Revelation 21:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 THEN I saw a new sky (heaven) and a new earth, for the former sky and the former earth had passed away (vanished), and there no longer existed any sea. Isa. 65:17; 66:22.
2 And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, all arrayed like a bride beautified and adorned for her husband;
3 Then I heard a mighty voice from the throne and I perceived its distinct words, saying, See! The abode of God is with men, and He will live (encamp, tent) among them; and they shall be His people, and God shall personally be with them and be their God. Ezek. 37:27.
4 God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish (sorrow and mourning) nor grief nor pain any more, for the old conditions and the former order of things have passed away. Isa. 25:8; 35:10.
5 And He Who is seated on the throne said, See! I make all things new. Also He said, Record this, for these sayings are faithful (accurate, incorruptible, and trustworthy) and true (genuine). Isa. 43:19.
6 And He further said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I Myself will give water without price from the fountain (springs) of the water of Life. Isa. 55:1.
7 He who is victorious shall inherit all these things, and I will be God to him and he shall be My son.
8 But as for the cowards and the ignoble and the contemptible and the cravenly lacking in courage and the cowardly submissive, and as for the unbelieving and faithless, and as for the depraved and defiled with abominations, and as for murderers and the lewd and adulterous and the practicers of magic arts and the idolaters (those who give supreme devotion to anyone or anything other than God) and all liars (those who knowingly convey untruth by word or deed)--all of these shall have their part in the lake that blazes with fire and brimstone. This is the second death. Isa. 30:33.
9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven final plagues (afflictions, calamities) came and spoke to me. He said, Come with me! I will show you the bride, the Lamb's wife.
10 Then in the Spirit He conveyed me away to a vast and lofty mountain and exhibited to me the holy (hallowed, consecrated) city of Jerusalem descending out of heaven from God, Ezek. 40:2.
11 Clothed in God's glory in all its splendor and radiance. The luster of it resembled a rare and most precious jewel, like jasper, shining clear as crystal.
12 It had a massive and high wall with twelve large gates, and at the gates there were stationed twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were written: Exod. 28:21; Ezek. 48:30-35.
13 On the east side three gates, on the north side three gates, on the south side three gates, and on the west side three gates.
14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 And he who spoke to me had a golden measuring reed (rod) to measure the city and its gates and its wall. Ezek. 40:5.
16 The city lies in a square, its length being the same as its width. And he measured the city with his reed--12,000 stadia (about 1,500 miles); its length and width and height are the same.
17 He measured its wall also--144 cubits (about 72 yards) by a man's measure of a cubit from his elbow to his third fingertip, which is the measure of the angel.
18 The wall was built of jasper, while the city itself was of pure gold, clear and transparent like glass.
19 The foundation stones of the wall of the city were ornamented with all of the precious stones. The first foundation stone was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony (or white agate), the fourth emerald, Isa. 54:11, 12.
20 The fifth onyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.
21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each separate gate being built of one solid pearl. And the main street (the broadway) of the city was of gold as pure and translucent as glass.
22 I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Omnipotent Himself and the Lamb Himself are its temple.
23 And the city has no need of the sun nor of the moon to give light to it, for the splendor and radiance (glory) of God illuminate it, and the Lamb is its lamp. Isa. 24:23; 60:1, 19.
24 The nations shall walk by its light and the rulers and leaders of the earth shall bring into it their glory.
25 And its gates shall never be closed by day, and there shall be no night there. Isa. 60:11.
26 They shall bring the glory (the splendor and majesty) and the honor of the nations into it.
27 But nothing that defiles or profanes or is unwashed shall ever enter it, nor anyone who commits abominations (unclean, detestable, morally repugnant things) or practices falsehood, but only those whose names are recorded in the Lamb's Book of Life.

2 And G2532 CONJ I G1473 John G2491 saw G1492 the G3588 T-ASF holy G40 A-ASF city G4172 N-ASF , new G2537 A-ASF Jerusalem G2419 N-PRI , coming down G2597 V-PAP-ASF from G575 PREP God G2316 N-GSM out of G3588 T-GSM heaven G3772 N-GSM , prepared G2090 V-RPP-ASF as G5613 ADV a bride G3565 N-ASF adorned G2885 V-RPP-ASF for G3588 T-DSM her G3588 T-DSM husband G435 N-DSM .

I G1473 P-1NS will give G1325 V-FAI-1S unto him that is athirst G1372 V-PAP-DSM of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GSF fountain G4077 N-GSF of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN water G5204 N-GSN of life G2222 N-GSF freely G1432 ADV .
7 He that overcometh G3528 V-PAP-NSM shall inherit G2816 V-FAI-3S all things G3956 ; and G2532 CONJ I will be G2071 V-FXI-1S his G848 God G2316 N-NSM , and G2532 CONJ he G846 P-DSM shall be G2071 V-FXI-3S my G3427 P-1DS son G5207 N-NSM .
8 But G1161 CONJ the fearful G1169 A-DPM , and G2532 CONJ unbelieving G571 A-DPM , and G2532 CONJ abominable G948 V-RPP-DPM , and G2532 CONJ murderers G5406 N-DPM , and G2532 CONJ whoremongers G4205 N-DPM , and G2532 CONJ sorcerers G5332 , and G2532 CONJ idolaters G1496 N-DPM , and G2532 CONJ all G3956 A-DPM liars G5571 A-DPM , shall have their G3588 T-NSN part G3313 N-NSN in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF lake G3041 N-DSF which burneth G2545 V-PPP-DSF with fire G4442 N-DSN and G2532 CONJ brimstone G2303 N-DSN : which G3588 T-NSM is G3603 the G3588 T-NSM second G1208 A-NSM death G2288 N-NSM .

14 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN wall G5038 N-NSN of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF city G4172 N-GSF had G2192 V-PAP-NSN twelve G1427 A-NUI foundations G2310 N-APM , and G2532 CONJ in G1722 them G846 P-GPM the names G3686 N-APN of the G3588 T-GPM twelve G1427 A-NUI apostles G652 N-GPM of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN Lamb G721 N-GSN .
15 And G2532 CONJ he that talked G2980 V-PAP-NSM with G3326 PREP me G1700 P-1GS had G2192 V-IAI-3S a golden G5552 A-ASM reed G2563 N-ASM to G2443 CONJ measure G3354 V-AAS-3S the G3588 T-ASF city G4172 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-APM gates G4440 N-APM thereof G846 P-GSF , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-ASN wall G5038 N-ASN thereof G846 P-GSF .

21 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM twelve G1427 A-NUI gates G4440 N-NPM were twelve G1427 A-NUI pearls G3135 N-NPM ; every several G303 PREP gate G4440 N-GPM was G2258 V-IXI-3S of G1537 PREP one G1520 A-NSM pearl G3135 N-GSM : and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF street G4113 N-NSF of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF city G4172 N-GSF was pure G2513 A-NSN gold G5553 N-NSN , as it were G5613 ADV transparent G1307 A-NSM glass G5194 N-NSM .
22 And G2532 CONJ I saw G1492 V-2AAI-1S no G3756 PRT-N temple G3485 N-ASM therein G1722 PREP : for G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM Lord G2962 N-NSM God G2316 N-NSM Almighty G3841 N-NSM and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN Lamb G721 N-NSN are G2076 V-PXI-3S the temple G3485 N-NSM of it G846 P-DSF .
23 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF city G4172 N-NSF had G2192 V-PAI-3S no G3756 PRT-N need G5532 N-ASF of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM sun G2246 N-GSM , neither G3761 ADV of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF moon G4582 N-GSF , to G2443 CONJ shine G5316 V-PAS-3P in G1722 it G3588 T-NSF : for G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF glory G1391 N-NSF of God G2316 N-GSM did lighten G5461 V-AAI-3S it G846 P-ASF , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN Lamb G721 N-NSN is the G3588 T-NSM light G3088 N-NSM thereof G846 P-GSF .
24 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPN nations G1484 N-NPN of them which are saved G4982 shall walk G4043 V-FAI-3P in G1722 the G3588 T-GSM light G5457 N-GSN of it G846 P-GSF : and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM kings G935 N-NPM of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF earth G1093 N-GSF do bring G5342 V-PAI-3P their G848 glory G1391 N-ASF and G2532 CONJ honor G5092 N-ASF into G1519 PREP it G846 P-DSM .
25 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM gates G4440 N-NPM of it G846 P-GSF shall not be shut at all G3364 by day G2250 N-GSF : for G1063 CONJ there shall be G2071 V-FXI-3S no G3756 PRT-N night G3571 N-NSF there G1563 ADV .
26 And G2532 CONJ they shall bring G5342 V-FAI-3P the G3588 T-ASF glory G1391 N-ASF and G2532 CONJ honor G5092 N-ASF of G3588 T-GPN the G3588 T-GPN nations G1484 N-GPN into G1519 PREP it G846 P-ASF .
27 And G2532 CONJ there shall in no wise G3364 enter G1525 V-2AAS-3S into G1519 PREP it G846 P-ASF any thing G3956 A-NSN that defileth G2840 , neither G2532 CONJ whatsoever worketh G4160 V-PAP-NSN abomination G946 N-ASN , or G2532 CONJ maketh a lie G5579 N-ASN : but they which are written G1125 V-RPP-NPM in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-GSN Lamb G721 N-GSN \'s book G975 N-DSN of life G2222 N-GSF .
