Job 15:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 THEN ELIPHAZ the Temanite answered Job,
2 Should a wise man utter such windy knowledge as we have just heard and fill himself with the east wind of withering, parching, and violent accusations?
3 Should he reason with unprofitable talk? Or with speeches with which he can do no good?
4 Indeed, you are doing away with reverential fear, and you are hindering and diminishing meditation and devotion before God.
5 For your iniquity teaches your mouth, and you choose the tongue of the crafty.
6 Your own mouth condemns you, and not I; yes, your own lips testify against you.
7 Are you the first man that was born the original wise man? Or were you created before the hills?
8 Were you present to hear the secret counsel of God? And do you limit the possession of wisdom to yourself?
9 What do you know that we know not? What do you understand that is not equally clear to us?
10 Among us are both the gray-haired and the aged, older than your father by far.
11 Are God's consolations as we have interpreted them to you too trivial for you? Is there any secret thing (any bosom sin) which you have not given up? Or were we too gentle in our first speech toward you to be effective?
12 Why does your heart carry you away why allow yourself to be controlled by feeling? And why do your eyes flash in anger or contempt,
13 That you turn your spirit against God and let such words as you have spoken go out of your mouth?
14 What is man, that he could be pure and clean? And he who is born of a woman, that he could be right and just?
15 Behold, God puts no trust in His holy ones the angels; indeed, the heavens are not clean in His sight--
16 How much less that which is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks iniquity like water?
17 I will show you, hear me; and that which I have seen I will relate,
18 What wise men have not hid but have freely communicated; it was told to them by their fathers,
19 Unto whom alone the land was given, and no stranger intruded or passed among them corrupting the truth.
20 The wicked man suffers with self-inflicted torment all his days, through all the years that are numbered and laid up for him, the oppressor.
21 A dreadful sound of terrors is in his ears; in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him the dwellings of robbers are not at peace.
22 He believes that he will not return out of darkness, and because of his guilt he is waited for by the sword of God's vengeance.
23 He wanders abroad for food, saying, Where is it? He knows that the day of darkness and destruction is already close upon him.
24 Distress and anguish terrify him; he knows they shall prevail against him, like a king ready for battle.
25 Because he has stretched out his hand against God and bids defiance and behaves himself proudly against the Almighty,
26 Running stubbornly against Him with a thickly ornamented shield;
27 Because he has covered his face with his fat, adding layers of fat on his loins giving himself up to animal pleasures,
28 And has lived in desolate God-forsaken cities and in houses which no man should inhabit, which were destined to become heaps of ruins;
29 He shall not be rich, neither shall his wealth last, neither shall his produce bend to the earth nor his possessions be extended on the earth.
30 He shall not depart out of darkness and escape from calamity; the wrath of God shall consume him as flame consumes a dry tree, and by the blast of His mouth he shall be swept away.
31 Let him not deceive himself and trust in vanity (emptiness, falseness, and futility), for these shall be his recompense for such living.
32 It shall be accomplished and paid in full while he still lives, and his branch shall not be green but shall wither away.
33 He shall fail to bring his grapes to maturity leaving them to wither unnourished on the vine and shall cast off blossoms and fail to bring forth fruit like the olive tree.
34 For the company of the godless shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery (wrong and injustice).
35 They conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity, and their inmost soul hatches deceit.

2 Should a wise H2450 I-AMS man utter H6030 VQY3MS vain H7307 NFS knowledge H1847 CFS , and fill H4390 W-VPY3MS his belly H990 CFS-3MS with the east wind H6921 NMP ?
3 Should he reason H3198 VHFA with unprofitable H5532 VQY3MS talk H1697 B-NMS ? or with speeches H4405 W-NFP wherewith he can do no H3808 NADV good H3276 VHY3MS ?
4 Yea H637 CONJ , thou H859 PPRO-2MS castest off H6565 VHY2MS fear H3374 NFS , and restrainest H1639 W-VQY2MS prayer H7881 NFS before H6440 L-CMP God H410 NMS .
5 For H3588 CONJ thy mouth H6310 CMS-2MS uttereth H502 VPY3MS thine iniquity H5771 CMS-2MS , and thou choosest H977 W-VQY2MS the tongue H3956 L-CMS of the crafty H6175 AMP .
6 Thine own mouth H6310 CMS-2MS condemneth H7561 VHY3MS-2MS thee , and not H3808 W-NPAR I H589 PPRO-1MS : yea , thine own lips H8193 W-CFD-2MS testify H6030 VQY3MP against thee .
7 Art thou the first H7223 D-AMS man H120 NMS that was born H3205 VNY2MS ? or wast thou made H2342 VUQ2MS before H6440 WL-CMP the hills H1389 NFP ?
8 Hast thou heard H8085 VQY2MS the secret H5475 DB-CMS of God H433 EDS ? and dost thou restrain H1639 W-VQY2FS wisdom H2451 NFS to H413 PREP-2MS thyself ?
9 What H4100 IPRO knowest H3045 VQQ2MS thou , that we know H3045 VQY1MP not H3808 W-NPAR ? what understandest H995 VQY2MS thou , which H1931 PPRO-3MS is not H3808 W-NPAR in H5973 PREP-1MP us ?
10 With us are both H1571 CONJ the grayheaded H7867 VQPMS and H1571 CONJ very aged men H3453 AMS , much elder H3524 AMS than thy father H1 M-CMS-2MS .
11 Are the consolations H8575 CMP of God H410 EDS small H4592 D-AMS with H4480 PREP-2MS thee ? is there any secret H328 L-ADV thing H1697 W-NMS with H5973 PREP-2FS thee ?
12 Why H4100 IPRO doth thine heart H3820 CMS-2MS carry thee away H3947 VQY3MS-2MS ? and what H4100 IPRO do thy eyes H5869 CMD-2MS wink at H7335 VQY3MP-3FP ,
13 That H3588 CONJ thou turnest H7725 VHY2MS thy spirit H7307 CMS-2MS against H413 PREP God H410 EDS , and lettest such words H4405 CFP-3FP go out H3318 W-VHQ2MS of thy mouth H6310 M-CMS-2MS ?
14 What H4100 IGAT is man H582 NMS , that H3588 CONJ he should be clean H2135 VQY3MS ? and he which is born H3205 VWCMS of a woman H802 NFS , that H3588 CONJ he should be righteous H6663 VQY3MS ?
15 Behold H2005 IJEC , he putteth no trust H539 VHY3MS in his saints H6918 B-JMS-3MS ; yea , the heavens H8064 W-NMP are not H3808 NADV clean H2141 VQQ3MP in his sight H5869 B-CMD-3MS .
16 How much more H637 CONJ abominable H8581 VNPMS and filthy H444 W-VNPMS is man H376 NMS , which drinketh H8354 VQPMS iniquity H5766 NFS like water H4325 KD-NMP ?
17 I will show H2331 VPI1MS-2MS thee , hear H8085 VQI2MS me ; and that H2088 W-PMS which I have seen H2372 VQQ1MS I will declare H5608 W-VPI1MS ;
18 Which H834 RPRO wise H2450 AMP men have told H5046 VHY3MP from their fathers H1 M-CMP-3MP , and have not H3808 W-NPAR hid H3582 VPQ3MP it :
19 Unto whom alone H905 L-CMS-3MP the earth H776 D-GFS was given H5414 VNQ3FS , and no H3808 W-NPAR stranger H2114 VQPMS passed H5674 VQQ3MS among H8432 B-CMS-3MP them .
20 The wicked man H7563 AMS travaileth with pain H2342 VTPMS all H3605 NMS his days H3117 CMP , and the number H4557 W-CMS of years H8141 NFP is hidden H6845 VNP3MP to the oppressor H6184 LD-AMS .
21 A dreadful H6343 NMP sound H6963 CMS is in his ears H241 B-CMD-3MS : in prosperity H7965 BD-NMS the destroyer H7703 VQPMS shall come upon H935 VQY3MS-3MS him .
22 He believeth H539 VHY3MS not H3808 NADV that he shall return H7725 VQFC out of H4480 PREP-1MS darkness H2822 NMS , and he H1931 PPRO-3MS is waited for H6822 W-VWPMS of H413 PREP the sword H2719 GFS .
23 He H1931 PPRO-3MS wandereth abroad H5074 VQPMS for bread H3899 LD-NMS , saying , Where H346 is it ? he knoweth H3045 VQQ3MS that H3588 CONJ the day H3117 NMS of darkness H2822 NMS is ready H3559 NMS at his hand H3027 B-CFS-3MS .
24 Trouble H6862 AMS and anguish H4691 W-NFS shall make him afraid H1204 VPY3MP-3MS ; they shall prevail against H8630 VQY2MS-3MS him , as a king H4428 K-NMS ready H6264 AMS to the battle H3593 LD-NMS .
25 For H3588 CONJ he stretcheth out H5186 VQQ3MS his hand H3027 CFS-3MS against H413 PREP God H410 EDS , and strengtheneth himself H1396 VHY3MS against H413 PREP the Almighty H7706 EDS .
26 He runneth H7323 VQY3MS upon H413 PREP-3MS him , even on his neck H6677 B-NMS , upon the thick H5672 B-CMS bosses H1354 CMP of his bucklers H4043 CMP-3MS :
27 Because H3588 CONJ he covereth H3680 VPQ3MS his face H6440 CMS-3MS with his fatness H2459 B-CMS-3MS , and maketh H6213 W-VQY3MS collops of fat H6371 NFS on H5921 PREP his flanks H3689 NMS .
28 And he dwelleth in H7931 W-VQY3MS desolate H3582 VNPFP cities H5892 GFP , and in houses which H1004 NMP no H3808 NADV man inhabiteth H3427 VQY3MP , which H834 RPRO are ready H6257 VTQ3MP to become heaps H1530 L-NMP .
29 He shall not H3808 ADV be rich H6238 VQY3MS , neither H3808 W-NADV shall his substance H2428 CMS-3MS continue H6965 VQY3MS , neither H3808 ADV shall he prolong H5186 VQY3MS the perfection H4512 CMS-3MP thereof upon the earth H776 LD-NFS .
30 He shall not H3808 ADV depart H5493 VQY3MS out of H4480 PREP-1MS darkness H2822 NMS ; the flame H7957 NFS shall dry up H3001 VPY3FS his branches H3127 CFS-3MS , and by the breath H7307 B-CMS of his mouth H6310 CMS-3MS shall he go away H5493 W-VQY3MS .
31 Let not H408 NPAR him that is deceived H8582 VNQ3MS trust H539 VHI3MS in vanity H7723 BD-NMS : for H3588 CONJ vanity H7723 NMS shall be H1961 VQY3FS his recompense H8545 CFS-3MS .
32 It shall be accomplished H4390 VNY3FS before H3808 ADV his time H3117 CMS-3MS , and his branch H3712 W-CFS-3MS shall not H3808 NADV be green H7488 VPQ3FS .
33 He shall shake off H2554 VQY3MS his unripe grape H1154 CMS-3MS as the vine H1612 KD-NMS , and shall cast off H7993 W-VHI3MS his flower H5328 CFS-3MS as the olive H2132 KD-NMS .
34 For H3588 CONJ the congregation H5712 CFS of hypocrites H2611 NMS shall be desolate H1565 AMS , and fire H784 W-NMS shall consume H398 VQQ3FS the tabernacles H168 CMP of bribery H7810 NMS .
35 They conceive H2029 VQFA mischief H5999 NMS , and bring forth H3205 W-VQFA vanity H205 NMS , and their belly H990 W-CFS-3MP prepareth H3559 VHY3FS deceit H4820 NFS .
