Malachi 1:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 THE BURDEN or oracle (the thing to be lifted up) of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi My messenger.
2 I have loved you, says the Lord. Yet you say, How and in what way have You loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? says the Lord; yet I loved Jacob (Israel),
3 But in comparison with the degree of love I have for Jacob I have hated Esau Edom and have laid waste his mountains, and his heritage I have given to the jackals of the wilderness. Rom. 9:13, 16.
4 Though impoverished Edom should say, We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places--thus says the Lord of hosts: They may build, but I will tear and throw down; and men will call them the Wicked Country, the people against whom the Lord has indignation forever.
5 Your own eyes shall see this and you shall say, The Lord is great and will be magnified over and beyond the border of Israel! Isa. 34; 63:1-6; Jer. 49:7-22; Ezek. 25:12-14; Obad. 1.
6 A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a Father, where is My honor? And if I am a Master, where is the reverent fear due Me? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise My name. You say, How and in what way have we despised Your name?
7 By offering polluted food upon My altar. And you ask, How have we polluted it and profaned You? By thinking that the table of the Lord is contemptible and may be despised.
8 When you priests offer blind animals for sacrifice, is it not evil? And when you offer the lame and the sick, is it not evil? Present such a thing a blind or lame or sick animal now to your governor in payment of your taxes, and see what will happen. Will he be pleased with you? Or will he receive you graciously? says the Lord of hosts.
9 Now then, I Malachi beg you priests, entreat God earnestly that He will be gracious to us. With such a gift from your hand as a defective animal for sacrifice, will He accept it or show favor to any of you? says the Lord of hosts.
10 Oh, that there were even one among you whose duty it is to minister to Me who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on My altar to no purpose an empty, futile, fruitless pretense! I have no pleasure in you, says the Lord of hosts, nor will I accept an offering from your hand.
11 For from the rising of the sun to its setting My name shall be great among the nations, and in every place incense shall be offered to My name, and indeed a pure offering; for My name shall be great among the nations, says the Lord of hosts.
12 But you priests profane it when by your actions you say, The table of the Lord is polluted, and the fruit of it, its food, is contemptible and may be despised.
13 You say also, Behold, what a drudgery and weariness this is! And you have sniffed at it, says the Lord of hosts. And you have brought that which was taken by violence, or the lame or the sick; this you bring as an offering! Shall I accept this from your hand? says the Lord. Lev. 1:3; Deut. 15:21.
14 But cursed is the cheating deceiver who has a male in his flock and vows to offer it, yet sacrifices to the sovereign Lord a blemished or diseased thing! For I am a great King, says the Lord of hosts, and My name is terrible and to be reverently feared among the nations.

3 And I hated H8130 Esau H6215 , and laid H7760 his mountains H2022 and his heritage H5159 waste H8077 for the dragons H8568 of the wilderness H4057 .
4 Whereas H3588 CONJ Edom H123 saith H559 VQY2MS , We are impoverished H7567 , but we will return H7725 and build H1129 the desolate places H2723 NFP ; thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , They H1992 PPRO-3MP shall build H1129 , but I H589 W-PPRO-1MS will throw down H2040 ; and they shall call H7121 W-VQQ3MP them , The border H1366 CMS of wickedness H7564 , and , The people H5971 against whom H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS hath indignation H2194 forever H5704 PREP .
5 And your eyes H5869 shall see H7200 , and ye H859 W-PPRO-2MP shall say H559 , The LORD H3068 EDS will be magnified H1431 from M-PREP the border H1366 of Israel H3478 LMS .
6 A son H1121 NMS honoreth H3513 his father H1 NMS , and a servant H5650 W-NMS his master H113 : if H518 W-PART then I H589 PPRO-1MS be a father H1 NMS , where H346 IGAT is mine honor H3519 ? and if H518 W-PART I H589 PPRO-1MS be a master H113 , where H346 IGAT is my fear H4172 ? saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 unto you , O priests H3548 , that despise H959 my name H8034 . And ye say H559 , Wherein H4100 have we despised H959 thy name H8034 ?
7 Ye offer H5066 polluted H1351 bread H3899 NMS upon H5921 PREP mine altar H4196 ; and ye say H559 , Wherein H4100 have we polluted H1351 thee ? In that ye say H559 , The table H7979 of the LORD H3068 EDS is contemptible H959 .
8 And if H3588 ye offer H5066 the blind H5787 for sacrifice H2076 , is it not H369 NPAR evil H7451 AMS ? and if H3588 W-CONJ ye offer H5066 the lame H6455 and sick H2470 , is it not H369 NPAR evil H7451 AMS ? offer H7126 it now H4994 IJEC unto thy governor H6346 ; will he be pleased H7521 with thee , or H176 CONJ accept H5375 thy person H6440 CMP-2MS ? saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 .
9 And now H6258 W-ADV , I pray you H4994 IJEC , beseech H2470 God H410 EDS that he will be gracious H2603 unto us : this H2063 DPRO-3FS hath been H1961 VQQ3FS by your means H3027 : will he regard H5375 your H4480 M-PPRO-2MS persons H6440 CMP ? saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 .
10 Who H4310 IPRO is there even H1571 CONJ among you that would shut H5462 the doors H1817 for naught ? neither H3808 ADV do ye kindle H215 fire on mine altar H4196 for naught H2600 ADV . I have no H369 ADV pleasure H2656 in you , saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , neither H3808 ADV will I accept H7521 an offering H4503 at your hand H3027 .
11 For H3588 CONJ from the rising H4217 of the sun H8121 even unto H5704 W-PREP the going down H3996 of the same my name H8034 shall be great H1419 AMS among the Gentiles H1471 ; and in every H3605 WB-CMS place H4725 NUM-MS incense H6999 shall be offered H5066 unto my name H8034 , and a pure H2889 offering H4503 : for H3588 CONJ my name H8034 shall be great H1419 AMS among the heathen H1471 , saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 .
12 But ye H859 W-PPRO-2MP have profaned H2490 it , in that ye say H559 , The table H7979 of the LORD H136 EDS is polluted H1351 ; and the fruit H5108 thereof , even his meat H400 , is contemptible H959 .
13 Ye said H559 also , Behold H2009 IJEC , what a weariness H4972 is it ! and ye have snuffed at H5301 it , saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 ; and ye brought H935 that which was torn H1497 , and the lame H6455 , and the sick H2470 ; thus ye brought H935 an offering H4503 : should I accept H7521 this of your hand H3027 ? saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
14 But cursed H779 be the deceiver H5230 , which hath H3426 in his flock H5739 a male H2145 NMS , and voweth H5087 , and sacrificeth H2076 unto the Lord H136 a corrupt thing H7843 : for H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS am a great H1419 AMS King H4428 NMS , saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , and my name H8034 is dreadful H3372 VNCMS among the heathen H1471 .
