Psalms 40:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. I WAITED patiently and expectantly for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry.
2 He drew me up out of a horrible pit a pit of tumult and of destruction, out of the miry clay (froth and slime), and set my feet upon a rock, steadying my steps and establishing my goings.
3 And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many shall see and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord. Ps. 5:11.
4 Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who makes the Lord his refuge and trust, and turns not to the proud or to followers of false gods.
5 Many, O Lord my God, are the wonderful works which You have done, and Your thoughts toward us; no one can compare with You! If I should declare and speak of them, they are too many to be numbered.
6 Sacrifice and offering You do not desire, nor have You delight in them; You have given me the capacity to hear and obey Your law, a more valuable service than burnt offerings and sin offerings which You do not require.
7 Then said I, Behold, I come; in the volume of the book it is written of me;
8 I delight to do Your will, O my God; yes, Your law is within my heart. Heb. 10:5-9.
9 I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great assembly tidings of uprightness and right standing with God. Behold, I have not restrained my lips, as You know, O Lord.
10 I have not concealed Your righteousness within my heart; I have proclaimed Your faithfulness and Your salvation. I have not hid away Your steadfast love and Your truth from the great assembly. Acts 20:20, 27.
11 Withhold not Your tender mercy from me, O Lord; let Your loving-kindness and Your truth continually preserve me!
12 For innumerable evils have compassed me about; my iniquities have taken such hold on me that I am not able to look up. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart has failed me and forsaken me.
13 Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me; O Lord, make haste to help me!
14 Let them be put to shame and confounded together who seek and require my life to destroy it; let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor who wish me evil and delight in my hurt!
15 Let them be desolate by reason of their shame who say to me, Aha, aha!
16 Let all those that seek and require You rejoice and be glad in You; let such as love Your salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified!
17 As for me I am poor and needy, yet the Lord takes thought and plans for me. You are my Help and my Deliverer. O my God, do not tarry! Ps. 70:1-5; I Pet. 5:7.

4 Blessed H835 is that man H1397 that H834 RPRO maketh H7760 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS his trust H4009 CMS-3MS , and respecteth H6437 not H3808 W-NPAR the proud H7295 , nor such as turn aside H7750 to lies H3577 .
5 Many H7227 AFP , O LORD H3068 EDS my God H430 , are thy wonderful works H6381 which thou H859 PPRO-2MS hast done H6213 VQQ2MS , and thy thoughts H4284 which are to H413 usward : they cannot H369 NPAR be reckoned up in order H6186 unto thee H413 PREP-2MS : if I would declare H5046 and speak H1696 of them , they are more H6105 than can be numbered H5608 .
6 Sacrifice H2077 NMS and offering H4503 thou didst not H3808 UNKN desire H2654 VQQ2MS ; mine ears H241 hast thou opened H3738 : burnt offering H5930 NFS and sin offering H2401 hast thou not H3808 NPAR required H7592 .
7 Then H227 ADV said H559 VQQ1MS I , Lo H2009 IJEC , I come H935 : in the volume H4039 of the book H5612 CMS it is written H3789 of H5921 me ,
8 I delight H2654 to do H6213 thy will H7522 , O my God H430 : yea , thy law H8451 is within H8432 B-NMS my heart H4578 .
9 I have preached H1319 righteousness H6664 NMS in the great H7227 AMS congregation H6951 : lo H2009 IJEC , I have not H3808 NADV refrained H3607 my lips H8193 CFD-1MS , O LORD H3068 EDS , thou H859 PPRO-2MS knowest H3045 .
10 I have not H3808 NADV hid H3680 thy righteousness H6666 within H8432 B-NMS my heart H3820 NMS-1MS ; I have declared H559 thy faithfulness H530 and thy salvation H8668 : I have not H3808 NADV concealed H3582 VPQ1MS thy lovingkindness H2617 and thy truth H571 from the great H7227 AMS congregation H6951 .
11 Withhold H3607 not H3808 NADV thou H859 PPRO-2MS thy tender mercies H7356 from H4480 M-PREP-1MS me , O LORD H3068 EDS : let thy lovingkindness H2617 and thy truth H571 continually H8548 preserve H5341 me .
12 For H3588 CONJ innumerable H369 NPAR evils H7451 have compassed me about H661 : mine iniquities H5771 have taken hold H5381 upon me , so that I am not H3808 W-NPAR able H3201 to look up H7200 L-VQFC ; they are more H6105 than the hairs H8185 of mine head H7218 CMS-1MS : therefore my heart H3820 faileth H5800 me .
13 Be pleased H7521 , O LORD H3068 EDS , to deliver H5337 me : O LORD H3068 EDS , make haste H2363 to help H5833 me .
14 Let them be ashamed H954 and confounded H2659 together H3162 ADV that seek after H1245 my soul H5315 CFS-1MS to destroy H5595 it ; let them be driven H5472 backward H268 and put to shame H3637 that wish H2655 me evil H7451 .
