John 9:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 And passing by, He saw a man blind from birth.
2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this one or his parents, that he should be born blind?"
3 Jesus answered, "Neither this one sinned nor his parents,_but_ this happened so that the works of God should be revealed in him.
4 "It is necessary for Me to be working the works of the One having sent Me while it is day; night is coming when no one is able to be working.
5 "As long as I am in the world,_I_ am the Light of the world."
6 Having said these things, He spit on the ground and made mud from the saliva and rubbed the mud on the eyes of the blind man.
7 And He said to him, "Be going away; be washing in the pool of Siloam" (which, is interpreted, "Having Been Sent"). So he went away and washed, and he came seeing!
8 Therefore, the neighbors and those seeing him previously that he was blind, were saying, "This is the one sitting and begging, is it not?"
9 Others were saying, "This is he." But others, "He is like him." That one kept saying, "_I_ am he."
10 So they were saying to him, "How were your eyes opened?"
11 That one answered and said, "A Man being called Jesus made mud and rubbed my eyes and said to me, 'Be going away to the pool of Siloam and be washing.' And having gone away and having washed, I received sight!"
12 So they said to him, "Where is that One?" He says, "I do not know."
13 They bring him to the Pharisees, the one formerly blind.
14 Now it was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.
15 So again the Pharisees also were asking him how he received sight. And that one said to them, "He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and I see!"
16 Then some of the Pharisees were saying, "This Man is not from God because He does not keep the Sabbath." Others were saying, "How is a sinful person able to be doing such signs?" And a division was among them.
17 They say to the blind one again, "You, what do you say concerning Him, because He opened your eyes?" So he said, "He is a prophet."
18 Then the Jews did not believe concerning him that he was blind and received sight, until which time they called the parents of him, the one having received sight.
19 And they asked them, saying, "Is this your son, whom you* say that he was born blind? How then does he now see?"
20 So his parents answered them and said, "We know that this is our son and that he was born blind.
21 "But how he now sees, we do not know, or who opened his eyes, we do not know. He is of age, ask him. He will speak concerning himself."
22 These things his parents said because they were afraid of the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed together that if anyone shall confess Him as the Christ, he should be expelled from the synagogue.
23 For this reason his parents said, "He is of age, ask him."
24 So a second time they called the man who was blind. And they said to him, "Be giving glory to God;_we_ know that this Man is a sinner!"
25 Then that one answered and said, "If He is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I do know, that being blind, now I see!"
26 But they said to him again, "What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?"
27 He answered them, "I told you* already and you* did not hear; why do you* again want to be hearing? You* do not want to become His disciples, do you*?"
28 They insulted him and said, "_You_ are that One's disciple, but_we_ are Moses' disciples!
29 "We know that God has spoken to Moses, but this One-we do not know from where He is."
30 The man answered and said to them, "Indeed, in this is a marvelous thing, that_you*_ do not know from where He is-and He opened my eyes!
31 "But we know that God does not hear sinners,_but_ if anyone is God-fearing or, devout and is doing His will, this one He hears.
32 "From the age fig., Since the beginning of time it was not heard that anyone opened the eyes of one having been born blind.
33 "If this One were not from God, He would not be able to be doing anything."
34 They answered and said to him, "_You_ were totally born in sins, and_you_ are teaching us!" And they cast him outside.
35 Jesus heard that they cast him outside. And having found him, He said to him, "Do_you_ believe or, trust in the Son of God?"
36 That one answered and said, "And who is He, Lord, so that I should believe in Him?"
37 And Jesus said to him, "You have both seen Him and the One speaking with you-that One is He."
38 And he said, "I believe, Lord!" And he prostrated himself in worship before Him.
39 And Jesus said, "For judgment_I_ came into this world, so that the ones not seeing shall be seeing, and the ones seeing shall become blind."
40 And those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things, and they said to Him, "We are not also blind, are we?"
41 Jesus said to them, "If you* were blind, you* would not have sin, but now you* say, 'We see.' Therefore, your* sin remains."

2 And G2532 CONJ his G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM asked G2065 V-AAI-3P him G846 P-GSM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , Master G4461 HEB , who G5101 I-NSM did sin G264 V-2AAI-3S , this man G3778 D-NSM , or G2228 PRT his G3588 T-NPM parents G1118 N-NPM , that G2443 CONJ he was born G1080 V-APS-3S blind G5185 A-NSM
3 Jesus G2424 N-NSM answered G611 V-ADI-3S , Neither G3777 CONJ hath this man G3778 D-NSM sinned G264 V-2AAI-3S , nor G3777 CONJ his G3588 T-NPM parents G1118 N-NPM : but G235 CONJ that G2443 CONJ the G3588 T-NPN works G2041 N-NPN of God G2316 N-GSM should be made manifest G5319 V-APS-3S in G1722 PREP him G846 P-DSM .
4 I G1691 P-1AS must G1163 V-PQI-3S work G2038 V-PNN the G3588 T-APN works G2041 N-APN of G3588 T-GSM him that sent G3992 V-AAP-GSM me G3165 P-1AS , while G2193 CONJ it is G2076 V-PXI-3S day G2250 N-NSF : the night G3571 N-NSF cometh G2064 V-PNI-3S , when G3753 ADV no man G3762 A-NSM can G1410 V-PNI-3S work G2038 V-PNN .
5 As long as G3752 CONJ I am G5600 V-PXS-1S in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSM world G2889 N-DSM , I am G1510 V-PXI-1S the light G5457 N-NSN of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM world G2889 N-GSM .
6 When he had thus G5023 D-APN spoken G2036 V-2AAP-NSM , he spat G4429 V-AAI-3S on the ground G5476 ADV , and G2532 CONJ made G4160 V-AAI-3S clay G4081 N-ASM of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GSN spittle G4427 N-GSN , and G2532 CONJ he anointed G2025 V-AAI-3S the G3588 T-APM eyes G3788 N-APM of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM blind man G5185 A-GSM with the G3588 T-ASM clay G4081 N-ASM ,
7 And G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Go G5217 V-PAM-2S , wash G3538 V-AMM-2S in G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF pool G2861 N-ASF of Siloam G4611 N-PRI , ( R-NSN which G3739 R-NSN is by interpretation G2059 V-PPI-3S , Sent G649 V-RPP-NSM . ) He went his way G565 V-2AAI-3S therefore G3767 CONJ , and G2532 CONJ washed G3538 V-AMI-3S , and G2532 CONJ came G2064 V-2AAI-3S seeing G991 V-PAP-NSM .
8 The G3588 T-NPM neighbors G1069 N-NPM therefore G3767 CONJ , and G2532 CONJ they G3588 T-NPM which G3588 T-NPM before G4386 A-ASN had seen G2334 V-PAP-NPM him G846 P-ASM that G3754 CONJ he was G2258 V-IXI-3S blind G5185 A-NSM , said G3004 V-IAI-3P , Is G2076 V-PXI-3S not G3756 PRT-N this G3588 T-NSM he that sat G2521 V-PNP-NSM and G2532 CONJ begged G4319 V-PAP-NSM ?
9 Some G243 A-NPM said G3004 V-IAI-3P , This G3778 D-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S he G1161 CONJ : others G243 A-NPM said , He is G2076 V-PXI-3S like G3664 A-NSM him G846 P-DSM : but he G1565 D-NSM said G3004 V-IAI-3S , I G1473 P-1NS am G1510 V-PXI-1S he .
10 Therefore G3767 CONJ said G3004 V-IAI-3P they unto him G846 P-DSM , How G4459 ADV-I were thine G3588 T-NPM eyes G3788 N-NPM opened G455 V-API-3P ?
11 He G1565 D-NSM answered G611 V-ADI-3S and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , A man G444 N-NSM that is called G3004 V-PPP-NSM Jesus G2424 N-NSM made G4160 V-AAI-3S clay G4081 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ anointed G2025 V-AAI-3S mine G3588 T-APM eyes G3788 N-APM , and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto me G3427 P-1DS , Go G5217 V-PAM-2S to G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF pool G2861 N-ASF of Siloam G4611 N-PRI , and G2532 CONJ wash G3538 V-AMM-2S : and G1161 CONJ I went G565 V-2AAP-NSM and G2532 CONJ washed G3538 V-AMP-NSM , and G2532 CONJ I received sight G308 V-AAI-1S .
12 Then G3767 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3P they unto him G846 P-DSM , Where G4226 PRT-I is G2076 V-PXI-3S he G1565 D-NSM ? He said G3004 V-PAI-3S , I know G1492 V-RAI-1S not G3756 PRT-N .
13 They brought G71 V-PAI-3P to G4314 PREP the G3588 T-APM Pharisees G5330 N-APM him G3588 T-ASM that aforetime G4218 PRT was blind G5185 A-ASM .
14 And G1161 CONJ it was G2258 V-IXI-3S the sabbath day G4521 N-NSN when G3753 ADV Jesus G2424 N-NSM made G4160 V-AAI-3S the G3588 T-ASM clay G4081 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ opened G455 V-AAI-3S his G3588 T-APM eyes G3788 N-APM .
15 Then G3767 CONJ again G3825 ADV the G3588 T-NPM Pharisees G5330 N-NPM also G2532 CONJ asked G2065 V-IAI-3P him G846 P-ASM how G4459 ADV-I he had received his sight G308 V-AAI-3S . He G3588 T-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , He put G2007 V-AAI-3S clay G4081 N-ASM upon G1909 PREP mine G3588 T-APM eyes G3788 N-APM , and G2532 CONJ I washed G3538 V-AMI-1S , and G2532 CONJ do see G991 V-PAI-1S .
16 Therefore G3767 CONJ said G3004 V-IAI-3P some G5100 X-NPM of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GPM Pharisees G5330 N-GPM , This G3588 T-NSM man G444 N-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S not G3756 PRT-N of G3588 T-GSM God G2316 N-GSM , because G3754 CONJ he keepeth G5083 V-PAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N the G3588 T-ASN sabbath day G4521 N-ASN . Others G243 A-NPM said G3004 V-IAI-3P , How G4459 ADV-I can G1410 V-PNI-3S a man G444 N-NSM that is a sinner G268 A-NSM do G4160 V-PAN such G5108 D-APN miracles G4592 N-APN ? And G2532 CONJ there was G2258 V-IXI-3S a division G4978 N-NSN among G1722 PREP them G846 P-DPM .
17 They say G3004 V-PAI-3P unto the G3588 T-DSM blind man G5185 A-DSM again G3825 ADV , What G5101 I-ASN sayest G3004 V-PAI-2S thou G4771 P-2NS of G4012 PREP him G846 P-GSM , that G3754 CONJ he hath opened G455 V-AAI-3S thine G3588 T-APM eyes G3788 N-APM ? He G3588 T-APM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , He is G2076 V-PXI-3S a prophet G4396 N-NSM .
18 But G3767 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM Jews G2453 A-NPM did not G3756 PRT-N believe G4100 V-AAI-3P concerning G4012 PREP him G846 P-GSM , that G3754 CONJ he had been G2258 V-IXI-3S blind G5185 A-NSM , and G2532 CONJ received his sight G308 V-AAI-3S , until G2193 CONJ they called G5455 V-AAI-3P the G3588 T-APM parents G1118 N-APM of G3588 T-GSM him G3588 T-GSM that had received his sight G308 V-AAP-GSM .
19 And G2532 CONJ they asked G2065 V-AAI-3P them G846 P-APM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , Is G2076 V-PXI-3S this G3778 D-NSM your G3588 T-NSM son G5207 N-NSM , who G3739 R-ASM ye G5210 P-2NP say G3004 V-PAI-2P was G3754 CONJ born G1080 V-API-3S blind G5185 A-NSM ? how G4459 ADV-I then G3767 CONJ doth he now G737 ADV see G991 V-PAI-3S ?
20 His G3588 T-NPM parents G1118 N-NPM answered G611 V-ADI-3P them G846 P-GSM and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3P , We know G1492 V-RAI-1P that G3754 CONJ this G3778 D-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S our G3588 T-NSM son G5207 N-NSM , and G2532 CONJ that G3754 CONJ he was born G1080 V-API-3S blind G5185 A-NSM :
21 But G1161 CONJ by what means G4459 ADV-I he now G3568 ADV seeth G991 V-PAI-3S , we know G1492 V-RAI-1P not G3756 PRT-N ; or G2228 PRT who G5101 I-NSM hath opened G455 V-AAI-3S his G3588 T-APM eyes G3788 N-APM , we G2249 P-1NP know G1492 V-RAI-1P not G3756 PRT-N : he G846 P-NSM is of age G2192 V-PAI-3S ; ask G2065 V-AAM-2P him G846 P-ASM : he G846 P-NSM shall speak G2980 V-FAI-3S for G4012 PREP himself G848 .
22 These G5023 D-APN words spake G2036 V-2AAI-3P his G3588 T-NPM parents G1118 N-NPM , because G3754 CONJ they feared G5399 V-INI-3P the G3588 T-APM Jews G2453 A-APM : for G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM Jews G2453 A-NPM had agreed G4934 V-LMI-3P already G2235 ADV , that G2443 CONJ if G1437 COND any man G5100 X-NSM did confess G3670 V-AAS-3S that he G846 P-ASM was Christ G5547 N-ASM , he should be G1096 V-2ADS-3S put out of the synagogue G656 A-NSM .
23 Therefore G1223 PREP said G2036 V-2AAI-3P his G3588 T-NPM parents G1118 N-NPM , He is of age G2192 V-PAI-3S ; ask G2065 V-AAM-2P him G846 P-ASM .
24 Then G3767 CONJ again G1208 A-GSN called G5455 V-AAI-3P they G3588 T-ASM the G3588 T-ASM man G444 N-ASM that G3739 R-NSM was G2258 V-IXI-3S blind G5185 A-NSM , and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM , Give G1325 V-2AAM-2S God G2316 N-DSM the praise G1391 N-ASF : we G2249 P-1NP know G1492 V-RAI-1P that G3754 CONJ this G3588 T-NSM man G444 N-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S a sinner G268 A-NSM .
25 He G1565 D-NSM answered G611 V-ADI-3S and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Whether G1487 COND he be G2076 V-PXI-3S a sinner G268 A-NSM or no , I know G1492 V-RAI-1S not G3756 PRT-N : one thing G1520 A-ASN I know G1492 V-RAI-1S , that G3754 CONJ , whereas I was G5607 V-PXP-NSM blind G5185 A-NSM , now G737 ADV I see G991 V-PAI-1S .
26 Then G1161 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3P they to him G846 P-DSM again G3825 ADV , What G5101 I-ASN did G4160 V-AAI-3S he to thee G4671 P-2DS ? how G4459 ADV-I opened G455 V-AAI-3S he G3588 T-APM thine G3588 T-APM eyes G3788 N-APM ?
27 He answered G611 V-ADI-3S them G846 P-DPM , I have told G2036 V-2AAI-1S you G5213 P-2DP already G2235 ADV , and G2532 CONJ ye did not G3756 PRT-N hear G191 V-AAI-2P : wherefore G5101 I-ASN would G2309 V-PAI-2P ye hear G191 V-PAN it again G3825 ADV ? will V-PAI-2P ye G5210 P-2NP also G2532 CONJ be G1096 V-2ADN his G846 P-GSM disciples G3101 N-NPM ?
28 Then G3767 they reviled G3058 V-AAI-3P him G846 P-ASM , and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3P , Thou G4771 P-2NS art G1488 V-PXI-2S his G1565 D-GSM disciple G3101 N-NSM ; but G1161 CONJ we G2249 P-1NP are G2070 V-PXI-1P Moses G3475 N-GSM \' disciples G3101 N-NPM .
29 We G2249 P-1NP know G1492 V-RAI-1P that G3588 T-NSM God G2316 N-NSM spake G2980 V-RAI-3S unto Moses G3475 N-DSM : as for CONJ this G1161 CONJ fellow , we know G1492 V-RAI-1P not G3756 PRT-N from whence G4159 ADV-I he is G2076 V-PXI-3S .
30 The G3588 T-NSM man G444 N-NSM answered G611 V-ADI-3S and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Why G1063 CONJ herein G1722 PREP is G2076 V-PXI-3S a marvelous thing G2298 A-NSN , that G3754 CONJ ye G5210 P-2NP know G1492 V-RAI-2P not G3756 PRT-N from whence G4159 ADV-I he is G2076 V-PXI-3S , and G2532 CONJ yet he hath opened G455 V-AAI-3S mine G3588 T-APM eyes G3788 N-APM .
31 Now G1161 CONJ we know G1492 V-RAI-1P that G3588 T-NSM God G2316 N-NSM heareth G191 V-PAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N sinners G268 A-GPM : but G235 CONJ if G1437 COND any man G5100 X-NSM be G5600 V-PXS-3S a worshiper of God G2318 A-NSM , and G2532 CONJ doeth G4160 V-PAS-3S his G3588 T-ASN will G2307 N-ASN , him G5127 D-GSM he heareth G191 V-PAI-3S .
32 Since the world began G165 N-GSM was it not G3756 PRT-N heard G191 V-API-3S that G3754 CONJ any man G5100 X-NSM opened G455 V-AAI-3S the eyes G3788 N-APM of one that was born G1080 V-RPP-GSM blind G5185 A-GSM .
33 If G1508 this man G3778 D-NSM were G2258 V-IXI-3S not G3756 PRT-N of G3844 PREP God G2316 N-GSM , he could G1410 V-INI-3S do G4160 V-PAN nothing G3762 A-ASN .
34 They answered G611 V-ADI-3P and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM , Thou G4771 P-2NS wast altogether G3650 A-NSM born G1080 V-API-2S in G1722 PREP sins G266 N-DPF , and G2532 CONJ dost thou G4771 P-2NS teach G1321 V-PAI-2S us G2248 P-1AP ? And G2532 CONJ they cast G1544 V-2AAI-3P him G846 P-ASM out G1854 ADV .
35 Jesus G2424 N-NSM heard G191 V-AAI-3S that G3754 CONJ they had cast G1544 V-2AAI-3P him G846 P-ASM out G1854 ADV ; and G2532 CONJ when he had found G2147 V-2AAP-NSM him G846 P-ASM , he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Dost thou G4771 P-2NS believe G4100 V-PAI-2S on G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASM Son G5207 N-ASM of God G2316 N-GSM ?
36 He G1565 D-NSM answered G611 V-ADI-3S and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Who G5101 I-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S he , Lord G2962 N-VSM , that G2443 CONJ I might believe G4100 V-AAS-1S on G1519 PREP him G846 P-ASM ?
37 And G1161 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Thou hast both G2532 CONJ seen G3708 V-RAI-2S him G846 P-ASM , and G2532 CONJ it is G2076 V-PXI-3S he G3588 T-NSM that talketh G2980 V-PAP-NSM with G3326 PREP thee G4675 P-2GS .
38 And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM said G5346 V-IXI-3S , Lord G2962 N-VSM , I believe G4100 V-PAI-1S . And G2532 CONJ he worshiped G4352 V-AAI-3S him G846 P-DSM .
39 And G2532 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , For G1519 PREP judgment G2917 N-ASN I G1473 P-1NS am come G2064 V-2AAI-1S into G1519 PREP this G3588 T-ASM world G2889 N-ASM , that G2443 CONJ they G3588 T-NPM which G3588 T-NPM see G991 V-PAP-NPM not G3361 PRT-N might see G991 V-PAS-3P ; and G2532 CONJ that G3588 T-NPM they which see G991 V-PAP-NPM might be made G1096 V-2ADS-3P blind G5185 A-NPM .
40 And G2532 CONJ some of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GPM Pharisees G5330 N-GPM which were G5607 V-PXP-NPM with G3326 PREP him G846 P-GSM heard G191 V-AAI-3P these words G5023 D-APN and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM , Are G2070 V-PXI-1P we G2249 P-1NP blind G5185 A-NPM also G2532 CONJ ?
41 Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , If G1487 COND ye were G2258 V-IXI-2P blind G5185 A-NPM , ye should have V-IAI-2P no G3756 PRT-N sin G266 N-ASF : but G1161 CONJ now G3568 ADV ye say G3004 V-PAI-2P , We G3588 T-NSF see G991 V-PAI-1P ; therefore G3767 CONJ your G5216 P-2GP sin G266 N-NSF remaineth G3306 V-PAI-3S .
