Jeremiah 3:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 THAT IS to say, If a man puts away his wife and she goes from him and becomes another man's, will he return to her again? Of course not! Would not that land where such a thing happened be greatly polluted? But you have played the harlot against Me with many lovers--yet would you now return to Me? says the Lord or do you even think to return to Me?
2 Lift up your eyes to the bare heights and see. Where have you not been adulterously lain with? By the wayside you have sat waiting for lovers eager for idolatry, like an Arabian desert tribesman who waits to plunder in the wilderness; and you have polluted the land with your vile harlotry and your wickedness (unfaithfulness and disobedience to God).
3 Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there has been no spring rain. Yet you have the brow of a prostitute; you refuse to be ashamed.
4 Have you not just now cried to Me: My Father, You were the guide and companion of my youth?
5 Will He retain His anger forever? Will He keep it to the end? Behold, you have so spoken, but you have done all the evil things you could and have had your way and have carried them through.
6 Moreover, the Lord said to me Jeremiah in the days of Josiah the king of Judah, Have you seen what that faithless and backsliding Israel has done--how she went up on every high hill and under every green tree and there played the harlot?
7 And I said, After she has done all these things, she will return to Me; but she did not return, and her faithless and treacherous sister Judah saw it.
8 And I saw, even though Judah knew that for this very cause of committing adultery (idolatry) I the Lord had put faithless Israel away and given her a bill of divorce; yet her faithless and treacherous sister Judah was not afraid, but she also went and played the harlot following after idols.
9 And through the infamy and unseemly frivolity of Israel's whoredom because her immorality mattered little to her, she polluted and defiled the land, by her idolatry committing adultery with idols of stones and trees.
10 But in spite of all this, her faithless and treacherous sister Judah did not return to Me in sincerity and with her whole heart, but only in sheer hypocrisy has she feigned obedience to King Josiah's reforms, says the Lord. II Chron. 34:33; Hos. 7:13, 14.
11 And the Lord said to me, Backsliding and faithless Israel has shown herself less guilty than false and treacherous Judah.
12 Go and proclaim these words toward the north where the ten tribes have been taken as captives and say, Return, faithless Israel, says the Lord, and I will not cause My countenance to fall and look in anger upon you, for I am merciful, says the Lord; I will not keep My anger forever.
13 Only know, understand, and acknowledge your iniquity and guilt--that you have rebelled and transgressed against the Lord your God and have scattered your favors among strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice, says the Lord.
14 Return, O faithless children of the whole twelve tribes, says the Lord, for I am Lord and Master and Husband to you, and I will take you not as a nation, but individually--one from a city and two from a tribal family--and I will bring you to Zion. Luke 15:20-22.
15 And I will give you spiritual shepherds after My own heart in the final time, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding and judgment.
16 And it shall be that when you have multiplied and increased in the land in those days, says the Lord, they shall no more say, The ark of the covenant of the Lord. It shall not come to mind, nor shall they seriously remember it, nor shall they miss or visit it, nor shall it be repaired or made again for instead of the ark, which represented God's presence, He will show Himself to be present throughout the city. Isa. 65:17; Rev. 21:3, 22, 23.
17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem The Throne of the Lord, and all the nations shall be gathered to it, in the renown and name of the Lord, to Jerusalem; nor shall they walk any more after the stubbornness of their own evil hearts.
18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and together they shall come out of the land of the north to the land that I gave as an inheritance to your fathers.
19 And I thought how gloriously and honorably I would set you among My children and give you a pleasant land, a goodly heritage, the most beautiful and best inheritance among all nations! And I thought you would call Me My Father and would not turn away from following Me.
20 Surely, as a wife treacherously and faithlessly departs from her husband, so have you dealt treacherously and faithlessly with Me, O house of Israel, says the Lord.
21 A voice is heard on the bare heights, the weeping and pleading of the sons of Israel, because they have perverted their ways, they have eagerly forgotten the Lord their God.
22 Return, O faithless sons, says the Lord, and I will heal your faithlessness. And they answer Behold, we come to You, for You are the Lord our God.
23 Truly in vain is the hope of salvation from the hills and from the tumult and noisy throng on the mountains; truly in and with the Lord our God rests the salvation of Israel.
24 We have been ruined as a nation by our faithlessness and idolatry for the shameful thing has consumed all for which our fathers toiled from our youth--their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.
25 Let us lie prostrate in our shame, and let our dishonor and confusion cover us; for we have sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers; from our youth even to this day we have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God.

2 Lift up H5375 thine eyes H5869 unto H5921 PREP the high places H8205 , and see H7200 where H375 IGAT thou hast not H3808 NADV been lain H7901 with . In H5921 PREP the ways H1870 hast thou sat H3427 for them , as the Arabian H6163 in the wilderness H4057 ; and thou hast polluted H2610 the land H776 GFS with thy whoredoms H2184 and with thy wickedness H7451 .
3 Therefore the showers H7241 have been withheld H4513 , and there hath been H1961 VQQ3MS no H3808 latter rain H4456 ; and thou hadst a whore H802 NFS \'s forehead H4696 , thou refusedst H3985 to be ashamed H3637 .
4 Wilt thou not H3808 D-NPAR from this time H6258 cry H7121 unto me , My father H1 CMS-1MS , thou H859 PPRO-2MS art the guide H441 of my youth H5271 ?
5 Will he reserve H5201 his anger forever H5769 L-NMS ? will he keep H8104 VQY3MS it to the end H5331 L-NMS ? Behold H2009 IJEC , thou hast spoken H1696 and done H6213 evil things H7451 as thou couldest H3201 .
6 The LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS also unto H413 PREP-1MS me in the days H3117 B-CMP of Josiah H2977 the king H4428 D-NMS , Hast thou seen H7200 that which H834 RPRO backsliding H4878 Israel H3478 hath done H6213 VQQ3MS ? she H1931 PPRO-3FS is gone up H1980 upon H5921 PREP every H3605 NMS high H1364 AMS mountain H2022 CMS and under H8478 NMS every H3605 NMS green H7488 tree H6086 NMS , and there H8033 ADV hath played the harlot H2181 .
7 And I said H559 W-VQY1MS after H310 PREP she had done H6213 all H3605 NMS these H428 PMP things , Turn H7725 VQY2MS thou unto H413 PREP-1MS me . But she returned H7725 not H3808 W-NPAR . And her treacherous H901 sister H269 Judah H3063 saw H7200 it .
8 And I saw H7200 , when H3588 CONJ for H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS the causes H182 whereby H834 RPRO backsliding H4878 Israel H3478 committed adultery H5003 I had put her away H7971 , and given H5414 her a bill H5612 CMS of divorce H3748 ; yet her treacherous H898 sister H269 Judah H3063 feared H3372 not H3808 W-NPAR , but went H1980 W-VQQ3FS and played the harlot H2181 also H1571 CONJ .
9 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS through the lightness H6963 of her whoredom H2184 , that she defiled H2610 the land H776 D-GFS , and committed adultery H5003 with H854 PREP stones H68 and with H854 W-PART stocks H6086 .
10 And yet H1571 W-CONJ for all H3605 B-CMS this H2063 DPRO her treacherous H901 sister H269 Judah H3063 hath not H3808 NADV turned H7725 unto H413 PREP-1MS me with her whole H3605 B-CMS heart H3820 , but H518 PART feignedly H8267 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
11 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me , The backsliding H4878 Israel H3478 hath justified H6663 herself H5315 more than treacherous H898 Judah H3063 .
12 Go H1980 and proclaim H7121 these H428 D-DPRO-3MP words H1697 AMP toward the north H6828 , and say H559 , Return H7725 , thou backsliding H4878 Israel H3478 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS ; and I will not H3808 ADV cause mine anger H6440 NMP-1MS to fall H5307 upon you : for H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS am merciful H2623 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , and I will not H3808 NADV keep H5201 anger forever H5769 .
13 Only H389 ADV acknowledge H3045 thine iniquity H5771 , that H3588 CONJ thou hast transgressed H6586 against the LORD H3068 thy God H430 , and hast scattered H6340 thy ways H1870 to the strangers H2114 under H8478 NMS every H3605 NMS green H7488 tree H6086 NMS , and ye have not H3808 NADV obeyed H8085 my voice H6963 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 .
14 Turn H7725 , O backsliding H7726 children H1121 NMP , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS ; for H3588 CONJ I H595 PPRO-1MS am married H1166 unto you : and I will take H3947 you one H259 MMS of a city H5892 M-NFS , and two H8147 of a family H4940 , and I will bring H935 you to Zion H6726 :
15 And I will give H5414 you pastors H7462 according to mine heart H3820 , which shall feed H7462 you with knowledge H1844 and understanding H7919 .
16 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , when H3588 CONJ ye be multiplied H7235 and increased H6509 in the land H776 B-NFS , in those H1992 days H3117 BD-NMP , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , they shall say H559 VQY3MP no H3808 NADV more H5750 ADV , The ark H727 of the covenant H1285 NFS of the LORD H3068 EDS : neither H3808 W-NADV shall it come H5927 VQY3MS to H5921 PREP mind H3820 NMS : neither H3808 W-NADV shall they remember H2142 it ; neither H3808 W-NADV shall they visit H6485 it ; neither H3808 W-NADV shall that be done H6213 any more H5750 ADV .
17 At that H1931 time H6256 they shall call H7121 Jerusalem H3389 the throne H3678 of the LORD H3068 EDS ; and all H3605 the nations H1471 D-NMP shall be gathered H6960 unto H413 PREP-3FS it , to the name H8034 of the LORD H3068 EDS , to Jerusalem H3389 : neither H3808 W-NPAR shall they walk H1980 any more H5750 ADV after H310 PREP the imagination H8307 of their evil H7451 heart H3820 CMS-3MP .
18 In those H1992 days H3117 BD-NMP the house H1004 CMS of Judah H3063 shall walk H1980 with H5921 PREP the house H1004 CMS of Israel H3478 , and they shall come H935 together H3162 ADV-3MS out of the land H776 M-NFS of the north H6828 NFS to H5921 PREP the land H776 D-GFS that H834 RPRO I have given for an inheritance H5157 unto your fathers H1 .
19 But I H595 W-PPRO-1MS said H559 VQQ1MS , How H349 shall I put H7896 thee among the children H1121 , and give H5414 thee a pleasant H2532 land H776 GFS , a goodly H6643 heritage H5159 of the hosts H6635 of nations H1471 NMP ? and I said H559 W-VQY1MS , Thou shalt call H7121 me , My father H1 CMS-1MS ; and shalt not H3808 NADV turn away H7725 from me .
20 Surely H403 ADV as a wife H802 NFS treacherously departeth H898 from her husband H1167 , so H3651 ADV have ye dealt treacherously H898 with me , O house H1004 CMS of Israel H3478 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
21 A voice H6963 CMS was heard H8085 upon H5921 PREP the high places H8205 , weeping H1065 and supplications H8469 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 : for H3588 CONJ they have perverted H5753 their way H1870 CMS-3MP , and they have forgotten H7911 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS their God H430 .
22 Return H7725 , ye backsliding H7726 children H1121 NMP , and I will heal H7495 your backslidings H4878 . Behold H2009 , we come H857 unto thee ; for H3588 CONJ thou H859 PPRO-2MS art the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS our God H430 .
23 Truly H403 ADV in vain H8267 is salvation hoped for from the hills H1389 , and from the multitude H1995 NMS of mountains H2022 NMP : truly H403 ADV in the LORD H3068 our God H430 is the salvation H8668 of Israel H3478 LMS .
24 For shame H1322 hath devoured H398 the labor H3018 CMS of our fathers H1 from our youth H5271 ; their flocks H6629 and their herds H1241 , their sons H1121 and their daughters H1323 .
25 We lie down H7901 in our shame H1322 , and our confusion H3639 covereth H3680 us : for H3588 CONJ we have sinned H2398 against the LORD H3068 L-EDS our God H430 , we H587 PPRO-1MP and our fathers H1 , from our youth H5271 even unto H5704 W-PREP this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS , and have not H3808 W-NPAR obeyed H8085 VQQ1MP the voice H6963 B-NMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS our God H430 .
