1 Samuel 2:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 HANNAH PRAYED, and said, My heart exults and triumphs in the Lord; my horn (my strength) is lifted up in the Lord. My mouth is no longer silent, for it is opened wide over my enemies, because I rejoice in Your salvation.
2 There is none holy like the Lord, there is none besides You; there is no Rock like our God.
3 Talk no more so very proudly; let not arrogance go forth from your mouth, for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed.
4 The bows of the mighty are broken, and those who stumbled are girded with strength.
5 Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, but those who were hungry have ceased to hunger. The barren has borne seven, but she who has many children languishes and is forlorn.
6 The Lord slays and makes alive; He brings down to Sheol and raises up.
7 The Lord makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and He lifts up.
8 He raises up the poor out of the dust and lifts up the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with nobles and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord's, and He has set the world upon them.
9 He will guard the feet of His godly ones, but the wicked shall be silenced and perish in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.
10 The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces; against them will He thunder in heaven. The Lord will judge all peoples to the ends of the earth; and He will give strength to His king (King) and exalt the power of His anointed (Anointed His Christ). Luke 1:46.
11 Elkanah and his wife Hannah returned to Ramah to his house. But the child ministered to the Lord before Eli the priest.
12 The sons of Eli were base and worthless; they did not know or regard the Lord.
13 And the custom of the priests with the people was this: when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came while the flesh was boiling with a fleshhook of three prongs in his hand;
14 And he thrust it into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh with all the Israelites who came there.
15 Also, before they burned the fat, the priest's servant came and said to the man who sacrificed, Give the priest meat to roast, for he will not accept boiled meat from you, but raw.
16 And if the man said to him, Let them burn the fat first, and then you may take as much as you want, the priest's servant would say, No! Give it to me now or I will take it by force.
17 So the sin of the two young men was very great before the Lord, for they despised the offering of the Lord.
18 But Samuel ministered before the Lord, a child girded with a linen ephod.
19 Moreover, his mother made him a little robe and brought it to him from year to year when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
20 And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, May the Lord give you children by this woman for the gift she asked for and gave to the Lord. Then they would go to their own home.
21 And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she bore three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the Lord.
22 Now Eli was very old, and he heard all that his sons did to all Israel and how they lay with the women who served at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
23 And he said to them, Why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings from all the people.
24 No, my sons; it is no good report which I hear the Lord's people spreading abroad.
25 If one man wrongs another, God will mediate for him; but if a man wrongs the Lord, who shall intercede for him? Yet they did not listen to their father, for it was the Lord's will to slay them.
26 Now the boy Samuel grew and was in favor both with the Lord and with men.
27 A man of God came to Eli and said to him, Thus has the Lord said: I plainly revealed Myself to the house of your father forefather Aaron when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh's house.
28 Moreover, I selected him out of all the tribes of Israel to be My priest, to offer on My altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before Me. And I gave from then on to the house of your father forefather all the offerings of the Israelites made by fire.
29 Why then do you kick trample upon, treat with contempt My sacrifice and My offering which I commanded, and honor your sons above Me by fattening yourselves upon the choicest part of every offering of My people Israel?
30 Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, says, I did promise that your house and that of your father forefather Aaron should go in and out before Me forever. But now the Lord says, Be it far from Me. For those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.
31 Behold, the time is coming when I will cut off your strength and the strength of your own father's house, that there shall not be an old man in your house.
32 And you shall behold the distress of My house, even in all the prosperity which God will give Israel, and there shall not be an old man in your house forever.
33 Yet I will not cut off from My altar every man of yours; some shall survive to weep and mourn over the family's ruin, but all the increase of your house shall die in their best years. I Sam. 22:17-20.
34 And what befalls your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, shall be a sign to you--in one day they both shall die. Fulfilled in I Sam. 4:17, 18.
35 And I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest (Priest), who shall do according to what is in My heart and mind. And I will build him a sure house, and he shall walk before My anointed (Anointed) forever. I Sam. 2:10.
36 Everyone who is left in your house shall come crouching to him for a piece of silver and a bit of bread and say, Put me, I pray you, into a priest's office so I may have a piece of bread.
1 And Hannah H2584 prayed H6419 , and said H559 , My heart H3820 NMS-1MS rejoiceth H5970 in the LORD H3068 , mine horn H7161 is exalted H7311 VQPFS in the LORD H3068 : my mouth H6310 is enlarged H7337 over H5921 PREP mine enemies H341 ; because H3588 CONJ I rejoice H8055 in thy salvation H3444 .
2 There is none H369 NPAR holy H6918 as the LORD H3068 : for H3588 CONJ there is none H369 NPAR beside H1115 thee : neither H369 W-NPAR is there any rock H6697 NMS like our God H430 .
3 Talk H1696 no H408 NPAR more H7235 so exceeding proudly H1364 ; let not arrogance H6277 come out H3318 VQY3MS of your mouth H6310 : for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS is a God H410 EDS of knowledge H1844 NFP , and by him actions H5949 are weighed H8505 .
4 The bows H7198 CFS of the mighty men H1368 are broken H2844 , and they that stumbled H3782 are girded H247 with strength H2428 NMS .
5 They that were full H7649 have hired out themselves H7936 for bread H3899 ; and they that were hungry H7457 ceased H2308 : so that H5704 PREP the barren H6135 AFS hath born H3205 seven H7651 NUM-MS ; and she that hath many H7227 children H1121 NMP is waxed feeble H535 .
6 The LORD H3068 EDS killeth H4191 , and maketh alive H2421 : he bringeth down H3381 to the grave H7585 NMS , and bringeth up H5927 .
7 The LORD H3068 EDS maketh poor H3423 , and maketh rich H6238 : he bringeth low H8213 , and H637 CONJ lifteth up H7311 .
8 He raiseth up H6965 VHPMS the poor H1800 CMS out of the dust H6083 M-NMS , and lifteth up H7311 VHY3MS the beggar H34 from the dunghill H830 , to set H3427 them among H5973 PREP princes H5081 AMP , and to make them inherit H5157 the throne H3678 of glory H3519 : for H3588 CONJ the pillars H4690 of the earth H776 GFS are the LORD H3068 L-EDS \'s , and he hath set H7896 the world H8398 upon H5921 PREP-3MP them .
9 He will keep H8104 VQY3MS the feet H7272 of his saints H2623 W-NMS , and the wicked H7563 shall be silent H1826 in darkness H2822 BD-NMS ; for H3588 CONJ by strength H3581 shall no H3808 NADV man H376 NMS prevail H1396 .
10 The adversaries H7378 of the LORD H3068 EDS shall be broken to pieces H2865 ; out of heaven H8064 BD-NMP shall he thunder H7481 VHI3MS upon H5921 them : the LORD H3068 EDS shall judge H1777 VQY3MS the ends H657 of the earth H776 NFS ; and he shall give H5414 strength H5797 NMS unto his king H4428 , and exalt H7311 the horn H7161 of his anointed H4899 JMS-3MS .
11 And Elkanah H511 went H1980 W-VQY3MS to Ramah H7414 to H5921 PREP his house H1004 NMS-3MS . And the child H5288 did H1961 VQQ3MS minister H8334 unto the LORD H3068 EDS before H6440 CMP Eli H5941 the priest H3548 .
12 Now the sons H1121 W-CMP of Eli H5941 were sons H1121 W-CMP of Belial H1100 ; they knew H3045 VQQ3MP not H3808 NADV the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
13 And the priests H3548 \' custom H4941 W-CMS with H854 PREP the people H5971 was , that , when any H3605 NMS man H376 NMS offered H2076 sacrifice H2077 NMS , the priest H3548 \'s servant H5288 came H935 , while the flesh H1320 D-NMS was in seething H1310 , with a fleshhook H4207 of three H7969 BFS teeth H8127 in his hand H3027 B-CFS-3MS ;
14 And he struck H5221 it into the pan H3595 , or H176 CONJ kettle H1731 , or H176 CONJ caldron H7037 , or H176 CONJ pot H6517 ; all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO the fleshhook H4207 brought up H5927 VQY3MS the priest H3548 took H3947 for himself . So H3602 ADV they did H6213 in Shiloh H7887 unto all H3605 NMS the Israelites H3478 that came H935 thither H8033 ADV .
15 Also H1571 CONJ before H2962 B-ADV they burnt H6999 the fat H2459 , the priest H3548 \'s servant H5288 came H935 , and said H559 to the man H376 LD-NMS that sacrificed H2076 , Give H5414 flesh H1320 NMS to roast H6740 for the priest H3548 ; for he will not H3808 W-NPAR have H3947 sodden flesh H1320 NMS of H4480 PREP-2MS thee , but H518 PART raw H2416 AMS .
16 And if any man H376 D-NMS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Let them not fail to burn H6999 the fat H2459 presently H3117 , and then take H3947 as much as H834 K-RPRO thy soul H5315 desireth H183 ; then he would answer H559 W-VQY3MS him , Nay ; but H3588 CONJ thou shalt give H5414 it me now H6258 ADV : and if H518 W-PART not H3808 NADV , I will take H3947 it by force H2394 .
17 Wherefore the sin H2403 of the young men H5288 D-NMP was H1961 W-VQY3FS very H3966 ADV great H1419 AMS-3FS before H6440 CMP the LORD H3068 EDS : for H3588 CONJ men H376 abhorred H5006 the offering H4503 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
18 But Samuel H8050 ministered H8334 before H6440 CMP the LORD H3068 EDS , being a child H5288 , girded H2296 with a linen H906 ephod H646 .
19 Moreover his mother H517 GFS-3MS made H6213 VQY2MS him a little H6996 AMS coat H4598 , and brought H5927 it to him from year to year H3117 , when she came up H5927 with H854 PREP her husband H376 to offer H2076 the yearly H3117 sacrifice H2077 NMS .
20 And Eli H5941 blessed H1288 Elkanah H511 and his wife H802 CFS-3MS , and said H559 , The LORD H3068 EDS give H7760 VQI3MS thee seed H2233 NMS of H4480 PREP this H2063 D-DFS woman H802 D-NFS for H8478 NMS the loan H7596 which H834 RPRO is lent H7592 to the LORD H3068 L-EDS . And they went H1980 W-VQQ3MP unto their own home H4725 .
21 And H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS visited H6485 VQQ3MS Hannah H2584 , so that she conceived H2029 W-VQY3FS , and bore H3205 W-VQY3FS three H7969 sons H1121 NMP and two H8147 daughters H1323 . And the child H5288 Samuel H8050 grew H1431 before H5973 PREP the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
22 Now Eli H5941 was very H3966 ADV old H2204 , and heard H8085 all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO his sons H1121 CMP-3MS did H6213 unto all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 ; and how H834 RPRO they lay H7901 with H854 PREP the women H802 D-NFP that assembled H6633 at the door H6607 CMS of the tabernacle H168 NMS of the congregation H4150 .
23 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto them , Why H4100 L-IPRO do H6213 ye such H428 DPRO things H1697 ? for H834 RPRO I H595 PPRO-1MS hear H8085 of your evil H7451 AMP dealings H1697 by all H3605 NMS this H428 DPRO people H5971 .
24 Nay H408 NPAR , my sons H1121 ; for H3588 CONJ it is no H3808 good H2896 NFS report H8052 that H834 RPRO I H595 PPRO-1MS hear H8085 : ye make the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS \'s people H5971 NMS to transgress H5674 .
25 If H518 PART one man H376 NMS sin H2398 against another H376 NMS , the judge H430 EDP shall judge H6419 him : but if H518 PART a man H376 NMS sin H2398 against the LORD H3068 L-EDS , who H4310 IPRO shall entreat H6419 for him ? Notwithstanding H3808 W-NPAR they hearkened H8085 VQY3MP not unto the voice H6963 L-CMS of their father H1 CMS-3MP , because H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS would H2654 slay H4191 them .
26 And the child H5288 Samuel H8050 grew H1980 on H1432 , and was in favor H2896 both H1571 CONJ with H5973 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS , and also H1571 W-CONJ with H5973 PREP men H376 NMP .
27 And there came H935 W-VQY3MS a man H376 NMS of God H430 EDP unto H413 PREP Eli H5941 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Thus H3541 saith H559 W-VQY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , Did I plainly appear H1540 unto H413 PREP the house H1004 CMS of thy father H1 NMS , when they were H1961 in Egypt H4714 in Pharaoh H6547 EMS \'s house H1004 ?
28 And did I choose H977 him out of all H3605 NMS the tribes H7626 of Israel H3478 to be my priest H3548 , to offer H5927 L-VQFC upon H5921 PREP mine altar H4196 , to burn H6999 incense H7004 , to wear H5375 an ephod H646 before H6440 me ? and did I give H5414 unto the house H1004 of thy father H1 NMS all H3605 NMS the offerings made by fire H801 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 LMS ?
29 Wherefore H4100 L-IPRO kick H1163 ye at my sacrifice H2077 and at mine offering H4503 , which H834 RPRO I have commanded H6680 in my habitation H4583 ; and honorest H3513 thy sons H1121 CMP-2MS above H4480 M-PREP-1MS me , to make yourselves fat H1254 with the chiefest H7225 of all H3605 NMS the offerings H4503 of Israel H3478 my people H5971 ?
30 Wherefore H3651 L-ADV the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 saith H5002 , I said H559 indeed H559 VQQ1MS that thy house H1004 W-NMS , and the house H1004 W-NMS of thy father H1 NMS , should walk H1980 before H6440 L-CMP me forever H5704 PREP : but now H6258 W-ADV the LORD H3068 EDS saith H5002 , Be it far H2486 IJEC-3FS from me ; for H3588 CONJ them that honor H3513 me I will honor H3513 , and they that despise H959 me shall be lightly esteemed H7043 .
31 Behold H2009 IJEC , the days H3117 NMP come H935 , that I will cut off H1438 thine arm H2220 , and the arm H2220 of thy father H1 NMS \'s house H1004 CMS , that there shall not be an old man H2205 PFS in thine house H1004 .
32 And thou shalt see H5027 an enemy H6862 AMS in my habitation H4583 , in all H3605 NMS the wealth which H834 RPRO God shall give H3190 Israel H3478 : and there shall not H3808 W-NPAR be H1961 VQY3MS an old man H2205 PFS in thine house H1004 forever H3117 D-NMP .
33 And the man H376 W-NMS of thine , whom I shall not H3808 ADV cut off H3772 from M-PREP mine altar H4196 , shall be to consume H3615 thine eyes H5869 CMD-2MS , and to grieve H109 thine heart H5315 : and all H3605 W-CMS the increase H4768 of thine house H1004 CMS-2MS shall die H4191 VQY3MP in the flower of their age H376 NMP .
34 And this H2088 W-PMS shall be a sign H226 unto thee , that H834 RPRO shall come H935 VQY3MS upon H413 PREP thy two H8147 ONUM sons H1121 CMP-2MS , on H413 PREP Hophni H2652 and Phinehas H6372 ; in one H259 MMS day H3117 B-NMS they shall die H4191 VQY3MP both H8147 of them .
35 And I will raise me up H6965 a faithful H539 priest H3548 , that shall do H6213 VQY3MS according to that which H834 K-RPRO is in mine heart H3824 and in my mind H5315 : and I will build H1129 him a sure H539 house H1004 NMS ; and he shall walk H1980 before H6440 mine anointed H4899 forever H3117 D-NMP .
36 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , that every one H3605 NMS that is left H3498 in thine house H1004 shall come H935 VQY3MS and crouch H7812 to him for a piece H95 of silver H3701 NMS and a morsel H3603 of bread H3899 NMS , and shall say H559 , Put H5596 me , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , into H413 PREP one H259 OFS of the priests\' offices H3550 , that I may eat H398 L-VQFC a piece H6595 of bread H3899 NMS .
