1 दाऊद ने गत को छोड़ दिया। दाऊद अदुल्लाम की गुफा में भाग गया। दाऊद के भाईयों और सम्बन्धियों ने सुना कि दाऊद अदुल्लाम में था। वे दाऊद को देखने वहाँ गए।

2 बहुत से लोग दाऊद के साथ हो लिये। वे सभी लोग, जो किसी विपत्ति में थे या कर्ज में थे या असंतुष्ट थे, दाऊद के साथ हो लिए। दाऊद उनका मुखिया बन गया। दाऊद के पास लगभग चार सौ पुरुष थे।

3 दाऊद ने अदुल्लाम को छोड़ दिया और वह मोआब में स्थित मिस्पा को चला गया। दाऊद ने मोआब के राजा से कहा, “कृपया मेरे माता पिता को आने दें और अपने पास तब तक रहने दें जब तक मैं यह न समझ सकूँ कि परमेश्वर मेरे साथ क्या करने जा रहा है।”

4 दाऊद ने अपने माता-पिता को मोआब के राजा के पास छोड़ा। दाऊद के माता-पिता मोआब के राजा के पास तब तक ठहरे जब तक दाऊद किले में रहा।

5 किन्तु नबी गाद ने दाऊद से कहा, “गढ़ी में मत ठहरो। यहूदा प्रदेश में जाओ।” इसलिये दाऊद वहाँ से चल पड़ा और हेरेत क जंगल में गया।

6 शाऊल ने सुन कि लोग दाऊद और उसके लोगों के बारे में जान गए हैं। शाऊल गिबा में पहाड़ी पर एक पेड़ के नीचे बैठा था। शाऊल के हाथ मैं उसका भाला था। शाऊल के सभी अधिकारी उसके चारों ओर खड़े थे।

7 शाऊल ने अपने उन अधिकारियों से कहा, जो उसके चारों ओर खड़े थे, “बिन्यामीन के लोगों सुनो! क्या तुम लोग समझते हो कि यिशै का पुत्र(दाऊद) तुम्हें खेत और अंगूरों के बाग देगा? क्या तुम समझते हो कि वह तुको उन्नति देगा और तुम्हें एक हजार व्यक्तियों और एक सौ व्यक्तियों के ऊपर अधिकारी बनाएगा।

8 तुम लोग मेरे विरुद्ध षडयन्त्र रच रहे हो। तुमने गुप्त योजनायें बनाई हैं। तुम में से किसी ने भी मेरे पुत्र योनातान के बारे में नहीं बताय है। तुममें से किसी ने भी यह नहीं बताया है कि उसने यिशै के पुत्र के साथ क्या सन्धि की है। तुममें से कोई भी मेरी परवाह नहीं करता। तुममें से किसी ने यह नहीं बताया कि मेरे पुत्र योनातान ने दाऊद को उकसाया है। योनातान ने मेरे सेवक दाऊद से कहा कि वह छिप जाए और मुझ पर आक्रमण करे और यह वही है जो दाऊद अब कर रहा है।”

9 एदोमी दोएग शाऊल के अधिकारियों के साथ खड़ा था। दोएग ने कहा, “मैंने यिशै के पुत्र दाऊद को नोब में देखा है। दाऊद अहितूब के पुत्र अहीमेलेक से मिलने आया।

10 अहीमलेक ने यहोवा से दाऊद के लिये प्रार्थना की। अहीमेलेक ने दाऊद को भोजन भी दिया और अहीमेलेक ने दाऊद को पलिश्ती (गोलियत) की तलवार भी दी।”

11 तब राजा शाऊल ने कुछ लोगों को आज्ञा दी कि वे याजक को उसके पास लेकर आएं। शाऊल ने उनसे अहीतूब के पुत्र अहीमेलेक और उसके सभी सम्बन्धियों को लाने को कहा। अहीमेलेक के सम्बन्धी नोब में याजक थे। वे सभी राजा के पास आए।

12 शाऊल ने अहीमेलेक से कहा, “अहीतूब के पुत्र, अब सुन लो।” अहीमेलेक ने उत्तर दिया, “हाँ, महाराज।”

13 शाऊल ने अहीमेलेक से कहा, “तुमने और यिशै के पुत्र (दाऊद) ने मेरे विरुद्ध गुप्त योजना क्यों बनाई? तुमने दाऊद को रोटी और तलवार दी! तुमने परमेश्वर से उसके लिये प्रार्थना की और अब सीधे, दाऊद मुझ पर आक्रमण करने की प्रतीक्षा कर रहा है!”

14 अहीमेलेक ने उत्तर दिया, “दाऊद तुम्हारा बड़ा विश्वास पात्र है। तुम्हारे अधिकारियों में कोई उतना विश्वस्त नहीं है जितना दाऊद है। दाऊद तुम्हारा अपना दामाद है और दाऊद तुम्हारे अंगरक्षकों का नायक है। तुम्हारा अपना परिवार दाऊद का सम्मान करता है।

15 वह पहली बार नहीं था, कि मैंने दाऊद के लिये परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना की। ऐसी बात बिल्कुल नहीं है। मुझे या मेरे किसी सम्बन्धी को दोष मत लगाओ। हम तुम्हारे सेवक हैं। मुझे कुछ भी ज्ञात नहीं है कि यह सब हो क्या रहा है?”

16 किन्तु राजा ने कहा, “अहीमेलेक, तुम्हें और तुम्हारे सभी सम्बन्धियों को मरना है।”

17 तब राजा ने अपने बगल में खड़े रक्षकों से कहा, “जाओ और यहोवा के याजकों को मार डालो। यह इसलिए करो क्योंकि वे भी दाऊद के पक्ष में हैं। वे जानते थे कि दाऊद भागा है, किन्तु उन्होंने मुझे बताया नहीं।” किन्तु राजा के अधिकारियों ने यहोवा के याजकों को मारने से इन्कार कर दिया।

18 अत: राजा ने दोएग को आदेश दिया। शाऊल ने कहा, “दोएग, तुम जाओ और याजकों को मार डालो।” इसलिए एदोमी दोएग गया और उसने याजकों को मार डाला। उस दिन दोएग ने पचासी, सन के एपोद धारण करने वालों को मार डाला।

19 नोब याजकों का नगर था। दोएग ने नोब के सभी लोगों को मार डाला। दोएग ने अपनी तलवार का उपयोग किया और उसने सभी पुरुषों, स्त्रियों, बच्चों और छोटे शिशुओं को भी मार डाला। दोएग ने उनकी गायों, खच्चरों और भेड़ों तक को मार डाला।

20 किन्तु एब्यातार वहाँ से बच निकला। एब्यातार अहीमेलेक का पुत्र था। अहीमेलेक अहीतूब का पुत्र था। एब्यातार बच निकला और दाऊद से मिल गया।

21 एब्यातार ने दाऊद से कहा कि शाऊल ने यहोवा के याजकों को मार डाला है।

22 तब दाऊद ने एब्यातार से कहा, “मैंने एदोमी दोएग को उस दिन नोब में देखा था और मैं जानता था की वह शाऊल से कहेगा। मैं तुम्हारे पिता के परिवार की मृत्यु के लिये उत्तरदायी हूँ।

23 जो व्यक्ति (शाऊल) तुमको मारना चाहता है वह मुझको भी मारना चाहता है। मेरे साथ ठहरो। डरो नहीं। तुम मेरे साथ सुरक्षित रहोगे।”
