Exodus 16:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 THEY SET out from Elim, and all the congregation of Israel came to the Wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they left the land of Egypt.
2 And the whole congregation of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness,
3 And said to them, Would that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the fleshpots and ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
4 Then the Lord said to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from the heavens for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in My law or not.
5 On the sixth day they shall prepare to bring in twice as much as they gather daily.
6 So Moses and Aaron said to all Israel, At evening you shall know that the Lord has brought you out from the land of Egypt,
7 And in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord, for He hears your murmurings against the Lord. For what are we, that you murmur against us?
8 And Moses said, This will happen when the Lord gives you in the evening flesh to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the Lord has heard your grumblings which you murmur against Him; what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against the Lord.
9 And Moses said to Aaron, Say to all the congregation of Israel, Come near before the Lord, for He has heard your murmurings.
10 And as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud!
11 The Lord said to Moses,
12 I have heard the murmurings of the Israelites; speak to them, saying, At twilight you shall eat meat, and between the two evenings you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the Lord your God.
13 In the evening quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay round about the camp.
14 And when the dew had gone, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a fine, round and flakelike thing, as fine as hoarfrost on the ground.
15 When the Israelites saw it, they said one to another, Manna What is it?. For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. John 6:31, 33.
16 This is what the Lord has commanded: Let every man gather of it as much as he will need, an omer for each person, according to the number of your persons; take it, every man for those in his tent.
17 The people did so, and gathered, some more, some less.
18 When they measured it with an omer, he who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack; each gathered according to his need.
19 Moses said, Let none of it be left until morning.
20 But they did not listen to Moses; some of them left of it until morning, and it bred worms, became foul, and stank; and Moses was angry with them.
21 They gathered it every morning, each as much as he needed, for when the sun became hot it melted.
22 And on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each person; and all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses.
23 He said to them, The Lord has said, Tomorrow is a solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord; bake and boil what you will bake and boil today; and all that remains over put aside for you to keep until morning.
24 They laid it aside till morning, as Moses told them; and it did not become foul, neither was it wormy.
25 Moses said, Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to the Lord. Today you shall find none in the field.
26 Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there shall be none.
27 On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, but they found none.
28 The Lord said to Moses, How long do you people refuse to keep My commandments and My laws?
29 See, the Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day the bread for two days; let every man remain in his place; let no man leave his place on the seventh day.
30 So the people rested on the seventh day.
31 The house of Israel called the bread manna; it was like coriander seed, white, and it tasted like wafers made with honey.
32 Moses said, This is what the Lord commands, Take an omer of it to be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.
33 And Moses said to Aaron, Take a pot and put an omer of manna in it, and lay it up before the Lord, to be kept throughout your generations.
34 As the Lord commanded Moses, Aaron laid it up before the Testimony to be kept in the ark. Heb. 9:4.
35 And the Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to a habitable land; they ate the manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.
36 (Now an omer is the tenth of an ephah.)
1 And they took their journey H5265 from Elim H362 , and all H3605 NMS the congregation H5712 CFS of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 came H935 W-VQY3MP unto H413 PREP the wilderness H4057 of Sin H5512 , which H834 RPRO is between H996 PREP Elim H362 and Sinai H5514 , on the fifteenth H6240 MMS day H3117 NMS of the second H8145 D-ONUM month H2320 LD-NMS after their departing out H3318 of the land H776 M-NFS of Egypt H4714 .
2 And the whole H3605 NMS congregation H5712 CFS of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 murmured H3885 against H5921 PREP Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 in the wilderness H4057 :
3 And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 said H559 W-VQY3MP unto H413 PREP them , Would to God H4310 IPRO we had died H4191 by the hand H3027 of the LORD H3068 EDS in the land H776 B-GFS of Egypt H4714 EFS , when we sat H3427 by H5921 PREP the flesh H1320 D-NMS pots H5518 , and when we did eat H398 bread H3899 NMS to the full H7648 ; for H3588 CONJ ye have brought us forth into H413 PREP this H2088 D-PMS wilderness H4057 D-NMS , to kill H4191 this H2088 D-PMS whole H3605 NMS assembly H6951 with hunger H7458 .
4 Then said H559 W-VQY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , Behold H2009 , I will rain H4305 VHPMS bread H3899 NMS from H4480 PREP heaven H8064 D-AMP for you ; and the people H5971 shall go out H3318 and gather H3950 a certain rate every day H1697 CMS , that H4616 L-CONJ I may prove H5254 them , whether they will walk H1980 in my law H8451 , or H518 PART no H3808 ADV .
5 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , that on the sixth H8345 day H3117 BD-NMS they shall prepare H3559 that which H834 RPRO they bring in H935 ; and it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS twice H4932 as much as PREP they gather H3950 daily H3117 NMS .
6 And Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP all H3605 NMS the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , At even H6153 NUM-MS , then ye shall know H3045 that H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS hath brought you out H3318 VHQ3MS from the land H776 M-NFS of Egypt H4714 :
7 And in the morning H1242 , then ye shall see H7200 the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 EDS ; for that he heareth H8085 your murmurings H8519 against H5921 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS : and what H4100 IGAT are we H5168 , that H3588 CONJ ye murmur H3885 against H5921 PREP us ?
8 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS , This shall be , when the LORD H3068 EDS shall give H5414 you in the evening H6153 flesh H1320 NMS to eat H398 L-VQFC , and in the morning H1242 B-NMS bread H3899 to the full H7646 ; for that the LORD H3068 EDS heareth H8085 your murmurings H8519 which H834 RPRO ye H859 PPRO-2MS murmur H3885 against H5921 PREP-3MS him : and what H4100 IGAT are we H5168 ? your murmurings H8519 are not H3808 NADV against H5921 PREP-3MS us , but H3588 CONJ against H5921 PREP-3MS the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
9 And Moses H4872 spoke H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Aaron H175 , Say H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP all H3605 NMS the congregation H5712 CFS of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , Come near H7126 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS : for H3588 CONJ he hath heard H8085 your murmurings H8519 .
10 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , as Aaron H175 spoke H1696 K-VPFC unto H413 PREP the whole H3605 NMS congregation H5712 CFS of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , that they looked H6437 toward H413 PREP the wilderness H4057 D-NMS , and , behold H2009 IJEC , the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 EDS appeared H7200 in the cloud H6051 BD-NMS .
11 And the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
12 I have heard H8085 VQQ1MS the murmurings H8519 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 : speak H1696 VPFC unto H413 PREP-3MS them , saying H559 L-VQFC , At H996 PREP even H6153 ye shall eat H398 flesh H1320 NMS , and in the morning H1242 ye shall be filled H7646 with bread H3899 NMS ; and ye shall know H3045 that H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 .
13 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , that at even H6153 the quails H7958 came up H5927 W-VHY2MS , and covered H3680 the camp H4264 : and in the morning H1242 the dew H2919 lay H1961 VQP3FS round about H5439 ADV the host H4264 .
14 And when the dew H2919 that lay H7902 was gone up H5927 W-VHY2MS , behold H2009 IJEC , upon H5921 PREP the face H6440 CMP of the wilderness H4057 D-NMS there lay a small H1851 round thing H2636 , as small H1851 as the hoar frost H3713 on H5921 PREP the ground H776 D-GFS .
15 And when the children H1121 of Israel H3478 saw H7200 W-VQY3MP it , they said H559 W-VQY3MS one H376 NMS to H413 PREP another H251 CMS-3MS , It H1931 PPRO-3MS is manna H4478 : for H3588 CONJ they knew H3045 VQQ3MP not H3808 NADV what H4100 IPRO it H1931 PPRO-3MS was . And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP them , This H1931 PPRO-3MS is the bread H3899 which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS hath given H5414 VQQ3MS you to eat H402 L-NFS .
16 This H2088 DPRO is the thing H1697 D-NMS which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS hath commanded H6680 VPQ3MS , Gather H3950 of H4480 M-PREP-3MS it every man H376 NMS according to H6310 L-CMS his eating H400 , an omer H6016 for every man H1538 , according to the number H4557 CMS of your persons H5315 ; take H3947 ye every man H376 NMS for them which H834 RPRO are in his tents H168 B-CMS-3MS .
17 And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 did H6213 W-VQY3MP so H3651 ADV , and gathered H3950 , some more H7235 , some less H4591 .
18 And when they did mete H4058 it with an omer H6016 , he that gathered much H7235 had nothing over H5736 , and he that gathered little H4591 had no H3808 W-NPAR lack H2637 ; they gathered H3950 every man H376 NMS according to H6310 L-CMS-1MS his eating H400 .
19 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Let no H408 NPAR man H376 NMS leave H3498 of H4480 M-PREP-3MS it till H5704 PREP the morning H1242 .
20 Notwithstanding they hearkened H8085 VQQ3MP not H3808 W-NPAR unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 ; but some H376 of them left H3498 of H4480 M-PREP-3MS it until H5704 PREP the morning H1242 NMS , and it bred H7311 worms H8438 , and stank H887 : and Moses H4872 was wroth H7107 with H5921 them .
21 And they gathered H3950 it every morning H1242 B-NMS , every man H376 NMS according to H6310 K-CMS his eating H400 : and when the sun H8121 D-NMS waxed hot H2552 , it melted H4549 .
22 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , that on the sixth H8345 day H3117 B-AMS they gathered H3950 twice as much H4932 bread H3899 NMS , two H8147 ONUM omers H6016 for one H259 man : and all H3605 NMS the rulers H5387 of the congregation H5712 came H935 W-VQY3MP and told H5046 Moses H4872 .
23 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS them , This H1931 PPRO-3MS is that which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS hath said H1696 VPQ3MS , Tomorrow H4279 NMS is the rest H7677 of the holy H6944 sabbath H7676 unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS : bake H644 that which H834 RPRO ye will bake H644 today , and seethe H1310 that H834 RPRO ye will seethe H1310 ; and that which H3605 NMS remaineth over H5736 lay up H5117 for you to be kept H4931 until H5704 PREP the morning H1242 .
24 And they laid it up H5117 till H5704 PREP the morning H1242 , as H834 K-RPRO Moses H4872 bade H6680 VPQ3MS : and it did not H3808 W-NPAR stink H887 , neither H3808 W-NPAR was H1961 VQQ3FS there any worm H7415 W-NFS therein .
25 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Eat H398 that today H3117 D-AMS ; for H3588 CONJ today H3117 D-AMS is a sabbath H7676 unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS : today H3117 D-AMS ye shall not H3808 NADV find H4672 it in the field H7704 .
26 Six H8337 days H3117 NMP ye shall gather H3950 it ; but on the seventh H7637 D-ONUM day H3117 , which is the sabbath H7676 , in it there shall be H1961 VQY3MS none H3808 NADV .
27 And it came to pass H1961 W-VPY3MS , that there went out H3318 VQQ3MP some of H4480 PREP the people H5971 on the seventh H7637 D-ONUM day H3117 B-AMS for to gather H3950 , and they found H4672 none H3808 W-NPAR .
28 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , How long H5704 PREP refuse H3985 ye to keep H8104 L-VQFC my commandments H4687 and my laws H8451 ?
29 See H7200 , for H3588 CONJ that the LORD H3068 EDS hath given H5414 VQQ3MS you the sabbath H7676 , therefore H3651 ADV he H1931 PPRO-3MS giveth H5414 VQPMS you on the sixth H8345 day H3117 B-AMS the bread H3899 NMS of two days H3117 ; abide H3427 ye every man H376 NMS in his place H8478 PREP-3MS , let no H408 NPAR man H376 NMS go out H3318 VQY3MS of his place H4725 M-CMS-3MP on the seventh H7637 day H3117 B-AMS .
30 So the people H5971 rested H7673 on the seventh H7637 day H3117 B-AMS .
31 And the house H1004 of Israel H3478 called H7121 W-VQY3MP the name H8034 CMS-3MS thereof Manna H4478 : and it H1931 W-PPRO-3MS was like coriander H1407 seed H2233 , white H3836 ; and the taste H2940 of it was like wafers H6838 made with honey H1706 .
32 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS , This H2088 DPRO is the thing H1697 D-NMS which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS commandeth H6680 VPQ3MS , Fill H4393 an omer H6016 of H4480 M-PREP-3MS it to be kept H4931 for your generations H1755 ; that H4616 L-CONJ they may see H7200 VQY3MP the bread H3899 wherewith H834 RPRO I have fed H398 you in the wilderness H4057 , when I brought you forth from the land H776 M-NFS of Egypt H4714 .
33 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Aaron H175 , Take H3947 VQI2MS a H259 OFS pot H6803 , and put H5414 an omer H6016 full H4393 of manna H4478 therein H8033 ADV-3FS , and lay it up H5117 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS , to be kept H4931 for your generations H1755 .
34 As H834 K-RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS commanded H6680 VPQ3MS Moses H4872 , so Aaron H175 laid it up H5117 before H6440 L-CMP the Testimony H5715 , to be kept H4931 .
35 And the children H1121 W-CMP of Israel H3478 did eat H398 VQQ3MP manna H4478 forty H705 MMP years H8141 NFS , until H5704 PREP they came H935 to H413 PREP a land H776 GFS inhabited H3427 ; they did eat H398 manna H4478 , until H5704 PREP they came H935 unto H413 PREP the borders H7097 of the land H776 GFS of Canaan H3667 LMS .
36 Now an omer H6016 is the tenth H6224 part of an ephah H374 .
