1 ALSO I the angel, in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I, stood up to confirm and to strengthen him Michael, the angelic prince.

2 And now I will show you the truth. Behold, there shall arise three more kings in Persia, and a fourth shall be far richer than they all. And when he has become strong through his riches he shall stir up and stake all against the realm of Greece.

3 Then a mighty warlike, threatening king shall arise who shall rule with great dominion and do according to his own will.

4 And as soon as he has fully arisen, his Alexander the Great's kingdom shall be broken by his death and divided toward the four winds the east, west, north, and south of the heavens, but not to his posterity, nor according to the Grecian dominion which he ruled, for his kingdom shall be torn out and uprooted and go to others to his four generals to the exclusion of these.

5 Then the king of the South (Egypt) shall be strong, but one of his princes shall be stronger than he is and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion.

6 At the end of some years they the king of the North, Syria, and the king of the South, Egypt shall make an alliance; the daughter of the king of the South shall come to the king of the North to make a just and peaceful marriage agreement; but she shall not retain the power of her might, neither shall he and his might endure. She shall be handed over with her attendants, her child, and him who strengthened her in those times.

7 But out of a branch of the same ancestral roots as hers shall one her brother stand up in his place or office, who shall come against the Syrian army and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the North and shall deal against them and shall prevail.

8 And also he shall carry off to Egypt their Syria's gods with their molten images and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold, and he shall refrain for some years from waging war against the king of the North.

9 And he the king of Syria shall come into the kingdom of the king of the South but shall return to his own land.

10 But his sons shall be stirred up and shall prepare for war and shall assemble a multitude of great forces, which shall come on and overflow and pass through and again shall make war even to the fortress of the king of the South.

11 And the king of the South (Egypt) shall be moved with anger and shall come forth and fight with the king of the North (Syria); and he the Syrian king shall set forth a great multitude, but the multitude shall be given into his the Egyptian king's hand.

12 When the multitude is taken and carried away, the heart and mind of the Egyptian king shall be exalted, and he shall cast down tens of thousands, but he shall not prevail.

13 For the king of the North shall raise a multitude greater than he had before, and after some years shall certainly return, coming with a great army and much substance and equipment.

14 In those times many shall rise up against the king of the South (Egypt); also the men of violence among your own people shall lift themselves up in order to fulfill the visions of Dan. 8 and 9, but they shall fail and fall.

15 Then the king of the North shall come and cast up siege works and take a well-fortified city, and the forces of the South shall not stand, or even his chosen troops, for there shall be no strength to stand against the Syrian king.

16 But he Antiochus the Great who comes against him from Syria shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him; he shall stand in the glorious land of Israel, and in his hand shall be destruction and all the land shall be in his power.

17 He Antiochus the Great shall set his face to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and with him upright conditions and terms of peace, and he shall perform them by making an agreement with the king of the South. He shall give him his daughter to corrupt and destroy it his league with Egypt and the kingdom, but it shall not succeed or be to his advantage.

18 After this he shall turn his attention to the islands and coastlands and shall take over many of them. But a prince or commander shall teach him Antiochus the Great to put an end to the insults offered by him; in fact he shall turn his insolence and reproaches back upon him.

19 Then he shall turn his face back toward the fortresses of his own land of Syria, but he shall stumble and fall and not be found.

20 Then shall stand up in his place or office one who shall send an exactor of tribute to pass through the glory of the kingdom, but within a few days he shall be destroyed, yet neither in anger nor in battle.

21 And in his place or office in Syria shall arise a contemptuous and contemptible person, to whom royal majesty and honor of the kingdom have not been given. But he shall come in without warning in time of security and shall obtain the kingdom by flatteries, intrigues, and cunning hypocritical conduct. Dan. 8:9-12, 23-25.

22 Before him the overwhelming forces of invading armies shall be broken and utterly swept away; yes, and a prince of the covenant with those who were at peace with him also shall be broken and swept away.

23 And from the time that an alliance is made with him he shall work deceitfully, and he shall come up unexpectedly and shall become strong with a small people.

24 Without warning and stealthily he shall come into the most productive places of a province or among the richest men of a province of Egypt, and he shall do that which his fathers have not done nor his fathers' fathers; he shall distribute among them plunder, spoil, and goods. He shall devise plans against strongholds--but only for a time the period decreed by God.

25 And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South Egypt with a great army; and the king of the South shall wage war with an exceedingly great and mighty army, but he shall not stand, for schemes shall be devised against the king of the South.

26 Yes, those who eat of his rich and dainty food shall break and destroy him, and his army shall drift or turn away to flee, and many shall fall down slain.

27 And as for both of these kings, their hearts and minds shall be set on doing mischief; they shall speak lies over the same table, but it will not succeed, for the end is yet to be at the time appointed.

28 Then shall the vile conqueror from the North return into his land with much booty; and his heart and purpose shall be set against God's holy covenant with His people, and he shall accomplish his malicious intention and return to his own land Syria.

29 At the time appointed God's own time he shall return and come into the South, but it shall not be successful as were the former invasions of Egypt.

30 For the ships of Kittim or Cyprus, in Roman hands shall come against him; therefore he shall be grieved and discouraged and turn back to Palestine and carry out his rage and indignation against the holy covenant and God's people, and he shall do his own pleasure; he shall even turn back and make common cause with those Jews who abandon the holy covenant with God.

31 And armed forces of his shall appear in the holy land and they shall pollute the sanctuary, the spiritual stronghold, and shall take away the continual daily burnt offering; and they shall set up in the sanctuary the abomination that astonishes and makes desolate probably an altar to a pagan god.

32 And such as violate the covenant he shall pervert and seduce with flatteries, but the people who know their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits for God.

33 And they who are wise and understanding among the people shall instruct many and make them understand, though some of them and their followers shall fall by the sword and flame, by captivity and plunder, for many days.

34 Now when they fall, they shall receive a little help. Many shall join themselves to them with flatteries and hypocrisies.

35 And some of those who are wise, prudent, and understanding shall be weakened and fall, thus, then, the insincere among the people will lose courage and become deserters. It will be a test to refine, to purify, and to make those among God's people white, even to the time of the end, because it is yet for the time God appointed.

36 And the king shall do according to his will; he shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every god and shall speak astonishing things against the God of gods and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished, for that which is determined by God shall be done.

37 He shall not regard the gods of his fathers or Him to Whom women desire to give birth--the Messiah or any other god, for he shall magnify himself above all.

38 But in their place he shall honor the god of fortresses; a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honor with gold and silver, with precious stones, and with pleasant and expensive things.

39 And he shall deal with the strongest fortresses by the help of a foreign god. Those who acknowledge him he shall magnify with glory and honor, and he shall cause them to rule over many and shall divide the land for a price.

40 And at the time of the end the king of the South shall push at and attack him, and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots and horsemen and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries and shall overflow and pass through.

41 He shall enter into the Glorious Land Palestine and many shall be overthrown, but these shall be delivered out of his hand: Edom, Moab, and the main core of the people of Ammon.

42 He shall stretch out his hand also against the other countries, but the land of Egypt shall not be among the escaped ones.

43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver and over all the precious things of Egypt, and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall accompany him compelled to follow his steps.

44 But rumors from the east and from the north shall alarm and hasten him. And he shall go forth with great fury to destroy and utterly to sweep away many.

45 And he shall pitch his palatial tents between the seas and the glorious holy Mount Zion; yet he shall come to his end with none to help him. II Thess. 2:4; Rev. 13:5-8.

6 And in the end ^H7093 of years ^H8141 ^NFP they shall join themselves together ^H2266 ; for the king ^H4428 ^NMS \'s daughter ^H1323 of the south ^H5045 ^D-NMS shall come ^H935 ^VQY2MS to ^H413 ^PREP the king ^H4428 ^NMS of the north ^H6828 to make ^H6213 ^L-VQFC an agreement ^H4339 : but she shall not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR retain ^H6113 the power ^H3581 of the arm ^H2220 ; neither ^H3808 ^W-NPAR shall he stand ^H5975 ^VQY3MS , nor his arm ^H2220 : but she ^H1931 ^PPRO-3FS shall be given up ^H5414 , and they that brought ^H935 ^VQY2MS her , and he that begot ^H3205 her , and he that strengthened ^H2388 her in these times ^H6256 .

8 And shall also ^H1571 ^W-CONJ carry ^H935 captives ^H7628 into Egypt ^H4714 their gods ^H430 , with ^H5973 ^PREP their princes ^H5257 , and with ^H5973 ^PREP their precious ^H2532 vessels ^H3627 of silver ^H3701 ^NMS and of gold ^H2091 ; and he ^H1931 ^W-PPRO-3MS shall continue ^H5975 ^VQY3MS more years ^H8141 ^NFP than the king ^H4428 of the north ^H6828 .

9 So the king ^H4428 ^NMS of the south ^H5045 ^D-NMS shall come ^H935 into his kingdom ^H4438 , and shall return ^H7725 ^W-VQQ3MS into ^H413 ^PREP his own land ^H127 .

10 But his sons ^H1121 shall be stirred up ^H1624 , and shall assemble ^H622 a multitude ^H1995 of great ^H7227 ^AMP forces ^H2428 : and one shall certainly come ^H935 , and overflow ^H7857 , and pass through ^H5674 : then shall he return ^H7725 , and be stirred up ^H1624 , even to ^H5704 ^PREP his fortress ^H4581 .

11 And the king ^H4428 ^NMS of the south ^H5045 ^D-NMS shall be moved with anger ^H4843 , and shall come forth ^H3318 and fight ^H3898 with ^H5973 ^PREP-3MS him , even with ^H5973 ^PREP the king ^H4428 ^NMS of the north ^H6828 : and he shall set forth ^H5975 a great ^H7227 ^AMS multitude ^H1995 ^NMS ; but the multitude ^H1995 shall be given ^H5414 into his hand ^H3027 ^B-CFS-3MS .

12 And when he hath taken away ^H5375 the multitude ^H1995 , his heart ^H3824 shall be lifted up ^H7311 ; and he shall cast down ^H5307 many ten thousands ^H7239 : but he shall not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR be strengthened ^H5810 by it .

13 For the king ^H4428 ^NMS of the north ^H6828 shall return ^H7725 ^W-VQQ3MS , and shall set forth ^H5975 a multitude ^H1995 ^NMS greater ^H7227 ^AMS than ^H4480 ^PREP the former ^H7223 , and shall certainly come ^H935 ^VQY3MS after ^H7093 certain ^H6256 years ^H8141 ^NFP with a great ^H1419 ^AMS army ^H2428 and with much ^H7227 ^AMS riches ^H7399 .

14 And in those ^H1992 ^D-PPRO-3MP times ^H6256 there shall many ^H7227 ^AMP stand up ^H5975 against ^H5921 ^PREP the king ^H4428 ^NMS of the south ^H5045 ^D-NMS : also the robbers ^H1121 ^W-CMP of thy people ^H5971 shall exalt themselves ^H5375 to establish ^H5975 the vision ^H2377 ; but they shall fall ^H3782 .

15 So the king ^H4428 ^NMS of the north ^H6828 shall come ^H935 ^W-VQY3MS , and cast up ^H8210 a mount ^H5550 , and take ^H3920 the most fenced ^H4013 cities ^H5892 ^GFS : and the arms ^H2220 ^W-CFP of the south ^H5045 ^D-NMS shall not ^H3808 ^NADV withstand ^H5975 , neither his chosen ^H4005 people ^H5971 , neither ^H369 ^W-NPAR shall there be any strength ^H3581 ^CMS to withstand ^H5975 .

16 But he that cometh ^H935 against ^H413 ^PREP-3MS him shall do ^H6213 according to his own will ^H7522 , and none ^H369 ^W-NPAR shall stand ^H5975 before ^H6440 ^L-CMP-3MS him : and he shall stand ^H5975 in the glorious ^H6643 land ^H776 ^B-GFS , which by his hand ^H3027 shall be consumed ^H3615 .

19 Then he shall turn ^H7725 his face ^H6440 ^CMP-3MS toward the fort ^H4581 of his own land ^H776 : but he shall stumble ^H3782 and fall ^H5307 , and not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR be found ^H4672 .

20 Then shall stand up ^H5975 ^W-VQQ3MS in ^H5921 ^PREP his estate ^H3653 a raiser ^H5674 of taxes ^H5065 ^VQPMS in the glory ^H1925 of the kingdom ^H4438 ^CFP : but within few ^H259 days ^H3117 he shall be destroyed ^H7665 , neither ^H3808 ^W-NPAR in anger ^H639 , nor ^H3808 ^W-NPAR in battle ^H4421 .

21 And in ^H5921 ^PREP his estate ^H3653 shall stand up ^H5975 ^W-VQQ3MS a vile person ^H959 , to ^H5921 ^PREP whom they shall not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR give ^H5414 the honor ^H1935 ^CMS of the kingdom ^H4438 ^CFP : but he shall come in ^H935 peaceably ^H7962 , and obtain ^H2388 the kingdom ^H4438 ^CFP by flatteries ^H2519 .

22 And with the arms ^H2220 ^W-CFP of a flood ^H7858 shall they be overflown ^H7857 from before ^H6440 him , and shall be broken ^H7665 ; yea , also ^H1571 ^W-CONJ the prince ^H5057 of the covenant ^H1285 .

23 And after ^H4480 ^W-PREP the league ^H2266 made with ^H413 ^PREP-3MS him he shall work ^H6213 ^VQY3MS deceitfully ^H4820 ^NFS : for he shall come up ^H5927 , and shall become strong ^H6105 with a small ^H4592 people ^H1471 .

24 He shall enter ^H935 ^VQY3MS peaceably ^H7962 even upon the fattest places ^H4924 of the province ^H4082 ; and he shall do ^H6213 ^W-VQQ3MS that which ^H834 ^RPRO his fathers ^H1 have not ^H3808 ^NADV done ^H6213 ^W-VQQ3MS , nor his fathers ^H1 \' fathers ^H1 ; he shall scatter ^H967 among them the prey ^H961 , and spoil ^H7998 , and riches ^H7399 : yea , and he shall forecast ^H2803 his devices ^H4284 against ^H5921 ^W-PREP the strongholds ^H4013 , even for ^H5704 ^W-PREP a time ^H6256 ^NMS .

25 And he shall stir up ^H5782 his power ^H3581 ^CMS-3MS and his courage ^H3824 against ^H5921 ^PREP the king ^H4428 ^NMS of the south ^H5045 ^D-NMS with a great ^H1419 ^AMS army ^H2428 ; and the king ^H4428 ^NMS of the south ^H5045 ^D-NMS shall be stirred up ^H1624 to battle ^H4421 with a very ^H5704 ^PREP great ^H1419 ^AMS and mighty ^H6099 army ^H2428 ; but he shall not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR stand ^H5975 ^VQY3MS : for ^H3588 ^CONJ they shall forecast ^H2803 devices ^H4284 against ^H5921 ^PREP him .

26 Yea , they that feed ^H398 of the portion of his meat ^H6598 shall destroy ^H7665 him , and his army ^H2428 shall overflow ^H7857 : and many ^H7227 ^AMP shall fall down ^H5307 slain ^H2491 ^NMP .

27 And both ^H8147 these kings ^H4428 \' hearts ^H3824 shall be to do mischief ^H4827 , and they shall speak ^H1696 ^VPY3MP lies ^H3577 at ^H5921 ^W-PREP one ^H259 ^MMS table ^H7979 ; but it shall not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR prosper ^H6743 : for ^H3588 ^CONJ yet ^H5750 ^ADV the end ^H7093 ^RMS shall be at the time appointed ^H4150 .

28 Then shall he return ^H7725 into his land ^H776 with great ^H1419 ^AMS riches ^H7399 ; and his heart ^H3824 shall be against ^H5921 ^PREP the holy ^H6944 covenant ^H1285 ^NFS ; and he shall do ^H6213 ^W-VQQ3MS exploits , and return ^H7725 ^W-VQQ3MS to his own land ^H776 .

29 At the time appointed ^H4150 he shall return ^H7725 ^VQY3MS , and come ^H935 toward the south ^H5045 ; but it shall not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR be ^H1961 as the former ^H7223 , or as the latter ^H314 .

30 For the ships ^H6716 of Chittim ^H3794 ^W-EMS shall come ^H935 against him : therefore he shall be grieved ^H3512 , and return ^H7725 ^W-VQQ3MS , and have indignation ^H2194 against ^H5921 ^PREP the holy ^H6944 covenant ^H1285 : so shall he do ^H6213 ^W-VQQ3MS ; he shall even return ^H7725 ^W-VQQ3MS , and have intelligence ^H995 with ^H5921 ^PREP them that forsake ^H5800 the holy ^H6944 covenant ^H1285 ^NFS .

31 And arms ^H2220 shall stand ^H5975 on his part ^H4480 ^M-PREP-3MS , and they shall pollute ^H2490 the sanctuary ^H4720 of strength ^H4581 , and shall take away ^H5493 the daily ^H8548 sacrifice , and they shall place ^H5414 the abomination ^H8251 that maketh desolate ^H8074 .

32 And such as do wickedly against ^H7561 the covenant ^H1285 ^CFS shall he corrupt ^H2610 by flatteries ^H2514 : but the people ^H5971 that do know ^H3045 ^VQPMS their God ^H430 ^CMP-3MS shall be strong ^H2388 , and do ^H6213 exploits .

33 And they that understand ^H7919 among the people ^H5971 ^NMS shall instruct ^H995 ^VQY3MP many ^H7227 : yet they shall fall ^H3782 by the sword ^H2719 , and by flame ^H3852 , by captivity ^H7628 , and by spoil ^H961 , many days ^H3117 ^NMP .

34 Now when they shall fall ^H3782 , they shall be helped ^H5826 with a little ^H4592 help ^H5828 ^NMS : but many ^H7227 ^AMP shall cleave ^H3867 to ^H5921 ^PREP-3MP them with flatteries ^H2519 .

35 And some of ^H4480 ^W-PREP them of understanding ^H7919 shall fall ^H3782 , to try ^H6884 them , and to purge ^H1305 , and to make them white ^H3835 , even to ^H5704 ^PREP the time ^H6256 ^NMS of the end ^H7093 ^RMS : because ^H3588 ^CONJ it is yet ^H5750 ^ADV for a time appointed ^H4150 .

36 And the king ^H4428 ^D-NMS shall do ^H6213 ^W-VQQ3MS according to his will ^H7522 ; and he shall exalt himself ^H7311 , and magnify himself ^H1431 above ^H5921 ^PREP every ^H3605 ^NMS god ^H410 ^EDS , and shall speak ^H1696 ^VPY3MS marvelous things ^H6381 ^VNPFP against ^H5921 ^PREP the God ^H410 ^EDS of gods ^H410 ^NMP , and shall prosper ^H6743 till ^H5704 ^PREP the indignation ^H2195 be accomplished ^H3615 ^VQQ3MS : for ^H3588 ^CONJ that that is determined ^H2782 shall be done ^H6213 ^W-VQQ3MS .

37 Neither shall he regard ^H5921 ^PREP the God ^H430 ^CDP of his fathers ^H1 , nor the desire ^H2532 of women ^H802 ^GFP , nor regard any ^H3605 ^NMS god ^H433 ^NAME-4MS : for ^H3588 ^CONJ he shall magnify himself ^H1431 above ^H5921 ^PREP all ^H3605 ^NMS .

38 But in ^H5921 ^PREP his estate ^H3653 shall he honor ^H3513 the God ^H433 of forces ^H4581 : and a god ^H433 whom ^H834 ^RPRO his fathers ^H1 knew ^H3045 not ^H3808 ^NADV shall he honor ^H3513 with gold ^H2091 , and silver ^H3701 , and with precious ^H3368 stones ^H68 , and pleasant things ^H2530 .

39 Thus shall he do ^H6213 ^W-VQQ3MS in the most strong holds ^H4013 with ^H5973 ^PREP a strange ^H5236 god ^H433 ^NAME-4MS , whom ^H834 ^RPRO he shall acknowledge ^H5234 and increase ^H7235 with glory ^H3519 : and he shall cause them to rule ^H4910 over many ^H7227 , and shall divide ^H2505 ^VPY3MS the land ^H127 for gain ^H4242 .

40 And at the time ^H6256 of the end ^H7093 ^RMS shall the king ^H4428 ^NMS of the south ^H5045 ^D-NMS push ^H5055 at ^H5973 ^PREP-3MS him : and the king ^H4428 ^NMS of the north ^H6828 shall come against him like a whirlwind ^H8175 , with chariots ^H7393 , and with horsemen ^H6571 , and with many ^H7227 ^AFP ships ^H591 ; and he shall enter ^H935 into the countries ^H776 , and shall overflow ^H7857 and pass over ^H5674 .

41 He shall enter ^H935 also into the glorious ^H6643 land ^H776 ^B-GFS , and many ^H7227 countries shall be overthrown ^H3782 : but these ^H428 ^W-PMP shall escape ^H4422 out of his hand ^H3027 ^M-CFS-3MS , even Edom ^H123 , and Moab ^H4124 , and the chief ^H7225 of the children ^H1121 of Ammon ^H5983 .

42 He shall stretch forth ^H7971 his hand ^H3027 ^CFS-3MS also upon the countries ^H776 : and the land ^H776 ^W-NFS of Egypt ^H4714 ^EFS shall not ^H3808 ^NADV escape ^H6413 .

43 But he shall have power ^H4910 ^W-VQQ3MS over the treasures ^H4362 of gold ^H2091 and of silver ^H3701 , and over all ^H3605 the precious things ^H2530 of Egypt ^H4714 : and the Libyans ^H3864 and the Ethiopians ^H3569 shall be at his steps ^H4703 .

44 But tidings ^H8052 out of the east ^H4217 and out of the north ^H6828 shall trouble ^H926 him : therefore he shall go forth ^H3318 with great ^H1419 fury ^H2534 to destroy ^H8045 , and utterly to make away ^H2763 many ^H7227 ^AMP .

45 And he shall plant ^H5193 the tabernacles ^H168 of his palace ^H643 between ^H996 ^PREP the seas ^H3220 ^NMP in the glorious ^H6643 holy ^H6944 mountain ^H2022 ; yet he shall come ^H935 to ^H5704 ^PREP his end ^H7093 , and none ^H369 ^W-NPAR shall help ^H5826 him .
