Isaiah 34:1 (NIRV) New International Reader's Version

1 Nations, come near and listen to me! Pay attention to what I'm about to say. Let the earth and everything in it listen. Let the world and everything that comes out of it pay attention.
2 The Lord is angry with all of the nations. His anger burns against all of their armies. He will totally destroy them. He will have them killed.
3 Those who are killed won't be buried. Their dead bodies will be thrown on the ground. They will give off a very bad smell. Their blood will cover the mountains.
4 All of the stars in the heavens will vanish. The sky will be rolled up like a scroll. All of the stars in the sky will fall like dried-up leaves from a vine. They will drop like wrinkled figs from a fig tree.
5 The sword of the Lord will finish its deadly work in the sky. Then it will come down to strike Edom. He will totally destroy that nation.
6 His sword will be red with blood. It will be covered with fat. The blood will flow like the blood of lambs and goats being sacrificed. The fat will be like the fat taken from the kidneys of rams. That's because the Lord will offer a sacrifice in the city of Bozrah. He will kill many people in Edom.
7 The people and their leaders will be killed like wild oxen and young bulls. Their land will be wet with their blood. The dust will be covered with their fat.
8 That's because the Lord has set aside a day to pay Edom back. He has set aside a year to pay them back for what they did to the city of Zion.
9 The streams of Edom will be turned into tar. Its dust will be turned into blazing sulfur. Its land will become burning tar.
10 The fire will keep burning night and day. It can't be put out. Its smoke will go up forever. Edom will lie empty for all time to come. No one will ever travel through it again.
11 The desert owl and screech owl will make it their home. The great owl and the raven will build their nests there. God will use his measuring line to show how completely Edom will be destroyed. He will use his plumb line to show how empty Edom will become.
12 Edom's nobles won't have anything left there that can be called a kingdom. All of its princes will vanish.
13 Thorns will cover its forts. Bushes and weeds will cover its safest places. It will become a home for wild dogs. It will become a place where owls live.
14 Desert creatures will meet with hyenas. Wild goats will call out to each other. Night creatures will also sleep there. They will find places where they can rest.
15 Owls will make their nests and lay their eggs there. And they will hatch them. They will take care of their little ones under the shadow of their wings. Male and female falcons will also gather there.
16 Look in the scroll of the Lord. There you will read that none of those animals will be missing. Male and female alike will be there. The Lord himself has commanded it. And his Spirit will gather them together.
17 The Lord will decide what part of the land goes to each animal. Then he will give each one its share. It will belong to them forever. And they will live there for all time to come.

2 For H3588 CONJ the indignation H7110 of the LORD H3068 L-EDS is upon H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS nations H1471 D-NMP , and his fury H2534 upon H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS their armies H6635 : he hath utterly destroyed H2763 them , he hath delivered H5414 them to the slaughter H2874 .
3 Their slain H2491 also shall be cast out H7993 , and their stink H889 shall come up H5927 VQY3MS out of their carcasses H6297 , and the mountains H2022 NMP shall be melted H4549 with their blood H1818 .
4 And all H3605 NMS the host H6635 of heaven H8064 D-NMD shall be dissolved H4743 , and the heavens H8064 D-AMP shall be rolled together H1556 as a scroll H5612 : and all H3605 NMS their host H6635 shall fall down H5034 VQY3MS , as the leaf H5929 falleth off H5034 VQY3MS from the vine H1612 , and as a falling H5034 VQY3MS fig from the fig tree H8384 .
5 For H3588 CONJ my sword H2719 shall be bathed H7301 in heaven H8064 BD-NMP : behold H2009 IJEC , it shall come down H3381 upon H5921 PREP Idumea H123 , and upon H5921 PREP the people H5971 NMS of my curse H2764 , to judgment H4941 .
6 The sword H2719 GFS of the LORD H3068 L-EDS is filled H4390 VQQ3FS with blood H1818 NMS , it is made fat H1878 with fatness H2459 , and with the blood H1818 of lambs H3733 and goats H6260 , with the fat H2459 of the kidneys H3629 of rams H352 NMP : for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 L-EDS hath a sacrifice H2077 NMS in Bozrah H1224 , and a great H1419 AMS slaughter H2874 in the land H776 B-GFS of Idumea H123 .
7 And the unicorns H7214 shall come down H3381 with H5973 PREP-3MP them , and the bullocks H6499 with H5973 PREP the bulls H47 AMP ; and their land H776 shall be soaked H7301 with blood H1818 , and their dust H6083 made fat H1878 with fatness H2459 .
8 For H3588 CONJ it is the day H3117 NMS of the LORD H3068 L-EDS \'s vengeance H5359 , and the year H8141 of recompenses H7966 for the controversy H7379 of Zion H6726 .
9 And the streams H5158 thereof shall be turned H2015 into pitch H2203 , and the dust H6083 thereof into brimstone H1614 , and the land H776 thereof shall become H1961 W-VQQ3FS burning H1197 pitch H2203 .
10 It shall not H3808 NADV be quenched H3518 night H3915 GMS nor day H3119 ; the smoke H6227 thereof shall go up H5927 VQY3MS forever H5769 L-NMS : from generation H1755 to generation H1755 it shall lie waste H2717 ; none H369 NPAR shall pass through H5674 it forever H5331 and ever H5331 .
11 But the cormorant H6893 and the bittern H7090 shall possess H3423 it ; the owl H3244 also and the raven H6158 shall dwell H7931 in it : and he shall stretch out H5186 upon H5921 PREP-3FS it the line H6957 of confusion H8414 , and the stones H68 of emptiness H922 .

13 And thorns H5518 shall come up H5927 in her palaces H759 , nettles H7057 and brambles H2336 in the fortresses H4013 thereof : and it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3FS a habitation H5116 of dragons H8565 , and a court H2681 for owls H1323 L-CFP .
14 The wild beasts of the desert H6728 shall also meet H6298 with H854 PREP the wild beasts of the island H338 , and the satyr H8163 shall cry H7121 VQY3MS to H5921 PREP his fellow H7453 NMS-3MS ; the screech owl H3917 also H389 ADV shall rest H7280 there H8033 ADV , and find H4672 for herself a place of rest H4494 .
15 There H8033 ADV-3FS shall the great owl H7091 make her nest H7077 , and lay H4422 , and hatch H1234 , and gather H1716 under her shadow H6738 : there H8033 ADV shall the vultures H1772 also H389 ADV be gathered H6908 , every one H802 NFS with her mate H7468 .
16 Seek H1875 ye out of the book H5612 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , and read H7121 : no H3808 NADV one H259 OFS of these H2007 shall fail H5737 , none H3808 NADV shall want H6485 her mate H7468 : for H3588 CONJ my mouth H6310 CMS-1MS it H1931 PPRO-3MS hath commanded H6680 VPQ3MS , and his spirit H7307 it H1931 PPRO-3MS hath gathered H6908 them .
17 And he H1931 W-PPRO-3MS hath cast H5307 the lot H1486 for them , and his hand H3027 hath divided H2505 it unto them by line H6957 : they shall possess H3423 it forever H5704 PREP , from generation H1755 to generation H1755 shall they dwell H7931 therein .
