Hosea 9:3 (NIRV) New International Reader's Version

1 Israel, don't be joyful. Don't be glad as the other nations are. You haven't been faithful to your God. You love to get paid for being a prostitute. Your pay is the grain at every threshing floor.
2 But soon there won't be any grain or wine to feed you. There won't even be any fresh wine.
3 You won't remain in the Lord's land. Ephraim, you will return to Egypt. You will eat "unclean" food in Assyria.
4 You won't pour out wine offerings to the Lord. Your sacrifices won't please him. They'll be like the bread people eat when someone dies. Everyone who eats those sacrifices will be "unclean." They themselves will have to eat that kind of food. They can't bring it into the Lord's temple.
5 What will you do when your appointed feasts come? What will you do on the Lord's special days?
6 Some of you will escape without being destroyed. But you will die in Egypt. Your bodies will be buried at Memphis. Weeds will cover your treasures of silver. Thorns will grow up in your tents.
7 The time when God will punish you is coming. The day when he will judge you is near. I want you to know that. You have committed many sins. And you hate me very much. That's why you think I'm foolish. You think I'm crazy. But the Lord speaks through me.
8 People of Ephraim, I'm a true prophet. My God is warning you through me. But you set traps for me everywhere I go. You hate me so much you even wait for me in God's house.
9 You have sunk very deep into sin, just as our people did at Gibeah long ago. God will remember the evil things you have done. He will punish you for your sins.
10 The Lord says, "When I first found Israel, it was like finding grapes in the desert. When I saw your people long ago, it was like seeing the early fruit on a fig tree. But then they went to Baal Peor. There they gave themselves to that shameful god Baal. They became as evil as the god they loved.
11 Ephraim's greatness and glory will be gone. It will fly away like a bird. Women will no longer have children. They will not be able to get pregnant.
12 But suppose they do have children. Then I will kill every one of them. How terrible it will be for them when I turn away from them!"
13 Tyre is planted in a pleasant place. And so is Ephraim. But the Assyrians will kill Ephraim's children.
14 Lord, what should you do to Ephraim's people? Give them women whose babies die before they are born. Give them women whose breasts don't have any milk.
15 The Lord says, "My people did many evil things in Gilgal. That is why I hated them there. They committed many sins. So I will drive them out of my land. I will not love them anymore. All of their leaders refuse to obey me.
16 Ephraim is like a worthless plant. Its roots are dried up. It does not produce any fruit. Suppose Ephraim's people have children. Then I will kill the children they love so much."
17 My God will turn his back on his people. They have not obeyed him. So they will wander among other nations.

3 They shall not H3808 NADV dwell H3427 VQY3MP in the LORD H3068 EDS \'s land H776 B-GFS ; but Ephraim H669 shall return H7725 W-VQQ3MS to Egypt H4714 EFS , and they shall eat H398 unclean H2931 things in Assyria H804 .
4 They shall not H3808 NADV offer H5258 wine H3196 NMS offerings to the LORD H3068 L-EDS , neither H3808 W-NADV shall they be pleasing H6149 unto him : their sacrifices H2077 shall be unto them as the bread H3899 of mourners H205 ; all H3605 NMS that eat H398 thereof shall be polluted H2930 : for H3588 CONJ their bread H3899 for their soul H5315 shall not H3808 NADV come into H935 VQY3MS the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
5 What H4100 IGAT will ye do H6213 in the solemn H4150 NMS day H3117 L-NMS , and in the day H3117 of the feast H2282 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS ?
6 For H3588 CONJ , lo H2009 IJEC , they are gone H1980 because of destruction H7701 M-NMS : Egypt H4714 EFS shall gather them up H6908 , Memphis H4644 shall bury H6912 them : the pleasant H4261 places for their silver H3701 , nettles H7057 shall possess H3423 them : thorns H2336 NMS shall be in their tabernacles H168 .
7 The days H3117 CMP of visitation H6486 are come H935 VQQ3MP , the days H3117 CMP of recompense H7966 are come H935 VQQ3MP ; Israel H3478 shall know H3045 it : the prophet H5030 is a fool H191 AMS , the spiritual H7307 man H376 NMS is mad H7696 , for H5921 PREP the multitude H7230 of thine iniquity H5771 CMS-2MS , and the great H7227 hatred H4895 .
8 The watchman H6822 of Ephraim H669 was with H5973 PREP my God H430 : but the prophet H5030 is a snare H6341 of a fowler H3352 in H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS his ways H1870 CMP-3MS , and hatred H4895 in the house H1004 B-CMS of his God H430 .
9 They have deeply H6009 corrupted H7843 themselves , as in the days H3117 K-CMP of Gibeah H1390 : therefore he will remember H2142 their iniquity H5771 , he will visit H6485 their sins H2403 .

12 Though H518 PART they bring up H1431 their children H1121 , yet will I bereave H7921 them , that there shall not be a man H120 left : yea H3588 CONJ , woe H188 also H1571 CONJ to them when I depart H5493 from H4480 them !
13 Ephraim H669 , as H834 K-RPRO I saw H7200 VQQ1MS Tyrus H6865 , is planted H8362 in a pleasant place H5116 : but Ephraim H669 shall bring forth H3318 his children H1121 to H413 PREP the murderer H2026 VQPMS .
14 Give H5414 them , O LORD H3068 EDS : what H4100 IPRO wilt thou give H5414 VQY2MS ? give H5414 them a miscarrying H7921 womb H7358 NMS and dry H6784 breasts H7699 .
15 All H3605 NMS their wickedness H7451 CFS-3MP is in Gilgal H1537 : for H3588 CONJ there H8033 ADV I hated H8130 them : for H5921 PREP the wickedness H7455 of their doings H4611 I will drive them out H1644 of mine house H1004 , I will love H157 them no H3808 NADV more H3254 : all H3605 NMS their princes H8269 are revolters H5637 .
16 Ephraim H669 is smitten H5221 , their root H8328 is dried up H3001 , they shall bear H6213 no H1077 fruit H6529 NMS : yea H1571 CONJ , though H3588 CONJ they bring forth H3205 , yet will I slay H4191 even the beloved H4261 fruit of their womb H990 .
17 My God H430 will cast them away H3988 , because H3588 CONJ they did not H3808 NADV hearken H8085 VQQ3MP unto him : and they shall be H1961 wanderers H5074 among the nations H1471 .
