Daniel 8:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 IN THE third year of the reign of King Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, Daniel, after the one that appeared to me at the first.
2 And I saw in the vision and it seemed that I was at Shushan the palace or fortress in Susa, the capital of Persia, which is in the province of Elam, and I saw in the vision and I was by the river of Ulai.
3 And I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, there stood before the river a single ram which had two horns representing two kings of Medo-Persia: Darius the Mede, then Cyrus; and the two horns were high, but one Persia was higher than the other, and the higher one came up last.
4 I looked and saw the ram Medo-Persia pushing and charging westward and northward and southward; no beast could stand before him, neither could anyone rescue from his power, but he did according to his own will and pleasure and magnified himself. Dan. 8:20.
5 As I was considering, behold, a he-goat the king of Greece came from the west across the face of the whole earth without touching the ground, and the goat had a conspicuous and remarkable horn between his eyes symbolizing Alexander the Great. Dan. 8:21.
6 And he came to the ram that had the two horns which I had seen standing on the bank of the river and ran at him in the heat of his power.
7 In my vision I saw him come close to the ram Medo-Persia, and he was moved with anger against him and he Alexander the Great struck the ram and broke his two horns; and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but the goat threw him to the ground and trampled on him. And there was no one who could rescue the ram from his power.
8 And the he-goat Alexander the Great magnified himself exceedingly, and when he was young and strong, the great horn he was suddenly broken; and instead of him there came up four notable horns to whom the kingdom was divided, one toward each of the four winds of the heavens.
9 Out of littleness and small beginnings one of them came forth Antiochus Epiphanes, a horn whose impious presumption and pride grew exceedingly great toward the south and toward the east and toward the ornament the precious, blessed land of Israel. Dan. 8:23.
10 And in my vision this horn grew great, even against the host of heaven God's true people, the saints, and some of the host and of the stars priests it cast down to the ground and trampled on them,
11 Yes, this horn magnified itself, even matching itself against the Prince of the host of heaven; and from Him the continual burnt offering was taken away and the place of God's sanctuary was cast down and profaned.
12 And the host the chosen people was given to the wicked horn together with the continual burnt offering because of the transgression of God's people--their abounding irreverence, ungodliness, and lack of piety. And righteousness and truth were cast down to the ground, and it the wicked horn accomplished this by divine permission and prospered.
13 Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to the one that spoke, For how long is the vision concerning the continual offering, the transgression that makes desolate, and the giving over of both the sanctuary and the host of the people to be trampled underfoot? Luke 21:24.
14 And he said to him and to me, For 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary shall be cleansed and restored.
15 When I, even I, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought to understand it; then behold, there stood before me one Gabriel with the appearance of a man.
16 And I heard a man's voice between the banks of the river Ulai which called and said, Gabriel, make this man Daniel understand the vision. Dan. 9:21; Luke 1:19, 26.
17 So he came near where I stood, and when he came, I was frightened and fell on my face. But he said to me, Understand, O son of man, for the fulfillment of the vision belongs to events that shall occur in the time of the end.
18 Now as he Gabriel was speaking with me, I fell stunned and in deep unconsciousness with my face to the ground; but he touched me and set me upright where I had stood.
19 And he said, Behold, I will make you know what will be in the latter time of the indignation of God upon the ungodly, for it has to do with the time of the end.
20 The ram you saw having two horns, they are the kings of Media and Persia.
21 And the shaggy and rough he-goat is the king of Greece, and the great horn between his eyes is the first king who consolidated the whole realm, Alexander the Great.
22 And as for the horn which was shattered, in whose place four others arose, four kingdoms shall arise out of his nation but not having his Alexander's power.
23 And at the latter end of their kingdom, when the transgressors the apostate Jews have reached the fullness of their wickedness, taxing the limits of God's mercy, a king of fierce countenance and understanding dark trickery and craftiness shall stand up.
24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; and he shall corrupt and destroy astonishingly and shall prosper and do his own pleasure, and he shall corrupt and destroy the mighty men and the holy people (the people of the saints). Dan. 8:9-12; II Thess. 2:3-10; Rev. 13:4-10.
25 And through his policy he shall cause trickery to prosper in his hand; he shall magnify himself in his heart and mind, and in their security he will corrupt and destroy many. He shall also stand up against the Prince of princes, but he shall be broken and that by no human hand. Rev. 19:19, 20.
26 The vision of the evenings and the mornings which has been told you is true. But seal up the vision, for it has to do with and belongs to the now distant future.
27 And I, Daniel, fainted and was sick for several days. Afterward I rose up and did the king's business; and I wondered at the vision, but there was no one who understood it or could make it understood.

2 And I saw H7200 in a vision H2377 ; and it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when I saw H7200 , that I H589 W-PPRO-1MS was at Shushan H7800 in the palace H1002 , which H834 RPRO is in the province H4082 of Elam H5867 ; and I saw H7200 in a vision H2377 , and I H589 W-PPRO-1MS was H1961 VQQ1MS by H5921 PREP the river H180 of Ulai H195 .
3 Then I lifted up H5375 mine eyes H5869 CMD-1MS , and saw H7200 , and , behold H2009 IJEC , there stood H5975 before H6440 L-CMP the river H180 a H259 MMS ram H352 which had two horns H7161 : and the two horns H7161 were high H1364 ; but one H259 was higher H1364 than H4480 PREP the other H8145 D-ONUM , and the higher H1364 came up H5927 last H314 .
4 I saw H7200 VQQ1MS the ram H352 pushing H5055 westward H3220 , and northward H6828 , and southward H5045 W-NMS-3FS ; so that no H3808 ADV beasts H2416 might stand H5975 before H6440 L-CMP-3MS him , neither H369 W-NPAR was there any that could deliver H5337 out of his hand H3027 M-CFS-3MS ; but he did H6213 W-VQQ3MS according to his will H7522 , and became great H1431 .
5 And as I H589 W-PPRO-1MS was H1961 VQQ1MS considering H995 , behold H2009 IJEC , a he goat H6842 came H935 VQPMS from H4480 PREP the west H4628 on H5921 PREP the face H6440 CMP of the whole H3605 CMS earth H776 D-GFS , and touched H5060 not H369 W-NPAR the ground H776 B-NFS : and the goat H6842 had a notable H2380 horn H7161 between H996 PREP his eyes H5869 .
6 And he came H935 W-VQY3MS to H5704 PREP the ram H352 that had H1167 CMS two horns H7161 , which H834 RPRO I had seen H7200 VQQ1MS standing H5975 before H6440 L-CMP the river H180 , and ran H7323 unto H413 PREP-3MS him in the fury H2534 of his power H3581 .
7 And I saw H7200 him come close H5060 unto H681 the ram H352 , and he was moved with anger H4843 against H413 PREP-3MS him , and smote H5221 W-VHY3MS the ram H352 , and broke H7665 his two H8147 ONUM horns H7161 : and there was H1961 VQQ3MS no H3808 W-NPAR power H3581 NMS in the ram H352 to stand H5975 before H6440 L-CMP-3MS him , but he cast him down H7993 to the ground H776 NFS-3FS , and stamped upon H7429 him : and there was H1961 VQQ3MS none H3808 W-NPAR that could deliver H5337 the ram H352 out of his hand H3027 .
8 Therefore the he goat H6842 waxed very great H1431 : and when he was strong H6105 , the great H1419 D-AFS horn H7161 was broken H7665 ; and for H8478 CMP-3FS it came up H5927 four H702 L-NUM notable ones H2380 toward the four H702 L-NUM winds H7307 CFP of heaven H8064 D-AMD .
9 And out of H4480 W-PREP one H259 of H4480 W-PREP them came forth H3318 VQQ3MS a H259 OFS little H4704 horn H7161 , which waxed exceeding great H1431 , toward H413 PREP the south H5045 D-NMS , and toward H413 PREP the east H4217 , and toward H413 PREP the pleasant H6643 land .
10 And it waxed great H1431 , even to H5704 PREP the host H6635 of heaven H8064 D-AMP ; and it cast down H5307 some of H4480 PREP the host H6635 and of H4480 PREP the stars H3556 to the ground H776 NFS-3FS , and stamped upon H7429 them .
11 Yea , he magnified H1431 himself even to H5704 W-PREP the prince H8269 of the host H6635 , and by H4480 him the daily H8548 sacrifice was taken away H7311 , and the place H4349 of his sanctuary H4720 was cast down H7993 .
12 And a host H6635 W-NMS was given H5414 him against H5921 PREP the daily H8548 sacrifice by reason of transgression H6588 , and it cast down H7993 the truth H571 CFS to the ground H776 NFS-3FS ; and it practiced H6213 , and prospered H6743 .
13 Then I heard H8085 one H259 saint H6918 speaking H1696 VPPMS , and another H259 MMS saint H6918 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto that certain H6422 saint which spoke H1696 , How long H5704 PREP shall be the vision H2377 concerning the daily H8548 sacrifice , and the transgression H6588 of desolation H8074 , to give H5414 VQFC both the sanctuary H6944 and the host H6635 W-NMS to be trodden under foot H4823 ?
14 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me , Unto H5704 PREP two thousand H505 and three H7969 W-BFS hundred H3967 BFP days H6153 NUM-MS ; then shall the sanctuary H6944 be cleansed H6663 .
15 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when I , even I H589 PPRO-1MS Daniel H1840 , had seen H7200 the vision H2377 , and sought H1245 for the meaning H998 , then , behold H2009 IJEC , there stood H5975 before H5048 me as the appearance H4758 of a man H1397 NMS .
16 And I heard H8085 a man H120 NMS \'s voice H6963 CMS between H996 PREP the banks of Ulai H195 , which called H7121 W-VQY3MS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Gabriel H1403 , make this H1975 man to understand H995 the vision H4758 .
17 So he came H935 W-VQY3MS near H681 where I stood H5977 : and when he came H935 , I was afraid H1204 , and fell H5307 upon H5921 PREP my face H6440 : but he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me , Understand H995 , O son H1121 of man H120 NMS : for H3588 CONJ at the time H6256 L-CMS of the end H7093 RMS shall be the vision H4758 .
18 Now as he was speaking H1696 with H5973 me , I was in a deep sleep H7290 on H5921 PREP my face H6440 NMP-1MS toward the ground H776 NFS-3FS : but he touched H5060 W-VQY3MS me , and set H5975 me upright H5977 .
19 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Behold H2009 , I will make thee know H3045 what H834 RPRO shall be H1961 VQY3MS in the last end H319 of the indignation H2195 : for H3588 CONJ at the time appointed H4150 the end H7093 shall be .
20 The ram H352 which H834 RPRO thou sawest H7200 VQQ2MS having H1167 CMS two horns H7161 are the kings H4428 CMP of Media H4074 and Persia H6539 .
21 And the rough H8163 goat H6842 is the king H4428 NMS of Greece H3120 EMS : and the great H1419 D-AFS horn H7161 that H834 RPRO is between H996 PREP his eyes H5869 CMD-3MS is the first H7223 king H4428 NMS .
22 Now that being broken H7665 , whereas four H702 MFS stood up H5975 for H8478 CMP-3FS it , four H702 MFS kingdoms H4438 shall stand up H5975 out of the nation H1471 , but not H3808 W-NPAR in his power H3581 .
23 And in the latter time H319 of their kingdom H4438 , when the transgressors H6586 are come to the full H8552 , a king H4428 NMS of fierce H5794 countenance H6440 NMP , and understanding H995 dark sentences H2420 , shall stand up H5975 VQY3MS .
24 And his power H3581 CMS-3MS shall be mighty H6105 , but not H3808 W-NPAR by his own power H3581 : and he shall destroy H7843 wonderfully H6381 W-VNPFP , and shall prosper H6743 , and practice H6213 W-VQQ3MS , and shall destroy H7843 the mighty H6099 and the holy H6918 people H5971 .
25 And through H5921 W-PREP his policy H7922 also he shall cause craft H4820 NFS to prosper H6743 in his hand H3027 B-CFS-3MS ; and he shall magnify H1431 himself in his heart H3824 , and by peace H7962 shall destroy H7843 many H7227 AMP : he shall also stand up H5975 VQY3MS against H5921 W-PREP the Prince H8269 of princes H8269 NMP ; but he shall be broken H7665 without H657 hand H3027 NFS .
26 And the vision H4758 of the evening H6153 and the morning H1242 which H834 RPRO was told H559 is true H571 CFS : wherefore shut thou up H859 W-PPRO-2MS the vision H2377 ; for H3588 CONJ it shall be for many H7227 AMP days H3117 L-NMP .
27 And I H589 W-PPRO-1MS Daniel H1840 fainted H1961 , and was sick H2470 certain days H3117 NMP ; afterward I rose up H6965 , and did H6213 the king H4428 D-NMS \'s business H4399 ; and I was astonished H8074 at H5921 PREP the vision H4758 , but none H369 W-NPAR understood H995 it .
