Isaiah 22:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 THE MOURNFUL, inspired prediction (a burden to be lifted up) concerning the Valley of Vision: What do you mean I wonder that you have all gone up to the housetops,
2 You who are full of shouting, a tumultuous city, a joyous and exultant city? O Jerusalem your slain warriors have not met a glorious death with the sword or in battle.
3 All your military leaders have fled together; without the bow which they had thrown away they have been taken captive and bound by the archers. All of you who were found were bound together as captives, though they had fled far away.
4 Therefore I Isaiah said, Look away from me; I will weep bitterly. Do not hasten and try to comfort me over the destruction of the daughter of my people.
5 For it is a day of discomfiture and of tumult, of treading down, of confusion and perplexity from the Lord God of hosts in the Valley of Vision, a day of breaking down the walls and of crying to the mountains.
6 And in my vision I saw Elam take up the quiver, with troops in chariots, infantry, and horsemen; and Kir with Elam subject to Assyria uncovered the shield.
7 And it came to pass that your choicest valleys were full of chariots, and the horsemen took their station and set themselves in offensive array at the gate of Jerusalem. Fulfilled in II Chron. 32; Isa. 36.
8 Then God removed the protective covering of Judah; and you looked to the weapons in the House of the Forest the king's armory in that day. I Kings 7:2; 10:17, 21.
9 You saw that the breaches in the walls of the City of David the citadel of Zion were many; since the water supply was still defective you collected within the city's walls the waters of the Lower Pool.
10 And you numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and you broke down the houses to get materials to fortify the city wall.
11 You also made a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the Old Pool, but you did not look to the Maker of it, nor did you recognize Him Who planned it long ago.
12 And in that day the Lord God of hosts called you to weeping and mourning, to the shaving off of all your hair in humiliation and to the girding with sackcloth.
13 But instead, see the pleasure and mirth, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine, with the idea Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!
14 And the Lord of hosts revealed Himself in my ears as He said, Surely this unatoned sin shall not be purged from you until you are punished--and the punishment will be death, says the Lord God of hosts.
15 Come, go to this contemptible steward and treasurer, to Shebna, who is over the house but who is presumptuous enough to be building himself a tomb among those of the mighty, a tomb worthy of a king, and say to him,
16 What business have you here? And whom have you entombed here, that you have the right to hew out for yourself a tomb here? He hews out a sepulcher for himself on the height! He carves out a dwelling for himself in the rock!
17 Behold, the Lord will hurl you away violently, O you strong man; yes, He will take tight hold of you and He will surely cover you with shame.
18 He will surely roll you up in a bundle Shebna and toss you like a ball into a large country; there you will die and there will be your splendid chariots, you disgrace to your master's house!
19 And I will thrust you from your office, and from your station will you be pulled down.
20 And in that day I will call My servant, Eliakim son of Hilkiah.
21 And I will clothe him with your robe and will bind your girdle on him and will commit your authority to his hand; he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.
22 And the key of the house of David I will lay upon his shoulder; he shall open and no one shall shut, he shall shut and no one shall open.
23 And I will fasten him like a peg or nail in a firm place; and he will become a throne of honor and glory to his father's house.
24 And they will hang on him the honor and the whole weight of responsibility for his father's house: the offspring and issue of the family, high and low, every small vessel, from the cups even to all the flasks and big bulging bottles.
25 In that day, says the Lord of hosts, the nail or peg that was fastened into the sure place shall give way and be moved and be hewn down and fall, and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off; for the Lord has spoken it.

3 All H3605 NMS thy rulers H7101 are fled H5074 together H3162 ADV , they are bound H631 by the archers H7198 : all H3605 NMS that are found H4672 in thee are bound H631 together H3162 ADV-3MS , which have fled H1272 from far H7350 M-AMS .
4 Therefore H5921 PREP said H559 VQQ1MS I , Look away H8159 from H4480 PREP-1MS me ; I will weep H1065 bitterly H4843 , labor H213 not H408 NPAR to comfort H5162 me , because H5921 PREP of the spoiling H7701 of the daughter H1323 CFS of my people H5971 .
5 For H3588 CONJ it is a day H3117 NMS of trouble H4103 , and of treading down H4001 , and of perplexity H3998 by the Lord H136 GOD H3069 of hosts H6635 in the valley H1516 of vision H2384 , breaking down H6979 the walls H7023 , and of crying H7771 to H413 PREP the mountains H2022 .
6 And Elam H5867 bore H5375 VQQ3MS the quiver H827 NFS with chariots H7393 of men H120 NMS and horsemen H6571 , and Kir H7024 uncovered H6168 the shield H4043 .
7 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , that thy choicest H4055 valleys H6010 shall be full H4390 VQQ3MP of chariots H7393 , and the horsemen H6571 shall set themselves in array H7896 at the gate H8179 .
8 And he discovered H1540 the covering H4539 of Judah H3063 , and thou didst look H5027 in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS to H413 PREP the armor H5402 of the house H1004 CMS of the forest H3293 .
9 Ye have seen H7200 also the breaches H1233 of the city H5892 GFS of David H1732 MMS , that H3588 CONJ they are many H7231 : and ye gathered together H6908 the waters H4325 of the lower H8481 pool H1295 .
10 And ye have numbered H5608 the houses H1004 of Jerusalem H3389 , and the houses H1004 have ye broken down H5422 to fortify H1219 the wall H2346 .
11 Ye made H6213 also a ditch H4724 between H996 PREP the two walls H2346 for the water H4325 of the old H3465 pool H1295 : but ye have not H3808 W-NPAR looked H5027 unto H413 PREP the maker H6213 thereof , neither H3808 W-NPAR had respect H7200 unto him that fashioned H3335 it long ago H7350 .
12 And in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS did the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 of hosts H6635 call H7121 W-VQY3MS to weeping H1065 , and to mourning H4553 , and to baldness H7144 , and to girding H2296 with sackcloth H8242 :
13 And behold H2009 IJEC joy H8342 and gladness H8057 , slaying H2026 oxen H1241 NMS , and killing H7819 sheep H6629 NMS , eating H398 VQFA flesh H1320 NMS , and drinking H8354 wine H3196 : let us eat H398 and drink H8354 ; for H3588 CONJ tomorrow H4279 NMS we shall die H4191 .
14 And it was revealed H1540 in mine ears H241 B-CFD-1MS by the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , Surely H518 PART this H2088 D-PMS iniquity H5771 shall not be purged H3722 from you till H5704 PREP ye die H4191 , saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 of hosts H6635 .
15 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 of hosts H6635 , Go H1980 L-PPRO-2MS , get H935 thee unto H413 PREP this H2088 D-PMS treasurer H5532 , even unto H5921 PREP Shebna H7644 , which H834 RPRO is over H5921 PREP the house H1004 , and say ,
16 What H4100 IPRO hast thou here H6311 ? and whom H4310 W-IPRO hast thou here H6311 , that H3588 CONJ thou hast hewed thee out H2672 a sepulcher H6913 NMS here H6311 ADV , as he that heweth him out H2672 a sepulcher H6913 on high H4791 , and that graveth H2710 a habitation H4908 for himself in a rock H5553 ?
17 Behold H2009 IJEC , the LORD H3068 EDS will carry thee away H2904 with a mighty H1397 NMS captivity H2925 , and will surely cover H5844 thee .
18 He will surely violently turn H6801 and toss H6802 thee like a ball H1754 into H413 PREP a large H7342 country H776 GFS : there H8033 ADV-3FS shalt thou die H4191 , and there H8033 the chariots H4818 of thy glory H3519 shall be the shame H7036 of thy lord H113 \'s house H1004 CMS .
19 And I will drive H1920 thee from thy station H4673 , and from thy state H4612 shall he pull thee down H2040 .
20 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS , that I will call H7121 my servant H5650 L-CMS-1MS Eliakim H471 the son H1121 of Hilkiah H2518 :
21 And I will clothe H3847 him with thy robe H3801 , and strengthen H2388 him with thy girdle H73 , and I will commit H5414 VQY1MS thy government H4475 into his hand H3027 B-CFS-3MS : and he shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS a father H1 to the inhabitants H3427 of Jerusalem H3389 , and to the house H1004 of Judah H3063 .
22 And the key H4668 of the house H1004 CMS of David H1732 MMS will I lay H5414 upon H5921 PREP his shoulder H7926 ; so he shall open H6605 , and none H369 W-NPAR shall shut H5462 ; and he shall shut H5462 , and none H369 W-NPAR shall open H6605 .
23 And I will fasten H8628 him as a nail H3489 in a sure H539 place H4725 ; and he shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS for a glorious H3519 throne H3678 to his father H1 \'s house H1004 .
24 And they shall hang H8518 upon H5921 PREP-3MS him all H3605 NMS the glory H3519 of his father H1 CMS-3MS \'s house H1004 CMS , the offspring H6631 and the issue H6849 , all H3605 NMS vessels H3627 of small quantity H6996 , from the vessels H3627 of cups H101 , even to H5704 W-PREP all H3605 NMS the vessels H3627 of flagons H5035 .
25 In that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , shall the nail H3489 that is fastened H8628 in the sure H539 place H4725 be removed H4185 , and be cut down H1438 , and fall H5307 ; and the burden H4853 that H834 RPRO was upon H5921 PREP-3FS it shall be cut off H3772 : for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS hath spoken H1696 it .
