1 Samuel 23:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 THEN THEY told David, Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are robbing the threshing floors.
2 So David inquired of the Lord, Shall I go and attack these Philistines? And the Lord said to David, Go, smite the Philistines and save Keilah.
3 David's men said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more, then, if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?
4 Then David inquired of the Lord again. And the Lord answered him, Arise, go down to Keilah, for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.
5 So David and his men went to Keilah and fought the Philistines with a great slaughter and brought away their cattle. So David delivered the people of Keilah.
6 When Abiathar son of Ahimelech fled to David at Keilah, he came with an ephod in his hand.
7 Now it was told Saul that David had come to Keilah. Saul said, God has delivered him into my hand, for he is shut in by going into a town that has gates and bars.
8 Saul summoned all the men for war, to go to Keilah to besiege David and his men.
9 David knew that Saul was plotting evil against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring the ephod here.
10 Then David said, O Lord, the God of Israel, Your servant has surely heard that Saul intends to come and destroy the city of Keilah on my account.
11 Will the men of Keilah deliver me into his hand? Will Saul come down, as Your servant has heard? O Lord, God of Israel, I beseech You, tell Your servant. And the Lord said, He will come down.
12 Then David asked, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into Saul's hand? The Lord said, They will deliver you up.
13 Then David and his men, about 600, arose and left Keilah, going wherever they could go. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he gave up going there.
14 David remained in the wilderness strongholds in the hill country of the Wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God did not give him into his hands.
15 David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the Wilderness of Ziph in the wood at Horesh.
16 And Jonathan, Saul's son, rose and went into the wood to David at Horesh and strengthened his hand in God.
17 He said to him, Fear not; the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Saul my father knows that too.
18 And the two of them made a covenant before the Lord. And David remained in the wood at Horesh, and Jonathan went to his house.
19 Then the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, Does not David hide himself with us in strongholds in the wood at Horesh, on the hill of Hachilah, which is south of Jeshimon?
20 Now come down, O king, according to all your heart's desire to come down, and our part shall be to deliver him into the king's hands.
21 And Saul said, The Lord bless you, for you have compassion on me.
22 Go, make yet more sure; and know and see where his haunt is and who has seen him there; for I am told he deals very craftily.
23 See and take note of all his hiding places and come back to me with the certain facts, and I will go with you. If he is in the land, I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.
24 So they arose and went to Ziph ahead of Saul. Now David and his men were in the Wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah south of Jeshimon.
25 Saul and his men went to seek him. And David was told; so he went down to the rock in the Wilderness of Maon and stayed. When Saul heard that, he pursued David in the Wilderness of Maon.
26 And Saul went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain. And David made haste to get away for fear of Saul, for Saul and his men were surrounding him and his men to capture them.
27 But a messenger came to Saul, saying, Make haste and come, for the Philistines have made a raid on the land.
28 So Saul returned from pursuing David and went against the Philistines. So they called that place the Rock of Escape.
29 David went up from there and dwelt in the strongholds of En-gedi.
1 Then they told H5046 David H1732 L-NAME , saying H559 L-VQFC , Behold H2009 IJEC , the Philistines H6430 fight H3898 against Keilah H7084 , and they H1992 rob H8154 the threshingfloors H1637 .
2 Therefore David H1732 MMS inquired H7592 W-VQY3MS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS , saying H559 W-VQY3MS , Shall I go H1980 and smite H5221 these H428 D-DPRO-3MP Philistines H6430 ? And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP David H1732 MMS , Go H1980 VQI2MS , and smite H5221 the Philistines H6430 , and save H3467 Keilah H7084 .
3 And David H1732 \'s men H376 CMP said H559 W-VQY3MP unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Behold H2009 IJEC , we H587 PPRO-1MP be afraid H3372 here H6311 in Judah H3063 : how much H637 W-CONJ more then if H3588 CONJ we come H1980 to Keilah H7084 against H413 PREP the armies H4634 of the Philistines H6430 ?
4 Then David H1732 MMS inquired H7592 L-VQFC of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS yet H5750 ADV again H3254 . And the LORD H3068 EDS answered H6030 W-VQY3MS him and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Arise H6965 VQI2MS , go down H3381 to Keilah H7084 ; for H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS will deliver H5414 VQPMS the Philistines H6430 TMS into thine hand H3027 .
5 So David H1732 MMS and his men H376 went H1980 W-VQY3MS to Keilah H7084 , and fought H3898 with the Philistines H6430 , and brought away H5090 their cattle H4735 , and smote H5221 W-VHY3MS them with a great H1419 AFS slaughter H4347 . So David H1732 MMS saved H3467 W-VHY3MS the inhabitants H3427 of Keilah H7084 .
6 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when Abiathar H54 the son H1121 of Ahimelech H288 fled H1272 to H413 PREP David H1732 MMS to Keilah H7084 , that he came down H3381 VQQ3MS with an ephod H646 in his hand H3027 B-CFS-3MS .
7 And it was told H5046 Saul H7586 that H3588 CONJ David H1732 was come H935 to Keilah H7084 . And Saul H7586 said H559 W-VQY3MS , God H430 EDP hath delivered H5234 VPQ3MS him into mine hand H3027 B-CFS-1MS ; for H3588 CONJ he is shut in H5462 , by entering H935 L-VQFC into a town H5892 that hath gates H1817 and bars H1280 .
8 And Saul H7586 called H8085 all H3605 NMS the people H5971 together to war H4421 , to go down H3381 to Keilah H7084 , to besiege H6696 David H1732 MMS and his men H376 .
9 And David H1732 MMS knew H3045 W-VQY3MS that H3588 CONJ Saul H7586 secretly practiced H2790 mischief H7451 D-AFS against H5921 PREP-3MS him ; and he said H559 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP Abiathar H54 the priest H3548 , Bring hither H5066 the ephod H646 .
10 Then said H559 W-VQY3MS David H1732 MMS , O LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 , thy servant H5650 hath certainly heard H8085 that H3588 CONJ Saul H7586 seeketh H1245 to come H935 L-VQFC to H413 PREP Keilah H7084 , to destroy H7843 L-VPFC the city H5892 L-NMS for my sake H5668 .
11 Will the men H1167 of Keilah H7084 deliver me up H5462 into his hand H3027 ? will Saul H7586 come down H3381 , as H834 thy servant H5650 hath heard H8085 ? O LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 , I beseech thee H4994 IJEC , tell H5046 thy servant H5650 . And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS , He will come down H3381 .
12 Then said H559 W-VQY3MS David H1732 MMS , Will the men H1167 CMP of Keilah H7084 deliver H5462 me and my men H376 into the hand H3027 B-CFS of Saul H7586 ? And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS , They will deliver thee up H5462 .
13 Then David H1732 MMS and his men H376 NMS , which were about six H8337 hundred H3967 BFP , arose H6965 W-VQY3MS and departed H3318 W-VQY3MP out of Keilah H7084 , and went H1980 whithersoever H834 B-RPRO they could go H1980 . And it was told H5046 Saul H7586 that H3588 CONJ David H1732 MMS was escaped H4422 from Keilah H7084 ; and he forbore H2308 to go forth H3318 .
14 And David H1732 MMS abode H3427 W-VQY3MS in the wilderness H4057 in strongholds H4679 , and remained H3427 W-VQY3MS in a mountain H2022 in the wilderness H4057 of Ziph H2128 . And Saul H7586 sought H1245 him every H3605 NMS day H3117 D-NMP , but God H430 EDP delivered H5414 him not H3808 W-NPAR into his hand H3027 B-CFS-3MS .
15 And David H1732 saw H7200 W-VIY3MS that H3588 CONJ Saul H7586 was come out H3318 VQQ3MS to seek H1245 his life H5315 NMS-3MS : and David H1732 was in the wilderness H4057 of Ziph H2128 in a wood H2793 .
16 And Jonathan H3083 Saul H7586 \'s son H1121 arose H6965 W-VQY3MS , and went H1980 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP David H1732 MMS into the wood H2793 , and strengthened H2388 his hand H3027 CFS-3MS in God H430 .
17 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Fear H3372 not H408 NPAR : for H3588 CONJ the hand H3027 CFS of Saul H7586 my father H1 CMS-1MS shall not H3808 NADV find H4672 thee ; and thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS shalt be king H4427 over H5921 PREP Israel H3478 , and I H595 W-PPRO-1MS shall be H1961 VQY1MS next H4932 unto thee ; and that H3651 ADV also H1571 W-CONJ Saul H7586 my father H1 CMS-1MS knoweth H3045 VQPMS .
18 And they two H8147 ONUM-3MP made H3772 a covenant H1285 NFS before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS : and David H1732 MMS abode H3427 W-VQY3MS in the wood H2793 , and Jonathan H3083 went H1980 VQQ3MS to his house H1004 .
19 Then came up H5927 the Ziphites H2130 to H413 PREP Saul H7586 to Gibeah H1390 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Doth not H3808 D-NPAR David H1732 hide himself H5641 with H5973 PREP-1MP us in strongholds H4679 in the wood H2793 , in the hill H1389 of Hachilah H2444 , which H834 RPRO is on the south H3225 of Jeshimon H3452 ?
20 Now H6258 W-ADV therefore , O king H4428 D-NMS , come down H3381 according to all H3605 L-CMS the desire H185 of thy soul H5315 to come down H3381 ; and our part shall be to deliver H5462 him into the king H4428 \'s hand H3027 B-CFS .
21 And Saul H7586 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Blessed H1288 be ye H859 PPRO-2MS of the LORD H3068 L-EDS ; for H3588 CONJ ye have compassion H2550 on H5921 me .
22 Go H1980 VQI2MP , I pray you H4994 IJEC , prepare H3559 yet H5750 ADV , and know H3045 and see H7200 his place H4725 where H834 RPRO his haunt H7272 CFS-3MS is H1961 VQY2MS , and who H4310 IPRO hath seen H7200 him there H8033 ADV : for H3588 CONJ it is told H559 VQQ3MS me that he H1931 PPRO-3MS dealeth very subtlely H6191 .
23 See H7200 therefore , and take knowledge H3045 of all H3605 M-CMS the lurking places H4224 where H834 RPRO he hideth himself H2244 , and come ye again H7725 to H413 PREP me with H413 PREP the certainty H3559 NMS , and I will go H1980 with H854 PART-2MP you : and it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , if H518 PART he be W-VQQ3MS in the land H776 BD-GFS , that I will search him out H2664 throughout all H3605 the thousands H505 BMP of Judah H3063 .
24 And they arose H6965 , and went H1980 W-VQY3MP to Ziph H2128 before H6440 L-CMP Saul H7586 : but David H1732 and his men H376 were in the wilderness H4057 of Maon H4584 , in the plain H6160 on H413 PREP the south H3225 of Jeshimon H3452 .
25 Saul H7586 also and his men H376 went H1980 W-VQY3MS to seek H1245 him . And they told H5046 David H1732 L-NAME : wherefore he came down H3381 W-VQY3MS into a rock H5553 , and abode H3427 W-VQY3MS in the wilderness H4057 of Maon H4584 . And when Saul H7586 heard H8085 that , he pursued H7291 W-VQY3MS after H310 David H1732 L-NAME in the wilderness H4057 of Maon H4584 .
26 And Saul H7586 went H1980 W-VQY3MS on this side H2088 M-DPRO of the mountain H2022 , and David H1732 and his men H376 on that side H2088 M-DPRO of the mountain H2022 : and David H1732 made haste H1961 W-VQY3MS to get away H1980 L-VQFC for fear of M-CMP Saul H7586 ; for Saul H7586 and his men H376 compassed H5849 David H1732 MMS and his men H376 round about to take H8610 them .
27 But there came H935 VQPMS a messenger H4397 W-NMS unto H413 PREP Saul H7586 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Haste H4116 thee , and come H1980 ; for H3588 CONJ the Philistines H6430 have invaded H6584 the land H776 D-GFS .
28 Wherefore Saul H7586 returned H7725 from pursuing H7291 after H310 PREP David H1732 , and went H1980 W-VQY3MS against H7125 the Philistines H6430 TMS : therefore H3651 ADV they called H7121 that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS place H4725 Sela G5555 - hammahlekoth G5555 . .
29 And David H1732 MMS went up H5927 W-VHY3MS from thence H8033 M-ADV , and dwelt H3427 W-VQY3MS in strongholds H4679 at En H5872 - gedi .
