Matthew 18:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 AT THAT time the disciples came up and asked Jesus, Who then is really the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
2 And He called a little child to Himself and put him in the midst of them,
3 And said, Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and become like little children trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving, you can never enter the kingdom of heaven at all.
4 Whoever will humble himself therefore and become like this little child trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 And whoever receives and accepts and welcomes one little child like this for My sake and in My name receives and accepts and welcomes Me.
6 But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in and acknowledge and cleave to Me to stumble and sin that is, who entices him or hinders him in right conduct or thought, it would be better (more expedient and profitable or advantageous) for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be sunk in the depth of the sea.
7 Woe to the world for such temptations to sin and influences to do wrong! It is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the person on whose account or by whom the temptation comes!
8 And if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble and sin, cut it off and throw it away from you; it is better (more profitable and wholesome) for you to enter life maimed or lame than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into everlasting fire.
9 And if your eye causes you to stumble and sin, pluck it out and throw it away from you; it is better (more profitable and wholesome) for you to enter life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the hell (Gehenna) of fire.
10 Beware that you do not despise or feel scornful toward or think little of one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always are in the presence of and look upon the face of My Father Who is in heaven.
11 For the Son of man came to save from the penalty of eternal death that which was lost.
12 What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray and gets lost, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountain and go in search of the one that is lost?
13 And if it should be that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not get lost.
14 Just so it is not the will of My Father Who is in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost and perish.
15 If your brother wrongs you, go and show him his fault, between you and him privately. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother.
16 But if he does not listen, take along with you one or two others, so that every word may be confirmed and upheld by the testimony of two or three witnesses.
17 If he pays no attention to them refusing to listen and obey, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a pagan and a tax collector. Lev. 19:17; Deut. 19:15.
18 Truly I tell you, whatever you forbid and declare to be improper and unlawful on earth must be what is already forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit and declare proper and lawful on earth must be what is already permitted in heaven.
19 Again I tell you, if two of you on earth agree (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever anything and everything they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven.
20 For wherever two or three are gathered (drawn together as My followers) in (into) My name, there I AM in the midst of them. Exod. 3:14.
21 Then Peter came up to Him and said, Lord, how many times may my brother sin against me and I forgive him and let it go? As many as up to seven times?
22 Jesus answered him, I tell you, not up to seven times, but seventy times seven! Gen. 4:24.
23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a human king who wished to settle accounts with his attendants.
24 When he began the accounting, one was brought to him who owed him 10,000 talents probably about$10,000,000,
25 And because he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and his children and everything that he possessed, and payment to be made.
26 So the attendant fell on his knees, begging him, Have patience with me and I will pay you everything.
27 And his master's heart was moved with compassion, and he released him and forgave him cancelling the debt.
28 But that same attendant, as he went out, found one of his fellow attendants who owed him a hundred denarii about twenty dollars; and he caught him by the throat and said, Pay what you owe!
29 So his fellow attendant fell down and begged him earnestly, Give me time, and I will pay you all!
30 But he was unwilling, and he went out and had him put in prison till he should pay the debt.
31 When his fellow attendants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed, and they went and told everything that had taken place to their master.
32 Then his master called him and said to him, You contemptible and wicked attendant! I forgave and cancelled all that great debt of yours because you begged me to.
33 And should you not have had pity and mercy on your fellow attendant, as I had pity and mercy on you?
34 And in wrath his master turned him over to the torturers (the jailers), till he should pay all that he owed.
35 So also My heavenly Father will deal with every one of you if you do not freely forgive your brother from your heart his offenses.

3 And G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Verily G281 HEB I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , Except G3362 ye be converted G4762 V-2APS-2P , and G2532 CONJ become G1096 V-2ADS-2P as G5613 ADV little children G3813 N-APN , ye shall not G3364 enter G1525 V-2AAS-2P into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF kingdom G932 N-ASF of heaven G3772 N-GPM .
4 Whosoever G3748 R-NSM therefore G3767 CONJ shall humble G5013 V-FAI-3S himself G1438 F-3ASM as G5613 ADV this G3588 T-NSN little child G3813 N-NSN , the same G3778 D-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S greatest G3187 A-NSM-C in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF kingdom G932 N-DSF of heaven G3772 N-GPM .
5 And G2532 CONJ whoso G3739 R-NSM shall receive G1209 V-ADS-3S one G1520 A-ASN such G5108 D-ASN little child G3813 N-ASN in G1909 PREP my G3588 T-DSN name G3686 N-DSN receiveth G1209 V-PNI-3S me G1691 P-1AS .
6 But G1161 CONJ whoso G3739 R-NSM shall offend G4624 V-AAS-3S one G1520 A-ASM of G3588 T-GPM these G3588 T-GPM little ones G3398 A-GPM which believe G4100 V-PAP-GPM in G1519 PREP me G1691 P-1AS , it were better G4851 V-PAI-3S for him G846 P-DSM that G2443 CONJ a millstone G3458 N-NSM were hanged G2910 V-APS-3S about G1909 his G3588 T-ASM neck G5137 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ that he were drowned G2670 V-APS-3S in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSN depth G3989 N-DSN of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF sea G2281 N-GSF .
7 Woe G3759 INJ unto the G3588 T-DSM world G2889 N-DSM because of offenses G4625 N-GPN ! for G1063 CONJ it must needs be V-PXI-3S that offenses G4625 N-APN come G2064 V-2AAN ; but G4133 ADV woe G3759 INJ to that G3588 T-DSM man G444 N-DSM by G1223 PREP whom G3739 R-GSM the G3588 T-NSN offense G4625 N-NSN cometh G2064 V-PNI-3S !
8 Wherefore G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND thy G3588 T-NSF hand G5495 N-NSF or G2228 PRT thy G3588 T-NSM foot G4228 N-NSM offend G4624 V-PAI-3S thee G4571 P-2AS , cut them off G1581 V-AAM-2S , and G2532 CONJ cast G906 V-2AAM-2S them from G575 PREP thee G4675 P-2GS : it is G2076 V-PXI-3S better G2570 A-NSN for thee G4671 P-2DS to enter G1525 V-2AAN into G1519 PREP life G2222 N-ASF halt G5560 A-ASM or G2228 PRT maimed G2948 A-ASM , rather than G2228 PRT having G2192 V-PAP-NPN two G1417 A-NUI hands G5495 N-APF or G2228 PRT two G1417 A-NUI feet G4228 N-APM to be cast G906 V-APN into G1519 PREP everlasting G166 A-ASN fire G4442 N-ASN .
9 And G2532 CONJ if G1487 COND thine G3588 T-NSM eye G3788 N-NSM offend G4624 V-PAI-3S thee G4571 P-2AS , pluck it out G1807 V-2AAM-2S , and G2532 CONJ cast G906 V-2AAM-2S it from G575 PREP thee G4675 P-2GS : it is G2076 V-PXI-3S better G2570 A-NSN for thee G4671 P-2DS to enter G1525 V-2AAN into G1519 PREP life G2222 N-ASF with one eye G3442 A-ASM , rather G2228 PRT than having G2192 V-PAP-NPN two G1417 A-NUI eyes G3788 N-APM to be cast G906 V-APN into G1519 PREP hell G1067 N-ASF fire G4442 N-GSN .
10 Take heed G3708 V-PAM-2P that ye despise G2706 V-AAS-2P not G3361 PRT-N one G1520 A-GSN of G3588 T-GPM these G3588 T-GPM little ones G3398 A-GPM ; for G1063 CONJ I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , That G3754 CONJ in G1722 PREP heaven G3772 N-DPM their G3588 T-NPM angels G32 N-NPM do always G1223 PREP behold G991 V-PAI-3P the G3588 T-ASN face G4383 N-ASN of G3588 T-GSM my G3588 T-GSM Father G3962 N-GSM which G3588 T-GSM is in G1722 PREP heaven G3772 N-DPM .
11 For G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM Son G5207 N-NSM of man G444 N-GSM is come G2064 V-2AAI-3S to save G4982 V-AAN that which was lost G622 V-2RAP-ASN .
12 How G5101 I-ASN think G1380 V-PAI-3S ye G5213 P-2DP ? if G1437 COND a G5100 X-DSM man G444 N-DSM have G1096 V-2ADS-3S a hundred G1540 A-NUI sheep G4263 N-NPN , and G2532 CONJ one G1520 A-NSN of G1537 PREP them G846 P-GPN be gone astray G4105 V-APS-3S , doth he not G3780 PRT-I leave G863 V-2AAP-NSM the G3588 T-APN ninety and nine G1768 A-NUI , and goeth G4198 V-AOP-NSM into G1909 PREP the G3588 T-APN mountains G3735 N-APN , and G2532 CONJ seeketh G2212 V-PAI-3S that which is gone astray G4105 V-PPP-ASN ?
13 And G2532 CONJ if G1437 COND so be G1096 V-2ADS-3S that he find G2147 V-2AAN it G846 P-ASN , verily G281 HEB I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , he G3754 CONJ rejoiceth G5463 V-PAI-3S more G3123 ADV of G1909 PREP that G846 P-DSN sheep , than G2228 PRT of G1909 PREP the G3588 T-DPN ninety and nine G1768 A-NUI which went not astray G4105 V-RPP-DPN .
14 Even so G3779 ADV it is G2076 V-PXI-3S not G3756 PRT-N the will G2307 N-NSN of G1715 PREP your G3588 T-GSM Father G3962 N-GSM which G3588 T-GSM is in G1722 PREP heaven G3772 N-DPM , that G2443 CONJ one G1520 A-NSM of G3588 T-GPM these G3588 T-GPM little ones G3398 A-GPM should perish G622 V-2AMS-3S .
15 Moreover G1161 CONJ if G1437 COND thy G3588 T-NSM brother G80 N-NSM shall trespass G264 V-AAS-3S against G1519 PREP thee G4571 P-2AS , go G5217 V-PAM-2S and G2532 CONJ tell him his fault G1651 V-AAM-2S between G3342 ADV thee G4675 P-2GS and G2532 CONJ him G846 P-ASM alone G3441 A-GSM : if G1437 COND he shall hear G191 V-AAS-3S thee G4675 P-2GS , thou hast gained G2770 V-AAI-2S thy G3588 T-ASM brother G80 N-ASM .
16 But G1161 CONJ if G1437 COND he will not G3361 PRT-N hear G191 V-AAS-3S thee , then take G3880 V-2AAM-2S with G3326 PREP thee G4675 P-2GS one G1520 A-ASM or G2228 PRT two G1417 A-NUI more G2089 ADV , that G2243 in G1909 PREP the mouth G4720 of two G1417 A-NUI or G2228 PRT three G5140 A-GPM witnesses G3144 N-GPM every G3956 A-NSN word G4487 N-NSN may be established G2476 V-APS-3S .
17 And G1161 CONJ if G1437 COND he shall neglect to hear G3878 V-AAS-3S them G846 P-GPM , tell G2036 V-2AAM-2S it unto the G3588 T-DSF church G1577 N-DSF : but G1161 CONJ if G1437 COND he neglect to hear G3878 V-AAS-3S the G3588 T-GSF church G1577 N-GSF , let him be G2077 V-PXM-3S unto thee G4671 P-2DS as G5618 ADV a heathen man G1482 A-NSM and G2532 CONJ a publican G5057 N-NSM .
18 Verily G281 HEB I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , Whatsoever G3745 K-APN ye shall bind G1210 V-AAS-2P on G1909 PREP earth G1093 N-GSF shall be G2071 V-FXI-3S bound G1210 V-RPP-NPN in G1722 PREP heaven G3772 N-DSM : and G2532 CONJ whatsoever G3745 K-APN ye shall loose G3089 V-AAS-2P on G1909 PREP earth G1093 N-GSF shall be G2071 V-FXI-3S loosed G3089 V-RPP-NPN in G1722 PREP heaven G3772 N-DSM .
19 Again G3825 ADV I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , That G3754 CONJ if G1437 COND two G1417 A-NUI of you G5216 P-2GP shall agree G4856 V-AAS-3P on G1909 PREP earth G1093 N-GSF as touching G4012 PREP any G3956 A-GSN thing G4229 N-GSN that R-GSN they shall ask G154 V-AMS-3P , it shall be done G1096 V-FDI-3S for them G846 P-DPM of G3844 PREP my G3588 T-GSM Father G3962 N-GSM which G3588 T-GSM is in G1722 PREP heaven G3772 N-DPM .
20 For G1063 CONJ where G3757 ADV two G1417 A-NUI or G2228 PRT three G5140 A-NPM are G1526 V-PXI-3P gathered together G4863 V-RPP-NPM in G1519 PREP my G1699 S-1ASN name G3686 N-ASN , there G1563 ADV am G1510 V-PXI-1S I in G1722 PREP the midst G3319 A-DSN of them G846 P-GPM .
21 Then G5119 ADV came G4334 V-2AAP-NSM Peter G4074 N-NSM to him G846 P-DSM , and said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Lord G2962 N-VSM , how oft G4212 ADV shall my G3588 T-NSM brother G80 N-NSM sin G264 V-FAI-3S against G1519 PREP me G1691 P-1AS , and G2532 CONJ I forgive G863 V-FAI-1S him G846 P-DSM ? till G2193 CONJ seven times G2034 ADV ?
22 Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , I say G3004 V-PAI-1S not G3756 PRT-N unto thee G4671 P-2DS , Until G2193 CONJ seven times G2034 ADV : but , Until G2193 CONJ seventy times G1441 ADV seven G2033 A-NUI .
23 Therefore G1223 PREP is the G3588 T-NSF kingdom G932 N-NSF of heaven G3772 N-GPM likened unto G3666 V-API-3S a certain king G935 N-DSM , which G3739 R-NSM would G2309 V-AAI-3S take G4868 V-AAN account G3056 N-ASM of G3326 PREP his G3588 T-GPM servants G1401 N-GPM .
24 And G1161 CONJ when he G846 P-GSM had begun G756 V-AMP-GSM to reckon G4868 V-PAN , one G1520 A-NSM was brought G4374 V-API-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , which owed G3781 N-NSM him ten thousand G3463 A-GPM talents G5007 N-GPN .
25 But G1161 CONJ forasmuch as he G846 P-GSM had G2192 V-PAP-GSM not G3361 PRT-N to pay G591 V-2AAN , his G3588 T-NSM lord G2962 N-NSM commanded G2753 V-AAI-3S him G846 P-GSM to be sold G4097 V-APN , and G2532 CONJ his G3588 T-ASF wife G1135 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ children G5043 N-APN , and G2532 CONJ all G3956 A-APN that he G3745 K-APN had G2192 V-IAI-3S , and G2532 CONJ payment to be made G591 V-APN .
26 The G3588 T-NSM servant G1401 N-NSM therefore G3767 CONJ fell down G4098 V-2AAP-NSM , and worshiped G4352 V-IAI-3S him G846 P-DSM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Lord G2962 N-VSM , have patience G3114 V-AAM-2S with G1909 PREP me G1698 P-1DS , and G2532 CONJ I will pay G591 V-FAI-1S thee G4671 P-2DS all G3956 A-APN .
27 Then G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM lord G2962 N-NSM of G3588 T-GSM that G3588 T-GSM servant G1401 N-GSM was moved with compassion G4697 V-AOP-NSM and loosed G630 V-AAI-3S him G846 P-ASM , and G2532 CONJ forgave G863 V-AAI-3S him G846 P-DSM the G3588 T-ASN debt G1156 N-ASN .
28 But G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM same G3588 T-NSM servant G1401 N-NSM went out G1831 V-2AAP-NSM , and found G2147 V-2AAI-3S one G1520 A-ASM of G3588 T-GPM his G3588 T-GPM fellow servants G4889 N-GPM , which G3739 R-NSM owed G3784 V-IAI-3S him G846 P-DSM a hundred G1540 A-NUI pence G1220 N-APN : and G2532 CONJ he laid hands G2902 V-AAP-NSM on him G846 P-ASM , and took him by the throat G4155 V-IAI-3S , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Pay G591 V-2AAM-2S me G3427 P-1DS that G3748 thou owest G3784 V-PAI-2S .
29 And G3767 CONJ his G3588 T-NSM fellowservant G4889 N-NSM fell down G4098 V-2AAP-NSM at G1519 PREP his G3588 T-APM feet G4228 N-APM , and besought G3870 V-IAI-3S him G846 P-ASM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Have patience G3114 V-AAM-2S with G1909 PREP me G1698 P-1DS , and G2532 CONJ I will pay G591 V-FAI-1S thee G4671 P-2DS all G3956 .
30 And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM would G2309 V-IAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N : but G235 CONJ went G565 V-2AAP-NSM and cast G906 V-2AAI-3S him G846 P-ASM into G1519 PREP prison G5438 N-ASF , till G2193 CONJ he should pay G591 V-2AAS-3S the G3588 T-ASN debt G3784 V-PPP-ASN .
31 So G1161 CONJ when his G3588 T-NPM fellowservants G4889 N-NPM saw G1492 V-2AAP-NPM what was done G1096 V-2ADP-APN , they were very sorry G3076 V-API-3P , and G2532 CONJ came G2064 V-2AAP-NPM and told G1285 V-AAI-3P unto their G3588 T-DSM lord G2962 N-DSM all G3956 A-APN that was done G1096 V-2ADP-APN .
32 Then G5119 ADV his G3588 T-NSM lord G2962 N-NSM , after that he had called G4341 V-ADP-NSM him G846 P-GSM , said G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , O thou wicked G4190 A-VSM servant G1401 N-VSM , I forgave G863 V-AAI-1S thee G4671 P-2DS all G3956 A-ASF that G3588 T-ASF debt G3782 N-ASF , because G1893 CONJ thou desiredst G3870 V-AAI-2S me G3165 P-1AS :
33 Shouldest G1163 V-IQI-3S not G3756 PRT-N thou G4571 P-2AS also G2532 CONJ have had compassion G1653 V-AAN on thy G3588 T-ASM fellow servant G4889 N-ASM , even G2532 CONJ as G5613 ADV I G1473 P-1NS had pity G1653 V-AAI-1S on thee G4571 P-2AS ?
34 And G2532 CONJ his G3588 T-NSM lord G2962 N-NSM was wroth G3710 V-APP-NSM , and delivered G3860 V-AAI-3S him G846 P-ASM to the G3588 T-DPM tormentors G930 N-DPM , till G2193 CONJ he G3739 R-GSM should pay G591 V-2AAS-3S all G3956 A-ASN that was due G3784 V-PPP-ASN unto him G846 P-DSM .
35 So likewise G3779 ADV shall my G3588 T-NSM heavenly G2032 A-NSM Father G3962 N-NSM do G4160 V-FAI-3S also G2532 CONJ unto you G5213 P-2DP , if G3362 ye from G575 PREP your G3588 T-GPF hearts G2588 N-GPF forgive G863 V-2AAS-2P not G3362 every one G1538 A-NSM his G3588 T-DSM brother G80 N-DSM their G3588 T-APN trespasses G3900 N-APN .
