Isaiah 61:1 (NIRV) New International Reader's Version

1 The Spirit of the Lord and King is on me. The Lord has anointed me to tell the good news to poor people. He has sent me to comfort those whose hearts have been broken. He has sent me to announce freedom for those who have been captured. He wants me to set prisoners free from their dark prisons.
2 He has sent me to announce the year when he will set his people free. He wants me to announce the day when he will pay his enemies back. Our God has sent me to comfort all those who are sad.
3 He wants me to help those in Zion who are filled with sorrow. I will put beautiful crowns on their heads in place of ashes. I will anoint them with oil to give them gladness instead of sorrow. I will give them a spirit of praise in place of a spirit of sadness. They will be like oak trees that are strong and straight. The Lord himself will plant them in the land. That will show how glorious he is.
4 They will rebuild the places that were destroyed long ago. They will repair the buildings that have been broken down for many years. They will make the destroyed cities like new again. They have been broken down for a very long time.
5 Outsiders will serve you by taking care of your flocks. People from other lands will work in your fields and vineyards.
6 You will be called priests of the Lord. You will be named workers for our God. You will enjoy the wealth of nations. You will brag about getting their riches.
7 Instead of being put to shame my people will receive a double share of wealth. Instead of being dishonored they will be glad to be in their land. They will receive a double share of riches there. And they'll be filled with joy that will last forever.
8 The Lord says, "I love those who do what is right. I hate it when people steal and do other sinful things. So I will be faithful to those who do what is right. And I will bless them. I will make a covenant with them that will last forever.
9 Their children after them will be famous among the nations. Their families will be praised by people everywhere. All those who see them will agree that I have blessed them."
10 The people of Jerusalem will say, "We take great delight in the Lord. We are joyful because we belong to our God. He has dressed us with salvation as if it were our clothes. He has put robes of godliness on us. We are like a groom who is dressed up for his wedding. We are like a bride who decorates herself with her jewels.
11 The soil makes the young plant come up. A garden causes seeds to grow. In the same way, the Lord and King will make godliness grow. And all of the nations will praise him."

2 To proclaim H7121 the acceptable H7522 year H8141 of the LORD H3068 L-EDS , and the day H3117 W-NMS of vengeance H5359 of our God H430 ; to comfort H5162 all H3605 NMS that mourn H57 ;
3 To appoint H7760 L-VQFC unto them that mourn H57 in Zion H6726 , to give H5414 L-VQFC unto them beauty H6287 for H8478 NMS ashes H665 NMS , the oil H8081 NMS of joy H8342 for H8478 NMS mourning H60 , the garment H4594 of praise H8416 for H8478 NMS the spirit H7307 NFS of heaviness H3544 ; that they might be called H7121 trees H352 of righteousness H6664 , the planting H4302 of the LORD H3068 EDS , that he might be glorified H6286 .
4 And they shall build H1129 the old H5769 NMS wastes H2723 , they shall raise up H6965 the former H7223 desolations H8074 , and they shall repair H2318 the waste H2721 cities H5892 , the desolations H8074 of many generations H1755 .
5 And strangers H2114 shall stand H5975 and feed H7462 your flocks H6629 , and the sons H1121 W-CMP of the alien H5236 shall be your plowmen H406 and your vinedressers H3755 .
6 But ye H859 W-PPRO-2MP shall be named H7121 the Priests H3548 of the LORD H3068 EDS : men shall call H559 you the Ministers H8334 of our God H430 : ye shall eat H398 the riches H2428 of the Gentiles H1471 NMP , and in their glory H3519 shall ye boast yourselves H3235 .
7 For H8478 NMS your shame H1322 ye shall have double H4932 ; and for confusion H3639 they shall rejoice H7442 in their portion H2506 : therefore H3651 L-ADV in their land H776 they shall possess H3423 the double H4932 : everlasting H5769 NMS joy H8057 shall be H1961 VQY3FS unto them .
8 For H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS love H157 judgment H4941 NMS , I hate H8130 robbery H1498 for burnt offering H5930 ; and I will direct H5414 their work H6468 in truth H571 , and I will make H3772 an everlasting H5769 NMS covenant H1285 with them .
9 And their seed H2233 CMS-3MP shall be known H3045 among the Gentiles H1471 , and their offspring H6631 W-CMP-3MP among H8432 B-NMS the people H5971 : all H3605 NMS that see H7200 them shall acknowledge H5234 them , that H3588 CONJ they H1992 PPRO-3MP are the seed H2233 NMS which the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS hath blessed H1288 VPQ3MS .
10 I will greatly rejoice H7797 in the LORD H3068 , my soul H5315 CFS-1MS shall be joyful H1523 in my God H430 ; for H3588 CONJ he hath clothed H3847 me with the garments H899 of salvation H3468 , he hath covered H3271 me with the robe H4598 of righteousness H6666 NFS , as a bridegroom H2860 decketh H3547 himself with ornaments H6287 , and as a bride H3618 adorneth H5710 herself with her jewels H3627 .
11 For H3588 CONJ as the earth H776 bringeth forth H3318 her bud H6780 , and as the garden H1593 causeth the things that are sown H2221 in it to spring forth H6779 ; so H3651 ADV the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 will cause righteousness H6666 NFS and praise H8416 to spring forth H6779 before H5048 all H3605 NMS the nations H1471 .
