Isaiah 7:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 IN THE days of Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel went up to Jerusalem to wage war against it, but they could not conquer it.
2 And the house of David Judah was told, Syria is allied with Ephraim Israel. And the heart of Ahaz and the hearts of his people trembled and shook, as the trees of the forest tremble and shake with the wind.
3 Then said the Lord to Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Judah's King Ahaz, you and your son Shear-jashub a remnant shall return, at the end of the aqueduct or canal of the Upper Pool on the highway to the Fuller's Field;
4 And say to him, Take heed and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted because of these two stumps of smoking firebrands--at the fierce anger of the Syrian King Rezin and Syria and of the son of Remaliah Pekah, usurper of the throne of Israel.
5 Because Syria, Ephraim Israel, and the son of Remaliah have purposed evil against you Judah, saying,
6 Let us go up against Judah and harass and terrify it; and let us cleave it asunder each of us taking a portion, and set a vassal king in the midst of it, namely the son of Tabeel,
7 Thus says the Lord God: It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.
8 For the head the capital of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is King Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be broken to pieces so that it will no longer be a people.
9 And the head (the capital) of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son Pekah. If you will not believe and trust and rely on God and on the words of God's prophet instead of Assyria, surely you will not be established nor will you remain.
10 Moreover, the Lord spoke again to King Ahaz, saying,
11 Ask for yourself a sign (a token or proof) of the Lord your God one that will convince you that God has spoken and will keep His word; ask it either in the depth below or in the height above let it be as deep as Sheol or as high as heaven.
12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord.
13 And Isaiah said, Hear then, O house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary and try the patience of men, but will you weary and try the patience of my God also?
14 Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: Behold, the young woman who is unmarried and a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel God with us. Isa. 9:6; Jer. 31:22; Mic. 5:3-5; Matt. 1:22, 23.
15 Butter and curds and wild honey shall he eat when he knows enough to refuse the evil and choose the good.
16 For before the child shall know enough to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land Canaan whose two kings you abhor and of whom you are in sickening dread shall be forsaken both Ephraim and Syria. Isa. 7:2.
17 The Lord shall bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father's house such days as have not come since the day that Ephraim the ten northern tribes departed from Judah--even the king of Assyria.
18 And in that day the Lord shall whistle for the fly the numerous and troublesome foe that is in the whole extent of the canal country of Egypt and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
19 And these enemies like flies and bees shall come and shall rest all of them in the desolate and rugged valleys and deep ravines and in the clefts of the rocks, and on all the thornbushes and on all the pastures.
20 In the same day will the people of Judah be utterly stripped of belongings, the Lord will shave with the razor that is hired from the parts beyond the River Euphrates--even with the king of Assyria--that razor will shave the head and the hair of the legs, and it shall also consume the beard leaving Judah with open shame and scorn. II Kings 16:7, 8; 18:13-16.
21 And because of the desolation brought on by the invaders in that day, a man will be so poor that he will keep alive only a young milk cow and two sheep.
22 And because of the abundance of milk that they will give, he will eat butter and curds, for only butter and curds and wild honey no vegetables shall everyone eat who is left in the land these products provided from the extensive pastures and the plentiful wild flowers upon which the bees depend.
23 And in that day, in every place where there used to be a thousand vines worth a thousand silver shekels, there will be briers and thorns.
24 With arrows and with bows shall a man come to hunt there, because all the land will be briers and thorns.
25 And as for all the hills that were formerly cultivated with mattock and hoe, you will not go there for fear of briers and thorns; but they will become a place where oxen are let loose to pasture and where sheep tread.
1 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS in the days H3117 B-CMP of Ahaz H271 the son H1121 of Jotham H3147 , the son H1121 of Uzziah H5818 , king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 , that Rezin H7526 the king H4428 NMS of Syria H758 EMS , and Pekah H6492 the son H1121 of Remaliah H7425 , king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 , went up H5927 toward Jerusalem H3389 to war H4421 against H5921 PREP-3FS it , but could H3201 not H3808 W-NPAR prevail H3898 against H5921 it .
2 And it was told H5046 the house H1004 of David H1732 MMS , saying H559 L-VQFC , Syria H758 EMS is confederate H5117 with H5921 PREP Ephraim H669 . And his heart H3824 was moved H5128 , and the heart H3824 of his people H5971 , as the trees H6086 CMP of the wood H3293 are moved H5128 with M-CMP the wind H7307 NMS .
3 Then said H559 W-VQY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS unto H413 PREP Isaiah H3470 , Go forth H3318 VQI2MS now H4994 IJEC to meet H7121 Ahaz H271 , thou H859 PPRO-2MS , and Shear H7610 - jashub thy son H1121 , at H413 PREP the end H7097 of the conduit H8585 of the upper H5945 pool H1295 in H413 PREP the highway H4546 of the fuller H3526 \'s field H7704 CMS ;
4 And say H559 unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Take heed H8104 , and be quiet H8252 ; fear H3372 not H408 NPAR , neither H408 NPAR be fainthearted H7401 for the two H8147 tails H2180 of these H428 D-DPRO-3MP smoking H6226 firebrands H181 , for the fierce H2750 anger H639 CMS of Rezin H7526 with Syria H758 , and of the son H1121 W-CMS of Remaliah H7425 .
5 Because H3282 ADV Syria H758 EMS , Ephraim H669 , and the son H1121 W-CMS of Remaliah H7425 , have taken evil H7451 AFS counsel H3289 against H5921 PREP-2MS thee , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
6 Let us go up H5927 against Judah H3063 , and vex H6972 it , and let us make a breach H1234 therein for H413 us , and set a king H4427 in the midst H8432 of it , even the son H1121 of Tabeal H2870 :
7 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 , It shall not H3808 NADV stand H6965 VQY3FS , neither H3808 W-NADV shall it come to pass H1961 .
8 For H3588 CONJ the head H7218 NMS of Syria H758 EMS is Damascus H1834 , and the head H7218 of Damascus H1834 is Rezin H7526 ; and within H5750 threescore H8346 and five H2568 years H8141 NFS shall Ephraim H669 be broken H2844 , that it be not a people H5971 .
9 And the head H7218 of Ephraim H669 is Samaria H8111 , and the head H7218 of Samaria H8111 is Remaliah H7425 \'s son H1121 . If H518 PART ye will not H3808 NADV believe H539 , surely H3588 CONJ ye shall not H3808 NADV be established H539 .
10 Moreover the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 VPFC again H3254 unto H413 PREP Ahaz H271 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
11 Ask H7592 VQI2MS thee a sign H226 NMS of M-PREP the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS ; ask H7592 VQI2MS it either in the depth H6009 , or H176 CONJ in the height H1361 above H4605 .
12 But Ahaz H271 said H559 W-VQY3MS , I will not H3808 NADV ask H7592 , neither H3808 ADV will I tempt H5254 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
13 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Hear H8085 VQI2MP ye now H4994 IJEC , O house H1004 CMS of David H1732 MMS ; Is it a small thing H4592 D-AMS for H4480 M-PPRO-2MS you to weary H3811 men H376 NMP , but H3588 CONJ will ye weary H3811 my God H430 CMP-1MS also H1571 CONJ ?
14 Therefore H3651 L-ADV the Lord H136 EDS himself H1931 PPRO-3MS shall give H5414 VHFA you a sign H226 NMS ; Behold H2009 IJEC , a virgin H5959 shall conceive H2029 , and bear H3205 a son H1121 NMS , and shall call H7121 his name H8034 CMS-3MS Immanuel H6005 .
15 Butter H2529 and honey H1706 shall he eat H398 VQY3MS , that he may know H3045 to refuse H3988 the evil H7451 , and choose H977 the good H2896 .
16 For H3588 CONJ before H2962 B-ADV the child H5288 shall know H3045 to refuse H3988 the evil H7451 , and choose H977 the good H2896 BD-NMS , the land H127 D-NFS that H834 RPRO thou H859 PPRO-2MS abhorrest H6973 shall be forsaken H5800 of both H8147 ONUM her kings H4428 .
17 The LORD H3068 EDS shall bring H935 VQQ3MP upon H5921 M-PREP thee , and upon H5921 M-PREP thy people H5971 , and upon H5921 M-PREP thy father H1 NMS \'s house H1004 CMS , days H3117 NMP that H834 RPRO have not H3808 NADV come H935 VQQ3MP , from the day H3117 that Ephraim H669 departed H5493 VQI2MS from M-PREP Judah H3063 ; even the king H4428 NMS of Assyria H804 .
18 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS , that the LORD H3068 EDS shall hiss H8319 for the fly H2070 that H834 RPRO is in the uttermost part H7097 of the rivers H2975 of Egypt H4714 , and for the bee H1682 that H834 RPRO is in the land H776 B-GFS of Assyria H804 .
19 And they shall come H935 , and shall rest H5117 all H3605 of them in the desolate H1327 valleys H5158 , and in the holes H5357 of the rocks H5553 , and upon all H3605 thorns H5285 , and upon all H3605 bushes H5097 .
20 In the same H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS shall the Lord H136 EDS shave H1548 with a razor H8593 that is hired H7917 , namely , by them beyond H5676 the river H5104 NMS , by the king H4428 of Assyria H804 GFS , the head H7218 , and the hair H8181 of the feet H7272 : and it shall also H1571 W-CONJ consume H5595 the beard H2206 .
21 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS , that a man H376 NMS shall nourish H2421 VPY3MS a young H1241 NMS cow H5697 , and two H8147 sheep H6629 ;
22 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , for the abundance H7230 M-NMS of milk H2461 NMS that they shall give H6213 VQFC he shall eat H398 VQY3MS butter H2529 : for H3588 CONJ butter H2529 and honey H1706 shall every one H3605 NMS eat H398 VQY3MS that is left H3498 in the land H776 D-GFS .
23 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS , that every H3605 CMS place H4725 NUM-MS shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS , where H8033 there were H1961 W-VQQ3MS a thousand H505 W-BMS vines H1612 at a thousand H505 silverlings H3701 NMS , it shall even be H1961 W-VQQ3MS for briers H8068 and thorns H7898 .
24 With arrows H2671 and with bows H7198 shall men come H935 VQY3MS thither H8033 ADV-3FS ; because H3588 CONJ all H3605 CMS the land H776 D-GFS shall become H1961 VQY2MS briers H8068 and thorns H7898 .
25 And on all H3605 W-CMS hills H2022 that H834 RPRO shall be digged H5737 with the mattock H4576 , there shall not H3808 ADV come H935 VQY3FS thither H8033 ADV-3FS the fear H3374 CFS of briers H8068 and thorns H7898 : but it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS for the sending forth H4916 of oxen H7794 CMS , and for the treading H4823 of lesser cattle H7716 .
