Isaiah 17:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 THE MOURNFUL, inspired prediction (a burden to be lifted up) concerning Damascus capital of Syria, and Israel's bulwark against Assyria. Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins.
2 The cities of Aroer east of the Jordan are forsaken; they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
3 His bulwark Syria and the fortress shall disappear from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus; and the remnant of Syria will be like the departed glory of the children of Israel her ally, says the Lord of hosts.
4 And in that day the former glory of Jacob Israel--his might, his population, his prosperity shall be enfeebled, and the fat of his flesh shall become lean.
5 And it shall be as when the reaper gathers the standing grain and his arm harvests the ears; yes, it shall be as when one gathers the ears of grain in the fertile Valley of Rephaim.
6 Yet gleanings of grapes shall be left in it the land of Israel, as after the beating of an olive tree with a stick, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outermost branches of the fruitful tree, says the Lord, the God of Israel.
7 In that day will men look to their Maker, and their eyes shall regard the Holy One of Israel.
8 And they will not look to the idolatrous altars, the work of their hands, neither will they have respect for what their fingers have made--either the Asherim symbols of the goddess Asherah or the sun-images.
9 In that day will their Syria's and Israel's strong cities be like the forsaken places in the wood and on the mountaintop, as they the Amorites and the Hivites forsook their cities because of the children of Israel; and there will be desolation.
10 Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation O Judah and have not been mindful of the Rock of your strength, your Stronghold--therefore, you have planted pleasant nursery grounds and plantings to Adonis, pots of quickly withered flowers used to set by their doors or in the courts of temples, and have set the grounds with vine slips of a strange God,
11 And in the day of your planting you hedge it in, and in the morning you make your seed to blossom, yet promising as it is the harvest shall be a heap of ruins and flee away in the day of expected possession and of desperate sorrow and sickening, incurable pain.
12 Hark, the uproar of a multitude of peoples! They roar and thunder like the noise of the seas! Ah, the roar of nations! They roar like the roaring of rushing and mighty waters!
13 The nations will rush and roar like the rushing and roaring of many waters--but God will rebuke them, and they will flee far off and will be chased like chaff on the mountains before the wind, and like rolling thistledown or whirling dust of the stubble before the storm.
14 At evening time, behold, terror! And before the morning, they the terrorizing Assyrians are not. This is the portion of those who strip us the Jews of what belongs to us, and the lot of those who rob us. Fulfilled in Isa. 37:36.

2 The cities H5892 of Aroer H6177 are forsaken H5800 : they shall be H1961 for flocks H5739 , which shall lie down H7257 , and none H369 W-NPAR shall make them afraid H2729 .
3 The fortress H4013 also shall cease H7673 from Ephraim H669 , and the kingdom H4467 from Damascus H1834 , and the remnant H7605 of Syria H758 EMS : they shall be H1961 as the glory H3519 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 .
4 And in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , that the glory H3519 of Jacob H3290 shall be made thin H1809 , and the fatness H4924 of his flesh H1320 CMS-3MS shall wax lean H7329 .
5 And it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS as when the harvest man H7105 NMS gathereth H622 the corn H7054 , and reapeth H7114 the ears H7641 with his arm H2220 ; and it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS as he that gathereth H3950 ears H7641 in the valley H6010 B-CMS of Rephaim H7497 .
6 Yet gleaning grapes H5955 shall be left H7604 in it , as the shaking H5363 of an olive tree H2132 NMS , two H8147 ONUM or three H7969 NFS berries H1620 in the top H7218 B-NMS of the uppermost bough H534 , four H702 MMS or five H2568 in the outermost fruitful H6509 branches H5585 thereof , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 LMS .
7 At that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS shall a man H120 D-NMS look H8159 to H5921 PREP his Maker H6213 , and his eyes H5869 W-CFD-3MS shall have respect H7200 to H413 PREP the Holy One H6918 of Israel H3478 .
8 And he shall not H3808 W-NPAR look H8159 to H413 PREP the altars H4196 , the work H4639 M-CMS of his hands H3027 CFD-3MS , neither H3808 W-NPAR shall respect H7200 VQY3MS that which H834 W-RPRO his fingers H676 have made H6213 VQQ3MP , either the groves H842 , or the images H2553 .
9 In that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS shall his strong H4581 cities H5892 be H1961 VQY3MP as a forsaken H5800 bough H2793 , and an uppermost branch H534 , which H834 RPRO they left H5800 because H6440 M-CMP of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 : and there shall be H1961 W-VQQ3FS desolation H8077 .
10 Because H3588 CONJ thou hast forgotten H7911 the God H430 CDP of thy salvation H3468 , and hast not H3808 NADV been mindful H2142 of the rock H6697 W-NMS of thy strength H4581 , therefore H3651 ADV shalt thou plant H5193 pleasant H5282 plants H5194 , and shalt set H2232 it with strange H2114 VQPMS slips H2156 :
11 In the day H3117 B-NMS shalt thou make thy plant H5194 to grow H7735 , and in the morning H1242 shalt thou make thy seed H2233 to flourish H6524 : but the harvest H7105 NMS shall be a heap H5067 in the day H3117 B-NMS of grief H2470 and of desperate H605 sorrow H3511 .
12 Woe H1945 to the multitude H1995 of many H7227 AMP people H5971 NMP , which make a noise H1993 like the noise H1993 of the seas H3220 NMP ; and to the rushing H7588 of nations H3816 , that make a rushing H7582 like the rushing H7588 of mighty H3524 AMP waters H4325 OMD !
13 The nations H3816 shall rush H7582 like the rushing H7588 of many H7227 AMP waters H4325 OMD : but God shall rebuke H1605 them , and they shall flee H5127 far off H4801 , and shall be chased H7291 as the chaff H4671 of the mountains H2022 NMP before H6440 L-CMP the wind H7307 NFS , and like a rolling thing H1534 before H6440 L-CMP the whirlwind H5492 NFS .
14 And behold H2009 IJEC at eveningtide H6256 L-CMS trouble H1091 ; and before H2962 B-ADV the morning H1242 NMS he is not H369 . This H2088 DPRO is the portion H2506 CMS of them that spoil H8154 us , and the lot H1486 of them that rob H962 us .
