Ezekiel 12:1 (NIRV) New International Reader's Version

1 A message came to me from the Lord. He said,
2 "Son of man, you are living among people who refuse to obey me. They have eyes that can see. But they do not really see. They have ears that can hear. But they do not really hear. They refuse to obey me.
3 "Son of man, pack your belongings as if you were going on a long trip. Leave in the daytime. Let the people see you. Start out from where you are. Go to another place. Perhaps they will understand the meaning of what you are doing. But they will still refuse to obey me.
4 Bring out your belongings packed for a long trip. Do it during the daytime. Let the people see you. Then in the evening, pretend you are being forced to leave home. Let the people see you.
5 "While the people are watching, dig through the mud bricks of your house. Then take your belongings out through the hole in the wall.
6 Put them on your shoulder. Carry them out at sunset. Let the people see you. Cover your face so you can't see the land. All of that will show the people of Israel what is going to happen to them."
7 So I did just as he commanded me. During the day I brought out my things as if I were going on a long trip. In the evening I dug through the wall of my house with my hands. At sunset I took my belongings out. I put them on my shoulders. The people watched what I was doing.
8 In the morning a message came to me from the Lord. He said,
9 "Son of man, didn't the people of Israel ask you, 'What are you doing?' They always refuse to obey me.
10 "Tell them, 'The Lord and King says, "This message is about Zedekiah, the prince in Jerusalem. It is also about all of the people of Israel who still live there." '
11 Tell them, 'The things I've done are a picture of what's going to happen to you. So what I've done will happen to you. You will be forced to leave home. You will be taken to Babylonia as prisoners.'
12 "The prince among them will put his things on his shoulder and leave. He will do it at sunset. Someone will dig a hole in a wall for him to go through. He will cover his face so he can't see the land.
13 I will spread out my net to catch him. He will be caught in my trap. I will bring him to Babylonia. It is the land where the Chaldeans live. But he will not see it. He will die there.
14 I will scatter to the winds all those who are around him. I will scatter his officials and all of his troops. And I will chase them with a sword that is ready to strike them down.
15 "They will know that I am the Lord when I scatter them among the nations. I will send them to other countries.
16 But I will spare a few of them. I will save them from war, hunger and plague. In those countries they will admit they have done all kinds of evil things. I hate those things. They will know that I am the Lord."
17 A message came to me from the Lord. He said,
18 "Son of man, tremble with fear as you eat your food. Tremble as you drink your water.
19 Speak to the people of the land. Say to them, 'Here is what the Lord and King says about those who live in Jerusalem and Israel. He tells them, "They will be worried as they eat their food. They will not have any hope as they drink their water. Their land will be stripped of everything in it because all those who live there are harming one another.
20 The towns where people live will be completely destroyed. The land will become a dry and empty desert. Then you will know that I am the Lord." ' "
21 A message came to me from the Lord. He said,
22 "Son of man, you have a proverb in the land of Israel. It says, 'The days go by, and not even one vision comes true.'
23 Tell them, 'The Lord and King says, "I am going to put an end to that proverb. They will not use that saying in Israel anymore." ' Tell them, 'The days are coming soon when every vision will come true.
24 There will be no more false visions. People will no longer use magic to find out whether good things are going to happen in Israel.
25 I am the Lord. So I will say what I want to. And it will come true when I want it to. In your days I will do everything I say I will. But you people always refuse to obey me,' announces the Lord and King."
26 A message came to me from the Lord. He said,
27 "Son of man, the people of Israel are saying, 'The vision Ezekiel sees won't come true for many years. He is prophesying about a time that is a long way off.'
28 "So tell them, 'The Lord and King says, "Everything I say will come true. It will happen when I want it to," announces the Lord and King.' "

2 Son H1121 of man H120 NMS , thou H859 PPRO-2MS dwellest H3427 VQPMS in the midst H8432 B-NMS of a rebellious H4805 house H1004 CMS , which H834 RPRO have eyes H5869 NMD to see H7200 L-VQFC , and see H7200 VQQ3MP not H3808 W-NPAR ; they have ears H241 to hear H8085 , and hear H8085 not H3808 W-NPAR : for H3588 CONJ they H1992 are a rebellious H4805 CMS house H1004 CMS .
3 Therefore , thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS son H1121 CMS of man H120 NMS , prepare H6213 VQI2MS thee stuff H3627 for removing H1473 , and remove H1540 by day H3119 ADV in their sight H5869 ; and thou shalt remove H1540 from thy place H4725 NUM-MS to H413 PREP another H312 AMS place H4725 NUM-MS in their sight H5869 : it may be H194 ADV they will consider H7200 VQY3MP , though H3588 CONJ they H1992 be a rebellious H4805 CMS house H1004 CMS .
4 Then shalt thou bring forth H3318 thy stuff H3627 by day H3119 ADV in their sight H5869 , as stuff H3627 for removing H1473 : and thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS shalt go forth H3318 at even H6153 in their sight H5869 , as they that go forth H4161 into captivity H1473 .
5 Dig H2864 thou through the wall H7023 in their sight H5869 , and carry out H3318 thereby .
6 In their sight H5869 shalt thou bear H5375 VQY2MS it upon H5921 PREP thy shoulders H3802 , and carry it forth H3318 in the twilight H5939 : thou shalt cover H3680 thy face H6440 CMP-2MS , that thou see H7200 VQY2MS not H3808 W-NPAR the ground H776 D-GFS : for H3588 CONJ I have set H5414 thee for a sign H4159 unto the house H1004 of Israel H3478 LMS .
7 And I did H6213 so H3651 ADV as H834 K-RPRO I was commanded H6680 : I brought forth H3318 my stuff H3627 by day H3119 ADV , as stuff H3627 for captivity H1473 , and in the even H6153 I digged H2864 through the wall H7023 with mine hand H3027 ; I brought it forth H3318 in the twilight H5939 , and I bore H5375 VQQ1MS it upon H5921 PREP my shoulder H3802 in their sight H5869 L-CMD-3MP .
8 And in the morning H1242 B-NMS came H1961 W-VQY3MS the word H1697 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS unto H413 PREP-1MS me , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
9 Son H1121 of man H120 NMS , hath not H3808 I-NADV the house H1004 CMS of Israel H3478 , the rebellious H4805 house H1004 CMS , said H559 VQQ3MP unto H413 PREP-2MS thee , What H4100 IGAT doest H6213 thou H859 PPRO-2MS ?
10 Say H559 thou unto H413 PREP-3MP them , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 ; This H2088 D-PMS burden H4853 concerneth the prince H5387 in Jerusalem H3389 , and all H3605 W-CMS the house H1004 CMS of Israel H3478 that H834 RPRO are among H8432 them .
11 Say H559 , I H589 PPRO-1MS am your sign H4159 : like as H834 K-RPRO I have done H6213 VQQ1MS , so H3651 ADV shall it be done H6213 unto them : they shall remove H1473 and go H1980 into captivity H7628 .
12 And the prince H5387 that H834 RPRO is among H8432 them shall bear H5375 VQY3MS upon H413 PREP his shoulder H3802 in the twilight H5939 , and shall go forth H3318 : they shall dig H2864 through the wall H7023 to carry out H3318 thereby : he shall cover H3680 VPY3MS his face H6440 CMP-3MS , that ADV he H1931 PPRO-3MS see H7200 VQY3MS not H3808 NADV the ground H776 D-GFS with his eyes H5869 .
13 My net H7568 also will I spread H6566 upon H5921 PREP-3MS him , and he shall be taken H8610 in my snare H4686 : and I will bring H935 him to Babylon H894 to the land H776 GFS of the Chaldeans H3778 TMP ; yet shall he not H3808 ADV see H7200 VQY3MS it , though he shall die H4191 there H8033 W-ADV .
14 And I will scatter H2219 toward every H3605 W-CMS wind H7307 NFS all H3605 W-CMS that H834 RPRO are about H5439 him to help H5828 him , and all H3605 L-CMS his bands H102 ; and I will draw out H7324 the sword H2719 after H310 them .
15 And they shall know H3045 that H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 EDS , when I shall scatter H6327 them among the nations H1471 , and disperse H2219 them in the countries H776 .
16 But I will leave H3498 a few H4557 NMS men H376 CMP of H4480 them from the sword H2719 M-NFS , from the famine H7458 , and from the pestilence H1698 ; that H4616 L-CONJ they may declare H5608 all H3605 NMS their abominations H8441 among the heathen H1471 whither H834 RPRO they come H935 VQQ3MP ; and they shall know H3045 that H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
17 Moreover the word H1697 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS came H1961 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP-1MS me , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
18 Son H1121 of man H120 NMS , eat H398 VQY3FS thy bread H3899 with quaking H7494 B-NMS , and drink H8354 thy water H4325 with trembling H7269 and with carefulness H1674 ;
19 And say H559 unto H413 PREP the people H5971 NMS of the land H776 , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 of the inhabitants H3427 of Jerusalem H3389 , and of H413 PREP the land H127 of Israel H3478 ; They shall eat H398 their bread H3899 with carefulness H1674 , and drink H8354 their water H4325 with astonishment H8078 , that H4616 L-CONJ her land H776 may be desolate H3456 from all that is therein H4393 , because of the violence H2555 of all H3605 CMS them that dwell H3427 therein .
20 And the cities H5892 that are inhabited H3427 shall be laid waste H2717 , and the land H776 WD-GFS shall be H1961 desolate H8077 ; and ye shall know H3045 that H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
21 And the word H1697 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS came H1961 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
22 Son H1121 of man H120 NMS , what H4100 IGAT is that H2088 D-PMS proverb H4912 that ye have in H5921 PREP the land H127 of Israel H3478 , saying H559 L-VQFC , The days H3117 D-NMP are prolonged H748 , and every H3605 NMS vision H2377 faileth H6 ?
23 Tell H559 them therefore H3651 L-ADV , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 ; I will make this H2088 D-PMS proverb H4912 to cease H7673 , and they shall no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV use it as a proverb H4911 in Israel H3478 ; but H518 PART say H1696 VPFC unto H413 PREP-3MP them , The days H3117 D-NMP are at hand H7126 , and the effect H1697 W-CMS of every H3605 NMS vision H2377 .
24 For H3588 CONJ there shall be H1961 VQY3MS no H3808 NADV more H5750 ADV any H3605 NMS vain H7723 NMS vision H2377 nor flattering H2509 divination H4738 within H8432 B-NMS the house H1004 CMS of Israel H3478 LMS .
25 For H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 EDS : I will speak H1696 VPY1MS , and the word H1697 VQPMS that H834 RPRO I shall speak H1696 VPY1MS shall come to pass H6213 ; it shall be no H3808 NADV more H5750 ADV prolonged H4900 : for H3588 CONJ in your days H3117 , O rebellious H4805 house H1004 CMS , will I say H1696 VPY1MS the word H1697 VQPMS , and will perform H6213 it , saith H5002 the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 .
26 Again the word H1697 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS came H1961 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP-1MS me , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
27 Son H1121 of man H120 NMS , behold H2009 IJEC , they of the house H1004 of Israel H3478 say H559 , The vision H2377 that H834 RPRO he H1931 PPRO-3MS seeth H2372 is for many H7227 AMP days H3117 L-NMP to come , and he H1931 PPRO-3MS prophesieth H5012 of the times H6256 that are far off H7350 .
28 Therefore H3651 L-ADV say H559 unto H413 PREP-3MP them , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 ; There shall none H3808 NADV of my words H1697 be prolonged H4900 any more H5750 ADV , but the word H1697 VQPMS which H834 RPRO I have spoken H1696 VPY1MS shall be done H6213 , saith H5002 the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 .
