Joshua 2:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 JOSHUA SON of Nun sent two men secretly from Shittim as scouts, saying, Go, view the land, especially Jericho. And they went and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab and lodged there.
2 It was told the king of Jericho, Behold, there came men in here tonight of the Israelites to search out the country.
3 And the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men who have come to you, who entered your house, for they have come to search out the land.
4 But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. So she said, Yes, two men came to me, but I did not know from where they had come.
5 And at gate closing time, after dark, the men went out. Where they went I do not know. Pursue them quickly, for you will overtake them.
6 But she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them under the stalks of flax which she had laid in order there.
7 So the men pursued them to the Jordan as far as the fords. As soon as the pursuers had gone, the city's gate was shut.
8 Before the two men had lain down, Rahab came up to them on the roof,
9 And she said to the men, I know that the Lord has given you the land and that your terror is fallen upon us and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the east side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed.
11 When we heard it, our hearts melted, neither did spirit or courage remain any more in any man because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. Heb. 11:31.
12 Now then, I pray you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father's house, and give me a sure sign,
13 And save alive my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all they have, and deliver us from death.
14 And the men said to her, Our lives for yours! If you do not tell this business of ours, then when the Lord gives us the land we will deal kindly and faithfully with you.
15 Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was built into the town wall so that she dwelt in the wall.
16 And she said to them, Get to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; hide yourselves there three days until the pursuers have returned; and afterward you may go your way.
17 The men said to her, We will be blameless of this oath you have made us swear. The responsibility is now yours.
18 Behold, when we come into the land, you shall bind this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and you shall bring your father and mother, your brothers, and all your father's household into your house.
19 And if anyone goes out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless; but if a hand is laid upon anyone who is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head.
20 But if you tell this business of ours, we shall be guiltless of your oath which you made us swear.
21 And she said, According to your words, so it is. Then she sent them away and they departed; and she bound the scarlet cord in the window.
22 They left and went to the mountain and stayed there three days, until the pursuers returned, who had searched all along the way without finding them.
23 So the two men descended from the mountain, passed over the Jordan, and came to Joshua son of Nun, and told him all that had befallen them.
24 They said to Joshua, Truly the Lord has given all the land into our hands; for all the inhabitants of the country are faint because of us.

And they went H1980 W-VQY3MP , and came into H935 W-VQY3MP a harlot H2181 \'s house H1004 CMS , named H8034 Rahab H7343 , and lodged H7901 there H8033 .
2 And it was told H559 the king H4428 L-CMS of Jericho H3405 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Behold H2009 IJEC , there came H935 VQQ3MP men H376 in hither H2008 ADV tonight H3915 D-AMS of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 to search out H2658 the country H776 D-GFS .
3 And the king H4428 NMS of Jericho H3405 sent H7971 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Rahab H7343 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Bring forth H3318 the men H376 D-NMP that are come H935 to H413 PREP thee , which H834 RPRO are entered H935 VQQ3MP into thine house H1004 : for H3588 CONJ they be come H935 to search out H2658 all H3605 NMS the country H776 D-GFS .
4 And the woman H802 took H3947 W-VQY3FS the two H8147 ONUM men H376 D-NMP , and hid H6845 them , and said H559 W-VQY3FS thus H3651 ADV , There came H935 VQQ3MP men H376 D-NMP unto H413 PREP-1MS me , but I knew H3045 VQY1MS not H3808 W-NPAR whence H370 M-ADV they H1992 were :
5 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS about the time of shutting H5462 of the gate H8179 , when it was dark H2822 BD-NMS , that the men H376 went out H3318 : whither H575 ADV the men H376 D-NMP went H1980 VQQ3MP I know H3045 VQY1MS not H3808 NADV : pursue H7291 after H310 them quickly H4118 ; for H3588 CONJ ye shall overtake H5381 them .
6 But she H1931 had brought them up H5927 to the roof H1406 of the house , and hid H2934 them with the stalks H6086 AMS of flax H6593 , which she had laid in order H6186 upon H5921 PREP the roof H1406 .
7 And the men H376 pursued H7291 after H310 them the way H1870 NMS to Jordan H3383 D-EFS unto H5921 PREP the fords H4569 : and as soon as PREP they which pursued H7291 after H310 PREP them were gone out H3318 VQQ3MP , they shut H5462 the gate H8179 .
8 And before H2962 ADV they H1992 were laid down H7901 , she H1931 came up H5927 VQQ3FS unto H5921 PREP them upon H5921 PREP the roof H1406 ;
9 And she said H559 W-VQY3FS unto H413 PREP the men H376 D-NMP , I know H3045 VQY1MS that H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS hath given H5414 VQQ3MS you the land H776 D-GFS , and that H3588 CONJ your terror H367 is fallen H5307 upon H5921 PREP-1MP us , and that H3588 CONJ all H3605 NMS the inhabitants H3427 of the land H776 D-GFS faint H4127 because of you .
10 For H3588 CONJ we have heard H8085 VQQ1MP how H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS dried up H3001 the water H4325 of the Red H5488 NMS sea H3220 for you , when ye came out H3318 of Egypt H4714 ; and what H834 RPRO ye did H6213 unto the two H8147 kings H4428 CMP of the Amorites H567 D-TMS , that H834 RPRO were on the other side H5676 Jordan H3383 D-EFS , Sihon H5511 and Og H5747 , whom H834 RPRO ye utterly destroyed H2763 .
11 And as soon as we had heard H8085 these things , our hearts H3824 did melt H4549 , neither H3808 W-NPAR did there remain H6965 any more H5750 ADV courage H7307 NFS in any man H376 because of you : for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 NAME-4MP , he H1931 PPRO-3MS is God H430 EDP in heaven H8064 BD-NMP above H4605 , and in H5921 W-PREP earth H776 D-GFS beneath H8478 .
12 Now H6258 W-ADV therefore , I pray H4994 IJEC you , swear H7650 unto me by the LORD H3068 , since H3588 CONJ I have showed you kindness H5973 PREP-3MP , that ye H859 PPRO-2MS will also H1571 CONJ show H6213 VQQ1MS kindness H2617 NMS unto H5973 PREP my father H1 CMS-1MS \'s house H1004 CMS , and give H5414 me a true H571 token H226 NMS :
13 And that ye will save alive H2421 my father H1 CMS-1MS , and my mother H517 CFS-1MS , and my brethren H251 NMP-1MS , and my sisters H269 , and all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO they have , and deliver H5337 our lives H5315 from death H4194 .
14 And the men H376 D-NMP answered H559 W-VQY3MP her , Our life H5315 for H8478 yours , if H518 PART ye utter H5046 not H3808 NADV this H2088 DPRO our business H1697 . And it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS , when the LORD H3068 EDS hath given H5414 us the land H776 D-GFS , that we will deal H6213 kindly H2617 NMS and truly H571 with H5973 PREP-2FS thee .
15 Then she let them down H3381 by a cord H2256 through H1157 PREP the window H2474 : for H3588 CONJ her house H1004 CMS-3FS was upon the town H2346 wall H7023 , and she H1931 PPRO-3FS dwelt H3427 upon the wall H2346 .
16 And she said H559 W-VQY3FS unto them , Get H1980 you to the mountain H2022 D-NMS-3FS , lest H6435 the pursuers H7291 meet H6293 you ; and hide yourselves H2247 there H8033 ADV-3FS three H7969 BMS days H3117 NMP , until H5704 PREP the pursuers H7291 be returned H7725 : and afterward H310 W-ADV may ye go H1980 your way H1870 .
17 And the men H376 D-NMP said H559 W-VQY3MP unto H413 PREP-3FS her , We H587 PPRO-1MP will be blameless H5355 AMP of this thine oath H7621 which H834 RPRO thou hast made us swear H7650 .
18 Behold H2009 IJEC , when we H587 PPRO-1MP come H935 into the land H776 B-NFS , thou shalt bind H7194 this H2088 D-PMS line H8615 CFS of scarlet H8144 thread H2339 in the window H2474 which H834 RPRO thou didst let us down H3381 by : and thou shalt bring H622 thy father H1 , and thy mother H517 , and thy brethren H251 , and all H3605 NMS thy father H1 \'s household H1004 CMS , home H1004 unto H413 thee .
19 And it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS , that whosoever H3605 NMS shall go out H3318 VQY3MS of the doors H1817 of thy house H1004 into the street H2351 , his blood H1818 CMS-3MS shall be upon his head H7218 , and we H587 will be guiltless H5355 AMP : and whosoever H3605 NMS shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS with H854 PART-2MS thee in the house H1004 , his blood H1818 CMS-3MS shall be on our head H7218 , if H518 PART any hand H3027 NFS be H1961 W-VQQ3MS upon him .
20 And if H518 W-PART thou utter H5046 this H2088 DPRO our business H1697 , then we will be H1961 quit H5355 AMP of thine oath H7621 which H834 RPRO thou hast made us to swear H7650 .
21 And she said H559 W-VQY3FS , According unto your words H1697 , so H3651 be it H1931 PPRO-3MS . And she sent them away H7971 , and they departed H1980 W-VQY3MP : and she bound H7194 the scarlet H8144 line H8615 CFS in the window H2474 .
22 And they went H1980 W-VQY3MP , and came H935 W-VQY3MP unto the mountain H2022 D-NMS-3FS , and abode H3427 W-VQY3MP there H8033 ADV three H7969 BMS days H3117 NMP , until H5704 PREP the pursuers H7291 were returned H7725 VQQ3MP : and the pursuers H7291 sought H1245 them throughout all H3605 B-CMS the way H1870 D-NMS , but found H4672 them not H3808 W-NPAR .
23 So the two H8147 ONUM men H376 returned H7725 W-VUY3MP , and descended H3381 from the mountain H2022 , and passed over H5674 , and came H935 W-VQY3MP to H413 PREP Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun H5126 , and told H5608 him all H3605 NMS things that befell H4672 them :
24 And they said H559 W-VQY3MP unto H413 PREP Joshua H3091 , Truly H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS hath delivered H5414 VQQ3MS into our hands H3027 all H3605 NMS the land H776 D-GFS ; for even H1571 W-CONJ all H3605 NMS the inhabitants H3427 of the country H776 D-GFS do faint H4127 because of us .
