Nahum 3:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 WOE TO the bloody city! It is full of lies and booty and there is no end to the plunder! Ezek. 24:6, 9, 10; Hab. 2:12.
2 The cracking of the whip, the noise of the rattling of wheels, and prancing horses and chariots rumbling and bounding,
3 Horsemen mounting and charging, the flashing sword, the gleaming spear, a multitude of slain and a great number of corpses, no end of corpses! The horsemen stumble over the corpses!
4 All because of the multitude of the harlotries of Nineveh, the well-favored harlot, the mistress of deadly charms who betrays and sells nations through her whoredoms idolatry and peoples through her enchantments.
5 Behold, I am against you, says the Lord of hosts, and I will lift up your skirts over your face, and I will let the nations look on your nakedness O Nineveh and the kingdoms on your shame.
6 I will cast abominable things at you and make you filthy, treat you with contempt, and make you a gazingstock.
7 And all who look on you will shrink and flee from you and say, Nineveh is laid waste; who will pity and bemoan her? Where then shall I seek comforters for you?
8 Are you better than No-amon Thebes, capital of Upper Egypt, that dwelt by the rivers or canals, that had the waters round about her, whose rampart was a sea the Nile and water her wall?
9 Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and that without limit. Put and the Libyans were her helpers.
10 Yet she was carried away; she went into captivity. Her young children also were dashed in pieces at all the street corners; lots were cast by the Assyrian officers for her nobles, and all her great men were bound with chains.
11 You will be drunk Nineveh, with the cup of God's wrath; you will be dazed. You will seek and require a refuge because of the enemy.
12 All your fortresses are fig trees with early figs; if they are shaken they will fall into the mouth of the eater.
13 Behold, your troops in the midst of you are as weak and helpless as women; the gates of your land are set wide open to your enemies without effort; fire consumes your bars.
14 Draw for yourself the water necessary for a long continued siege, make strong your fortresses! Go down into the clay pits and trample the mortar; make ready the brickkiln to burn bricks for the bulwarks!
15 But there in the very midst of these preparations will the fire devour you; the sword will cut you off; it will destroy you as the locusts destroy. Multiply yourselves like the licking locusts; make yourselves many like the swarming locusts!
16 You increased your merchants more than the visible stars of the heavens. The swarming locust spreads itself and destroys, and then flies away.
17 Your princes are like the grasshoppers and your marshals like the swarms of locusts which encamp in the hedges on a cold day--but when the sun rises, they fly away, and no one knows where they are.
18 Your shepherds are asleep, O king of Assyria; your nobles are lying still in death. Your people are scattered on the mountains and there is no one to gather them.
19 There is no healing of your hurt; your wound is grievous. All who hear the news about you clap their hands over what has happened to you. For upon whom has not your unceasing evil come continually?

4 Because of the multitude H7230 M-NMS of the whoredoms H2183 of the well favored H2896 harlot H2181 , the mistress H1172 of witchcrafts H3785 , that selleth H4376 nations H1471 NMP through her whoredoms H2183 , and families H4940 through her witchcrafts H3785 .
5 Behold H2009 , I am against H413 thee , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 ; and I will discover H1540 thy skirts H7757 upon H5921 PREP thy face H6440 , and I will show H7200 the nations H1471 NMP thy nakedness H4626 , and the kingdoms H4467 thy shame H7036 .
6 And I will cast H7993 abominable filth H8251 upon H5921 thee , and make thee vile H5034 , and will set H7760 thee as a gazingstock H7210 .
7 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , that all H3605 CMS they that look upon H7200 thee shall flee H5074 from H4480 thee , and say H559 , Nineveh H5210 LFS is laid waste H7703 : who H4310 IPRO will bemoan H5110 her ? whence H370 M-ADV shall I seek H1245 comforters H5162 for thee ?
8 Art thou better H3190 than populous H528 No H4996 , that was situate H3427 among the rivers H2975 , that had the waters H4325 OMD round about H5439 ADV it , whose H834 RPRO rampart H2426 was the sea H3220 NMS , and her wall H2346 was from the sea H3220 M-NMS ?
9 Ethiopia H3568 EMS and Egypt H4714 W-EMS were her strength H6109 , and it was infinite H369 W-NPAR ; Put H6316 and Lubim H3864 were H1961 VQQ3MP thy helpers H5833 .
10 Yet H1571 CONJ was she H1931 PPRO-3FS carried away H1473 , she went H1980 into captivity H7628 : her young children H5768 also H1571 CONJ were dashed in pieces H7376 at the top H7218 B-NMS of all H3605 NMS the streets H2351 : and they cast H3032 lots H1486 for H5921 W-PREP her honorable men H3513 , and all H3605 NMS her great men H1419 were bound H7576 in chains H2131 .
11 Thou H859 also H1571 CONJ shalt be drunken H7937 : thou shalt be H1961 VQI3FS hid H5956 , thou H859 also H1571 CONJ shalt seek H1245 strength H4581 because of the enemy H341 .
12 All H3605 NMS thy strongholds H4013 shall be like fig trees H8384 with H5973 PREP the firstripe figs H1061 : if H518 PART they be shaken H5128 , they shall even fall H5307 into H5921 PREP the mouth H6310 of the eater H398 .
13 Behold H2009 IJEC , thy people H5971 in the midst H7130 of thee are women H802 GFP : the gates H8179 CMP of thy land H776 shall be set wide open H6605 unto thine enemies H341 : the fire H784 CMS shall devour H398 VQQ3FS thy bars H1280 .
14 Draw H7579 thee waters H4325 for the siege H4692 , fortify H2388 thy strongholds H4013 : go H935 into clay H2916 , and tread H7429 the mortar H2563 , make strong H2388 the brickkiln H4404 .
15 There H8033 ADV shall the fire H784 CMS devour H398 thee ; the sword H2719 GFS shall cut thee off H3772 , it shall eat thee up H398 like the cankerworm H3218 : make thyself many H3513 as the cankerworm H3218 , make thyself many H3513 as the locusts H697 .
16 Thou hast multiplied H7235 thy merchants H7402 above the stars H3556 of heaven H8064 D-AMP : the cankerworm H3218 spoileth H6584 , and flieth away H5774 .
17 Thy crowned H4502 are as the locusts H697 , and thy captains H2951 as the great grasshoppers H1462 , which camp H2583 in the hedges H1448 in the cold H7135 day H3117 B-NMS , but when the sun H8121 ariseth H2224 they flee away H5074 , and their place H4725 is not known H3045 where H335 they are .
18 Thy shepherds H7462 slumber H5123 , O king H4428 NMS of Assyria H804 GFS : thy nobles H117 shall dwell H7931 in the dust : thy people H5971 is scattered H6335 upon H5921 PREP the mountains H2022 , and no man H369 W-NPAR gathereth H6908 them .
19 There is no H369 NPAR healing H3545 of thy bruise H7667 ; thy wound H4347 is grievous H2470 : all H3605 NMS that hear H8085 the bruit H8088 of thee shall clap H8628 the hands H3709 over H5921 PREP thee : for H3588 CONJ upon H5921 PREP whom H4310 IPRO hath not H3808 ADV thy wickedness H7451 passed H5674 VQQ3FS continually H8548 ?
