Luke 21:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 LOOKING UP, Jesus saw the rich people putting their gifts into the treasury.
2 And He saw also a poor widow putting in two mites (copper coins).
3 And He said, Truly I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them;
4 For they all gave out of their abundance (their surplus); but she has contributed out of her lack and her want, putting in all that she had on which to live.
5 And as some were saying of the temple that it was decorated with handsome (shapely and magnificent) stones and consecrated offerings laid up to be kept, He said,
6 As for all this that you thoughtfully look at, the time will come when there shall not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.
7 And they asked Him, Teacher, when will this happen? And what sign will there be when this is about to occur?
8 And He said, Be on your guard and be careful that you are not led astray; for many will come in My name appropriating to themselves the name Messiah which belongs to Me, saying, I am He! and, The time is at hand! Do not go out after them.
9 And when you hear of wars and insurrections (disturbances, disorder, and confusion), do not become alarmed and panic-stricken and terrified; for all this must take place first, but the end will not come immediately.
10 Then He told them, Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. II Chron. 15:6; Isa. 19:2.
11 There will be mighty and violent earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences (plagues: malignant and contagious or infectious epidemic diseases which are deadly and devastating); and there will be sights of terror and great signs from heaven.
12 But previous to all this, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, turning you over to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be led away before kings and governors for My name's sake.
13 This will be a time (an opportunity) for you to bear testimony.
14 Resolve and settle it in your minds not to meditate and prepare beforehand how you are to make your defense and how you will answer.
15 For I Myself will give you a mouth and such utterance and wisdom that all of your foes combined will be unable to stand against or refute.
16 You will be delivered up and betrayed even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death.
17 And you will be hated (despised) by everyone because you bear My name and for its sake.
18 But not a hair of your head shall perish. I Sam. 14:45.
19 By your steadfastness and patient endurance you shall win the true life of your souls.
20 But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know and understand that its desolation has come near.
21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let those who are inside the city get out of it, and let not those who are out in the country come into it;
22 For those are days of vengeance of rendering full justice or satisfaction, that all things that are written may be fulfilled.
23 Alas for those who are pregnant and for those who have babies which they are nursing in those days! For great misery and anguish and distress shall be upon the land and indignation and punishment and retribution upon this people.
24 They will fall by the mouth and the edge of the sword and will be led away as captives to and among all nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled (completed). Isa. 63:18; Dan. 8:13.
25 And there will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; and upon the earth there will be distress (trouble and anguish) of nations in bewilderment and perplexity without resources, left wanting, embarrassed, in doubt, not knowing which way to turn at the roaring (the echo) of the tossing of the sea, Isa. 13:10; Joel 2:10; Zeph. 1:15.
26 Men swooning away or expiring with fear and dread and apprehension and expectation of the things that are coming on the world; for the very powers of the heavens will be shaken and caused to totter.
27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with great (transcendent and overwhelming) power and all His kingly glory (majesty and splendor). Dan. 7:13, 14.
28 Now when these things begin to occur, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption (deliverance) is drawing near.
29 And He told them a parable: Look at the fig tree and all the trees;
30 When they put forth their buds and come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and perceive and know that summer is already near.
31 Even so, when you see these things taking place, understand and know that the kingdom of God is at hand.
32 Truly I tell you, this generation (those living at that definite period of time) will not perish and pass away until all has taken place.
33 The sky and the earth (the universe, the world) will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
34 But take heed to yourselves and be on your guard, lest your hearts be overburdened and depressed (weighed down) with the giddiness and headache and nausea of self-indulgence, drunkenness, and worldly worries and cares pertaining to the business of this life, and lest that day come upon you suddenly like a trap or a noose;
35 For it will come upon all who live upon the face of the entire earth.
36 Keep awake then and watch at all times be discreet, attentive, and ready, praying that you may have the full strength and ability and be accounted worthy to escape all these things taken together that will take place, and to stand in the presence of the Son of Man.
37 Now in the daytime Jesus was teaching in the porches and courts of the temple, but at night He would go out and stay on the mount called Olivet.
38 And early in the morning all the people came to Him in the temple porches or courts to listen to Him.
1 And G1161 CONJ he looked up G308 V-AAP-NSM , and saw G1492 V-2AAI-3S the G3588 T-APM rich men G4145 A-APM casting G906 V-PAP-APM their G3588 T-APN gifts G1435 N-APN into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN treasury G1049 N-ASN .
2 And G1161 CONJ he saw G1492 V-2AAI-3S also G2532 CONJ a certain G5100 X-ASF poor G3998 A-ASF widow G5503 N-ASF casting in G906 V-PAP-ASF thither G1563 ADV two G1417 A-NUI mites G3016 N-APN .
3 And G2532 CONJ he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Of a truth G230 ADV I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , that G3754 CONJ this G3588 T-NSF poor G4434 A-NSF widow G5503 N-NSF hath cast in G906 V-2AAI-3S more G4119 A-ASN-C than they all G3956 A-GPM :
4 For G1063 CONJ all G537 A-NPM these G3778 D-NPM have of G1537 PREP their G3588 T-GSN abundance G4052 V-PAP-GSN cast in G906 V-2AAI-3P unto G1519 PREP the G3588 T-APN offerings G1435 N-APN of God G2316 N-GSM : but G1161 CONJ she G3778 D-NSF of G1537 PREP her G3588 T-GSN penury G5303 N-GSN hath cast in G906 V-2AAI-3S all G537 A-ASM the G3588 T-ASM living G979 N-ASM that G3739 R-ASM she had G2192 V-IAI-3S .
5 And G2532 CONJ as some G5100 X-GPM spake G3004 V-PAP-GPM of G4012 PREP the G3588 T-GSN temple G2411 N-GSN , how G3754 CONJ it was adorned G2885 V-RPI-3S with goodly G2570 A-DPM stones G3037 N-DPM and G2532 CONJ gifts G334 N-DPN , he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S ,
6 As for these things G5023 D-APN which G3739 R-APN ye behold G2334 V-PAI-2P , the days G2250 N-NPF will come G2064 V-FDI-3P , in G1722 PREP the which G3739 R-DPF there shall not G3756 PRT-N be left G863 V-FPI-3S one stone upon another G3037 N-NSM , that G3739 R-NSM shall not G3756 PRT-N be thrown down G2647 V-FPI-3S .
7 And G1161 CONJ they asked G1905 V-AAI-3P him G846 P-ASM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , Master G1320 N-VSM , but when G4219 PRT-I shall G3767 CONJ these things G5023 D-NPN be G2071 V-FXI-3S ? and G2532 CONJ what G3588 T-NSN sign G4592 N-NSN will there be when G3752 CONJ these things G5023 D-NPN shall G3195 V-PAS-3S come to pass G1096 V-PNN ?
8 And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Take heed G991 V-PAM-2P that ye be not G3361 PRT-N deceived G4105 V-APS-2P : for G1063 CONJ many G4183 A-NPM shall come G2064 V-FDI-3P in G1909 PREP my G3588 T-DSN name G3686 N-DSN , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , I G1473 P-1NS am G1510 V-PXI-1S Christ ; and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM time G2540 N-NSM draweth near G1448 V-RAI-3S : go G4198 V-AOS-2P ye not G3361 PRT-N therefore G3767 CONJ after G3694 ADV them G846 P-GPM .
9 But G1161 CONJ when G3752 CONJ ye shall hear G191 V-AAS-2P of wars G4171 N-APM and G2532 CONJ commotions G181 N-APF , be not G3361 PRT-N terrified G4422 V-APS-2P : for G1063 CONJ these things G5023 D-NPN must G1163 V-PQI-3S first G4412 ADV come to pass G1096 V-2ADN ; but G235 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN end G5056 N-NSN is not G3756 PRT-N by and by G2112 ADV .
10 Then G5119 ADV said G3004 V-IAI-3S he unto them G846 P-DPM , Nation G1484 N-NSN shall rise G1453 V-FPI-3S against G1909 PREP nation G1484 N-ASN , and G2532 CONJ kingdom G932 N-NSF against G1909 PREP kingdom G932 N-ASF :
11 And G5037 PRT great G3173 A-NPM earthquakes G4578 N-NPM shall be G2071 V-FXI-3P in divers places G5117 N-APM , and G2532 CONJ famines G3042 N-NPM , and G2532 CONJ pestilences G3061 N-NPM ; and G5037 PRT fearful sights G5400 N-NPN and G2532 CONJ great G3173 A-NPN signs G4592 N-NPN shall there be G2071 V-FXI-3S from G575 PREP heaven G3772 N-GSM .
12 But G1161 CONJ before G4253 PREP all G537 these G5130 D-GPN , they shall lay G1911 V-FAI-3P their G3588 T-APF hands G5495 N-APF on G1909 PREP you G5209 P-2AP , and G2532 CONJ persecute G1377 V-FAI-3P you , delivering you up G3860 V-PAP-NPM to G1519 PREP the synagogues G4864 N-APF , and G2532 CONJ into prisons G5438 N-APF , being brought G71 V-PPP-APM before G1909 PREP kings G935 N-APM and G2532 CONJ rulers G2232 N-APM for my name\'s sake G1752 ADV .
13 And G1161 CONJ it shall turn G576 V-FDI-3S to you G5213 P-2DP for G1519 PREP a testimony G3142 N-ASN .
14 Settle G5087 V-2AMM-2P it therefore G3767 CONJ in G1519 PREP your G3588 T-APF hearts G2588 N-APF , not G3361 PRT-N to meditate before G4304 V-PAN what ye shall answer G626 V-AON :
15 For G1063 CONJ I G1473 P-1NS will give G1325 V-FAI-1S you G5213 P-2DP a mouth G4750 N-ASN and G2532 CONJ wisdom G4678 N-ASF , which G3739 R-DSF all G3956 A-NPM your G3588 T-NPM adversaries G480 V-PNP-NPM shall not G3756 PRT-N be able G1410 V-FDI-3P to gainsay G471 V-2AAN nor G3761 ADV resist G436 V-2AAN .
16 And G1161 CONJ ye shall be betrayed G3860 V-FPI-2P both G2532 CONJ by G5259 PREP parents G1118 N-GPM , and G2532 CONJ brethren G80 N-GPM , and G2532 CONJ kinsfolk G4773 A-GPM , and G2532 CONJ friends G5384 A-GPM ; and G2532 CONJ some of G1537 PREP you G5216 P-2GP shall they cause to be put to death G2289 V-FAI-3P .
17 And G2532 CONJ ye shall be G2071 V-FXI-2P hated G3404 V-PPP-NPM of G5259 PREP all G3956 A-GPM men for my name\'s sake G1223 PREP .
18 But G2532 CONJ there shall not G3364 a hair G2359 N-NSF of G1537 PREP your G3588 T-GSF head G2776 N-GSF perish G622 V-2AMS-3S .
19 In G1722 PREP your G3588 T-DSF patience G5281 N-DSF possess G2932 V-ADM-2P ye G3588 T-APF your G3588 T-APF souls G5590 N-APF .
20 And G1161 CONJ when G3752 CONJ ye shall see G1492 V-2AAS-2P Jerusalem G2419 N-PRI compassed G2944 V-PPP-ASF with G5259 PREP armies G4760 N-GPN , then G5119 ADV know G1097 V-2AAM-2P that G3754 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF desolation G2050 N-NSF thereof G846 P-GSF is nigh G1448 V-RAI-3S .
21 Then G5119 ADV let them G3588 T-NPM which G3588 T-NPM are in G1722 PREP Judea G2449 N-DSF flee G5343 V-PAM-3P to G1519 PREP the G3588 T-APN mountains G3735 N-APN ; and G2532 CONJ let them G3588 T-APN which G3588 T-NPM are in G1722 PREP the midst G3319 A-DSN of it G848 depart out G1633 V-PAM-3P ; and G2532 CONJ let not G3361 PRT-N them G3588 T-NPM that G3588 T-NPM are in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DPF countries G5561 N-DPF enter G1525 V-PNM-3P thereinto G1519 PREP .
22 For G3754 CONJ these G3778 D-NPF be G1526 V-PXI-3P the days G2250 N-NPF of vengeance G1557 N-GSF , that all things G3956 A-APN which are written G1125 V-RPP-APN may be fulfilled G4137 .
23 But G1161 CONJ woe G3759 INJ unto them that are with child G1722 PREP , and G2532 CONJ to them that give suck G2337 V-PAP-DPF , in G1722 PREP those G3588 T-DPF days G2250 N-DPF ! for G1063 CONJ there shall be G2071 V-FXI-3S great G3173 A-NSF distress G318 N-NSF in G1909 PREP the G3588 T-GSF land G1093 N-GSF , and G2532 CONJ wrath G3709 N-NSF upon G1722 PREP this G3588 T-DSM people G2992 N-DSM .
24 And G2532 CONJ they shall fall G4098 V-FNI-3P by the edge G4750 N-DSN of the sword G3162 N-GSF , and G2532 CONJ shall be led away captive G163 V-FPI-3P into G1519 PREP all G3956 A-APN nations G1484 N-APN : and G2532 CONJ Jerusalem G2419 N-PRI shall be G2071 V-FXI-3S trodden down G3961 V-PPP-NSM of G5259 PREP the Gentiles G1484 N-GPN , until G891 PREP the times G2540 N-NPM of the Gentiles G1484 N-GPN be fulfilled G4137 V-APS-3P .
25 And G2532 CONJ there shall be G2071 V-FXI-3S signs G4592 N-NPN in G1722 PREP the sun G2246 N-DSM , and G2532 CONJ in the moon G4582 N-DSF , and G2532 CONJ in the stars G798 N-DPN ; and G2532 CONJ upon G1909 PREP the G3588 T-GSF earth G1093 N-GSF distress G4928 N-NSF of nations G1484 N-GPN , with G1722 PREP perplexity G640 N-DSF ; the sea G2281 N-GSF and G2532 CONJ the waves G4535 N-GSM roaring G2278 V-PAP-GSF ;
26 Men G444 N-GPM \'s hearts failing them G674 V-PAP-GPM for G575 PREP fear G5401 N-GSM , and G2532 CONJ for looking after G4329 N-GSF those things which are coming on G1904 V-PNP-GPM the G3588 T-DSF earth G3625 N-DSF : for G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-DSF powers G1411 N-NPF of heaven G3772 N-GPM shall be shaken G4531 V-FPI-3P .
27 And G2532 CONJ then G5119 ADV shall they see G3700 V-FDI-3P the G3588 T-ASM Son G5207 N-ASM of man G444 N-GSM coming G2064 V-PNP-ASM in G1722 PREP a cloud G3507 N-DSF with G3326 PREP power G1411 N-GSF and G2532 CONJ great G4183 A-GSF glory G1391 N-GSF .
28 And G1161 CONJ when these things G5130 D-GPM begin G756 V-PMP-GPM to come to pass G1096 V-PNN , then look up G352 V-AAM-2P , and G2532 CONJ lift up G1869 V-AAM-2P your G3588 T-APF heads G2776 N-APF ; for G1360 CONJ your G3588 T-NSF redemption G629 N-NSF draweth nigh G1448 V-PAI-3S .
29 And G2532 CONJ he spake G2036 V-2AAI-3S to them G846 P-DPM a parable G3850 N-ASF ; Behold G1492 V-2AAM-2P the G3588 T-ASF fig tree G4808 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ all G3956 A-APN the G3588 T-APN trees G1186 N-APN ;
30 When G3752 CONJ they now G2235 ADV shoot forth G4261 V-2AAS-3P , ye see G991 V-PAP-NPM and know G1097 V-PAI-2P of G575 PREP your own selves G1438 F-3GPM that G3588 T-NSN summer G2330 N-NSN is G2076 V-PXI-3S now G2235 ADV nigh at hand G1451 ADV .
31 So G2532 CONJ likewise G3779 ADV ye G5210 P-2NP , when G3752 CONJ ye see G1492 V-2AAS-2P these things G5023 D-APN come to pass G1096 V-PNP-APN , know G1097 V-PAM-2P ye that G3754 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF kingdom G932 N-NSF of God G2316 N-GSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S nigh at hand G1451 ADV .
32 Verily G281 HEB I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , This G3588 T-NSF generation G1074 N-NSF shall not G3364 pass away G3928 V-2AAS-3S , till G2193 CONJ all G3956 A-APN be fulfilled G1096 V-2ADS-3S .
33 Heaven G3772 N-NSM and G2532 CONJ earth G1093 N-NSF shall pass away G3928 V-FDI-3P : but G1161 CONJ my G3450 P-1GS words G3056 N-NPM shall not G3364 pass away G3928 V-2AAS-3P .
34 And G1161 CONJ take heed G4337 V-PAM-2P to yourselves G1438 F-3DPM , lest at any time G3379 ADV your G3588 T-NPF hearts G2588 N-NPF be overcharged G925 with G1722 PREP surfeiting G2897 N-DSF , and G2532 CONJ drunkenness G3178 N-DSF , and G2532 CONJ cares G3308 N-DPF of this life G982 A-DPF , and G2532 CONJ so that G3588 T-NSF day G2250 N-NSF come G2186 V-2AAS-3S upon G1909 PREP you G5209 P-2AP unawares G160 A-NSM .
35 For G1063 CONJ as G5613 ADV a snare G3803 N-NSF shall it come G1904 V-FDI-3S on G1909 PREP all G3956 A-APM them that dwell G2521 V-PNP-APM on G1909 PREP the face G4383 N-ASN of the G3588 T-APM whole G3956 A-GSF earth G1093 N-GSF .
36 Watch G69 V-PAM-2P ye therefore G3767 CONJ , and pray G1189 V-PNP-NPM always G1722 PREP , that G2443 CONJ ye may be accounted worthy G2661 V-APS-2P to escape G1628 V-2AAN all G3956 A-DSM these G3588 T-APN things G5023 that shall G3195 V-PAP-APN come to pass G1096 V-PNN , and G2532 CONJ to stand G2476 V-APN before G1715 PREP the G3588 T-GSM Son G5207 N-GSM of man G444 N-GSM .
37 And G1161 CONJ in the G3588 T-APF daytime G2250 N-APF he was G2258 V-IXI-3S teaching G1321 V-PAP-NSM in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSN temple G2411 N-DSN ; and G1161 CONJ at night G3571 N-APF he went out G1831 V-PNP-NSM , and abode G835 V-INI-3S in G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN mount G3735 N-ASN that is called G2564 V-PPP-ASN the mount of Olives G1636 N-GPF .
38 And G2532 CONJ all G3956 A-NSM the G3588 T-NSM people G2992 N-NSM came early in the morning G3719 V-IAI-3S to G4314 PREP him G846 P-ASM in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSN temple G2411 N-DSN , for to hear G191 V-PAN him G846 P-GSM .
