Mark 2:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 AND JESUS having returned to Capernaum, after some days it was rumored about that He was in the house probably Peter's.
2 And so many people gathered together there that there was no longer room for them, not even around the door; and He was discussing the Word.
3 Then they came, bringing a paralytic to Him, who had been picked up and was being carried by four men.
4 And when they could not get him to a place in front of Jesus because of the throng, they dug through the roof above Him; and when they had scooped out an opening, they let down the thickly padded quilt or mat upon which the paralyzed man lay.
5 And when Jesus saw their faith their confidence in God through Him, He said to the paralyzed man, Son, your sins are forgiven you and put away that is, the penalty is remitted, the sense of guilt removed, and you are made upright and in right standing with God.
6 Now some of the scribes were sitting there, holding a dialogue with themselves as they questioned in their hearts,
7 Why does this Man talk like this? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins remove guilt, remit the penalty, and bestow righteousness instead except God alone?
8 And at once Jesus, becoming fully aware in His spirit that they thus debated within themselves, said to them, Why do you argue (debate, reason) about all this in your hearts?
9 Which is easier: to say to the paralyzed man, Your sins are forgiven and put away, or to say, Rise, take up your sleeping pad or mat, and start walking about and keep on walking?
10 But that you may know positively and beyond a doubt that the Son of Man has right and authority and power on earth to forgive sins--He said to the paralyzed man,
11 I say to you, arise, pick up and carry your sleeping pad or mat, and be going on home.
12 And he arose at once and picked up the sleeping pad or mat and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and recognized and praised and thanked God, saying, We have never seen anything like this before!
13 Jesus went out again along the seashore; and all the multitude kept gathering about Him, and He kept teaching them.
14 And as He was passing by, He saw Levi (Matthew) son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office, and He said to him, Follow Me! Be joined to Me as a disciple, side with My party! And he arose and joined Him as His disciple and sided with His party and accompanied Him.
15 And as Jesus, together with His disciples, sat at table in his Levi's house, many tax collectors and persons definitely stained with sin were dining with Him, for there were many who walked the same road (followed) with Him.
16 And the scribes belonging to the party of the Pharisees, when they saw that He was eating with those definitely known to be especially wicked sinners and tax collectors, said to His disciples, Why does He eat and drink with tax collectors and notorious sinners?
17 And when Jesus heard it, He said to them, Those who are strong and well have no need of a physician, but those who are weak and sick; I came not to call the righteous ones to repentance, but sinners (the erring ones and all those not free from sin).
18 Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were observing a fast; and some people came and asked Jesus, Why are John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fasting, but Your disciples are not doing so?
19 Jesus answered them, Can the wedding guests fast (abstain from food and drink) while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and they will fast in that day.
21 No one sews a patch of unshrunken (new) goods on an old garment; if he does, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and the rent (tear) becomes bigger and worse than it was before.
22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; if he does, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the bottles destroyed; but new wine is to be put in new (fresh) wineskins.
23 One Sabbath He was going along beside the fields of standing grain, and as they made their way, His disciples began to pick off the grains. Deut. 23:25.
24 And the Pharisees said to Him, Look! Why are they doing what is not permitted or lawful on the Sabbath?
25 And He said to them, Have you never even read what David did when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were accompanying him?--
26 How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was the high priest, and ate the sacred loaves set forth before God, which it is not permitted or lawful for any but the priests to eat, and how he also gave them to those who were with him? I Sam. 21:1-6; II Sam. 8:17.
27 And Jesus said to them, The Sabbath was made on account and for the sake of man, not man for the Sabbath; Exod. 23:12; Deut. 5:14.
28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.

2 And G2532 CONJ straightway G2112 ADV many G4183 A-NPM were gathered together G4863 V-API-3P , insomuch that G5620 CONJ there was no room to receive G5562 V-PAN them , no , not so much as G3366 CONJ about G4314 PREP the G3588 T-ASF door G2374 N-ASF : and G2532 CONJ he preached G2980 V-IAI-3S the G3588 T-ASM word G3056 N-ASM unto them G846 P-DPM .
3 And G2532 CONJ they come G2064 V-PNI-3P unto G4314 PREP him G846 P-ASM , bringing G5342 V-PAP-NPM one sick of the palsy G3885 A-ASM , which was borne G142 V-PPP-ASM of G5259 PREP four G5064 A-GPM .
4 And G2532 CONJ when they could G1410 V-PNP-NPM not G3361 PRT-N come nigh G4331 V-AAN unto him G846 P-DSM for G1223 PREP the G3588 T-ASM press G3793 N-ASM , they uncovered G648 V-AAI-3P the G3588 T-ASF roof G4721 N-ASF where G3699 ADV he was G2258 V-IXI-3S : and G2532 CONJ when they had broken it up G1846 V-AAP-NPM , they let down G5465 V-PAI-3P the G3588 T-ASM bed G2895 N-ASM wherein G1909 PREP the G3588 T-NSM sick of the palsy G3885 A-NSM lay G2621 V-INI-3S .
5 When G1161 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM saw G1492 V-2AAP-NSM their G3588 T-ASF faith G4102 N-ASF , he said G3004 V-PAI-3S unto the G3588 T-DSM sick of the palsy G3885 A-DSM , Son G5043 N-VSN , thy G3588 T-NPF sins G266 N-NPF be forgiven G863 V-RPI-3P thee G4671 P-2DS .
6 But G1161 CONJ there were G2258 V-IXI-3P certain G5100 X-NPM of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM scribes G1122 N-GPM sitting G2521 V-PNP-NPM there G1563 ADV , and G2532 CONJ reasoning G1260 V-PNP-NPM in G1722 PREP their G3588 T-DPF hearts G2588 N-DPF ,
7 Why G5101 I-ASN doth this G3778 D-NSM man thus G3779 ADV speak G2980 V-PAI-3S blasphemies G988 N-APF ? who G5101 I-NSM can G1410 V-PNI-3S forgive G863 V-PAN sins G266 N-APF but G1508 God G2316 N-NSM only G1520 A-NSM ?
8 And G2532 CONJ immediately G2112 ADV when Jesus G2424 N-NSM perceived G1921 V-2AAP-NSM in his G3588 T-DSN spirit G4151 N-DSN that G3754 CONJ they so G3779 ADV reasoned G1260 V-PNI-3P within G1722 PREP themselves G1438 F-3DPM , he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-GSM , Why G5101 I-ASN reason G1260 V-PNI-2P ye these things G5023 D-APN in G1722 PREP your G3588 T-DPF hearts G2588 N-DPF ?
9 Whether G5101 I-NSN is G2076 V-PXI-3S it easier G2123 A-NSN-C to say G2036 V-2AAN to the G3588 T-DSM sick of the palsy G3885 A-DSM , Thy sins G266 N-NPF be forgiven G863 V-RPI-3P thee G4671 ; or G2228 PRT to say G2036 V-2AAN , Arise G1453 V-AMM-2S , and G2532 CONJ take up G142 V-AAM-2S thy G3588 T-ASM bed G2895 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ walk G4043 V-PAM-2S ?
10 But G1161 CONJ that G2443 CONJ ye may know G1492 V-RAS-2P that G3754 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM Son G5207 N-NSM of man G444 N-GSM hath G2192 V-PAI-3S power G1849 N-ASF on G1909 PREP earth G1093 N-GSF to forgive G863 V-PAN sins G266 N-APF , (he saith G3004 V-PAI-3S to the G3588 T-DSM sick of the palsy G3885 A-DSM , )
11 I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto thee G4671 P-2DS , Arise G1453 V-AMM-2S , and G2532 CONJ take up G142 V-AAM-2S thy G3588 T-ASM bed G2895 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ go thy way G5217 V-PAM-2S into G1519 PREP thine G3588 T-ASM house G3624 N-ASM .
12 And G2532 CONJ immediately G2112 ADV he arose G1453 V-API-3S , took up G142 V-AAP-NSM the G3588 T-ASM bed G2895 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ went forth G1831 V-2AAI-3S before G1726 ADV them all G3956 A-GPM ; insomuch that G5620 CONJ they were all G3956 A-APM amazed G1839 V-PMN , and G2532 CONJ glorified G1392 V-PAN God G2316 N-ASM , saying G3004 V-PAP-APM , We never G3763 ADV saw G1492 V-2AAI-1P it on this fashion G3779 ADV .
13 And G2532 CONJ he went forth G1831 V-2AAI-3S again G3825 ADV by G3844 PREP the G3588 T-ASF sea side G2281 N-ASF ; and G2532 CONJ all G3956 A-NSM the G3588 T-NSM multitude G3793 N-NSM resorted G2064 V-INI-3S unto G4314 PREP him G846 P-ASM , and G2532 CONJ he taught G1321 V-IAI-3S them G846 P-APM .
14 And G2532 CONJ as he passed by G3855 V-PAP-NSM , he saw G1492 V-2AAI-3S Levi G3018 N-ASM the G3588 T-ASM son of Alphaeus G256 N-GSM sitting G2521 V-PNP-ASM at G1909 PREP the G3588 T-ASN receipt of custom G5058 N-ASN , and G2532 CONJ said G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Follow G190 V-PAM-2S me G3427 P-1DS . And G2532 CONJ he arose G450 V-2AAP-NSM and followed G190 V-AAI-3S him G846 P-DSM .
15 And G2532 CONJ it came to pass G1096 V-2ADI-3S , that , as G1722 PREP Jesus G846 P-ASM sat at meat G2621 V-PNN in G1722 PREP his G3588 T-DSF house G3614 N-DSF , many G4183 A-NPM publicans G5057 N-NPM and G2532 CONJ sinners G268 A-NPM sat also together with V-INI-3P Jesus G2424 N-DSM and G2532 CONJ his G3588 T-DPM disciples G3101 N-DPM : for G1063 CONJ there were G2258 V-IXI-3P many G4183 A-NPM , and G2532 CONJ they followed G190 V-AAI-3P him G846 P-DSM .
16 And G2532 CONJ when the G3588 T-NPM scribes G1122 N-NPM and G2532 CONJ Pharisees G5330 N-NPM saw G1492 V-2AAP-NPM him G846 P-ASM eat G2068 V-PAP-ASM with G3326 PREP publicans G5057 N-GPM and G2532 CONJ sinners G268 A-GPM , they said G3004 V-IAI-3P unto his G3588 T-DPM disciples G3101 N-DPM , How is it G5101 I-NSN that G3754 CONJ he eateth G2068 V-PAI-3S and G2532 CONJ drinketh G4095 V-PAI-3S with G3326 PREP publicans G5057 N-GPM and G2532 CONJ sinners G268 A-GPM ?
17 When G2532 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM heard G191 V-AAP-NSM it , he saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , They that are whole G2480 V-PAP-NPM have G2192 V-PAI-3P no G3756 PRT-N need G5532 N-ASF of the physician G2395 N-GSM , but G235 CONJ they that are sick G2192 V-PAP-NPM : I came G2064 V-2AAI-1S not G3756 PRT-N to call G2564 V-AAN the righteous G1342 A-APM , but G235 CONJ sinners G268 A-APM to G1519 PREP repentance G3341 N-ASF .
18 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM of John G2491 N-GSM and G2532 CONJ of G3588 T-NPM the G3588 T-GPM Pharisees G5330 N-GPM used to fast G2258 V-IXI-3P : and G2532 CONJ they come G2064 V-PNI-3P and G2532 CONJ say G3004 V-PAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM , Why G1302 do the G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM of John G2491 N-GSM and G2532 CONJ of G3588 T-NPM the G3588 T-GPM Pharisees G5330 N-GPM fast G3522 V-PAP-NPM , but G1161 CONJ thy G4671 disciples G3101 N-NPM fast G3522 V-PAI-3P not G3756 PRT-N ?
19 And G2532 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Can PRT-N the G3588 T-NPM children G5207 N-NPM of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM bridechamber G3567 N-GSM fast G3522 V-PAN , while G1722 PREP the G3588 T-NSM bridegroom G3566 N-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S with G3326 PREP them G846 P-GPM ? as long as G3745 K-ASM they G5550 N-ASM have G2192 V-PAI-3P the G3588 T-ASM bridegroom G3566 N-ASM with G3326 PREP them G1438 F-3GPM , they cannot G1410 V-PNI-3P fast G3522 V-PAN .
20 But G1161 CONJ the days G2250 N-NPF will come G2064 V-FDI-3P , when G3752 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM bridegroom G3566 N-NSM shall be taken away G522 V-APS-3S from G575 PREP them G846 P-GPM , and G2532 CONJ then G5119 ADV shall they fast G3522 V-FAI-3P in G1722 PREP those G3588 T-DPF days G2250 N-DPF .
21 No man G3762 A-NSM also G2532 CONJ seweth G1976 V-PAI-3S a piece G1915 N-ASN of new G46 A-GSN cloth G4470 N-GSN on G1909 PREP an old G3820 A-DSN garment G2440 N-DSN : else G1490 the G3588 T-ASN new piece G2537 A-ASN that filled it up G4138 N-NSN taketh away G142 V-PAI-3S from the G3588 T-GSN old G3820 A-GSN , and G2532 CONJ the rent G4978 N-NSN is made G1096 V-PNI-3S worse G5501 A-NSN .
22 And G2532 CONJ no man G3762 A-NSM putteth G906 V-PAI-3S new G3501 A-ASM wine G3631 N-ASM into G1519 PREP old G3820 A-APM bottles G779 N-APM : else G1490 the G3588 T-NSM new G3501 A-NSM wine G3631 N-NSM doth burst G4486 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-APM bottles G779 N-APM , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM wine G3631 N-NSM is spilled G1632 V-PPI-3S , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM bottles G779 N-NPM will be marred G622 V-FMI-3P : but G235 CONJ new G3501 A-ASM wine G3631 N-ASM must be put G992 A-NSN into G1519 PREP new G2537 A-APM bottles G779 N-APM .
23 And G2532 CONJ it came to pass G1096 V-2ADI-3S , that he G846 P-ASM went G3899 V-PNN through G1223 PREP the G3588 T-GPM corn fields G4702 A-GPM on G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DPN sabbath day G4521 N-DPN ; and G2532 CONJ his G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM began G756 V-ADI-3P , as they went G4160 V-PAN , to pluck G5089 V-PAP-NPM the G3588 T-APM ears of corn G4719 N-APM .
24 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM Pharisees G5330 N-NPM said G3004 V-IAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM , Behold G2396 , why G5101 I-ASN do G4160 V-PAI-3P they on G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DPN sabbath G4521 N-DPN day that which G3739 R-ASN is not lawful G1832 V-PQI-3S ?
25 And G2532 CONJ he G846 P-NSM said G3004 V-IAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Have ye never G3763 ADV read G314 V-2AAI-2P what G5101 I-ASN David G1138 N-PRI did G4160 V-AAI-3S , when G3753 ADV he had G2192 V-2AAI-3S need G5532 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ was hungry G3983 V-AAI-3S , he G846 P-NSM , and G2532 CONJ they G3588 T-NPM that G3588 T-NPM were with G3326 PREP him G846 P-GSM ?
26 How G4459 ADV he went G1525 V-2AAI-3S into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASM house G3624 N-ASM of God G2316 N-GSM in G1909 PREP the days of Abiathar G8 N-PRI the G3588 T-GSM high priest G749 N-GSM , and G2532 CONJ did eat G5315 V-2AAI-3S the G3588 T-APM shewbread G740 N-APM , which G3739 R-APM is not lawful G1832 V-PQI-3S to eat G5315 V-2AAN but G1508 for G3588 T-DPM the G3588 T-DPM priests G2409 N-DPM , and G2532 CONJ gave G1325 V-AAI-3S also G2532 CONJ to them G3588 T-DPM which G3588 T-DPM were G5607 V-PXP-DPM with G4862 PREP him G846 P-DSM ?
27 And G2532 CONJ he said G3004 V-IAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , The G3588 T-NSN sabbath G4521 N-NSN was made G1096 V-2ADI-3S for G3588 T-ASM man G444 N-ASM , and not G3756 PRT-N man G444 N-NSM for G1223 PREP the G3588 T-ASN sabbath G4521 N-ASN :
28 Therefore G5620 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM Son G5207 N-NSM of man G444 N-GSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S Lord G2962 N-NSM also G2532 CONJ of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN sabbath G4521 N-GSN .
