Genesis 12:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 NOW in Haran the Lord said to Abram, Go for yourself for your own advantage away from your country, from your relatives and your father's house, to the land that I will show you. Heb. 11:8-10.
2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you with abundant increase of favors and make your name famous and distinguished, and you will be a blessing dispensing good to others.
3 And I will bless those who bless you who confer prosperity or happiness upon you and curse him who curses or uses insolent language toward you; in you will all the families and kindred of the earth be blessed and by you they will bless themselves. Gal. 3:8.
4 So Abram departed, as the Lord had directed him; and Lot his nephew went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.
5 Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the persons servants that they had acquired in Haran, and they went forth to go to the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan,
6 Abram passed through the land to the locality of Shechem, to the oak or terebinth tree of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, I will give this land to your posterity. So Abram built an altar there to the Lord, Who had appeared to him.
8 From there he pulled up his tent pegs and departed to the mountain on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the Lord and called upon the name of the Lord.
9 Abram journeyed on, still going toward the South (the Negeb).
10 Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down into Egypt to live temporarily, for the famine in the land was oppressive (intense and grievous).
11 And when he was about to enter into Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, I know that you are beautiful to behold.
12 So when the Egyptians see you, they will say, This is his wife; and they will kill me, but they will let you live.
13 Say, I beg of you, that you are my sister, so that it may go well with me for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.
14 And when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.
15 The princes of Pharaoh also saw her and commended her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into Pharaoh's house harem.
16 And he treated Abram well for her sake; he acquired sheep, oxen, he-donkeys, menservants, maidservants, she-donkeys, and camels.
17 But the Lord scourged Pharaoh and his household with serious plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife.
18 And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?
19 Why did you say, She is my sister, so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife; take her and get away from here!
20 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him, and they brought him on his way with his wife and all that he had.
1 Now the LORD H3068 EDS had said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Abram H87 EMS , Get thee out H1980 L-PPRO-2MS of thy country H776 M-CFS-2MS , and from thy kindred H4138 WM-CFS-2MS , and from thy father\'s house H1004 WM-CMS , unto H413 PREP a land H776 D-GFS that H834 RPRO I will show H7200 VHQ1MS-2MS thee :
2 And I will make H6213 W-VQY1MS-2MS of thee a great H1419 AMS nation H1471 L-NMS , and I will bless H1288 W-VPY1MS-2MS thee , and make thy name great H1431 W-VPI1MS ; and thou shalt be H1961 W-VQI2MS a blessing H1293 NFS :
3 And I will bless H1288 W-VPY1MS them that bless H1288 VPCMP-2MS thee , and curse H779 VQY1MS him that curseth H7043 W-VPCMS-2MS thee : and in thee shall all H3605 NMS families H4940 CFP of the earth H127 D-NFS be blessed H1288 W-VNQ3MP .
4 So Abram H87 EMS departed H1980 W-VQY3MS , as H834 K-RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS had spoken H1696 VPQ3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him ; and Lot H3876 EMS went H1980 W-VQY3MS with H854 PREP-3MS him : and Abram H87 W-EMS was seventy H7657 W-MMP and five H2568 MFS years H8141 NFP old H1121 when he departed H3318 B-VQFC-3MS out of Haran H2771 M-LFS .
5 And Abram H87 EMS took H3947 W-VQY3MS Sarai H8297 EFS his wife H802 CFS-3MS , and Lot H3876 EMS his brother H251 CMS-3MS \'s son H1121 , and all H3605 NMS their substance H7399 CMS-3MP that H834 RPRO they had gathered H7408 VQQ3MP , and the souls H5315 D-NFS that H834 RPRO they had gotten H6213 VQQ3MP in Haran H2771 B-LFS ; and they went forth H3318 W-VQY3MP to go H1980 L-VQFC into the land H776 NFS-3FS of Canaan H3667 LMS ; and into the land H776 NFS-3FS of Canaan H3667 LMS they came H935 W-VQY3MP .
6 And Abram H87 EMS passed through H5674 W-VQY3MS the land H776 B-NFS unto H5704 PREP the place H4725 CMS of Sichem H7927 LMS , unto H5704 PREP the plain H436 CMS of Moreh H4176 LMS . And the Canaanite H3669 WD-TMS was then H227 ADV in the land H776 B-GFS .
7 And the LORD H3068 EDS appeared H7200 W-VNY3MS unto H413 PREP Abram H87 EMS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Unto thy seed H2233 L-CMS-2MS will I give H5414 VQY1MS this H2063 D-DFS land H776 D-GFS : and there H8033 ADV built H1129 W-VQY3MS he an altar H4196 NMS unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS , who appeared H7200 D-VNPMS unto H413 PREP him .
8 And he removed H6275 W-VHY3MS from thence H8033 M-ADV unto a mountain H2022 D-NMS-3FS on the east H6924 M-NMS of Bethel H1008 LFS , and pitched H5186 W-VQY3MS his tent H168 CMS-3MS , having Bethel H1008 LFS on the west H3220 M-NMS , and Hai H5857 WD-EFS on the east H6924 M-NMS : and there H8033 ADV he built H1129 W-VQY3MS an altar H4196 NMS unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS , and called H7121 W-VQY3MS upon the name H8034 B-CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
9 And Abram H87 EMS journeyed H5265 W-VQY3MS , going on H1980 VQFA still H5265 W-VQFA toward the south H5045 D-EFS-3FS .
10 And there was H1961 W-VQY3MS a famine H7458 NMS in the land H776 B-NFS : and Abram H87 EMS went down H3381 W-VQY3MS into Egypt H4714 TFS-3FS to sojourn H1481 L-VQFC there H8033 ADV ; for H3588 CONJ the famine H7458 D-NMS was grievous H3515 AMS in the land H776 B-GFS .
11 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when H834 K-RPRO he was come near H7126 VHQ3MS to enter H935 L-VQFC into Egypt H4714 TFS-3FS , that he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Sarai H8297 EFS his wife H802 CFS-3MS , Behold H2009 IJEC now H4994 IJEC , I know H3045 VQY1MS that H3588 CONJ thou H859 PPRO-2FS art a fair H3303 CFS woman H802 NFS to look upon H4758 NMS :
12 Therefore it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , when H3588 CONJ the Egyptians H4713 D-TMP shall see H7200 VQY3MP thee , that they shall say H559 W-VQQ3MP , This H2063 DPRO is his wife H802 CFS-3MS : and they will kill H2026 W-VQQ3MP me , but they will save thee alive H2421 VPY3MP .
13 Say H559 VQI2FS , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , thou H859 PPRO-2FS art my sister H269 CFS-1MS : that H4616 L-CONJ it may be well H3190 VQY3MS with me for thy sake H5668 B-CMS-2FS ; and my soul H5315 CFS-1MS shall live H2421 W-VQQ3FS because of H1558 B-CMS-2FS thee .
14 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , that , when Abram H87 EMS was come H935 K-VQFC into Egypt H4714 TFS-3FS , the Egyptians H4713 D-TMP beheld H7200 W-VQY3MP the woman H802 D-NFS that H3588 CONJ she H1931 PPRO-3FS was very H3966 ADV fair H3303 AFS .
15 The princes H8269 CMP also of Pharaoh H6547 EMS saw H7200 W-VQY3MP her , and commended H1984 W-VPY3MP her before H413 PREP Pharaoh H6547 EMS : and the woman H802 D-NFS was taken H3947 W-VUY3FS into Pharaoh H6547 EMS \'s house H1004 CMS .
16 And he entreated Abram well H3190 VHQ3MS for her sake H5668 B-CMS-3FS : and he had H1961 W-VPY3MS sheep H6629 NMS , and oxen H1241 W-NMS , and he asses H2543 W-NMP , and menservants H5650 W-NMP , and maidservants H8198 W-NFP , and she asses H860 W-NFP , and camels H1581 W-NMP .
17 And the LORD H3068 EDS plagued H5060 W-VPY3MS Pharaoh H6547 EMS and his house H1004 NMS-3MS with great H1419 AMP plagues H5061 NMP because of PREP Sarai H8297 EFS Abram H87 EMS \'s wife H802 CFS .
18 And Pharaoh H6547 EMS called H7121 W-VQY3MS Abram H87 L-EMS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , What H4100 IPRO is this H2063 DPRO-3FS that thou hast done H6213 VQQ2MS unto me ? why H4100 IPRO didst thou not H3808 NADV tell H5046 VHQ2MS me that H3588 CONJ she H1931 PPRO-3FS was thy wife H802 CFS-2MS ?
19 Why H4100 L-IGAT saidst H559 VQQ2MS thou , She H1931 PPRO-3FS is my sister H269 CFS-1MS ? so I might have taken H3947 VQI2MS her to me to wife H802 L-NFS : now therefore H6258 W-ADV behold H2009 IJEC thy wife H802 CFS-2MS , take H3947 VQI2MS her , and go thy way H1980 W-VQI2MS .
20 And Pharaoh H6547 EMS commanded H6680 W-VPY3MS his men H376 NMP concerning H5921 PREP-3MS him : and they sent him away H7971 W-VPY3MP , and his wife H802 CFS-3MS , and all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO he had .
