2 Chronicles 9:1 (NIRV) New International Reader's Version

1 The queen of Sheba heard about how famous Solomon was. So she came to Jerusalem to test him with hard questions. She arrived with a very large group of attendants. Her camels were carrying spices, huge amounts of gold, and valuable jewels. She came to Solomon and asked him about everything she wanted to know.
2 He answered all of her questions. There wasn't anything that was too hard for him to explain to her.
3 So the queen of Sheba saw how wise Solomon was. She saw the palace he had built.
4 She saw the food that was on his table. She saw his officials sitting there. She saw the robes of the servants who waited on everyone. She saw the robes the wine tasters were wearing. And she saw the burnt offerings Solomon sacrificed at the Lord's temple. She could hardly believe everything she had seen.
5 She said to the king, "Back in my own country I heard a report about you. I heard about how much you had accomplished. I also heard about how wise you are. Everything I heard is true.
6 But I didn't believe what people were saying. So I came to see for myself. And now I believe it! You are twice as wise as people say you are. The report I heard doesn't even begin to tell the whole story about you.
7 "How happy your men must be! How happy your officials must be! They always get to serve you and hear the wise things you say.
8 "May the Lord your God be praised. He must take great delight in you. He placed you on his throne as king. He put you there to rule for him. Your God loves Israel very much. He longs to take good care of them forever. That's why he has made you king over them. He knows that you will do what is fair and right."
9 She gave the king four and a half tons of gold. She also gave him huge amounts of spices and valuable jewels. There had never been as many spices as the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.
10 The servants of Hiram and those of Solomon brought gold from Ophir. They also brought algumwood and valuable jewels.
11 The king used the algumwood to make steps for the Lord's temple and the royal palace. He also used it to make harps and lyres for those who played the music. No one had ever seen that much algumwood in Judah before.
12 King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba everything she wanted and asked for. In fact, he gave her more than she had brought to him. Then she left. She returned to her own country with her attendants.
13 Each year Solomon received 25 tons of gold.
14 That didn't include the money that was brought in by business and trade. All of the kings of Arabia also brought gold and silver to Solomon. So did the governors of Israel.
15 King Solomon made 200 large shields out of hammered gold. Each one weighed seven and a half pounds.
16 He also made 300 small shields out of hammered gold. Each one weighed almost four pounds. The king put all of the shields in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon.
17 Then he made a large throne. It was decorated with ivory. It was covered with pure gold.
18 The throne had six steps. A gold stool for the king's feet was connected to it. The throne had armrests on both sides of the seat. A statue of a lion stood on each side of the throne.
19 Twelve lions stood on the six steps. There was one at each end of each step. Nothing like that throne had ever been made for any other kingdom.
20 All of King Solomon's cups were made out of gold. All of the articles that were used in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon were made out of pure gold. Nothing was made out of silver. When Solomon was king, silver wasn't considered to be worth very much.
21 He had many ships that carried goods to be traded. The crews of those ships were made up of Hiram's men. Once every three years the ships returned. They brought gold, silver, ivory, apes and baboons.
22 King Solomon was richer than all of the other kings on earth. He was also wiser than they were.
23 All of these kings wanted to meet Solomon in person. They wanted to see for themselves how wise God had made him.
24 Year after year, everyone who came to him brought a gift. They brought articles that were made out of silver and gold. They brought robes, weapons and spices. They also brought horses and mules.
25 Solomon had 4,000 spaces where he kept his horses and chariots. He had 12,000 horses. He kept some of his horses and chariots in the chariot cities. He kept the others with him in Jerusalem.
26 Solomon ruled over all of the kings from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines. He ruled all the way to the border of Egypt.
27 The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones. He made cedar wood as common there as sycamore-fig trees in the western hills.
28 Solomon got horses from Egypt. He also got them from many other countries.
29 The other events of Solomon's rule from beginning to end are written down. They are written in the records of the prophet Nathan. They are written in the prophecy of Ahijah. He was from Shiloh. They are also written in the records of the visions of the prophet Iddo about Jeroboam. Jeroboam was the son of Nebat.
30 Solomon ruled in Jerusalem over the whole nation of Israel for 40 years.
31 Then he joined the members of his family who had already died. His body was buried in the city of his father David. Solomon's son Rehoboam became the next king after him

2 And Solomon H8010 MMS told H5046 her all H3605 NMS her questions H1697 : and there was nothing H3808 ADV hid H5956 from Solomon H8010 which H834 RPRO he told H5046 VHQ3MS her not H3808 NADV .
3 And when the queen H4436 of Sheba H7614 TRIB had seen H7200 W-VQQ3FS the wisdom H2451 of Solomon H8010 MMS , and the house H1004 that H834 RPRO he had built H1129 ,
4 And the meat H3978 of his table H7979 , and the sitting H4186 of his servants H5650 , and the attendance H4612 of his ministers H8334 , and their apparel H4403 ; his cupbearers H4945 also , and their apparel H4403 ; and his ascent H5944 by which H834 RPRO he went up H5927 VQY3MS into the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS ; there was H1961 VQQ3MS no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV spirit H7307 NMS in her .
5 And she said H559 W-VQY3FS to H413 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS , It was a true H571 CFS report H1697 D-NMS which H834 RPRO I heard H8085 VQQ1MS in mine own land H776 of H5921 PREP thine acts H1697 , and of H5921 PREP thy wisdom H2451 :
6 Howbeit I believed H539 not H3808 ADV their words H1697 , until H5704 PREP I came H935 , and mine eyes H5869 CMD-1MS had seen H7200 it : and , behold H2009 IJEC , the one half H2677 of the greatness H4768 of thy wisdom H2451 was not H3808 NADV told H5046 me : for thou exceedest H3254 the fame H8052 that H834 RPRO I heard H8085 .
7 Happy H835 CMP are thy men H376 , and happy H835 are these H428 PMP thy servants H5650 , which stand H5975 continually H8548 before H6440 L-CMP-2MS thee , and hear H8085 thy wisdom H2451 .
8 Blessed H1288 VWQ3MS be H1961 VPY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS , which H834 RPRO delighted H2654 in thee to set H5414 thee on H5921 PREP his throne H3678 , to be king H4428 L-CMS for the LORD H3068 L-EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS : because thy God H430 CMP-2MS loved H160 Israel H3478 , to establish H5975 them forever H5769 L-NMS , therefore made H5414 he thee king H4428 L-CMS over H5921 PREP them , to do H6213 L-VQFC judgment H4941 NMS and justice H6666 .
9 And she gave H5414 W-VQY3FS the king H4428 a hundred H3967 MFS and twenty H6242 W-MMP talents H3603 CFS of gold H2091 NMS , and of spices H1314 great H3966 ADV abundance H7230 LD-NMS , and precious H3368 stones H68 W-GFS : neither H3808 W-NPAR was H1961 VQQ3MS there any such H1931 D-PPRO-3MS spice H1314 as H834 RPRO the queen H4436 of Sheba H7614 TRIB gave H5414 king H4428 Solomon H8010 .
10 And the servants H5650 also H1571 W-CONJ of Huram H2438 , and the servants H5650 of Solomon H8010 MMS , which H834 RPRO brought H935 gold H2091 NMS from Ophir H211 , brought H935 algum H418 trees H6086 CMP and precious H3368 stones H68 W-GFS .
11 And the king H4428 D-NMS made H6213 W-VQY3MS of the algum H418 trees H6086 CMP terraces H4546 to the house H1004 of the LORD H3068 EDS , and to the king H4428 D-NMS \'s palace H1004 , and harps H3658 and psalteries H5035 for singers H7891 : and there were none H3808 W-NPAR such H1992 seen H7200 VNQ3MP before H6440 L-NMP in the land H776 B-GFS of Judah H3063 .
12 And king H4428 Solomon H8010 MMS gave H5414 VQQ3MS to the queen H4436 of Sheba H7614 TRIB all H3605 NMS her desire H2656 , whatsoever H834 RPRO she asked H7592 , beside H905 ML-NMS that which H834 RPRO she had brought H935 unto H413 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS . So she turned H2015 , and went away H1980 W-VQQ3FS to her own land H776 , she H1931 PPRO-3FS and her servants H5650 .
13 Now the weight H4948 of gold H2091 that H834 RPRO came H935 VQPMS to Solomon H8010 in one H259 MFS year H8141 was H1961 W-VQY3MS six H8337 RFS hundred H3967 BFP and threescore H8346 W-MMP and six H8337 talents H3603 of gold H2091 ;
14 Beside H905 that which chapmen H376 and merchants H5503 brought H935 . And all H3605 W-CMS the kings H4428 CMP of Arabia H6152 and governors H6346 of the country H776 D-GFS brought H935 gold H2091 NMS and silver H3701 to Solomon H8010 .
15 And king H4428 D-NMS Solomon H8010 MMS made H6213 W-VQY3MS two hundred H3967 MFD targets H6793 of beaten H7820 gold H2091 NMS : six H8337 RFS hundred H3967 BFP shekels of beaten H7820 gold H2091 NMS went H5927 VQY3MS to H5921 PREP one H259 target H6793 .
16 And three H7969 W-BFS hundred H3967 BFP shields H4043 NMP made he of beaten H7820 gold H2091 NMS : three H7969 BFS hundred H3967 BFP shekels of gold H2091 NMS went H5927 VQY3MS to H5921 PREP one H259 shield H4043 . And the king H4428 D-NMS put H5414 them in the house H1004 B-CMS of the forest H3293 of Lebanon H3844 .
17 Moreover the king H4428 D-NMS made H6213 W-VQY3MS a great H1419 AMS throne H3678 of ivory H8127 , and overlaid H6823 it with pure H2889 gold H2091 NMS .
18 And there were six H8337 W-RFS steps H4609 to the throne H3678 LD-NMS , with a footstool H3534 of gold H2091 , which were fastened H270 to the throne H3678 LD-NMS , and stays H3027 on each side H2088 M-DPRO of H5921 PREP the sitting H7675 place H4725 CMS , and two H8147 lions H738 standing H5975 VQPMP by H681 the stays H3027 :
19 And twelve H8147 lions H738 stood H5975 VQPMP there H8033 ADV on the one side H2088 M-DPRO and on the other H2088 upon H5921 PREP the six H8337 RFS steps H4609 . There was not H3808 NADV the like H3651 ADV made H6213 in any H3605 L-CMS kingdom H4467 .
20 And all H3605 W-CMS the drinking H4945 vessels H3627 of king H4428 D-NMS Solomon H8010 MMS were of gold H2091 NMS , and all H3605 W-CMS the vessels H3627 of the house H1004 of the forest H3293 of Lebanon H3844 were of pure H5462 VWPMS gold H2091 NMS : none H369 NPAR were of silver H3701 NMS ; it was not any thing H3972 accounted H2803 of in the days H3117 B-CMP of Solomon H8010 MMS .
21 For H3588 CONJ the king H4428 \'s ships H591 CFP went H1980 to Tarshish H8659 with H5973 PREP the servants H5650 of Huram H2361 : every three H7969 years H8141 NFP once H259 OFS came H935 the ships H591 CFP of Tarshish H8659 bringing H5375 gold H2091 NMS , and silver H3701 , ivory H8143 , and apes H6971 , and peacocks H8500 .
22 And king H4428 D-NMS Solomon H8010 MMS passed H1431 all H3605 M-CMS the kings H4428 CMP of the earth H776 D-GFS in riches H6239 and wisdom H2451 .
23 And all H3605 W-CMS the kings H4428 CMP of the earth H776 D-GFS sought H1245 the presence H6440 CMP of Solomon H8010 MMS , to hear H8085 his wisdom H2451 , that H834 RPRO God H430 D-EDP had put H5414 VQQ3MS in his heart H3820 .

25 And Solomon H8010 had H1961 W-VQY3MS four H702 thousand H505 MMP stalls H723 for horses H5483 and chariots H4818 , and twelve H8147 thousand H505 W-BMS horsemen H6571 ; whom he bestowed H5117 in the chariot H7393 cities H5892 B-CFP , and with H5973 the king H4428 D-NMS at Jerusalem H3389 .

28 And they brought H3318 unto Solomon H8010 horses H5483 out of Egypt H4714 M-TFS , and out of all H3605 WM-CMS lands H776 .
