1 Kings 6:1 (NIRV) New International Reader's Version

1 Solomon began to build the temple of the Lord. It was 480 years after the people of Israel had come out of Egypt. It was in the fourth year of Solomon's rule over Israel. He started in the second month. That was the month of Ziv.
2 The temple King Solomon built for the Lord was 90 feet long. It was 30 feet wide. And it was 45 feet high.
3 The temple had a porch in front of the main hall. The porch was as wide as the temple itself. It was 30 feet wide. It came out 15 feet from the front of the temple.
4 Solomon made narrow windows high up in the temple walls.
5 He built side rooms around the temple. They were built against the walls of the main hall and the Most Holy Room.
6 On the first floor the side rooms were seven and a half feet wide. On the second floor they were nine feet wide. And on the third floor they were ten and a half feet wide. Solomon made the walls of the temple thinner as they went up floor by floor. The result was ledges along the walls. So the floor beams of the side rooms rested on the ledges. The beams didn't go into the temple walls.
7 All of the stones that were used for building the temple were shaped where they were cut. So hammers, chisels and other iron tools couldn't be heard where the temple was being built.
8 The entrance to the first floor was on the south side of the temple. A stairway led up to the second floor. From there it went on up to the third floor.
9 So Solomon built the temple and finished it. He made its roof out of beams and cedar boards.
10 He built side rooms all along the temple. Each room was seven and a half feet high. They were joined to the temple by cedar beams.
11 A message came to Solomon from the Lord. The Lord said,
12 "You are now building this temple. Follow my orders. Keep my rules. Obey all of my commands. Then I will make the promise I gave your father David come true. I will do it through you.
13 I will live among my people Israel. I will not desert them."
14 So Solomon built the temple and finished it.
15 He put cedar boards on its inside walls. He covered them from floor to ceiling. He covered the temple floor with pine boards.
16 He put up a wall 30 feet from the back of the temple. He made it with cedar boards from floor to ceiling. That formed a room inside the temple. It was the Most Holy Room.
17 The main hall in front of the room was 60 feet long.
18 The inside of the temple was covered with cedar wood. Gourds and open flowers were carved on the wood. Everything was cedar. There wasn't any stone showing anywhere.
19 Solomon prepared the Most Holy Room inside the temple. That's where the ark of the covenant of the Lord would be placed.
20 The Most Holy Room was 30 feet long. It was 30 feet wide. And it was 30 feet high. Solomon covered the inside of it with pure gold. He prepared the cedar altar for burning incense. He covered it with gold.
21 Solomon covered the inside of the main hall with pure gold. He placed gold chains across the front of the Most Holy Room. That room was covered with gold.
22 So Solomon covered the inside of the whole temple with gold. He also covered the altar for burning incense with gold. It was right in front of the Most Holy Room.
23 For the Most Holy Room Solomon made a pair of cherubim. He made them out of olive wood. Each cherub was 15 feet high.
24 One wing of the first cherub was seven and a half feet long. The other wing was also seven and a half feet long. So the wings measured 15 feet from tip to tip.
25 The second cherub's wings also measured 15 feet from tip to tip. The two cherubim had the same size and shape.
26 Each cherub was 15 feet high.
27 Solomon placed the cherubim inside the Most Holy Room in the temple. Their wings were spread out. The wing tip of one cherub touched one wall. The wing tip of the other touched the other wall. The tips of their wings touched each other in the middle of the room.
28 Solomon covered the cherubim with gold.
29 On the walls that were all around the temple he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers. He carved them on the walls of the Most Holy Room and the main hall.
30 He also covered the floors of those two rooms with gold.
31 For the entrance to the Most Holy Room he made two doors out of olive wood. Each doorpost had five sides.
32 On the two olive wood doors he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers. He covered the cherubim and palm trees with hammered gold.
33 In the same way he made olive wood doorposts for the entrance to the main hall. Each doorpost had four sides.
34 He also made two pine doors. Each door had two parts. They turned in bases that were shaped like cups.
35 He carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers on the doors. He covered the doors with gold. He hammered the gold evenly over the carvings.
36 He used blocks of stone to build a wall around the inside courtyard. The first three layers of the wall were made out of stone. The top layer was made out of beautiful cedar wood.
37 The foundation of the Lord's temple was laid in Solomon's fourth year. It was in the month of Ziv.
38 The temple was finished in his 11th year. It was in the month of Bul. That was the eighth month. Everything was finished just as the plans required. Solomon had spent seven years building the temple.
1 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS in the four H702 W-BFS hundred H3967 BFP and eightieth H8084 year H8141 NFS after the children H1121 of Israel H3478 were come out H3318 of the land H776 of Egypt H4714 EFS , in the fourth H7243 year H8141 NFS of Solomon H8010 MMS \'s reign H4427 over H5921 PREP Israel H3478 , in the month H2320 Zif H2099 , which H1931 PPRO-3MS is the second H8145 D-ONUM month H2320 D-NMS , that he began to build H1129 W-VQY3MS the house H1004 D-NMS of the LORD H3068 .
2 And the house H1004 which H834 RPRO king H4428 D-NMS Solomon H8010 MMS built H1129 VQQ3MS for the LORD H3068 L-EDS , the length H753 thereof was threescore H8346 cubits H520 UFS , and the breadth H7341 thereof twenty H6242 W-MMP cubits , and the height H6967 thereof thirty H7970 W-MMP cubits H520 UFS .
3 And the porch H197 before H5921 PREP the temple H1964 CMS of the house H1004 D-NMS , twenty H6242 cubits H520 UFS was the length H753 thereof , according H5921 PREP to the breadth H7341 of the house H1004 ; and ten H6235 MFS cubits H520 was the breadth H7341 thereof before H5921 PREP the house H1004 .
4 And for the house H1004 he made H6213 W-VQY3MS windows H2474 of narrow H331 lights H8261 .
5 And against H5921 PREP the wall H7023 of the house H1004 D-NMS he built H1129 W-VQY3MS chambers H3326 round about H5439 ADV , against the walls H7023 of the house H1004 D-NMS round about H5439 ADV , both of the temple H1964 and of the oracle H1687 : and he made H6213 W-VQY3MS chambers H6763 round about H5439 :
6 The nethermost H8481 chamber H3326 was five H2568 MFS cubits H520 broad H7341 CMS-3FS , and the middle H8484 was six H8337 RFS cubits H520 broad H7341 CMS-3FS , and the third H7992 was seven H7651 MFS cubits H520 broad H7341 CMS-3FS : for H3588 CONJ without H2351 in the wall of the house H1004 he made H5414 VQQ3MS narrowed rests H4052 round about H5439 ADV , that the beams should not H1115 L-NPAR be fastened H270 in the walls H7023 of the house H1004 .
7 And the house H1004 , when it was in building H1129 , was built H1129 of stone H68 made ready H8003 before it was brought H4551 NMS thither : so that there was neither H3808 ADV hammer H4718 nor axe H1631 nor any H3605 NMS tool H3627 CMS of iron H1270 heard H8085 VQY1MP in the house H1004 , while it was in building H1129 .
8 The door H6607 CMS for the middle H8484 chamber H6763 D-GFS was in H413 PREP the right H3233 side H3802 of the house H1004 D-NMS : and they went up H5927 with winding stairs H3883 into H5921 PREP the middle H8484 chamber , and out of H4480 W-PREP the middle H8484 into H413 PREP the third H7992 .
9 So he built H1129 W-VQY3MS the house H1004 D-NMS , and finished H3615 it ; and covered H5603 the house H1004 D-NMS with beams H1356 and boards H7713 of cedar H730 .
10 And then he built H1129 W-VQY3MS chambers H3326 against H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS the house H1004 D-NMS , five H2568 MFS cubits H520 high H6967 : and they rested on the house H1004 D-NMS with timber H6086 of cedar H730 .
11 And the word H1697 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS came H1961 W-VPY3MS to H413 PREP Solomon H8010 MMS , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
12 Concerning this H2088 D-PMS house H1004 D-NMS which H834 RPRO thou H859 PPRO-2MS art in building H1129 , if H518 PART thou wilt walk H1980 VQY2MS in my statutes H2708 , and execute H6213 VQY2MS my judgments H4941 , and keep H8104 all H3605 NMS my commandments H4687 to walk H1980 L-VQFC in them ; then will I perform H6965 W-VHQ1MS my word H1697 with thee H854 PART-2MS , which H834 RPRO I spoke H1696 VPQ1MS unto H413 PREP David H1732 MMS thy father H1 :
13 And I will dwell H7931 among H8432 B-NMS the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , and will not H3808 W-NPAR forsake H5800 my people H5971 Israel H3478 LMS .
14 So Solomon H8010 MMS built H1129 W-VQY3MS the house H1004 D-NMS , and finished H3615 it .
15 And he built H1129 W-VQY3MS the walls H7023 of the house H1004 D-NMS within H1004 with boards H6763 of cedar H730 , both the floor H7172 of the house H1004 D-NMS , and the walls H7023 of the ceiling H5604 : and he covered H6823 them on the inside H1004 with wood H6086 NMS , and covered H6823 the floor H7172 of the house H1004 D-NMS with planks H6763 of fir H1265 .
16 And he built H1129 W-VQY3MS twenty H6242 cubits H520 UFS on the sides H3411 of the house H1004 D-NMS , both H4480 PREP the floor H7172 and the walls H7023 with boards H6763 of cedar H730 : he even built H1129 W-VQY3MS them for it within H1004 M-NMS , even for the oracle H1687 , even for the most holy H6944 place .
17 And the house H1004 , that H1931 PPRO-3MS is , the temple H1964 before H3942 it , was H1961 VQQ3MS forty H705 W-MMP cubits H520 long .
18 And the cedar H730 of H413 PREP the house H1004 D-NMS within H6441 was carved H4734 with knops H6497 and open H6358 flowers H6731 : all H3605 was cedar H730 ; there was no H369 NPAR stone H68 GFS seen H7200 .
19 And the oracle H1687 he prepared H3559 in the house H8432 B-NMS within H6441 , to set H5414 there H8033 ADV the ark H727 of the covenant H1285 NFS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
20 And the oracle H1687 in the forepart H6440 WL-CMP was twenty H6242 cubits H520 UFS in length H753 CMS , and twenty H6242 W-MMP cubits H520 UFS in breadth H7341 , and twenty H6242 W-MMP cubits H520 UFS in the height H6967 thereof : and he overlaid H6823 it with pure H5462 VWPMS gold H2091 NMS ; and so covered H6823 the altar H4196 NMS which was of cedar H730 .
21 So Solomon H8010 MMS overlaid H6823 the house H1004 D-NMS within H6441 with pure H5462 VWPMS gold H2091 NMS : and he made a partition H5674 by the chains H7569 of gold H2091 NMS before H6440 L-CMP the oracle H1687 ; and he overlaid H6823 it with gold H2091 .
22 And the whole H3605 NMS house H1004 D-NMS he overlaid H6823 with gold H2091 NMS , until H5704 PREP he had finished H8552 all H3605 NMS the house H1004 : also the whole H3605 NMS altar H4196 D-NMS that H834 RPRO was by the oracle H1687 he overlaid H6823 with gold H2091 .
23 And within the oracle H1687 he made H6213 W-VQY3MS two H8147 ONUM cherubims H3742 of olive H8081 tree H6086 CMP , each ten H6235 MFS cubits H520 high H6967 .
24 And five H2568 cubits H520 was the one H259 wing H3671 CFS of the cherub H3742 , and five H2568 cubits H520 the other H8145 D-ONUM wing H3671 CFS of the cherub H3742 : from the uttermost part H7098 of the one wing H3671 unto H5704 W-PREP the uttermost part H7098 CFP of the other H3671 were ten H6235 MFS cubits H520 .
25 And the other H8145 D-ONUM cherub H3742 was ten H6235 cubits H520 : both H8147 the cherubims H3742 were of one H259 OFS measure H4060 and one H259 MMS size H7095 .
26 The height H6967 of the one H259 D-AMS cherub H3742 was ten H6235 MFS cubits H520 , and so H3651 was it of the other H8145 cherub H3742 .
27 And he set H5414 W-VQQ3MS the cherubims H3742 within H8432 B-NMS the inner H6442 house H1004 D-NMS : and they stretched forth the wings H3671 of the cherubims H3742 D-NMP , so that the wing H3671 CFS of the one H259 D-AMS touched H5060 the one wall H7023 , and the wing H3671 of the other H8145 D-ONUM cherub H3742 touched H5060 the other H8145 D-ONUM wall H7023 ; and their wings H3671 touched H5060 one H3671 GFS another H3671 GFS in H413 PREP the midst H8432 B-NMS of the house H1004 D-NMS .
28 And he overlaid H6823 the cherubims H3742 with gold H2091 .
29 And he carved H7049 all H3605 NMS the walls H7023 of the house H1004 D-NMS round about H4524 with carved H6603 figures H4734 of cherubims H3742 and palm trees H8561 and open H6358 flowers H6731 , within H6440 and without H2435 .
30 And the floor H7172 of the house H1004 D-NMS he overlaid H6823 with gold H2091 NMS , within H6441 and without H2435 .
31 And for the entering H6607 CMS of the oracle H1687 he made H6213 VQQ3MS doors H1817 of olive H8081 tree H6086 CMP : the lintel H352 and side posts H4201 were a fifth part H2549 of the wall .
32 The two H8147 doors H1817 also were of olive H8081 NMS tree H6086 CMP ; and he carved H7049 upon H5921 PREP them carvings H4734 of cherubims H3742 and palm trees H8561 and open H6358 flowers H6731 , and overlaid H6823 them with gold H2091 NMS , and spread H7286 gold H2091 D-NMS upon H5921 PREP the cherubims H3742 , and upon H5921 PREP the palm trees H8561 .
33 So H3651 also made H6213 VQQ3MS he for the door H6607 of the temple H1964 posts H4201 of olive H8081 tree H6086 CMP , a fourth part H854 of the wall .
34 And the two H8147 doors H1817 were of fir H1265 tree H6086 CMP : the two H8147 ONUM leaves H6763 of the one H259 D-ONUM door H1817 were folding H1550 , and the two H8147 leaves H7050 of the other H8145 D-ONUM door H1817 were folding H1550 .
35 And he carved H7049 thereon cherubims H3742 and palm trees H8561 and open H6358 flowers H6731 : and covered H6823 them with gold H2091 NMS fitted H3474 upon H5921 PREP the carved work H2707 .
36 And he built H1129 W-VQY3MS the inner H6442 court H2691 with three H7969 NFS rows H2905 of hewed stone H1496 , and a row H2905 of cedar H730 beams H3773 .
37 In the fourth H7243 year H8141 was the foundation H3245 of the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS laid , in the month H3391 Zif H2099 :
38 And in the eleventh H259 year H8141 , in the month H3391 Bul H945 , which H1931 PPRO-3MS is the eighth H8066 month H2320 D-NMS , was the house H1004 D-NMS finished H3615 VQQ3MS throughout all H3605 L-CMS the parts H1697 CMP-3MS thereof , and according to all H3605 the fashion H4941 of it . So was he seven H7651 MFS years H8141 in building H1129 it .
