John 21:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 AFTER THIS, Jesus let Himself be seen and revealed Himself again to the disciples, at the Sea of Tiberias. And He did it in this way:
2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas, called the Twin, and Nathanael from Cana of Galilee, also the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples.
3 Simon Peter said to them, I am going fishing! They said to him, And we are coming with you! So they went out and got into the boat, and throughout that night they caught nothing.
4 Morning was already breaking when Jesus came to the beach and stood there. However, the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.
5 So Jesus said to them, Boys (children), you do not have any meat (fish), do you? Have you caught anything to eat along with your bread? They answered Him, No!
6 And He said to them, Cast the net on the right side of the boat and you will find some. So they cast the net, and now they were not able to haul it in for such a big catch (mass, quantity) of fish was in it.
7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, It is the Lord! Simon Peter, hearing him say that it was the Lord, put (girded) on his upper garment (his fisherman's coat, his outer tunic)--for he was stripped for work--and sprang into the sea.
8 And the other disciples came in the small boat, for they were not far from shore, only some hundred yards away, dragging the net full of fish.
9 When they got out on land (the beach), they saw a fire of coals there and fish lying on it cooking, and bread.
10 Jesus said to them, Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.
11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net to land, full of large fish, 153 of them; and though there were so many of them, the net was not torn.
12 Jesus said to them, Come and have breakfast. But none of the disciples ventured or dared to ask Him, Who are You? because they well knew that it was the Lord.
13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so also with the fish.
14 This was now the third time that Jesus revealed Himself (appeared, was manifest) to the disciples after He had risen from the dead.
15 When they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these others do--with reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion, as one loves the Father? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love You that I have deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend. He said to him, Feed My lambs.
16 Again He said to him the second time, Simon, son of John, do you love Me with reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion, as one loves the Father? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love You that I have a deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend. He said to him, Shepherd (tend) My sheep.
17 He said to him the third time, Simon, son of John, do you love Me with a deep, instinctive, personal affection for Me, as for a close friend? Peter was grieved (was saddened and hurt) that He should ask him the third time, Do you love Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know everything; You know that I love You that I have a deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend. Jesus said to him, Feed My sheep.
18 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, when you were young you girded yourself put on your own belt or girdle and you walked about wherever you pleased to go. But when you grow old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will put a girdle around you and carry you where you do not wish to go.
19 He said this to indicate by what kind of death Peter would glorify God. And after this, He said to him, Follow Me!
20 But Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved, following--the one who also had leaned back on His breast at the supper and had said, Lord, who is it that is going to betray You?
21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, Lord, what about this man?
22 Jesus said to him, If I want him to stay (survive, live) until I come, what is that to you? What concern is it of yours? You follow Me!
23 So word went out among the brethren that this disciple was not going to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not going to die, but, If I want him to stay (survive, live) till I come, what is that to you?
24 It is this same disciple who is bearing witness to these things and who has recorded (written) them; and we well know that his testimony is true.
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did. If they should be all recorded one by one in detail, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain (have room for) the books that would be written.

2 There were G2258 V-IXI-3P together G3674 ADV Simon G4613 N-NSM Peter G4074 N-NSM , and G2532 CONJ Thomas G2381 N-NSM called G3004 V-PPP-NSM Didymus G1324 N-NSM , and G2532 CONJ Nathanael G3482 N-PRI of G575 PREP Cana G2580 N-PRI in Galilee G1056 N-GSF , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM sons of Zebedee G2199 N-GSM , and G2532 CONJ two G1417 A-NUI other G243 A-NPM of G1537 PREP his G3588 T-GPM disciples G3101 N-GPM .
3 Simon G4613 N-NSM Peter G4074 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , I go G5217 V-PAI-1S a fishing G232 V-PAN . They say G3004 V-PAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM , We G2249 P-1NP also G2532 CONJ go G2064 V-PNI-1P with G4862 PREP thee G4671 P-2DS . They went forth G1831 V-2AAI-3P , and G2532 CONJ entered G305 into G1519 PREP a ship G4143 N-ASN immediately G2117 ADV : and G2532 CONJ that G3588 T-DSF night G3571 N-DSF they caught G4084 V-AAI-3P nothing G3762 A-ASN .
4 But G1161 CONJ when the morning G4405 N-GSF was now G2235 ADV come G1096 V-2ADP-GSF , Jesus G2424 N-NSM stood G2476 V-2AAI-3S on G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASM shore G123 N-ASM : but G3305 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM knew G1492 V-LAI-3P not G3756 PRT-N that G3754 CONJ it was G2076 V-PXI-3S Jesus G2424 N-NSM .
5 Then G3767 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Children G3813 N-VPN , have G2192 V-PAI-2P ye any G3387 meat ? They G4371 N-ASN answered G611 V-ADI-3P him G846 P-DSM , No G3756 PRT-N .
6 And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Cast G906 V-2AAM-2P the G3588 T-ASN net G1350 N-ASN on G1519 PREP the G3588 T-APN right G1188 A-APN side G3313 N-APN of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN ship G4143 N-GSN , and G2532 CONJ ye shall find . 7 Therefore G3767 CONJ that G3588 T-NSM disciple G3101 N-NSM whom G3588 T-NSM Jesus G2424 N-NSM loved G25 V-IAI-3S saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto Peter G4074 N-DSM , It is G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSM Lord G2962 N-NSM . Now G3767 CONJ when Simon G4613 N-NSM Peter G4074 N-NSM heard G191 V-AAP-NSM that G3754 CONJ it was G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSM Lord G2962 N-NSM , he girt G1241 V-AMI-3S his G3588 T-ASM fisher\'s coat G1903 N-ASF unto him , ( CONJ for CONJ he was G2258 V-IXI-3S naked G1131 A-NSM , ) and G2532 CONJ did cast G906 V-2AAI-3S himself G1438 F-3ASM into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF sea G2281 N-ASF .
8 And G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM other G243 A-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM came G2064 V-2AAI-3P in a little ship G4142 N-DSN ; ( CONJ for CONJ they were G2258 V-IXI-3P not G3756 PRT-N far G3112 ADV from G575 PREP land G1093 N-GSF , but G235 CONJ as it were G5613 ADV two G575 PREP hundred G1250 A-GPM cubits G4083 N-GPM , ) dragging G4951 V-PAP-NSM the G3588 T-ASN net G1350 N-ASN with fishes G2486 N-GPM .
9 As soon then as ADV they were come G576 V-2AAI-3P to G1519 PREP land G1093 N-ASF , they saw G991 V-PAI-3P a fire of coals G439 N-ASF there G2749 V-PNP-ASF , and G2532 CONJ fish G3795 N-ASN laid thereon G1945 V-PNP-ASN , and G2532 CONJ bread G740 N-ASM .
10 Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Bring G5342 V-AAM-2P of G575 PREP the G3588 T-GPN fish G3795 N-GPN which G3739 R-GPN ye have now G3568 ADV caught G4084 V-AAI-2P .
11 Simon G4613 N-NSM Peter G4074 N-NSM went up G305 V-2AAI-3S , and G2532 CONJ drew G1670 V-AAI-3S the G3588 T-ASN net G1350 N-ASN to G1909 PREP land G1093 N-GSF full G3324 A-ASN of great G3173 A-GPM fishes G2486 N-GPM , a hundred and fifty and three G1540 A-NUI : and G2532 CONJ for all there were G5607 V-PXP-GPM so many G5118 D-GPM , yet was not G3756 PRT-N the G3588 T-NSN net G1350 N-NSN broken G4977 V-API-3S .
12 Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Come G1205 V-XXM-2P and dine G709 V-AAM-2P . And G1161 CONJ none G3762 A-NSM of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM disciples G3101 N-GPM durst G5111 V-IAI-3S ask G1833 V-AAN him G846 P-ASM , Who G5101 I-NSM art G1488 V-PXI-2S thou G4771 P-2NS ? knowing G1492 V-RAP-NPM that G3754 CONJ it was G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSM Lord G2962 N-NSM .
13 Jesus G2424 N-NSM then G3767 CONJ cometh G2064 V-PNI-3S , and G2532 CONJ taketh G2983 V-PAI-3S bread G740 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ giveth G1325 V-PAI-3S them G846 P-DPM , and G2532 CONJ fish G3795 N-ASN likewise G3668 ADV .
14 This G5124 D-NSN is now G2235 ADV the G3588 T-NSM third time G5154 A-ASN that Jesus G2424 N-NSM showed G5319 V-API-3S himself G3588 T-DPM to his G3588 T-DPM disciples G3101 N-DPM , after that he was risen G1453 V-APP-NSM from G1537 PREP the dead G3498 A-GPM .
15 So G3767 CONJ when G3753 ADV they G3588 T-NSM had dined G709 V-AAI-3P , Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S to Simon G4613 N-DSM Peter G4074 N-DSM , Simon G4613 N-VSM , son of Jona G2495 N-GSM , lovest G25 V-PAI-2S thou me G3165 P-1AS more G4119 A-ASN-C than these ? He G5130 D-GPN saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Yea G3483 PRT , Lord G2962 N-VSM ; thou G4771 P-2NS knowest G1492 V-RAI-2S that G3754 CONJ I love G5368 V-PAI-1S thee G4571 P-2AS . 16 He saith G3004 V-PAI-3S to him G846 P-DSM again G3825 ADV the second time G1208 ADV , Simon G4613 N-VSM , son of Jona G2495 N-GSM , lovest G25 V-PAI-2S thou me ? He G3165 P-1AS saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Yea G3483 PRT , Lord G2962 N-VSM ; thou G4771 P-2NS knowest G1492 V-RAI-2S that G3754 CONJ I love G5368 V-PAI-1S thee G4571 P-2AS . 17 He saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM the G3588 T-ASN third time G5154 A-ASN , Simon G4613 N-VSM , son of Jona G2495 N-GSM , lovest G5368 V-PAI-2S thou me G3588 T-NSM ? Peter G4074 N-NSM was grieved G3076 V-API-3S because G3754 CONJ he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM the G3588 T-ASN third time G5154 A-ASN , Lovest G5368 V-PAI-2S thou me G3165 P-1AS ? 18 Verily G281 HEB , verily G281 HEB , I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto thee G4671 P-2DS , When G3753 ADV thou wast G2258 V-IXI-2S young G3501 A-NSM-C , thou girdedst G2224 V-IAI-2S thyself G4572 F-2ASM , and G2532 CONJ walkedst G4043 V-IAI-2S whither G3699 ADV thou wouldest G2309 V-IAI-2S : but G1161 CONJ when G3752 CONJ thou shalt be old G1095 V-AAS-2S , thou shalt stretch forth G1614 V-FAI-2S thy G3588 T-APF hands G5495 N-APF , and G2532 CONJ another G243 A-NSM shall gird G2224 V-FAI-3S thee G4571 P-2AS , and G2532 CONJ carry G5342 V-FAI-3S thee whither G3699 ADV thou wouldest G2309 V-PAI-2S not G3756 PRT-N .
19 This G5124 D-ASN spake G2036 V-2AAI-3S he , signifying G4591 V-PAP-NSM by what G4169 I-DSM death G2288 N-DSM he G3588 T-ASM should glorify G1392 V-FAI-3S God G2316 N-ASM . And G2532 CONJ when he had spoken G2036 V-2AAP-NSM this G5124 D-ASN , he saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Follow G190 V-PAM-2S me G3427 P-1DS .
20 Then G1161 CONJ Peter G4074 N-NSM , turning about G1994 V-2APP-NSM , seeth G991 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-ASM disciple G3101 N-ASM whom G3588 T-NSM Jesus G2424 N-NSM loved G25 V-IAI-3S following G190 V-PAP-ASM ; which G3739 R-NSM also G2532 CONJ leaned G377 V-2AAI-3S on G1909 PREP his G3588 T-ASN breast G4738 N-ASN at G1722 PREP supper G1173 N-DSN , and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Lord G2962 N-VSM , which G5101 I-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S he that betrayeth G3860 V-PAP-NSM thee G4571 P-2AS ?
21 Peter G4074 N-NSM seeing G1492 V-2AAP-NSM him G5126 D-ASM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S to Jesus G2424 N-DSM , Lord G2962 N-VSM , and G1161 CONJ what G5101 I-NSN shall this man G3778 D-NSM do ?
22 Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , If G1437 COND I will G2309 V-PAS-1S that he G846 P-ASM tarry G3306 V-PAN till G2193 CONJ I come G2064 V-PNI-1S , what G5101 I-NSN is that to G4314 PREP thee G4571 P-2AS ? follow G190 V-PAM-2S thou G4771 P-2NS me G3427 P-1DS .
23 Then G3767 CONJ went this saying abroad G1831 V-2AAI-3S among G1519 PREP the G3588 T-APM brethren G80 N-APM , that G3754 CONJ that G3588 T-NSM disciple G3101 N-NSM should not G3756 PRT-N die G599 V-PAI-3S : yet G2532 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N unto him G846 P-DSM , He shall G3754 CONJ not G3756 PRT-N die G599 V-PAI-3S ; but G235 CONJ , If G1437 COND I will G2309 V-PAS-1S that he G846 P-ASM tarry G3306 V-PAN till G2193 CONJ I come G2064 V-PNI-1S , what G5101 I-NSN is that to G4314 PREP thee G4571 P-2AS ?
24 This G3778 D-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSM disciple G3101 N-NSM which testifieth G3140 V-PAP-NSM of G4012 PREP these things G5023 D-APN , and G2532 CONJ wrote G1125 V-AAP-NSM these things G5023 D-APN : and G2532 CONJ we know G1492 V-RAI-1P that G3754 CONJ his G3588 T-NSF testimony G3141 N-NSF is G2076 V-PXI-3S true G227 A-NSF .
25 And G1161 CONJ there are G2076 V-PXI-3S also G2532 CONJ many G4183 A-NPN other things G243 A-NPN which G3588 T-NSM Jesus G2424 N-NSM did G4160 V-AAI-3S , the which G3748 R-NPN , if G1437 COND they should be written G1125 V-PPS-3S every one G2596 PREP , I suppose G3633 V-PNI-1S that G3588 T-ASM even the G3588 T-ASM world G2889 N-ASM itself G846 P-ASM could not G3761 ADV contain G5562 V-AAN the G3588 T-ASM books G975 N-APN that should be written G1125 V-PPP-APN .
