Jeremiah 5:1 (AMP) Amplified Bibles

1 RUN TO and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now and take notice! Seek in her broad squares to see if you can find a man as Abraham sought in Sodom, one who does justice, who seeks truth, sincerity, and faithfulness; and I will pardon Jerusalem--for one uncompromisingly righteous person. Gen. 18:22-32.
2 And though they say, As the Lord lives, surely they swear falsely.
3 O Lord, do not your eyes look on the truth? They have meant to please You outwardly, but You look on their hearts. You have stricken them, but they have not grieved; You have consumed them, but they have refused to take correction or instruction. They have made their faces harder than a rock, they have refused to repent and return to You.
4 Then I said, Surely these are only the poor; they are sinfully foolish and have no understanding, for they know not the way of the Lord, the judgment (the just and righteous law) of their God.
5 I will go to the great men and will speak to them, for they must know the way of the Lord, the judgment (the just and righteous law) of their God. But I found the very reverse to be true these had all alike broken the yoke of God's law and had burst the bonds of obedience to Him.
6 Therefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, a wolf of the desert shall destroy them, a leopard or panther shall lie in wait against their cities. Everyone who goes out of them shall be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many, their backslidings and total desertion of faith are increased and have become great and mighty.
7 Why should I and how can I pass over this and forgive you for it? Your children have forsaken Me and sworn by those that are no gods. When I had fed them to the full and bound them to Me by oath, they committed spiritual adultery, assembling themselves in troops at the houses of idol harlots.
8 They were like fed stallions roaming at large; each one neighed after his neighbor's wife.
9 Shall I not punish them for these things? says the Lord; and shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?
10 Go up within Jerusalem's walls and destroy her vines, but do not make a full and complete end. Trim away the tendrils of her vines, for they are not the Lord's.
11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very faithlessly and treacherously against Me, says the Lord.
12 They have lied about and denied the Lord by saying, It is not He Who speaks through His prophets! Evil shall not come upon us; nor shall we see war or famine.
13 And say they the prophets will become wind what they prophesy will not come to pass, and the word of God is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them as they threatened would be done to us.
14 Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts: Because you the people have spoken this word, behold, I will make My words fire in your mouth Jeremiah and this people wood, and it will devour them.
15 Behold, I am bringing a nation upon you from afar, O house of Israel, says the Lord. It is a mighty and enduring nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you understand what they say.
16 Their quiver is filled with deadly missiles like an open sepulcher filled with dead bodies; the foes are all mighty men (heroes).
17 They shall consume your harvest and your food; they shall consume your sons and your daughters; they shall consume your flocks and your herds; they shall consume your vines and your fig trees. They shall break down and impoverish your fortified cities in which you trust, with the sword they shall destroy them.
18 But even in those days, says the Lord, I will not make a full and complete end of you.
19 And when your people say, Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us? then you shall answer them, As you have forsaken Me, says the Lord, and have served strange gods in your land, so shall you serve strangers (gods) in a land that is not yours.
20 Declare this in the house of Jacob and publish it in Judah:
21 Hear now this, O foolish people without understanding or heart, who have eyes and see not, who have ears and hear not: Isa. 6:9, 10; Matt. 13:10-15; Mark 8:17, 18.
22 Do you not fear and reverence Me? says the Lord. Do you not tremble before Me? I placed the sand for the boundary of the sea, a perpetual barrier beyond which it cannot pass and by an everlasting ordinance beyond which it cannot go? And though the waves of the sea toss and shake themselves, yet they cannot prevail against the feeble grains of sand which God has ordained by nature to be sufficient for His purpose; though the billows roar, yet they cannot pass over that barrier. Is not such a God to be reverently feared and worshiped?
23 But these people have hearts that draw back from God and wills that rebel against Him; they have revolted and quit His service and have gone away into idolatry.
24 Nor do they say in their hearts, Let us now reverently fear and worship the Lord our God, Who gives rain, both the autumn and the spring rain in its season, Who reserves and keeps for us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
25 Your iniquities have turned these blessings away, and your sins have kept good harvests from you.
26 For among My people are found wicked men; they watch like fowlers who lie in wait; they set a trap, they catch men.
27 As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit and treachery; therefore they have become great and grown rich,
28 They have grown fat and sleek. Yes, they surpass in deeds of wickedness; they do not judge and plead with justice the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper, and they do not defend the rights of the needy.
29 Shall I not punish them for these things? says the Lord. Shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?
30 An appalling and horrible thing bringing desolation and destruction has come to pass in the land:
31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests exercise rule at their own hands and by means of the prophets. And My people love to have it so! But what will you do when the end comes?

2 And though H518 W-PART they say H559 , The LORD H3068 NAME-4MS liveth H2416 AMS ; surely H3651 L-ADV they swear H7650 falsely H8267 .
3 O LORD H3068 NAME-4MS , are not H3808 D-NPAR thine eyes H5869 CMD-2MS upon the truth H530 ? thou hast stricken H5221 them , but they have not H3808 W-NPAR grieved H2342 ; thou hast consumed H3615 them , but they have refused H3985 to receive H3947 correction H4148 : they have made their faces H6440 harder H2388 than a rock H5553 ; they have refused H3985 to return H7725 .
4 Therefore I H589 W-PPRO-1MS said H559 VQQ1MS , Surely H389 ADV these H1992 PPRO-3MP are poor H1800 JMP ; they are foolish H2973 : for H3588 CONJ they know H3045 VQQ3MP not H3808 NADV the way H1870 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , nor the judgment H4941 CMS of their God H430 .
5 I will get H1980 me unto H413 PREP the great men H1419 D-AMP , and will speak unto H1696 W-VPI1MS them ; for H3588 CONJ they H1992 PPRO-3MP have known H3045 VQQ3MP the way H1870 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , and the judgment H4941 CMS of their God H430 : but H389 ADV these H1992 PPRO-3MP have altogether H3162 ADV-3MS broken H7665 the yoke H5923 , and burst H5423 VNQ3MP the bonds H4147 .
6 Wherefore H5921 PREP a lion H738 NMS out of the forest H3293 shall slay H5221 them , and a wolf H2061 of the evenings H6160 shall spoil H7703 them , a leopard H5246 shall watch H8245 over H5921 PREP their cities H5892 : every one H3605 NMS that goeth out H3318 thence H2007 shall be torn in pieces H2963 : because H3588 CONJ their transgressions H6588 are many H7231 , and their backslidings H4878 are increased H6105 .
7 How H335 IPRO shall I pardon H5545 thee for this H2063 ? thy children H1121 have forsaken H5800 me , and sworn H7650 by them that are no H3808 B-NPAR gods H430 EDP : when I had fed them to the full H7646 , they then committed adultery H5003 , and assembled themselves H1413 by troops in the harlots H2181 houses H1004 W-NMS .
8 They were H1961 VQQ3MP as fed H2109 horses H5483 in the morning H7904 : every one H376 NMS neighed H6670 after H413 PREP his neighbor H7453 NMS-3MS \'s wife H802 CFS .
9 Shall I not H3808 ADV visit H6485 for H5921 these H428 PMP things ? saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS : and H518 W-PART shall not H3808 NADV my soul H5315 CFS-1MS be avenged H5358 on such H834 RPRO a nation H1471 as this H2088 ?
10 Go ye up H5927 upon her walls H8284 , and destroy H7843 ; but make H6213 not H408 ADV a full end H3617 : take away H5493 her battlements H5189 ; for H3588 CONJ they H1992 are not H3808 the LORD H3068 L-EDS \'s .
11 For H3588 CONJ the house H1004 W-NMS of Israel H3478 and the house H1004 W-NMS of Judah H3063 have dealt very treacherously H898 VQQ3MP against me , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
12 They have belied H3584 the LORD H3068 , and said H559 W-VQY3MP , It is not H3808 NADV he H1931 PPRO-3MS ; neither H3808 W-NADV shall evil H7451 AFS come H935 VQY3FS upon H5921 PREP-1MP us ; neither H3808 ADV shall we see H7200 sword H2719 nor famine H7458 :
13 And the prophets H5030 shall become H1961 wind H7307 L-CMS , and the word H1699 is not H369 NPAR in them : thus H3541 shall it be done H6213 unto them .
14 Wherefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of hosts H6635 , Because H3282 ADV ye speak H1696 this H2088 D-PMS word H1697 D-NMS , behold H2009 , I will make H5414 VQPMS my words H1697 CMP-1MS in thy mouth H6310 fire H784 , and this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 wood H6086 , and it shall devour H398 them .
15 Lo H2009 , I will bring H935 VHPMS a nation H1471 NMS upon H5921 PREP-2MP you from far H4801 , O house H1004 CMS of Israel H3478 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS : it H1931 PPRO-3MS is a mighty H386 nation H1471 NMS , it H1931 PPRO-3MS is an ancient H5769 M-NMS nation H1471 NMS , a nation H1471 NMS whose language H3956 thou knowest H3045 VQY2MS not H3808 NADV , neither H3808 W-NADV understandest H8085 what H4100 IPRO they say H1696 .
16 Their quiver H827 is as an open H6605 sepulcher H6913 , they are all H3605 CMS-3MP mighty men H1368 .
17 And they shall eat up H398 W-VQQ3MS thine harvest H7105 , and thy bread H3899 , which thy sons H1121 CMP-2MS and thy daughters H1323 W-CFP-2MS should eat H398 : they shall eat up H398 VQY3MS thy flocks H6629 and thine herds H1241 : they shall eat up H398 VQY3MS thy vines H1612 and thy fig trees H8384 : they shall impoverish H7567 thy fenced H4013 cities H5892 , wherein H834 RPRO thou H859 PPRO-2MS trustedst H982 , with the sword H2719 .
18 Nevertheless H1571 W-CONJ in those H1992 days H3117 BD-NMP , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS , I will not H3808 ADV make H6213 a full end H3617 with H854 PART-2MP you .
19 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , when H3588 CONJ ye shall say H559 VQY2MP , Wherefore H8478 NMS doeth H6213 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS our God H430 all H3605 NMS these H428 PMP things unto us ? then shalt thou answer H559 them , Like H834 K-RPRO as ye have forsaken H5800 me , and served H5647 strange H5236 gods H430 CDP in your land H776 , so H3651 ADV shall ye serve H5647 strangers H2114 in a land H776 B-GFS that is not H3808 NADV yours .
20 Declare H5046 this H2063 DPRO in the house H1004 B-CMS of Jacob H3290 , and publish H8085 it in Judah H3063 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
21 Hear H8085 VQI2MP now H4994 IJEC this H2063 DPRO , O foolish H5530 people H5971 NMS , and without H369 W-NPAR understanding H3820 NMS ; which have eyes H5869 NMD , and see H7200 VQY3MP not H3808 W-NPAR ; which have ears H241 , and hear H8085 not H3808 W-NPAR :
22 Fear H3372 ye not H3808 NADV me ? saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS : will ye not H3808 NADV tremble H2342 at my presence H6440 M-CMP-1MS , which H834 RPRO have placed H7760 VQQ1MS the sand H2344 for the bound H1366 CMS of the sea H3220 by a perpetual H5769 NMS decree H2706 , that it cannot H3808 W-NADV pass H5674 it : and though the waves H1530 thereof toss themselves H1607 , yet can they not H3808 W-NADV prevail H3201 ; though they roar H1993 , yet can they not H3808 W-NADV pass over H5674 it ?
23 But this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 hath H1961 VQQ3MS a revolting H5637 and a rebellious H4784 heart H3820 NMS ; they are revolted H5493 VQQ3MP and gone H1980 W-VQY3MP .
24 Neither H3808 W-NPAR say H559 VQQ3MP they in their heart H3824 , Let us now H4994 IJEC fear H3372 the LORD H3068 EDS our God H430 , that giveth H5414 D-VQPMS rain H1653 , both the former H3138 and the latter H4456 , in his season H6256 B-CFS-3MS : he reserveth H8104 unto us the appointed H2708 CFP weeks H7620 of the harvest H7105 NMS .
25 Your iniquities H5771 have turned away H5186 VHQ3MP these H428 PMP things , and your sins H2403 have withheld H4513 good H2896 D-NMS things from H4480 PREP-2MP you .
26 For H3588 CONJ among my people H5971 are found H4672 wicked H7563 AMP men : they lay wait H7789 , as he that setteth H7918 snares H3353 ; they set H5324 a trap H4889 , they catch H3920 men H376 .
27 As a cage H3619 is full H4392 of birds H5775 NMS , so H3651 ADV are their houses H1004 CMP-3MP full H4392 of deceit H4820 NFS : therefore H3651 ADV they are become great H1431 , and waxen rich H6238 .
28 They are waxen fat H8080 , they shine H6245 : yea H1571 CONJ , they overpass H5674 the deeds H1697 of the wicked H7451 AMS : they judge H1777 not H3808 NADV the cause H1779 NMS , the cause H1779 NMS of the fatherless H3490 NMS , yet they prosper H6743 ; and the right H4941 W-CMS of the needy H34 NMP do they not H3808 NADV judge H8199 .
29 Shall I not H3808 ADV visit H6485 for H5921 these H428 PMP things ? saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS : shall not H3808 NADV my soul H5315 CFS-1MS be avenged H5358 on such H834 RPRO a nation H1471 as this H2088 ?
30 A wonderful H8047 and horrible thing H8186 is committed H1961 in the land H776 B-GFS ;
31 The prophets H5030 prophesy H5012 falsely H8267 , and the priests H3548 bear rule H7287 by H5921 PREP their means H3027 CFD-3MP ; and my people H5971 love H157 to have it so H3651 ADV : and what H4100 will ye do H6213 in the end H319 thereof ?
