Matthew 19:1 (NIRV) New International Reader's Version

1 When Jesus finished saying these things, he left Galilee. He went into the area of Judea on the other side of the Jordan River.
2 Large crowds followed him. He healed them there.
3 Some Pharisees came to put him to the test. They asked, "Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?"
4 Jesus replied, "Haven't you read that in the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female'?--(Genesis 1:27)
5 He said, 'That's why a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. The two will become one.'--(Genesis 2:24)
6 They are no longer two, but one. So a man must not separate what God has joined together."
7 They asked, "Then why did Moses command that a man can give his wife a letter of divorce and send her away?"
8 Jesus replied, "Moses let you divorce your wives because you were stubborn. But it was not this way from the beginning.
9 Here is what I tell you. Anyone who divorces his wife and gets married to another woman commits adultery. A man may divorce his wife only if she has not been faithful to him."
10 The disciples said to him, "If that's the way it is between a husband and wife, it is better not to get married."
11 Jesus replied, "Not everyone can accept the idea of staying single. Only those who have been helped to live without getting married can accept it.
12 Some men are not able to have children because they were born that way. Some have been made that way by other people. Others have made themselves that way in order to serve the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept living that way should do it."
13 Some people brought little children to Jesus. They wanted him to place his hands on the children and pray for them. But the disciples told the people to stop.
14 Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me. Don't keep them away. The kingdom of heaven belongs to people like them."
15 Jesus placed his hands on them. Then he went on from there.
16 A man came up to Jesus. He asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to receive eternal life?"
17 "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter the kingdom, obey the commandments."
18 "Which ones?" the man asked. Jesus said, " 'Do not commit murder. Do not commit adultery. Do not steal. Do not give false witness.
19 Honor your father and mother.'--(Exodus 20:12?16; Deuteronomy 5:16?20) And 'love your neighbor as you love yourself.' "--(Leviticus 19:18)
20 "I have obeyed all those commandments," the young man said. "What else do I need to do?"
21 Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go and sell everything you have. Give the money to those who are poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me."
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad. He was very rich.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "What I'm about to tell you is true. It is hard for rich people to enter the kingdom of heaven.
24 Again I tell you, it is hard for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. But it is even harder for the rich to enter God's kingdom."
25 When the disciples heard this, they were really amazed. They asked, "Then who can be saved?"
26 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man, that is impossible. But with God, all things are possible."
27 Peter answered him, "We have left everything to follow you! What reward will be given to us?"
28 "What I'm about to tell you is true," Jesus said to them. "When all things are made new, the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne. Then you who have followed me will also sit on 12 thrones. You will judge the 12 tribes of Israel.
29 Everyone who has left houses or families or fields because of me will receive 100 times as much. They will also receive eternal life.
30 But many who are first will be last. And many who are last will be first.

3 The G3588 T-NPM Pharisees G5330 N-NPM also G2532 CONJ came G4334 V-AAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM , tempting G3985 V-PAP-NPM him G846 P-ASM , and G2532 CONJ saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM unto him G846 P-DSM , Is it lawful G1832 V-PQI-3S for a man G444 N-DSM to put away G630 V-AAN his G3588 T-ASF wife G1135 N-ASF for G2596 PREP every G3956 A-ASF cause G156 N-ASF ?

6 Wherefore G5620 CONJ they are G1526 V-PXI-3P no more G3765 ADV twain G1417 A-NUI , but G235 CONJ one G3391 flesh G4561 N-NSF . What G3739 R-ASN therefore G3767 CONJ God G2316 N-NSM hath joined together G4801 V-AAI-3S , let not G3361 PRT-N man G444 N-NSM put asunder G5563 V-PAM-3S .

9 And G1161 CONJ I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , Whosoever G302 PRT shall put away G630 V-AAS-3S his G3588 T-ASF wife G1135 N-ASF , except G1508 it be for G1909 PREP fornication G4202 N-DSF , and G2532 CONJ shall marry G1060 V-AAS-3S another G243 A-ASF , committeth adultery G3429 V-PNI-3S : and G2532 CONJ whoso marrieth G1060 V-AAP-NSM her which is put away G630 V-RPP-ASF doth commit adultery G3429 V-PNI-3S .
10 His G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM say G3004 V-PAI-3P unto him G846 P-GSM , If G1487 COND the G3588 T-NSF case G156 N-NSF of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM man G444 N-GSM be G2076 V-PXI-3S so G3779 ADV with G3326 PREP his wife G1135 N-GSF , it is not good G4851 V-PAI-3S to marry G1060 V-AAN .
11 But G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , All G3956 A-NPM men cannot receive G5562 V-PAI-3P this G3588 T-ASM saying G3056 N-ASM , save G235 CONJ they to whom G3739 R-DPM it is given G1325 V-RPI-3S .
12 For G1063 CONJ there are G1526 V-PXI-3P some eunuchs G2135 N-NPM , which G3748 R-NPM were so G3779 ADV born G1080 V-API-3P from G1537 PREP their mother G3384 N-GSF \'s womb G2836 N-GSF : and G2532 CONJ there are G1526 V-PXI-3P some eunuchs G2135 N-NPM , which G3748 R-NPM were made eunuchs G2134 V-AAI-3P of G3588 T-GPM men G444 N-GPM : and G2532 CONJ there be G1526 V-PXI-3P eunuchs G2135 N-NPM , which G3748 R-NPM have made themselves eunuchs G2134 V-AAI-3P for the kingdom of heaven\'s sake G1223 PREP . He that is able G1410 V-PNP-NSM to receive G5562 V-PAN it , let him receive G5562 V-PAM-3S it .
13 Then G5119 ADV were there brought G4336 V-ADS-3S unto him G846 P-DSM little children G3813 N-NPN , that G2443 CONJ he G3588 T-APF should put G2007 V-2AAS-3S his hands G5495 N-APF on them G846 P-DPN , and G2532 CONJ pray G4374 V-API-3S : and G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-APF disciples G3101 N-NPM rebuked G2008 V-AAI-3P them G846 P-DPM .
14 But G1161 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Suffer G863 V-2AAM-2P little children G3813 N-APN , and G2532 CONJ forbid G2967 V-PAM-2P them G846 P-APN not G3361 PRT-N , to come G2064 V-2AAN unto G4314 PREP me G3588 T-GPN : for G1063 CONJ of such G5108 D-GPN is G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSF kingdom G932 N-NSF of heaven G3772 N-GPM .
15 And G2532 CONJ he G3588 T-APF laid G2007 V-2AAP-NSM his hands G5495 N-APF on them G846 P-DPN , and departed G4198 V-AOI-3S thence G1564 ADV .
16 And G2532 CONJ , behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , one G1520 A-NSM came G4334 V-2AAP-NSM and said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Good G18 A-VSM Master G1320 N-VSM , what G5101 I-ASN good thing G18 A-ASN shall I do G4160 V-AAS-1S , that G2443 CONJ I may have G2192 V-PAS-1S eternal G166 A-ASF life G2222 N-ASF ?
17 And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Why G5101 I-ASN callest G3004 V-PAI-2S thou me G3165 P-1AS good G18 A-ASM ? there is none G3762 A-NSM good G18 A-NSM but G1508 one G1520 A-NSM , that G3588 T-NSM is , God G2316 N-NSM : but G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND thou wilt G2309 V-PAI-2S enter G1525 V-2AAN into G1519 PREP life G2222 N-ASF , keep G5083 V-AAM-2S the G3588 T-APF commandments G1785 N-APF .
18 He saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Which G4169 I-APF ? Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Thou shalt G3588 T-NSM do no murder G5407 V-FAI-2S , Thou shalt not G3756 PRT-N commit adultery G3431 V-FAI-2S , Thou shalt not G3756 PRT-N steal G2813 V-FAI-2S , Thou shalt not bear false witness G5576 V-FAI-2S ,
19 Honor G5091 V-PAM-2S thy G3588 T-ASM father G3962 N-ASM and G2532 CONJ thy G3588 T-ASF mother : and G3384 N-ASF , Thou shalt love G25 V-FAI-2S thy G3588 T-ASM neighbor G4139 ADV as G5613 ADV thyself G4572 F-2ASM .
20 The G3588 T-NSM young man G3495 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , All G3956 A-APN these things G5023 D-APN have I kept G5442 V-AMI-1S from G1537 PREP my G3450 P-1GS youth G3503 N-GSF up : what G5101 I-ASN lack G5302 V-PAI-1S I yet G2089 ADV ?
21 Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G5346 V-IXI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , If G1487 COND thou wilt G2309 V-PAI-2S be G1511 V-PXN perfect G5046 A-NSM , go G5217 V-PAM-2S and sell G4453 V-AAM-2S that thou hast G5224 V-PAP-APN , and G2532 CONJ give G1325 V-2AAM-2S to the poor G4434 A-DPM , and G2532 CONJ thou shalt have G2192 V-FAI-2S treasure G2344 N-ASM in G1722 PREP heaven G3772 N-DSM : and G2532 CONJ come G1204 V-XXM-2S and follow G190 V-PAM-2S me G3427 P-1DS .
22 But G1161 CONJ when the G3588 T-NSM young man G3495 N-NSM heard G191 V-AAP-NSM that saying G3056 N-ASM , he went away G565 V-2AAI-3S sorrowful G3076 V-PPP-NSM : for G1063 CONJ he had G2258 V-IXI-3S great G4183 A-APN possessions G2933 N-APN .
23 Then G1161 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S Jesus G2424 N-NSM unto his G3588 T-DPM disciples G3101 N-DPM , Verily G281 HEB I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , That G3754 CONJ a rich man G4145 A-NSM shall hardly G1423 ADV enter G1525 V-FDI-3S into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF kingdom G932 N-ASF of heaven G3772 N-GPM .
24 And G1161 CONJ again G3825 ADV I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , It is G2076 V-PXI-3S easier G2123 A-NSN-C for a camel G2574 N-ASM to go G1330 V-2AAN through G1223 PREP the eye G5169 N-GSN of a needle G4476 N-GSF , than G2228 PRT for a rich man G4145 A-ASM to enter G1525 V-2AAN into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF kingdom G932 N-ASF of God G2316 N-GSM .
25 When G1161 CONJ his G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM heard G191 V-AAP-NPM it , they were exceedingly G4970 ADV amazed G1605 V-IPI-3P , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , Who G5101 I-NSM then G686 can G1410 V-PNI-3S be saved G4982 V-APN ?
26 But G1161 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM beheld G1689 V-AAP-NSM them , and said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , With G3844 PREP men G444 N-DPM this G5124 D-NSN is G2076 V-PXI-3S impossible G102 A-NSN ; but G1161 CONJ with G3844 PREP God G2316 N-DSM all things G3956 A-NPN are G2076 V-PXI-3S possible G1415 A-NPN .
27 Then G5119 ADV answered G611 V-AOP-NSM Peter G4074 N-NSM and said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , we G2249 P-1NP have forsaken G863 V-AAI-1S all G3956 A-APN , and G2532 CONJ followed G190 V-AAI-1P thee G4671 P-2DS ; what G5101 I-NSN shall we G2254 P-1DP have G2071 V-FXI-3S therefore G686 ?

29 And G2532 CONJ every one G3956 A-NSM that G3739 R-NSM hath forsaken G863 V-AAI-3S houses G3614 N-APF , or G2228 PRT brethren G80 N-APM , or G2228 PRT sisters G79 N-APF , or G2228 PRT father G3962 N-ASM , or G2228 PRT mother G3384 N-ASF , or G2228 PRT wife G1135 N-ASF , or G2228 PRT children G5043 N-APN , or G2228 PRT lands G68 N-APM , for my name\'s sake G1752 ADV , shall receive G2983 V-FDI-3S a hundredfold G1542 A-APN , and G2532 CONJ shall inherit G2816 V-FAI-3S everlasting G166 A-ASF life G2222 N-ASF .
30 But G1161 CONJ many G4183 A-NPM that are first G4413 A-NPM shall be G2071 V-FXI-3P last G2078 A-NPM ; and G2532 CONJ the last G2078 A-NPM shall be first G4413 A-NPM .
