1 Peter 5:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 I WARN and counsel the elders among you (the pastors and spiritual guides of the church) as a fellow elder and as an eyewitness called to testify of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a sharer in the glory (the honor and splendor) that is to be revealed (disclosed, unfolded):
2 Tend (nurture, guard, guide, and fold) the flock of God that is your responsibility, not by coercion or constraint, but willingly; not dishonorably motivated by the advantages and profits belonging to the office, but eagerly and cheerfully;
3 Not domineering as arrogant, dictatorial, and overbearing persons over those in your charge, but being examples (patterns and models of Christian living) to the flock (the congregation).
4 And then when the Chief Shepherd is revealed, you will win the conqueror's crown of glory.
5 Likewise, you who are younger and of lesser rank, be subject to the elders (the ministers and spiritual guides of the church)--giving them due respect and yielding to their counsel. Clothe (apron) yourselves, all of you, with humility as the garb of a servant, so that its covering cannot possibly be stripped from you, with freedom from pride and arrogance toward one another. For God sets Himself against the proud (the insolent, the overbearing, the disdainful, the presumptuous, the boastful)--and He opposes, frustrates, and defeats them, but gives grace (favor, blessing) to the humble. Prov. 3:34.
6 Therefore humble yourselves demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you,
7 Casting the whole of your care all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. Ps. 55:22.
8 Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring in fierce hunger, seeking someone to seize upon and devour.
9 Withstand him; be firm in faith against his onset--rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined, knowing that the same (identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world.
10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace Who imparts all blessing and favor, Who has called you to His own eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will Himself complete and make you what you ought to be, establish and ground you securely, and strengthen, and settle you.
11 To Him be the dominion (power, authority, rule) forever and ever. Amen (so be it).
12 By Silvanus, a true (loyal, consistent, incorruptible) brother, as I consider him, I have written briefly to you, to counsel and urge and stimulate you and to declare to you that this is the true account of the grace (the undeserved favor) of God. Be steadfast and persevere in it.
13 She your sister church here in Babylon, who is elect (chosen) with yourselves, sends you greetings, and so does my son (disciple) Mark.
14 Salute one another with a kiss of love the symbol of mutual affection. To all of you that are in Christ Jesus (the Messiah), may there be peace (every kind of peace and blessing, especially peace with God, and freedom from fears, agitating passions, and moral conflicts). Amen (so be it).

2 Feed G4165 V-AAM-2P the G3588 T-ASN flock G4168 N-ASN of G3588 T-ASN God G2316 N-GSM which is among G1722 PREP you G5213 P-2DP , taking the oversight G1983 V-PAP-NPM thereof , not G3361 PRT-N by constraint G317 ADV , but G235 CONJ willingly G1596 ADV ; not G3366 CONJ for filthy lucre G147 ADV , but G235 CONJ of a ready mind G4290 ADV ;
3 Neither G3366 CONJ as G5613 ADV being lords over G2634 V-PAP-NPM God\'s heritage G2819 N-GPM , but G235 CONJ being G1096 V-PNP-NPM examples G5179 N-NPM to the G3588 T-GSN flock G4168 N-GSN .
4 And G2532 CONJ when the G3588 T-GSM chief Shepherd G750 N-GSM shall appear G5319 V-APP-GSM , ye shall receive G2865 V-FDI-2P a crown G4735 N-ASM of G3588 T-ASM glory G1391 N-GSF that fadeth not away G262 A-ASM .
5 Likewise G3668 ADV , ye younger G3501 A-NPM-C , submit yourselves G5293 V-2APM-2P unto the elder G4245 A-DPM . Yea G1161 CONJ , all G3956 A-NPM of you be subject G5293 V-PPP-NPM one to another G240 C-DPM , and G2532 be clothed with G1463 V-ADM-2P humility G5012 N-ASF : for G3588 T-NSM God G2316 N-NSM resisteth G498 V-PMI-3S the proud G5244 A-DPM , and G1161 CONJ giveth G1325 V-PAI-3S grace G5485 N-ASF to the humble G5011 A-DPM .
6 Humble yourselves G5013 V-APM-2P therefore G3767 CONJ under G5259 PREP the G3588 T-ASF mighty G2900 A-ASF hand G5495 N-ASF of God G2316 N-GSM , that G2443 CONJ he may exalt G5312 V-AAS-3S you G5209 P-2AP in G1722 PREP due time G2540 N-DSM :

8 Be sober G3525 V-AAM-2P , be vigilant G1127 V-AAM-2P ; because G3754 your G3588 T-NSM adversary G476 N-NSM the devil G1228 A-NSM , as G5613 ADV a roaring G5612 V-PNP-NSM lion G3023 N-NSM , walketh about G4043 V-PAI-3S , seeking G2212 V-PAP-NSM whom G5101 I-ASM he may devour G2666 V-2AAS-3S :
9 Whom G3739 R-DSM resist G436 V-2AAM-2P steadfast G4731 A-NPF in the G3588 T-DSF faith G4102 N-DSF , knowing G1492 V-RAP-NPM that G3588 T-NPN the G3588 T-NPN same G3588 T-GPN afflictions G3804 N-GPN are accomplished G2005 V-PPN in your G5216 P-2GP brethren G81 N-DSF that are in G1722 PREP the world G2889 N-DSM .
10 But G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM God G2316 N-NSM of all G3956 A-GSF grace G5485 N-GSF , who hath called G2564 V-AAP-NSM us G2248 unto G1519 PREP his G3588 T-ASF eternal G166 A-ASF glory G1391 N-ASF by G1722 PREP Christ G5547 N-DSM Jesus G2424 N-DSM , after that ye have suffered G3958 V-2AAP-APM a while G3641 ADV , make you perfect G2675 V-AAO-3S , establish G4741 V-FAI-3S , strengthen G4599 V-FAI-3S , settle G2311 V-FAI-3S you .

13 The G3588 T-NSF church that G3588 T-NSF is at G1722 PREP Babylon G897 N-DSF , elected together with G4899 A-NSF you , saluteth G782 V-PNI-3S you G5209 P-2AP ; and G2532 CONJ so doth Mark G3138 N-NSM my G3588 T-NSM son G5207 N-NSM .
