Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIRV) New International Reader's Version

1 There is a time for everything. There's a time for everything that is done on earth.
2 There is a time to be born. And there's a time to die. There is a time to plant. And there's a time to pull up what is planted.
3 There is a time to kill. And there's a time to heal. There is a time to tear down. And there's a time to build up.
4 There is a time to cry. And there's a time to laugh. There is a time to be sad. And there's a time to dance.
5 There is a time to scatter stones. And there's a time to gather them. There is a time to hug. And there's a time not to hug.
6 There is a time to search. And there's a time to stop searching. There is a time to keep. And there's a time to throw away.
7 There is a time to tear. And there's a time to mend. There is a time to be silent. And there's a time to speak.
8 There is a time to love. And there's a time to hate. There is a time for war. And there's a time for peace.
9 What does the worker get for his hard work?
10 I've seen the heavy load God has put on men.
11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also given men a sense of what he's been doing down through the ages. But they can't completely figure out what he's done from the beginning to the end.
12 They should be happy and do good while they live. I know there's nothing better for them to do than that.
13 Everyone should eat and drink. People should be satisfied with all of their hard work. That is God's gift to them.
14 I know that everything God does will last forever. Nothing can be added to it. And nothing can be taken from it. God does that so men will have respect for him.
15 Everything that now exists has already been. And what is coming has existed before. God will judge those who treat others badly.
16 Here's something else I saw on earth. Where people should be treated right, they are treated wrong. Where people should be treated fairly, they are treated unfairly.
17 I said to myself, "God will judge godly and sinful people alike. He has a time for every act. He has a time for everything that is done."
18 I also thought, "God puts human beings to the test. Then they can see they are just like animals.
19 What happens to animals happens to people too. Death waits for people and animals alike. People die, just as animals do. All of them have the same breath. People don't have any advantage over animals. Nothing has any meaning.
20 "People and animals go to the same place. All of them come from dust. And all of them return to dust.
21 Who can know whether the spirit of a man goes up? Who can tell whether the spirit of an animal goes down into the earth?"
22 So man should enjoy his work. That's what God made him for. I saw that there's nothing better for him to do than that. After all, who can show him what will happen after he is gone?

10 I have seen H7200 VQQ1MS the travail H6045 , which H834 RPRO God H430 EDP hath given H5414 VQQ3MS to the sons H1121 L-CMP of men H120 D-NMS to be exercised H6031 in it .
11 He hath made H6213 VQQ3MS every H3605 thing beautiful H3303 in his time H6256 : also H1571 CONJ he hath set H5414 VQQ3MS the world H5769 in their heart H3820 , so that H834 RPRO no H1097 M-NPAR man H120 D-NMS can find out H4672 VQY3MS the work H4639 that H834 RPRO God H430 D-EDP maketh H6213 VQQ3MS from the beginning H7218 to H5704 W-PREP the end H5490 .
12 I know H3045 VQY1MS that H3588 CONJ there is no H369 NPAR good H2896 AMS in them , but H518 PART for H3588 CONJ a man to rejoice H8055 , and to do H6213 good H2896 AMS in his life H2416 .
13 And also H1571 W-CONJ that every man should eat H7945 and drink H8354 , and enjoy H7200 the good H2896 AMS of all H3605 NMS his labor H5999 , it H1931 is the gift H4991 of God H430 EDP .
14 I know H3045 VQY1MS that H3588 CONJ , whatsoever H3605 NMS God H430 D-EDP doeth H6213 VQY3MS , it H1931 PPRO-3MS shall be H1961 VQY3MS forever H5769 L-NMS : nothing H369 NPAR can be put H3254 to H5921 PREP-3MS it , nor H369 NPAR any thing taken H1639 from H4480 it : and God H430 doeth H6213 VQQ3MS it , that men should fear H7945 before H6440 him .
15 That which hath been H4100 IPRO is now H3528 ; and that H1931 PPRO-3MS which H834 W-RPRO is to be H1961 hath already H3528 been H1961 ; and God H430 requireth H1245 that which is past H7291 .
16 And moreover H5750 W-ADV I saw H7200 VQQ1MS under H8478 NMS the sun H8121 the place H4725 CMS of judgment H4941 , that wickedness H7562 was there H8033 ADV-3FS ; and the place H4725 of righteousness H6664 , that iniquity H7562 was there H8033 ADV-3FS .
17 I H589 PPRO-1MS said H559 in mine heart H3820 , God H430 D-EDP shall judge H8199 the righteous H6662 and the wicked H7563 : for H3588 CONJ there is a time H6256 NMS there H8033 ADV for every H3605 NMS purpose H2656 and for H5921 W-PREP every H3605 NMS work H4639 .
18 I H589 PPRO-1MS said H559 in mine heart H3820 concerning H5921 PREP the estate H1700 of the sons H1121 of men H120 D-NMS , that God H430 D-EDP might manifest H1305 them , and that they H1992 might see H7200 that they H7945 themselves are beasts H929 NFS .
19 For H3588 CONJ that which befalleth H4745 the sons H1121 of men H120 D-NMS befalleth H4745 beasts H929 D-NFS ; even one thing H259 MMS befalleth H4745 them : as the one H2088 DPRO dieth H4194 , so H3651 ADV dieth H4194 the other H2088 DPRO ; yea , they have all H3605 one H259 MMS breath H7307 W-GFS ; so that a man H120 D-NMS hath no H369 preeminence H4195 above H4480 PREP a beast H929 D-NFS : for H3588 CONJ all H3605 is vanity H1892 .
20 All H3605 go H1980 VQPMS unto H413 PREP one H259 MMS place H4725 NUM-MS ; all H3605 are H1961 VQQ3MS of H4480 PREP the dust H6083 , and all H3605 turn to dust again H7725 VQQ3MS .
21 Who H4310 IPRO knoweth H3045 VQPMS the spirit H7307 NFS of man H120 D-NMS that H1931 PPRO-3FS goeth H5927 upward H4605 , and the spirit H7307 NFS of the beast H929 D-NFS that H1931 PPRO-3FS goeth H3381 downward H4295 to the earth H776 ?
22 Wherefore I perceive H7200 that H3588 CONJ there is nothing H369 NPAR better H2896 AMS , than that a man H120 D-NMS should rejoice H8055 in his own works H4639 ; for H3588 CONJ that H1931 PPRO-3MS is his portion H2506 : for H3588 CONJ who H4310 IPRO shall bring H935 him to see H7200 L-VQFC what shall be after H310 him ?
