Isaiah 13:1 (NIRV) New International Reader's Version

1 Here is the vision about Babylonia that Isaiah, the son of Amoz, saw.
2 Lift up a banner on the top of a bare hill. Shout to the enemy soldiers. Wave for them to enter the gates that are used by the nobles of Babylon.
3 The Lord has set those soldiers apart to fight for him. He has sent for them to carry out his anger against Babylon. They will be happy when he wins the battle for them.
4 Listen! I hear a noise in the mountains. It sounds like a huge crowd. Listen! I hear a loud noise among the kingdoms. It sounds like nations gathering together. The Lord who rules over all is bringing an army together for war.
5 They come from lands far away. They come from the farthest places on earth. The Lord and those weapons of his anger are coming to destroy the whole country of Babylonia.
6 Cry out! The day of the Lord is near. The Mighty One is coming to destroy them.
7 Their hands won't be able to help them. Everyone's heart will melt away in fear.
8 The people will be filled with terror. Pain and suffering will grab hold of them. They will groan with pain like a woman having a baby. They'll look at one another in terror. Their faces will burn with shame.
9 The day of the Lord is coming. It will be a terrible day. The Lord's burning anger will blaze out. He will make the land dry and empty. He'll destroy the sinners in it.
10 All of the stars in the sky will stop giving their light. The sun will be darkened as soon as it rises. The moon will not shine.
11 The Lord will punish the world because it is so evil. He will punish evil people for their sins. He'll put an end to the bragging of those who are proud. He'll bring down the pride of those who don't show any pity.
12 He'll make men harder to find than pure gold. They will be harder to find than gold from Ophir.
13 He will make the heavens tremble. He'll shake the earth out of its place. The Lord who rules over all will show how angry he is. At that time his burning anger will blaze out.
14 Outsiders who live in Babylonia will scatter like antelope that are chased by a hunter. They are like sheep that don't have a shepherd. All of them will return to their own people. They will run back to their own countries.
15 Those who are captured will have spears stuck through them. Those who are caught will be killed with swords.
16 Their babies will be smashed to pieces right in front of their eyes. Their houses will be robbed. Their wives will be raped.
17 The Lord will stir up the Medes to attack the Babylonians. They aren't interested in getting silver. They don't delight in gold.
18 Instead, they will use their bows and arrows to strike the young men down. They won't even show any mercy to babies. They won't take pity on children.
19 The city of Babylon is the jewel of kingdoms. It is the glory and pride of the Babylonians. But God will destroy it just as he did Sodom and Gomorrah.
20 No one will ever live in Babylon again. No one will live there for all time to come. Arabs will never set up their tents there. Shepherds will never rest their flocks there.
21 But desert creatures will lie down there. Wild dogs will fill its houses. Owls will live there. Wild goats will jump around in it.
22 Hyenas will cry out in its forts. Wild dogs will bark in its beautiful palaces. The time for Babylon to be punished is near. Its days are numbered.

4 The noise H6963 CMS of a multitude H1995 NMS in the mountains H2022 , like H1823 as of a great H7227 AMS people H5971 NMS ; a tumultuous H7588 noise H6963 CMS of the kingdoms H4467 of nations H1471 NMP gathered together H622 : the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 mustereth H6485 the host H6635 of the battle H4421 .
5 They come H935 from a far country H4801 , from the end H7097 M-CMS of heaven H8064 D-AMP , even the LORD H3068 EDS , and the weapons H3627 of his indignation H2195 , to destroy H2254 the whole H3605 NMS land H776 M-NFS .
6 Howl H3213 ye ; for H3588 CONJ the day H3117 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS is at hand H7138 AMS ; it shall come H935 VQY3MS as a destruction H7701 from the Almighty H7706 M-EMS .
7 Therefore H5921 PREP shall all H3605 NMS hands H3027 NFD be faint H7503 , and every H3605 NMS man H582 NMS \'s heart H3824 shall melt H4549 :
8 And they shall be afraid H926 : pangs H6735 and sorrows H2256 shall take hold H270 of them ; they shall be in pain H2342 as a woman that travaileth H3205 : they shall be amazed H8539 one H376 NMS at H413 PREP another H7453 NMS-3MS ; their faces H6440 CMP shall be as flames H3851 .
9 Behold H2009 IJEC , the day H3117 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS cometh H935 VQPMS , cruel H394 both with wrath H5678 and fierce H2740 anger H639 NMS , to lay H7760 L-VQFC the land H776 D-GFS desolate H8047 : and he shall destroy H8045 the sinners H2400 thereof out of H4480 PREP-3FS it .
10 For H3588 CONJ the stars H3556 of heaven H8064 D-NMD and the constellations H3685 thereof shall not H3808 NADV give H1984 their light H216 CMS-3MP : the sun H8121 D-NMS shall be darkened H2821 VQQ3MS in his going forth H3318 B-VQFC-3MS , and the moon H3394 W-NMS shall not H3808 ADV cause her light H216 CMS-3MS to shine H5050 .
11 And I will punish H6485 the world H8398 NFS for H5921 PREP their evil H7451 AFS , and the wicked H7563 AMP for H5921 PREP their iniquity H5771 ; and I will cause the arrogance H1347 CMS of the proud H2086 to cease H7673 , and will lay low H8213 the haughtiness H1346 of the terrible H6184 AMP .
12 I will make a man H582 more precious H3365 than fine gold H6337 ; even a man H120 W-NMS than the golden wedge H3800 of Ophir H211 LFS .
13 Therefore H5921 PREP I will shake H7264 the heavens H8064 NMP , and the earth H776 D-GFS shall remove H7493 out of her place H4725 M-CMS-3FS , in the wrath H5678 of the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , and in the day H3117 of his fierce H2740 CMS anger H639 CMS-3MS .
14 And it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS as the chased H5080 roe H6643 , and as a sheep H6629 that no H369 W-NPAR man taketh up H6908 : they shall every man H376 NMS turn H6437 to H413 PREP his own people H5971 , and flee H5127 every one H376 NMS into H413 PREP his own land H776 .
15 Every one H3605 NMS that is found H4672 shall be thrust through H1856 ; and every one H3605 NMS that is joined H5595 unto them shall fall H5307 by the sword H2719 .
16 Their children H5768 also shall be dashed H7376 to pieces before their eyes H5869 ; their houses H1004 shall be spoiled H8155 , and their wives H802 ravished H7693 .
17 Behold H2009 , I will stir up H5782 the Medes H4074 against H5921 PREP-3MP them , which H834 RPRO shall not H3808 NADV regard H2803 silver H3701 NMS ; and as for gold H2091 , they shall not H3808 NADV delight H2654 in it .
18 Their bows H7198 also shall dash H7376 the young men H5288 NMP to pieces ; and they shall have no H3808 NADV pity H7355 on the fruit H6529 of the womb H990 ; their eye H5869 shall not H3808 ADV spare H2347 children H1121 NMP .
19 And Babylon H894 , the glory H6643 of kingdoms H4467 , the beauty H8597 of the Chaldees H3778 TMP \' excellency H1347 CMS , shall be H1961 W-VQQ3FS as when God H430 EDP overthrew H4114 Sodom H5467 TFS and Gomorrah H6017 .
20 It shall never H3808 ADV be inhabited H3427 , neither H3808 W-NADV shall it be dwelt H7931 in from generation H1755 to H5704 PREP generation H1755 : neither H3808 ADV shall the Arabian H6163 pitch tent H167 there H8033 ADV ; neither H3808 NADV shall the shepherds H7462 make their fold H7257 there H8033 ADV .
21 But wild beasts of the desert H6728 shall lie H7257 there H8033 ADV ; and their houses H1004 CMP-3MP shall be full H4390 of doleful creatures H255 ; and owls H1323 CFP shall dwell H7931 there H8033 ADV , and satyrs H8163 shall dance H7540 there H8033 ADV .
22 And the wild beasts of the islands H338 shall cry H6030 in their desolate houses H490 , and dragons H8577 in their pleasant H6027 palaces H1964 : and her time H6256 is near H7138 to come H935 L-VQFC , and her days H3117 shall not H3808 NADV be prolonged H4900 .
