , that we may send H7971 messengers H4397 unto all H3605 the coasts H1366 CMS of Israel H3478 : and then , if H518 W-PART there be no man H369 NPAR to save H3467 us , we will come out H3318 to H413 thee .
4 Then came H935 W-VQY3MP the messengers H4397 to Gibeah H1390 of Saul H7586 , and told H1696 W-VPY3MP the tidings H1697 AMP in the ears H241 of the people H5971 : and all H3605 CMS the people H5971 lifted up H5375 W-VQY3MP their voices H6963 CMS-3MP , and wept H1058 .
5 And , behold H2009 IJEC , Saul H7586 came H935 VQPMS after H310 PREP the herd H1241 D-NMS out of H4480 PREP the field H7704 D-NMS ; and Saul H7586 said H559 W-VQY3MS , What H4100 IPRO aileth the people H5971 that H3588 CONJ they weep H1058 ? And they told H5608 him the tidings H1697 CMP of the men H376 of Jabesh H3003 .
6 And the Spirit H7307 NMS of God H430 EDP came H6743 upon H5921 PREP Saul H7586 when he heard H8085 those H428 D-DPRO-3MP tidings H1697 AMP , and his anger H639 CMS-3MS was kindled H2734 W-VQY3MS greatly H3966 ADV .
7 And he took H3947 W-VQY3MS a yoke H6776 NMS of oxen H1241 NMS , and hewed them in pieces H5408 , and sent H7971 W-VPY3MS them throughout all H3605 B-CMS the coasts H1366 CMS of Israel H3478 by the hands H3027 B-CFS of messengers H4397 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Whosoever H834 RPRO cometh not forth after H310 PREP Saul H7586 and after H310 W-ADV Samuel H8050 , so H3541 shall it be done H6213 unto his oxen H1241 . And the fear H6343 of the LORD H3068 EDS fell H5307 W-VQY3MS on H5921 PREP the people H5971 , and they came out H3318 VQPMS with one H259 ONUM consent H376 .
8 And when he numbered H6485 them in Bezek H966 , the children H1121 of Israel H3478 were H1961 W-VQY3MP three H7969 BFS hundred H3967 BFP thousand H505 W-BMS , and the men H376 W-NMS of Judah H3063 thirty H7970 MMP thousand H505 MMS .
9 And they said H559 W-VQY3MP unto the messengers H4397 that came H935 , Thus H3541 shall ye say H559 unto the men H376 L-NMS of Jabesh H3003 - gilead , Tomorrow H4279 NMS , by that time the sun H8121 be hot H2527 , ye shall have H1961 VQY2MS help H8668 . And the messengers H4397 came H935 W-VQY3MP and showed H5046 it to the men H376 of Jabesh H3003 ; and they were glad H8055 .
10 Therefore the men H376 of Jabesh H3003 said H559 , Tomorrow H4279 NMS we will come out H3318 unto H413 you , and ye shall do H6213 with us all H3605 that seemeth H5869 B-CMD-2MP good H2896 D-NMS unto you .
11 And it was H1961 W-VQY3MS so on the morrow H4283 , that Saul H7586 put H7760 W-VQY3MS the people H5971 in three H7969 NFS companies H7218 NMP ; and they came H935 W-VQY3MP into the midst H8432 of the host H4264 in the morning H1242 watch H821 , and slew H5221 W-VHY3MP the Ammonites H5983 until H5704 PREP the heat H2527 NMS of the day H3117 D-AMS : and it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , that they which remained H7604 were scattered H6327 , so that two H8147 ONUM of them were not H3808 W-NPAR left H7604 together H3162 ADV .
12 And the people H5971 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Samuel H8050 , Who H4310 IPRO is he that said H559 W-VQY3MS , Shall Saul H7586 reign H4427 over H5921 PREP-1MP us ? bring H5414 the men H376 D-NMP , that we may put them to death H4191 .
13 And Saul H7586 said H559 W-VQY3MS , There shall not H3808 ADV a man H376 NMS be put to death H4191 this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 B-AMS : for H3588 CONJ today H3117 D-AMS the LORD H3068 EDS hath wrought H6213 VQQ3MS salvation H8668 in Israel H3478 .
14 Then said H559 W-VQY3MS Samuel H8050 to H413 PREP the people H5971 , Come H1980 VQI2MP , and let us go H1980 to Gilgal H1537 , and renew H2318 the kingdom H4410 there H8033 ADV .
15 And all H3605 CMS the people H5971 went H1980 W-VQY3MP to Gilgal H1537 ; and there H8033 ADV they made Saul king H4427 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS in Gilgal H1537 ; and there H8033 ADV they sacrificed H2076 sacrifices H2077 of peace offerings H8002 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS ; and there H8033 ADV Saul H7586 and all H3605 W-CMS the men H376 CMP of Israel H3478 rejoiced H8055 W-VQY3MS greatly H3966 ADV .
