Esther 8:1 (NIRV) New International Reader's Version

1 That same day King Xerxes gave Queen Esther everything Haman had owned. Haman had been the enemy of the Jews. Esther had told the king that Mordecai was her cousin. So Mordecai came to see the king.
2 The king took his ring off. It had his royal seal on it. He had taken it back from Haman. Now he gave it to Mordecai. And Esther put Mordecai in charge of everything Haman had owned.
3 Esther made another appeal to the king. She fell at his feet and sobbed. She begged him to put an end to the evil plan of Haman, the Agagite. He had decided to kill the Jews.
4 The king reached out his gold rod toward Esther. She got up and stood in front of him.
5 "King Xerxes, I hope you will show me your favor," she said. "I hope you will think that what I'm asking is the right thing to do. I hope you are pleased with me. If you are, and if it pleases you, let an order be written. Let it take the place of the messages Haman wrote. Haman was the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite. He planned to kill the Jews. He wrote orders to destroy us in all of your territories.
6 I couldn't stand by and see the horrible trouble that would fall on my people! I couldn't stand to see my family destroyed!"
7 King Xerxes gave a reply to Queen Esther and the Jew Mordecai. He said, "Haman attacked the Jews. So I've given Esther everything he owned. My men have stuck a pole through his dead body. And they've set it up where everyone can see it.
8 "Now write another order in my name. Do it for the benefit of the Jews. Do what seems best to you. Stamp the order with my royal seal. Nothing that is written in my name and stamped with my seal can ever be changed."
9 Right away the king sent for the royal secretaries. It was the 23rd day of the third month. That was the month of Sivan. They wrote down all of Mordecai's orders to the Jews. They also wrote them to the royal officials, the governors and the nobles of the 127 territories in his kingdom. The territories reached from India all the way to Cush. The orders were written down in the writing of each territory. They were written in the language of each nation. They were also written to the Jews in their own writing and language.
10 Mordecai wrote the orders in the name of King Xerxes. He stamped them with the king's royal seal. He sent them by messengers on horseback. They rode fast horses that were raised just for the king.
11 The Jews in every city could now gather together and fight for their lives. The king's order gave them that right. But what if soldiers from any nation or territory attacked them? What if they attacked their women and children? Then the Jews could destroy, kill and wipe out those soldiers. They could also take the goods that belonged to their enemies.
12 A day was appointed for the Jews to do that in all of the king's territories. It was the 13th day of the 12th month. That was the month of Adar.
13 A copy of the order was sent out as law in every territory. It was announced to the people of every nation. So the Jews would be ready on that day. They could pay their enemies back.
14 The messengers rode on the royal horses. They raced along. That's what the king commanded them to do. The order was also sent out in the safest place in Susa.
15 Mordecai left the king and went on his way. Mordecai was wearing royal clothes. They were blue and white. He was also wearing a large gold crown. And he was wearing a purple coat. It was made out of fine linen. The city of Susa celebrated with great joy.
16 The Jews were filled with joy and happiness. They were very glad because now they were being honored.
17 They celebrated and enjoyed good food. They were glad and full of joy. That was true everywhere the king's order went out. It was true in every territory and every city. Many people from other nations announced that they had become Jews. That's because they were so afraid of the Jews.

2 And the king H4428 D-NMS took off H5493 W-VHY3MS his ring H2885 , which H834 RPRO he had taken H5674 from Haman H2001 , and gave H5414 it unto Mordecai H4782 . And Esther H635 set H7760 Mordecai H4782 over H5921 PREP the house H1004 CMS of Haman H2001 .

4 Then the king H4428 D-NMS held out H3447 the golden H2091 scepter H8275 toward Esther H635 . So Esther H635 arose H6965 , and stood H5975 before H6440 L-CMP the king H4428 ,

6 For H3588 CONJ how H349 can I endure H3201 to see H7200 the evil H7451 that H834 RPRO shall come unto H4672 VQY3MS my people H5971 ? or how H349 can I endure H3201 to see H7200 the destruction H13 of my kindred H4138 ?
7 Then the king H4428 D-NMS Ahasuerus H325 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto Esther H635 the queen H4436 and to Mordecai H4782 the Jew H3064 , Behold H2009 IJEC , I have given H5414 VQQ1MS Esther H635 the house H1004 CMS of Haman H2001 , and him they have hanged H8518 upon H5921 PREP the gallows H6086 AMS , because H5921 PREP he laid H7971 VQQ3MS his hand H3027 CFS-3MS upon the Jews H3064 .
8 Write H3789 ye H859 W-PPRO-2MP also for H5921 PREP the Jews H3064 , as it liketh H2896 you , in the king H4428 D-NMS \'s name H8034 B-CMS , and seal H2856 it with the king H4428 D-NMS \'s ring H2885 : for H3588 CONJ the writing H3791 which H834 RPRO is written H3789 in the king H4428 D-NMS \'s name H8034 B-CMS , and sealed H2856 with the king H4428 D-NMS \'s ring H2885 , may no H369 NPAR man reverse H7725 .

10 And he wrote H3789 in the king H4428 D-NMS Ahasuerus H325 \' name H8034 B-CMS , and sealed H2856 it with the king H4428 D-NMS \'s ring H2885 , and sent H7971 W-VQY3MS letters H5612 by H3027 B-CFS posts H7323 on horseback H5483 , and riders H7392 on mules H7409 , camels H327 , and young H1121 dromedaries H7424 :
11 Wherein H834 RPRO the king H4428 D-NMS granted H5414 VQQ3MS the Jews H3064 which H834 RPRO were in every H3605 NMS city H5892 GFS to gather themselves together H6950 , and to stand H5975 for H5921 PREP their life H5315 CFS-3MP , to destroy H8045 , to slay H2026 , and to cause to perish H6 , all H3605 NMS the power H2428 of the people H5971 NMS and province H4082 that would assault H6696 them , both little ones H2945 and women H802 , and to take the spoil H7998 of them for a prey H962 ,
12 Upon one H259 MMS day H3117 B-NMS in all H3605 B-CMS the provinces H4082 of king H4428 D-NMS Ahasuerus H325 , namely , upon the thirteenth H7969 day of the twelfth H8147 month H2320 , which H1931 PPRO-3MS is the month H2320 Adar H143 .
13 The copy H6572 of the writing H3791 for a commandment H1881 to be given H5414 in every H3605 B-CMS province H4082 was published H1540 unto all H3605 L-CMS people H5971 , and that the Jews H3064 should be H1961 ready H6264 against that H2088 D-PMS day H3117 to avenge themselves H5358 on their enemies H341 .
14 So the posts H7323 that rode upon H7392 mules H7409 and camels H327 went out H3318 , being hastened H926 and pressed on H1765 by the king H4428 D-NMS \'s commandment H1697 . And the decree H1881 was given H5414 VNQ3FS at Shushan H7800 the palace H1002 .
15 And Mordecai H4782 went out H3318 VQQ3MS from the presence H6440 ML-CMP of the king H4428 D-NMS in royal H4438 CFP apparel H3830 of blue H8504 and white H2353 , and with a great H1419 AMS-3FS crown H5850 of gold H2091 NMS , and with a garment H8509 of fine linen H948 and purple H713 : and the city H5892 of Shushan H7800 rejoiced H6670 and was glad H8055 .

17 And in every H3605 WB-CMS province H4082 , and in every H3605 WB-CMS city H5892 GFS , whithersoever H834 RPRO the king H4428 D-NMS \'s commandment H1697 CMS and his decree H1881 came H5060 , the Jews H3064 had joy H8057 and gladness H8342 , a feast H4960 NMS and a good H2896 AMS day H3117 W-NMS . And many H7227 of the people H5971 of the land H776 D-GFS became Jews H3054 ; for H3588 CONJ the fear H6343 of the Jews H3064 fell H5307 upon H5921 PREP-3MP them .
