Psalms 18:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of the Lord, who spoke the words of this song to the Lord on the day when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said: I LOVE You fervently and devotedly, O Lord, my Strength.
2 The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress, and my Deliverer; my God, my keen and firm Strength in Whom I will trust and take refuge, my Shield, and the Horn of my salvation, my High Tower. Heb. 2:13.
3 I will call upon the Lord, Who is to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies. Rev. 5:12.
4 The cords or bands of death surrounded me, and the streams of ungodliness and the torrents of ruin terrified me.
5 The cords of Sheol (the place of the dead) surrounded me; the snares of death confronted and came upon me.
6 In my distress when seemingly closed in I called upon the Lord and cried to my God; He heard my voice out of His temple (heavenly dwelling place), and my cry came before Him, into His very ears.
7 Then the earth quaked and rocked, the foundations also of the mountains trembled; they moved and were shaken because He was indignant and angry.
8 There went up smoke from His nostrils; and lightning out of His mouth devoured; coals were kindled by it.
9 He bowed the heavens also and came down; and thick darkness was under His feet.
10 And He rode upon a cherub a storm and flew swiftly; yes, He sped on with the wings of the wind.
11 He made darkness His secret hiding place; as His pavilion (His canopy) round about Him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.
12 Out of the brightness before Him there broke forth through His thick clouds hailstones and coals of fire.
13 The Lord also thundered from the heavens, and the Most High uttered His voice, amid hailstones and coals of fire.
14 And He sent out His arrows and scattered them; and He flashed forth lightnings and put them to rout.
15 Then the beds of the sea appeared and the foundations of the world were laid bare at Your rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.
16 He reached from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters.
17 He delivered me from my strong enemy and from those who hated and abhorred me, for they were too strong for me.
18 They confronted and came upon me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord was my stay and support.
19 He brought me forth also into a large place; He was delivering me because He was pleased with me and delighted in me.
20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness (my conscious integrity and sincerity with Him); according to the cleanness of my hands has He recompensed me.
21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord and have not wickedly departed from my God.
22 For all His ordinances were before me, and I put not away His statutes from me.
23 I was upright before Him and blameless with Him, ever on guard to keep myself free from my sin and guilt.
24 Therefore has the Lord recompensed me according to my righteousness (my uprightness and right standing with Him), according to the cleanness of my hands in His sight.
25 With the kind and merciful You will show Yourself kind and merciful, with an upright man You will show Yourself upright,
26 With the pure You will show Yourself pure, and with the perverse You will show Yourself contrary.
27 For You deliver an afflicted and humble people but will bring down those with haughty looks.
28 For You cause my lamp to be lighted and to shine; the Lord my God illumines my darkness.
29 For by You I can run through a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall.
30 As for God, His way is perfect! The word of the Lord is tested and tried; He is a shield to all those who take refuge and put their trust in Him.
31 For who is God except the Lord? Or who is the Rock save our God,
32 The God who girds me with strength and makes my way perfect?
33 He makes my feet like hinds' feet able to stand firmly or make progress on the dangerous heights of testing and trouble; He sets me securely upon my high places.
34 He teaches my hands to war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
35 You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, and Your right hand has held me up; Your gentleness and condescension have made me great.
36 You have given plenty of room for my steps under me, that my feet would not slip.
37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; neither did I turn again till they were consumed.
38 I smote them so that they were not able to rise; they fell wounded under my feet.
39 For You have girded me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me and caused to bow down those who rose up against me.
40 You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me, that I might cut off those who hate me.
41 They cried for help, but there was none to deliver--even unto the Lord, but He answered them not.
42 Then I beat them small as the dust before the wind; I emptied them out as the dirt and mire of the streets.
43 You have delivered me from the strivings of the people; You made me the head of the nations; a people I had not known served me.
44 As soon as they heard of me, they obeyed me; foreigners submitted themselves cringingly and yielded feigned obedience to me.
45 Foreigners lost heart and came trembling out of their caves or strongholds.
46 The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted,
47 The God Who avenges me and subdues peoples under me,
48 Who delivers me from my enemies; yes, You lift me up above those who rise up against me; You deliver me from the man of violence.
49 Therefore will I give thanks and extol You, O Lord, among the nations, and sing praises to Your name. Rom. 15:9.
50 Great deliverances and triumphs gives He to His king; and He shows mercy and steadfast love to His anointed, to David and his offspring forever. II Sam. 22:2-51.

2 The LORD H3068 EDS is my rock H5553 , and my fortress H4686 , and my deliverer H6403 ; my God H410 , my strength H6697 , in whom I will trust H2620 ; my buckler H4043 , and the horn H7161 of my salvation H3468 , and my high tower H4869 .
3 I will call H7121 upon the LORD H3068 EDS , who is worthy to be praised H1984 : so shall I be saved H3467 from H4480 W-PREP mine enemies H341 .
4 The sorrows H2256 of death H4194 NMS compassed H661 VQQ3MP-1MS me , and the floods H5158 of ungodly men H1100 made me afraid H1204 .
5 The sorrows H2256 of hell H7585 NMS compassed me about H5437 : the snares H4170 of death H4194 NMS prevented H6923 VPQ3MP-1MS me .
6 In my distress H6862 I called upon H7121 the LORD H3068 EDS , and cried H7768 unto H413 W-PREP my God H430 : he heard H8085 VQY3MS my voice H6963 NMS-1MS out of his temple H1964 , and my cry H7775 came H935 VQY2MS before H6440 L-CMP-3MS him , even into his ears H241 .
7 Then the earth H776 D-GFS shook H1607 and trembled H7493 ; the foundations H4146 also of the hills H2022 NMP moved H7264 and were shaken H1607 , because H3588 CONJ he was wroth H2734 VQQ3MS .
8 There went up H5927 a smoke H6227 NMS out of his nostrils H639 B-CMS-3MS , and fire H784 W-NMS out of his mouth H6310 M-CMS-3MS devoured H398 VQY3FS : coals H1513 NMP were kindled H1197 by H4480 M-PREP-3MS it .

14 Yea , he sent out H7971 W-VQY3MS his arrows H2671 , and scattered H6327 them ; and he shot out H7232 lightnings H1300 , and discomfited H2000 them .
15 Then the channels H650 CMP of waters H4325 OMD were seen H7200 , and the foundations H4146 of the world H8398 NFS were discovered H1540 at thy rebuke H1606 , O LORD H3068 EDS , at the blast H5397 M-CFS of the breath H7307 NFS of thy nostrils H639 .
16 He sent H7971 VQY3MS from above H4791 , he took H3947 me , he drew H4871 me out of many waters H4325 .
17 He delivered H5337 me from my strong H5794 enemy H341 , and from them which hated H8130 me : for H3588 CONJ they were too strong H553 for H4480 PREP-1MS me .
18 They prevented H6923 me in the day H3117 of my calamity H343 : but the LORD H3068 EDS was H1961 W-VPY3MS my stay H4937 .
19 He brought me forth H3318 also into a large place H4800 ; he delivered H2502 me , because H3588 CONJ he delighted H2654 in me .
20 The LORD H3068 EDS rewarded H1580 me according to my righteousness H6664 ; according to the cleanness H1252 of my hands H3027 hath he recompensed H7725 VHY3MS me .
21 For H3588 CONJ I have kept H8104 VQQ1MS the ways H1870 CMD-1MS of the LORD H3068 EDS , and have not H3808 W-NPAR wickedly departed H7561 VQQ1MS from my God H430 .
22 For H3588 CONJ all H3605 CMS his judgments H4941 were before H5048 me , and I did not H3808 NADV put away H5493 VHY1MS his statutes H2708 from H4480 PREP-1MS me .
23 I was H1961 W-VQY1MS also upright H8549 before H5973 PREP-3MS him , and I kept myself H8104 from mine iniquity H5771 .
24 Therefore hath the LORD H3068 EDS recompensed H7725 me according to my righteousness H6664 , according to the cleanness H1252 of my hands H3027 in H5048 L-PREP his eyesight H5869 .
25 With H5973 PREP the merciful H2623 thou wilt show thyself merciful H2616 ; with H5973 PREP an upright H8549 AMS man H1399 thou wilt show thyself upright H8552 ;
26 With H5973 PREP the pure H1305 thou wilt show thyself pure H1305 ; and with H5973 the froward H6141 thou wilt show thyself froward H6617 .
27 For H3588 CONJ thou wilt H859 PPRO-2MS save H3467 the afflicted H6041 AMS people H5971 NMS ; but wilt bring down H8213 high H7311 looks H5869 .
28 For H3588 CONJ thou H859 PPRO-2MS wilt light H215 my candle H5216 : the LORD H3068 EDS my God H430 will enlighten H5050 my darkness H2822 .
29 For H3588 CONJ by thee I have run through H7323 a troop H1416 ; and by my God H430 have I leaped over H1801 a wall H7791 .
30 As for God H410 , his way H1870 CMS-3MS is perfect H8549 AMS : the word H565 of the LORD H3068 EDS is tried H6884 : he H1931 PPRO-3MS is a buckler H4043 NMS to all H3605 those that trust H2620 in him .
31 For H3588 CONJ who H4310 W-IPRO is God H433 NAME-4MS save H1107 the LORD H3068 EDS ? or who H4310 W-IPRO is a rock H6697 NMS save H2108 our God H430 ?
32 It is God H410 that girdeth H247 me with strength H2428 , and maketh H5414 W-VQQ3MS my way H1870 perfect H8549 AMS .
33 He maketh H7737 my feet H7272 CFD-3MS like hinds H355 \' feet , and setteth H5975 me upon H5921 W-PREP my high places H1116 .
34 He teacheth H3925 my hands H3027 to war H4421 , so that a bow H7198 of steel H5154 NFS is broken H5181 by mine arms H2220 .
35 Thou hast also given H5414 me the shield H4043 NMS of thy salvation H3468 : and thy right hand H3225 hath holden me up H5582 , and thy gentleness H6038 hath made me great H7235 .
36 Thou hast enlarged H7337 my steps H6806 under H8478 me , that my feet H7166 did not H3808 W-NPAR slip H4571 .

41 They cried H7768 VPY3MP , but there was none H369 W-NPAR to save H3467 them : even unto H5921 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS , but he answered H6030 them not H3808 W-NPAR .
42 Then did I beat them small H7833 as the dust H6083 before H5921 PREP the wind H7307 NFS : I did cast them out H7324 as the dirt H2916 in the streets H2351 .
43 Thou hast delivered H6403 me from the strivings H7379 of the people H5971 NMS ; and thou hast made H7760 me the head H7218 of the heathen H1471 NMP : a people H5971 NMS whom I have not H3808 NADV known H3045 VQY1MS shall serve H5647 me .
44 As soon as they hear H8088 of me , they shall obey H8085 me : the strangers H1121 shall submit H3584 themselves unto me .
45 The strangers H1121 shall fade away H5034 , and be afraid H2727 out of H4480 their close places H4526 .
46 The LORD H3068 EDS liveth H2416 AMS ; and blessed H1288 W-VWPMS be my rock H6697 ; and let the God H430 of my salvation H3468 be exalted H7311 .
47 It is God H410 that avengeth H5414 me , and subdueth H1696 the people H5971 NMP under H8478 me .
48 He delivereth H6403 me from mine enemies H341 : yea H637 CONJ , thou liftest me up H7311 above H4480 PREP those that rise up H6965 against me : thou hast delivered H5337 me from the violent H2555 AMS man H376 M-NMS .
49 Therefore H5921 PREP will I give thanks H3034 unto thee , O LORD H3068 EDS , among the heathen H1471 , and sing praises H2167 unto thy name H8034 .
50 Great H1431 deliverance H3444 giveth he to his king H4428 ; and showeth H6213 mercy H2617 NMS to his anointed H4899 , to David H1732 L-NAME , and to his seed H2233 forevermore H5704 PREP .
