Jeremiah 43:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 AND WHEN Jeremiah had finished speaking to all the people all these words of the Lord their God--everything for which the Lord their God had sent him to them--
2 Then Azariah son of Hoshaiah and Johanan son of Kareah and all the proud and insolent men said to Jeremiah, You are not telling the truth! The Lord our God has not sent you to say, Do not go into Egypt to dwell there temporarily.
3 But Baruch son of Neriah is setting you against us to deliver us into the hands of the Chaldeans, so they may put us to death or carry us away captive to Babylon.
4 So Johanan son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces and all the people did not obey the voice of the Lord to remain in the land of Judah.
5 But Johanan son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces took all the remnant of Judah who had returned to dwell in the land of Judah from all the nations to which they had been driven--
6 Even men, women, and children, the king's daughters, and every person whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan; also he took Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch son of Neriah.
7 So they came into the land of Egypt--for they obeyed not the voice of the Lord. And they came to Tahpanhes.
8 Then came the word of the Lord to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,
9 Take large stones in your hands and hide them in the mortar in the pavement of brick which is at the entrance of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah;
10 And say to them, Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, My servant because he works for Me, and I through him will set his throne upon these stones that I have hidden; and his glittering, royal canopy will be stretched over them. Ezek. 29:19, 20.
11 And he shall come and smite the land of Egypt, giving such as are destined for death, to death, and such as are destined for captivity, to captivity, and such as are destined for the sword, to the sword.
12 And I through him will kindle a fire in the temples of the gods of Egypt; and he will burn the houses and carry the people away captive. And he will array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment as he wills and when he chooses; and he will go away from there in peace.
13 Nebuchadrezzar shall break also the images and obelisks of Heliopolis called On or Beth-shemesh--house of the sun in the land of Egypt, and the temples of the gods of Egypt shall he burn with fire.
1 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , that when Jeremiah H3414 had made an end H3615 of speaking H1696 unto H413 PREP all H3605 NMS the people H5971 all H3605 NMS the words H1697 CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS their God H430 , for which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS their God H430 had sent H7971 him to H413 PREP them , even all H3605 NMS these H428 words H1697 AMP ,
2 Then spoke H559 W-VQY3MS Azariah H5838 the son H1121 CMS of Hoshaiah H1955 , and Johanan H3110 the son H1121 CMS of Kareah H7143 , and all H3605 W-CMS the proud H2086 men H376 D-NMP , saying H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Jeremiah H3414 , Thou H859 PPRO-2MS speakest H1696 VPPMS falsely H8267 NMS : the LORD H3068 EDS our God H430 hath not H3808 NADV sent H7971 thee to say H559 W-VQY3MS , Go H935 not H3808 ADV into Egypt H4714 EFS to sojourn H1481 L-VQFC there H8033 ADV :
3 But H3588 CONJ Baruch H1263 the son H1121 of Neriah H5374 setteth thee on against us , for H4616 L-CONJ to deliver H5414 VQFC us into the hand H3027 of the Chaldeans H3778 , that they might put us to death H4191 , and carry us away captives H1540 into Babylon H894 .
4 So Johanan H3110 the son H1121 of Kareah H7143 , and all H3605 W-CMS the captains H8269 CMP of the forces H2428 , and all H3605 W-CMS the people H5971 , obeyed H8085 not H3808 W-NPAR the voice H6963 B-NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , to dwell H3427 L-VQFC in the land H776 B-GFS of Judah H3063 .
5 But Johanan H3110 the son H1121 of Kareah H7143 , and all H3605 NMS the captains H8269 CMP of the forces H2428 , took H3947 W-VQY3MS all H3605 NMS the remnant H7611 of Judah H3063 , that H834 RPRO were returned H7725 VQQ3MP from all H3605 NMS nations H1471 D-NMP , whither H834 RPRO they had been driven H5080 , to dwell H1481 L-VQFC in the land H776 B-GFS of Judah H3063 ;
6 Even men H1397 , and women H802 D-NFP , and children H2945 , and the king H4428 D-NMS \'s daughters H1323 CFP , and every H3605 NMS person H5315 D-NFS that H834 RPRO Nebuzaradan H5018 the captain H7227 AMS of the guard H2876 had left H5117 with H854 PREP Gedaliah H1436 the son H1121 of Ahikam H296 the son H1121 of Shaphan H8227 , and Jeremiah H3414 the prophet H5030 , and Baruch H1263 the son H1121 of Neriah H5374 .
7 So they came into H935 W-VQY3MP the land H776 GFS of Egypt H4714 EFS : for H3588 CONJ they obeyed H8085 VQQ3MP not H3808 NADV the voice H6963 B-NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS : thus came H935 W-VQY3MP they even to H5704 PREP Tahpanhes H8471 .
8 Then came H1961 W-VQY3MS the word H1697 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS unto H413 PREP Jeremiah H3414 in Tahpanhes H8471 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
9 Take H3947 VQI2MS great H1419 stones H68 NFP in thine hand H3027 B-CFS-2MS , and hide H2934 them in the clay H4423 in the brickkiln H4404 , which H834 RPRO is at the entry H6607 of Pharaoh H6547 EMS \'s house H1004 CMS in Tahpanhes H8471 , in the sight H5869 of the men H376 of Judah H3064 ;
10 And say H559 unto H413 PREP-3MP them , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 ; Behold H2009 , I will send H7971 and take H3947 Nebuchadnezzar H5019 the king H4428 NMS of Babylon H894 LFS , my servant H5650 CMS-1MS , and will set H7760 W-VQQ1MS his throne H3678 upon H4605 these H428 D-DPRO-3MP stones H68 that H834 RPRO I have hid H2934 ; and he shall spread H5186 his royal pavilion H8237 over H5921 PREP-3MP them .
11 And when he cometh H935 , he shall smite H5221 the land H776 GFS of Egypt H4714 , and deliver such H834 RPRO as are for death H4194 LD-NMS to death H4194 LD-NMS ; and such H834 RPRO as are for captivity H7628 to captivity H7628 ; and such H834 RPRO as are for the sword H2719 to the sword H2719 .
12 And I will kindle H3341 a fire H784 CMS in the houses H1004 of the gods H430 CDP of Egypt H4714 EFS ; and he shall burn H8313 them , and carry them away captives H7617 : and he shall array himself H5844 with H854 PREP the land H776 GFS of Egypt H4714 EFS , as H834 K-RPRO a shepherd H7462 putteth on his garment H899 NMS-3MS ; and he shall go forth H3318 from thence H8033 M-ADV in peace H7965 .
13 He shall break H7665 also the images H4676 of Beth H1053 - shemesh , that H834 RPRO is in the land H776 B-GFS of Egypt H4714 ; and the houses H1004 of the gods H430 of the Egyptians H4714 EFS shall he burn H8313 with fire H784 .
