2 Chronicles 30:1 (NIRV) New International Reader's Version

1 Hezekiah sent a message to all of the people of Israel and Judah. He also wrote letters to the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh. He invited everyone to come to the Lord's temple in Jerusalem. He wanted them to celebrate the Passover Feast in honor of the Lord. He is the God of Israel.
2 The king, his officials and the whole community in Jerusalem decided to celebrate the Passover in the second month.
3 They hadn't been able to celebrate it at the regular time. That's because there weren't enough priests who had set themselves apart to the Lord. Also, the people hadn't gathered together in Jerusalem.
4 The plan seemed good to the king and the whole community.
5 They decided to send a message all through Israel. It was sent out from Beersheba all the way to Dan. The message invited the people to come to Jerusalem. It invited them to celebrate the Passover in honor of the Lord, the God of Israel. The Passover hadn't been celebrated by large numbers of people for a long time. It hadn't been done in keeping with what was written in the law.
6 Messengers went all through Israel and Judah. They carried letters from the king and his officials. The king had ordered them to do that. The letters said, "People of Israel, return to the Lord. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel. Return to him. Then he will return to you who are left in the land. You have escaped from the power of the kings of Assyria.
7 "Don't be like the rest of your people and relatives. They weren't faithful to the Lord, the God of their people. That's why he punished them. He made them look so bad that everyone was shocked when they saw them. You can see it for yourselves.
8 "Don't be stubborn. Don't be as your people were. Obey the Lord. Come to the temple. He has set it apart to himself forever. Serve the Lord your God. Then he'll turn his burning anger away from you.
9 "Suppose you return to the Lord. Then those who captured your relatives and children will be kind to them. In fact, your relatives and children will come back to this land. The Lord your God is kind and tender. He won't turn away from you if you return to him."
10 The messengers went from town to town in Ephraim and Manasseh. They went all the way to Zebulun. But the people made fun of them. They laughed at them.
11 In spite of that, some men from Asher, Manasseh and Zebulun made themselves low in the Lord's sight. They went to Jerusalem.
12 God's powerful hand helped the people of Judah. He helped them agree with one another. So they did what the king and his officials had ordered. They did what the Lord told them to do.
13 A very large crowd of people gathered together in Jerusalem. They went there to celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread. It took place in the second month.
14 They removed the altars in Jerusalem. They cleared away the altars for burning incense. They threw all of the altars into the Kidron Valley.
15 They killed the Passover lamb on the 14th day of the second month. The priests and Levites were filled with shame. They set themselves apart to the Lord. They brought burnt offerings to his temple.
16 Then they went to their regular positions. They did it just as the Law of Moses, the man of God, required. The Levites gave the blood of the animals to the priests. The priests sprinkled it on the altar.
17 Many people in the crowd hadn't set themselves apart to the Lord. They weren't "clean." They couldn't set their lambs apart to him. So the Levites had to kill the Passover lambs for all of them.
18 Many people came from Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar and Zebulun. Most of them hadn't made themselves pure and clean. But they still ate the Passover meal. That was against what was written in the law. But Hezekiah prayed for them. He said, "The Lord is good. May he forgive everyone
19 who wants to worship God with all his heart. God is the Lord, the God of their people. May God forgive them even if they aren't 'clean' in keeping with the rules of the temple."
20 The Lord answered Hezekiah's prayer. He healed the people.
21 The people of Israel who were in Jerusalem celebrated the Feast of Unleavened Bread. They celebrated for seven days with great joy. The Levites and priests sang to the Lord every day. Their singing was accompanied by musical instruments. The instruments were used to praise the Lord.
22 Hezekiah spoke words that gave hope to all of the Levites. They understood how to serve the Lord well. For the seven days of the Feast they ate the share that was given to them. They also sacrificed friendship offerings. They praised the Lord, the God of their people.
23 Then the whole community agreed to celebrate the Feast for seven more days. So for another seven days they celebrated with joy.
24 Hezekiah, the king of Judah, provided 1,000 bulls and 7,000 sheep and goats for the community. The officials provided 1,000 bulls and 10,000 sheep and goats for them. A large number of priests set themselves apart to the Lord.
25 The entire community of Judah was filled with joy. So were the priests and Levites. And so were all of the people who had gathered together from Israel. That included the outsiders who had come from Israel. It also included those who lived in Judah.
26 There was great joy in Jerusalem. There hadn't been anything like it in Israel since the days of Solomon, the son of David. Solomon had been king of Israel.
27 The priests and Levites gave their blessing to the people. God heard them. Their prayer reached all the way to heaven. It's the holy place where he lives.
1 And Hezekiah H3169 sent H7971 W-VQY3MS to H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 and Judah H3063 , and wrote H3789 CMS letters H107 also H1571 to H5921 PREP Ephraim H669 and Manasseh H4519 , that they should come H935 L-VQFC to the house H1004 of the LORD H3068 EDS at Jerusalem H3389 , to keep H6213 L-VQFC the passover H6453 unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 LMS .
2 For the king H4428 D-NMS had taken counsel H3289 , and his princes H8269 , and all H3605 W-CMS the congregation H6951 in Jerusalem H3389 , to keep H6213 L-VQFC the passover H6453 in the second H8145 month H2320 BD-NMS .
3 For H3588 CONJ they could H3201 not H3808 NADV keep H6213 it at that H1931 time H6256 , because H3588 CONJ the priests H3548 had not H3808 ADV sanctified themselves H6942 sufficiently H4078 , neither H3808 NADV had the people H5971 gathered themselves together H622 to Jerusalem H3389 .
4 And the thing H1697 D-NMS pleased H3474 the king H4428 D-NMS and all H3605 NMS the congregation H6951 .
5 So they established H5975 a decree H1697 NMS to make proclamation H5674 throughout all H3605 B-CMS Israel H3478 , from Beer H884 - sheba even to H5704 W-PREP Dan H1835 , that they should come H935 L-VQFC to keep H6213 L-VQFC the passover H6453 unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS God H430 of Israel H3478 at Jerusalem H3389 : for H3588 CONJ they had not H3808 NADV done H6213 VQQ3MP it of a long H7230 LD-NMS time in such sort as it was written H3789 .
6 So the posts H7323 went H1980 W-VQY3MP with the letters H107 from M-GFS the king H4428 D-NMS and his princes H8269 throughout all H3605 B-CMS Israel H3478 and Judah H3063 , and according to the commandment H4687 of the king H4428 D-NMS , saying H559 L-VQFC , Ye children H1121 of Israel H3478 , turn again H7725 unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Abraham H85 , Isaac H3327 , and Israel H3478 , and he will return H7725 to H413 PREP the remnant H7604 of you , that are escaped H6413 out of the hand H3709 M-CFS of the kings H4428 CMP of Assyria H804 .
7 And be H1961 not H408 W-NPAR ye like your fathers H1 , and like your brethren H251 , which H834 RPRO trespassed H4603 against the LORD H3068 God H430 CDP of their fathers H1 , who therefore gave them up H5414 to desolation H8047 , as H834 RPRO ye H859 PPRO-2MS see H7200 VQPMP .
8 Now H6258 ADV be ye not stiffnecked H7185 , as your fathers H1 were , but yield H5414 yourselves unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS , and enter H935 W-VQI2MP into his sanctuary H4720 , which H834 RPRO he hath sanctified H6942 forever H5769 L-NMS : and serve H5647 the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 , that the fierceness H2740 CMS of his wrath H639 CMS-3MS may turn away H7725 from H4480 M-PPRO-2MS you .
9 For H3588 CONJ if ye turn again H7725 unto H5921 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS , your brethren H251 and your children H1121 shall find compassion H7356 before H6440 L-CMP them that lead them captive H7617 , so that they shall come again H7725 into this H2063 D-DFS land H776 LD-NFS : for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 is gracious H2587 AMS and merciful H7349 W-AMS , and will not H3808 W-NPAR turn away H5493 his face H6440 L-CMP from H4480 M-PPRO-2MS you , if H518 PART ye return H7725 VQY2MP unto H413 him .
10 So the posts H7323 passed H1961 W-VQY3MP from city H5892 M-NFS to city H5892 L-NMS through the country H776 B-GFS of Ephraim H669 and Manasseh H4519 even unto H5704 W-PREP Zebulun H2074 : but they laughed them to scorn H1961 W-VQY3MP , and mocked H3932 them .
11 Nevertheless H389 ADV divers H376 of Asher H836 and Manasseh H4519 and of Zebulun H2074 humbled themselves H3665 , and came H935 W-VQY3MP to Jerusalem H3389 .
12 Also H1571 CONJ in Judah H3063 the hand H3027 CFS of God H430 D-EDP was H1961 VQP3FS to give H5414 L-VQFC them one H259 MMS heart H3820 NMS to do H6213 L-VQFC the commandment H4687 CFS of the king H4428 D-NMS and of the princes H8269 , by the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
13 And there assembled H622 at Jerusalem H3389 much H7227 AMS people H5971 NMS to keep H6213 L-VQFC the feast H2282 of unleavened bread H4682 in the second H8145 D-ONUM month H2320 BD-NMS , a very H3966 ADV great H7230 LD-NMS congregation H6951 .
14 And they arose H6965 and took away H5493 the altars H4196 that H834 RPRO were in Jerusalem H3389 , and all H3605 NMS the altars for incense H6999 took they away H5493 , and cast H7993 them into the brook H5158 Kidron H6939 .
15 Then they killed H7819 the passover H6453 on the fourteenth H702 day of the second H8145 D-ONUM month H2320 LD-NMS : and the priests H3548 and the Levites H3881 were ashamed H3637 , and sanctified themselves H6942 , and brought in H935 the burnt offerings H5930 CFP into the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
16 And they stood H5975 in H5921 PREP their place H5977 after their manner H4941 , according to the law H8451 of Moses H4872 the man H376 NMS of God H430 D-EDP : the priests H3548 sprinkled H2236 the blood H1818 , which they received of the hand H3027 M-GFS of the Levites H3881 .
17 For H3588 CONJ there were many H7227 in the congregation H6951 that H834 RPRO were not H3808 NADV sanctified H6942 : therefore the Levites H3881 had the charge of H5921 PREP the killing H7821 of the passovers H6453 for every one H3605 that was not H3808 NADV clean H2889 AMS , to sanctify H6942 them unto the LORD H3068 .
18 For H3588 CONJ a multitude H4768 of the people H5971 , even many H7227 of Ephraim H669 , and Manasseh H4519 , Issachar H3485 , and Zebulun H2074 , had not H3808 NADV cleansed themselves H2891 , yet H3588 CONJ did they eat H398 the passover H6453 otherwise H3808 ADV than it was written H3789 . But H3588 CONJ Hezekiah H3169 prayed H6419 for H5921 PREP-3MP them , saying H559 L-VQFC , The good H2896 D-NMS LORD H3068 EDS pardon H3722 every one H1157
19 That prepareth H3559 his heart H3824 to seek H1875 God H430 D-EDP , the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of his fathers H1 , though he be not H3808 W-NPAR cleansed according to the purification H2893 of the sanctuary H6944 .
20 And the LORD H3068 EDS hearkened H8085 to H413 PREP Hezekiah H3169 , and healed H7495 the people H5971 D-NMS .
21 And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 that were present H4672 at Jerusalem H3389 kept H6213 W-VQY3MP the feast H2282 of unleavened bread H4682 seven H7651 RMS days H3117 NUM-MS with great H1419 AFS gladness H8057 B-NFS : and the Levites H3881 and the priests H3548 praised H1984 the LORD H3068 L-EDS day H3117 NMS by day H3117 NUM-MS , singing with loud H5797 NMS instruments H3627 unto the LORD H3068 .
22 And Hezekiah H3169 spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS comfortably H3820 NMS unto all H3605 NMS the Levites H3881 that taught H7919 the good H2896 AMS knowledge H7922 of the LORD H3068 L-EDS : and they did eat H398 W-VQY3MP throughout H854 the feast H4150 seven H7651 RMS days H3117 D-NMP , offering H2076 peace H8002 offerings H2077 , and making confession H3034 to the LORD H3068 L-EDS God H430 CDP of their fathers H1 .
23 And the whole H3605 NMS assembly H6951 took counsel H3289 to keep H6213 L-VQFC other H312 AMP seven H7651 RMS days H3117 NMP : and they kept H6213 other seven H7651 RMS days H3117 NMP with gladness H8057 .
24 For H3588 CONJ Hezekiah H2396 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 did give H7311 to the congregation H6951 a thousand H505 W-BMS bullocks H6499 and seven H7651 W-BMS thousand H505 MMP sheep H6629 NMS ; and the princes H8269 gave H7311 to the congregation H6951 a thousand H505 W-BMS bullocks H6499 and ten H6235 thousand H505 MMP sheep H6629 : and a great number H7230 of priests H3548 sanctified themselves H6942 .
25 And all H3605 NMS the congregation H6951 of Judah H3063 , with the priests H3548 and the Levites H3881 , and all H3605 NMS the congregation H6951 that came H935 out of Israel H3478 , and the strangers H1616 that came H935 out of the land H776 M-NFS of Israel H3478 , and that dwelt H3427 in Judah H3063 , rejoiced H8055 .
26 So there was H1961 W-VQY3FS great H1419 AFS joy H8057 in Jerusalem H3389 : for H3588 CONJ since the time H3117 of Solomon H8010 MMS the son H1121 CMS of David H1732 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 there was not H3808 NADV the like H2063 in Jerusalem H3389 .
27 Then the priests H3548 the Levites H3881 arose H6965 and blessed H1288 the people H5971 : and their voice H6963 was heard H8085 , and their prayer H8605 came H935 W-VQY3FS up to his holy H6944 dwelling place H4583 , even unto heaven H8064 .
