Judges 12:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 THE MEN of Ephraim were summoned together and they crossed to Zaphon and said to Jephthah, Why did you cross over to fight with the Ammonites and did not summon us to go with you? We will burn your house over you with fire.
2 And Jephthah said to them, I and my people were in a severe conflict with the Ammonites, and I when I called you, you did not rescue me from their hands.
3 And when I saw that you would not rescue me, I put my life in my hands and crossed over against the Ammonites, and the Lord delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me this day to fight against me?
4 Then Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim because they had said, You Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim in the midst of Ephraim and Manasseh.
5 And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan before the Ephraimites; and when any of those Ephraimites who had escaped said, Let me go over, the men of Gilead said to him, Are you an Ephraimite? If he said, No,
6 They said to him, Then say Shibboleth; and he said, Sibboleth, for he could not pronounce it right. Then they seized him and slew him at the fords of the Jordan. And there fell at that time 42,000 of the Ephraimites.
7 Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
8 And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.
9 And he had thirty sons and thirty daughters whom he gave to husbands outside his tribe, and thirty daughters daughters-in-law whom he brought in from outside his tribe for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10 Then Ibzan died and was buried at Bethlehem.
11 After him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel, and he judged Israel ten years.
12 Then Elon the Zebulunite died and was buried at Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.
13 And after him Abdon son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.
14 And he had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on seventy donkey colts; and he judged Israel eight years.
15 Then Abdon son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried at Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.

2 And Jephthah H3316 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MP them , I H589 PPRO-1MS and my people H5971 were H1961 VQQ1MS at great strife H376 NMS with the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 ; and when I called H2199 you , ye delivered H3467 me not H3808 W-NPAR out of their hands H3027 .
3 And when I saw H7200 that H3588 CONJ ye delivered H3467 me not H369 , I put H7760 my life H5315 CFS-1MS in my hands H3709 , and passed over H5674 against H413 PREP the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 , and the LORD H3068 EDS delivered H5414 them into my hand H3027 B-CFS-1MS : wherefore H4100 then are ye come up H5927 unto H413 PREP me this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS , to fight H3898 against me ?
4 Then Jephthah H3316 gathered together H6908 all H3605 NMS the men H376 CMP of Gilead H1568 , and fought H3898 with H854 PREP Ephraim H669 : and the men H376 CMP of Gilead H1568 smote H5221 W-VHY3MP Ephraim H669 , because H3588 CONJ they said H559 VQQ3MP , Ye H859 PPRO-2MS Gileadites H1568 are fugitives H6412 of Ephraim H669 among H8432 B-NMS the Ephraimites H669 , and among H8432 B-NMS the Manassites H4519 .
5 And the Gileadites H1568 took H3920 the passages H4569 of Jordan H3383 D-EFS before the Ephraimites H669 : and it was H1961 W-VQQ3MS so , that when H3588 CONJ those Ephraimites H669 which were escaped H6412 said H559 VQY3MP , Let me go over H5674 ; that the men H376 of Gilead H1568 said H559 W-VQY3MP unto him , Art thou H859 PPRO-2MS an Ephraimite H673 ? If he said H559 , Nay H3808 UNKN ;
6 Then said H559 W-VQY3MS they unto him , Say H559 W-VQY3MS now H4994 IJEC Shibboleth H7641 CFS : and he said H559 W-VQY3MS Sibboleth H5451 : for he could not H3808 W-NPAR frame H3559 VHY3MS to pronounce H1696 it right H3651 ADV . Then they took H270 him , and slew H7819 him at H413 PREP the passages H4569 of Jordan H3383 D-EFS : and there fell H5307 W-VQY3MS at that H1931 time H6256 of the Ephraimites H669 forty H705 MMP and two H8147 thousand H505 MMS .
7 And Jephthah H3316 judged H8199 Israel H3478 six H8337 RFS years H8141 NFP . Then died H4191 W-VQY3MS Jephthah H3316 the Gileadite H1569 , and was buried H6912 in one of the cities H5892 B-CFP of Gilead H1568 .
8 And after H310 him Ibzan H78 of Bethlehem H1035 judged H8199 Israel H3478 .
9 And he had H1961 W-VQY3MS thirty H7970 MMP sons H1121 NMP , and thirty H7970 W-MMP daughters H1323 , whom he sent H7971 VPQ3MS abroad H2351 , and took in H935 VHQ3MS thirty H7970 W-MMP daughters H1323 from H4480 PREP abroad H2351 for his sons H1121 L-CMP-3MS . And he judged H8199 Israel H3478 seven H7651 MFS years H8141 .
10 Then died H4191 W-VQY3MS Ibzan H78 , and was buried H6912 at Bethlehem H1035 .
11 And after H310 him Elon H356 , a Zebulonite H2075 , judged H8199 Israel H3478 ; and he judged H8199 Israel H3478 ten H6235 MFS years H8141 .
12 And Elon H356 the Zebulonite H2075 died H4191 W-VQY3MS , and was buried H6912 in Aijalon H357 in the country H776 B-GFS of Zebulun H2075 .
13 And after H310 PREP-3MS him Abdon H5658 the son H1121 of Hillel H1985 , a Pirathonite H6553 , judged H8199 Israel H3478 .
14 And he had H1961 W-VQY3MS forty H705 MMP sons H1121 NMP and thirty H7970 W-MMP nephews H1121 NMP , that rode H7392 on H5921 PREP threescore and ten H7657 ONUM ass colts H5895 : and he judged H8199 Israel H3478 eight H8083 MFS years H8141 .
15 And Abdon H5658 the son H1121 of Hillel H1985 the Pirathonite H6553 died H4191 W-VQY3MS , and was buried H6912 in Pirathon H6552 in the land H776 B-GFS of Ephraim H669 , in the mount H2022 of the Amalekites H6003 .
