1 बाद में यहोवा फिर इब्राहीम के सामने प्रकट हुआ। इब्राहीम मस्रे के बांज के पेड़ों के पास रहता था। एक दिन, दिन के सबसे गर्म पहर में इब्राहीम अपने तम्बू के दरवाज़े पर बैठा था।

2 इब्राहीम ने आँख उठा कर देखा और अपने सामने तीन पुरुषों को खड़े पाया। जब इब्राहीम ने उनको देखा, वह उनके पास गया और उन्हें प्रणाम किया।

3 इब्राहीम ने कहा, “महोदयों, आप अपने इस सेवक के साथ ही थोड़ी देर ठहरें।

4 मैं आप लोगों के पैर धोने के लिए पानी लाता हूँ। आप पेड़ों के नीचे आराम करें।

5 मैं आप लोगों के लिए कुछ भोजन लाटा हूँ और आप लोग जितना चाहें खाए। इसके बाद आप लोग अपनी यात्रा आरम्भ कर सकते हैं।” तीनों ने कहा, “यह बहुत अच्छा है। तुम जैसा कहते हो, करो।”

6 इब्राहीम जल्दी से तम्बू में घुसा। इब्राहीम ने सारा से कहा, “जल्दी से तीन रोटियों के लिए आटा तैयार करो।”

7 तब इब्राहीम अपने मवेशियों की ओर दौड़ा। इब्राहीम ने सबसे अच्छा एक जवान बछड़ा लिया। इब्राहीम ने बछड़ा नौकर को दिया। इब्राहीम ने नौकर से कहा कि तुम जल्दी करो, इस बछड़े को मारो और भोजन के लिए तैयार करो।

8 इब्राहीम ने तीनों को भोजन के लिए माँस दिया। उसने दूध और मक्खन दिया। जब तक तीनों पुरुष खाते रहे तब तक इब्राहीम पेड़ के नीचे उनके पास खड़ा रहा।

9 उन व्यक्तियों ने इब्राहीम से कहा, “तुम्हारी पत्नी सारा कहाँ है?” इब्राहीम ने कहा, “वह तम्बू में है।”

10 तब यहोवा ने कहा, “मैं बसन्त में फिर आऊँगा उस समय तुम्हारी पत्नी सारा एक पुत्र को जन्म देगी।” सारा तम्बू में सुन रही थी और उसने इन बातों को सुना।

11 इब्राहीम और सारा दोनों बहुत बूढ़े थे। सारा प्रसव की उम्र को पार कर चुकी थी।

12 सारा मन ही मन मुस्करायी। उसे अपने कानों पर विश्वास नहीं हुआ। उसने अपने आप से कहा, “मैं और मेरे पति दोनों ही बूढे हैं। मैं बच्चा जनने के लिए काफी बूढ़ी हूँ।”

13 तब यहोवा ने इब्राहीम से कहा, “सारा हंसी और बोली, ‘मैं इतनी बूढ़ी हूँ कि बच्चा जन नहीं सकती।’

14 क्या यहोवा के लिए कुछ भी असम्भव है? नही, मैं फिर बसन्त में अपने बताए समय पर आऊँगा और तुम्हारी पत्नी सारा पुत्र जनेगी।”

15 लेकिन सारा ने कहा, “मैं हंसी नहीं।” (उसने ऐसा कहा, क्योंकि वह डरी हुई थी।) लेकिन यहोवा ने कहा, “नहीं, मैं मानता हूँ कि तुम्हारा कहना सही नहीं है। तुम ज़रूर हँसी।”

16 तब वे पुरुष जाने के लिए उठे। उन्होंने सदोम की ओर देखा और उसी ओर चल पड़े। इब्राहीम उनको विदा करने के लिए कुछ दूर तक उनके साथ गया।

17 यहोवा ने मन में कहा, “क्या मैं इब्राहीम से वह कह दूँ जो मैं अभी करूँगा?

18 इब्राहीम एक बड़ा और शक्तिशाली राष्ट्र बन जाएगा। इसी के कारण पृथ्वी के सारे मनुष्य आशीर्वाद पायेंगे।

19 मैंने इब्राहीम के साथ खास वाचा की है। मैंने यह इसलिए किया है कि वह अपने बच्चे और अपने वंशज को उस तरह जीवन बिताने के लिए आज्ञा देगा जिस तरह का जीवन बिताना यहोवा चाहता है। मैंने यह इसलिए किया कि वे सच्चाई से रहेंगे और भले बनेंगे। तब मैं यहोवा प्रतिज्ञा की गई चीज़ों को दूँगा।”

20 तब यहोवा ने कहा, “मैंने बार-बार सुना है कि सदोम और अमोरा के लोग बहुत बुरे हैं।

21 इसलिए मैं वहाँ जाऊँगा और देखूँगा कि क्या हालत उतनी ही खराब है जितनी मैंने सुनी है। तब मैं ठीक-ठीक जान लूँगा।”

22 तब वे लोग मुड़े और सदोम की ओर चल पड़े। किन्तु इब्राहीम यहोवा के सामने खड़ा रहा।

23 तब इब्राहीम यहोवा से बोला, “हे यहोवा, क्या तू बुरे लोगों को नष्ट करने के साथ अच्छे लोगों को भी नष्ट करने की बात सोच रहा है?

24 यदि उस नगर में पचास अच्छे लोग हों तो क्या होगा? क्या तब भी तू नगर को नष्ट कर देगा? निश्चय ही तू वहाँ रहने वाले पचास अच्छे लोगों के लिए उस नगर को बचा लेगा।

25 निश्चय ही तू नगर को नष्ट नहीं करेगा। बुरे लोगों को मारने के लिए तू पचास अच्छे लोगों को नष्ट नहीं करेगा। अगर ऐसा हुआ तो अच्छे और बुरे लोग एक ही हो जाएँगे, दोनों को ही दण्ड मिलेगा। तू पूरी पृथ्वी को न्याय देने वाला हऐ। मैं जानता हूँ कि तू न्याय करेगा।”

26 तब यहोवा ने कहा, “यदि मुझे सदोम नगर में पचास अच्छे लोग मिले तो मैं पूरे नगर को बचा लूँगा।”

27 तब इब्राहीम ने कहा, “हे यहोवा, तेरी तुलना में, मैं केवल धूलि और राख हूँ। लेकिन तू मुझको फिर थोड़ा कष्ट देने का अवसर दे और मुझे यह पूछने दे कि

28 यदि पाँच अच्छे लोग कम हों तो क्या होगा? यददि नगर में पैंतालीस ही अच्छे लोग हो तो क्या होगा। क्या तू केवल पाँच लोगों के लिए पूरा नगर नष्ट करेगा?” तब यहोवा ने कहा, “यदि मुझे वहाँ पैंतालीस अच्छे लोग मिले तो मैं नगर को नष्ट नहीं करूँगा।”

29 इब्राहीम ने फिर यहोवा से कहा, “यदि तुझे वहाँ केवल चालीस अच्छे ओग मिले तो क्या तू नगर को नष्ट कर देगा?” यहोवा ने कहा, “यदि मुझे चालीस अच्छे लोग वहाँ मिले तो मैं नगर को नष्ट नहीं करूँगा।”

30 तब इब्राहीम ने कहा, “हे यहोवा कृपा करके मुझ पर नाराज़ न हो। मुझे यह पूछने दे कि यदि नगर में केवल तीस अच्छे लोग हो तो क्या तू नगर को नष्ट करेगा?” यहोवा ने कहा, “यदि मुझे तीस अच्छे लोग वहाँ मिले तो मैं नगर को नष्ट नहीं करूँगा।”

31 तब इब्राहीम ने कहा, “हे यहोवा, क्या मैं तुझे फिर कष्ट दूँ और पूछ लूँ कि यदि बीस ही अच्छे लोग वहाँ हुए तो?” यहोवा ने उत्तर दिया, “अगर मुझे बीस अच्छे लोग मिले तो मैं नगर को नष्ट नहीं करूँगा।”

32 तब इब्राहीम ने कहा, “हे यहोवा तू मुझसे नाराज़ न हो मुझे अन्तिम बार कष्ट देने का मौका दे। यदि तुझे वहाँ दस अच्छे लोग मिले तो तू क्या करेगा?” यहोवा ने कहा, “यदि मुझे नगर में दस अच्छे लोग मिले तो भी मैं नगर को नष्ट नहीं करूँगा।”

33 यहोवा न इब्राहीम से बोलना बन्द कर दिया, इसलिए यहोवा चला गया और इब्राहीम अपने घर लौट आया।

2 And he lifted up ^H5375 ^W-VQY3MS his eyes ^H5869 ^CMD-3MS and looked ^H7200 ^W-VIY3MS , and , lo ^H2009 ^IJEC , three ^H7969 ^NFS men ^H376 ^NMP stood ^H5324 by ^H5921 ^PREP-3MS him : and when he saw ^H7200 ^W-VIY3MS them , he ran ^H7323 to meet ^H7125 them from the tent door ^H6607 , and bowed himself ^H7812 toward the ground ^H776 ^NFS-3FS ,

3 And said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , My Lord ^H136 , if ^H518 ^PART now ^H4994 ^IJEC I have found ^H4672 ^VQQ1MS favor ^H2580 ^NMS in thy sight ^H5869 , pass not away ^H5674 , I pray thee ^H4994 ^IJEC , from ^M-PREP thy servant ^H5650 :

4 Let a little ^H4592 ^AMS water ^H4325 ^OMD , I pray you ^H4994 ^IJEC , be fetched ^H3947 , and wash ^H7364 your feet ^H7272 , and rest yourselves ^H8172 under ^H8478 ^NMS the tree ^H6086 :

6 And Abraham ^H85 hastened ^H4116 into the tent ^H168 unto ^H413 ^PREP Sarah ^H8283 , and said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , Make ready quickly ^H4116 three ^H7969 ^BFS measures ^H5429 of fine ^H5560 meal ^H7058 , knead ^H3888 it , and make ^H6213 cakes upon the hearth ^H5692 .

10 And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , I will certainly return ^H7725 unto ^H413 ^PREP-2MS thee according to the time ^H6256 ^KD-NMS of life ^H2416 ^AFS ; and , lo ^H2009 ^IJEC , Sarah ^H8283 thy wife ^H802 ^CFS-2MS shall have a son ^H1121 . 13 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS unto ^H413 ^PREP Abraham ^H85 , Wherefore ^H4100 ^L-IPRO did Sarah ^H8283 laugh ^H6711 , saying ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , Shall I of a surety ^H552 bear a child ^H3205 , which ^H589 ^W-PPRO-1MS am old ^H2204 ?

14 Is any thing ^H1697 ^VQPMS too hard ^H6381 for the LORD ^H3068 ? At the time appointed ^H4150 I will return ^H7725 ^VQY1MS unto ^H413 ^PREP-2MS thee , according to the time ^H6256 ^KD-NMS of life ^H2416 ^AFS , and Sarah ^H8283 shall have a son ^H1121 .

15 Then Sarah ^H8283 denied ^H3584 , saying ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , I laughed ^H6711 not ^H3808 ^NADV ; for ^H3588 ^CONJ she was afraid ^H3372 . And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , Nay ^H3808 ^NADV ; but ^H3588 ^CONJ thou didst laugh ^H6711 .

16 And the men ^H376 rose up ^H6965 from thence ^H8033 ^M-ADV , and looked ^H8259 toward ^H5921 ^PREP Sodom ^H5467 ^TFS : and Abraham ^H85 went ^H1980 with ^H5973 ^PREP-3MP them to bring them on the way ^H7971 .

17 And the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 , Shall I ^H589 ^PPRO-1MS hide ^H3680 from Abraham ^H85 that thing which ^H834 ^RPRO I ^H589 ^PPRO-1MS do ^H6213 ;

18 Seeing that Abraham ^H85 shall surely become ^H1961 a great ^H1419 ^AMS and mighty ^H6099 nation ^H1471 ^L-NMS , and all ^H3605 ^NMS the nations ^H1471 of the earth ^H776 ^D-GFS shall be blessed ^H1288 ^W-VNQ3MP in him ?

21 I will go down ^H3381 now ^H4994 ^IJEC , and see ^H7200 whether they have done ^H6213 ^VQQ3MP altogether ^H3617 according to the cry ^H6818 of it , which is come ^H935 ^D-AFS unto ^H413 ^PREP-1MS me ; and if ^H518 ^W-PART not ^H3808 ^NADV , I will know ^H3045 .

22 And the men ^H376 ^D-NMP turned their faces ^H6437 from thence ^H8033 ^M-ADV , and went ^H1980 ^W-VQY3MP toward Sodom ^H5467 ^LFS : but Abraham ^H85 stood ^H5975 yet ^H5750 before ^H6440 ^L-CMP the LORD ^H3068 ^NAME-4MS .

23 And Abraham ^H85 drew near ^H5066 , and said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , Wilt thou also ^H637 ^CONJ destroy ^H5595 the righteous ^H6662 ^AMS with ^H5973 ^PREP the wicked ^H7563 ?

24 Peradventure ^H194 ^ADV there be ^H3426 ^PART fifty ^H2572 ^MMP righteous ^H6662 within ^H8432 ^B-NMS the city ^H5892 ^D-GFS : wilt thou also ^H637 ^CONJ destroy ^H5595 and not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR spare ^H5375 ^VQY2MS the place ^H4725 for ^H4616 ^L-CONJ the fifty ^H2572 ^MMP righteous ^H6662 that ^H834 ^RPRO are therein ^H7130 ?

25 That be far ^H2486 ^IJEC-3FS from thee to do ^H6213 after this ^H2088 ^D-PMS manner ^H1697 , to slay ^H4191 the righteous ^H6662 ^AMS with ^H5973 ^PREP the wicked ^H7563 ^AMS : and that the righteous ^H6662 should be ^H1961 ^W-VQQ3MS as the wicked ^H7563 , that be far ^H2486 ^IJEC-3FS from thee : Shall not ^H3808 ^NADV the Judge ^H8199 of all ^H3605 ^NMS the earth ^H776 ^D-GFS do ^H6213 ^VQY3MS right ^H4941 ^NMS ?

26 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , If ^H518 ^PART I find ^H4672 ^VQY1MS in Sodom ^H5467 fifty ^H2572 ^MMP righteous ^H6662 within ^H8432 ^B-NMS the city ^H5892 ^D-GFS , then I will spare ^H5375 all ^H3605 ^L-CMS the place ^H4725 ^D-NMS for their sakes ^H5668 .

27 And Abraham ^H85 answered ^H6030 ^W-VQY3MS and said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , Behold ^H2009 ^IJEC now ^H4994 ^IJEC , I have taken upon ^H2974 me to speak ^H1696 unto ^H413 ^PREP the Lord ^H136 ^EDS , which ^H595 ^W-PPRO-1MS am but dust ^H6083 ^NMS and ashes ^H665 ^W-NMS :

28 Peradventure ^H194 ^ADV there shall lack ^H2637 five ^H2568 of the fifty ^H2572 ^MMP righteous ^H6662 : wilt thou destroy ^H7843 all ^H3605 ^NMS the city ^H5892 ^D-GFS for lack of five ^H2568 ? And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , If ^H518 ^PART I find ^H4672 ^VQY1MS there ^H8033 ^ADV forty ^H705 ^MMP and five ^H2568 , I will not ^H3808 ^NADV destroy ^H7843 it .

29 And he spoke ^H1696 unto ^H413 ^PREP-3MS him yet ^H5750 ^ADV again ^H3254 ^W-VHPMS , and said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , Peradventure ^H194 ^ADV there shall be forty ^H705 ^MMP found ^H4672 there ^H8033 ^ADV . And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , I will not ^H3808 ^NADV do ^H6213 it for forty\'s sake ^H5668 ^B-NMS .

30 And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS unto him , Oh ^H4994 ^IJEC let not ^H408 ^NPAR the Lord ^H136 be angry ^H2734 , and I will speak ^H1696 : Peradventure ^H194 ^ADV there shall thirty ^H7970 ^MMP be found ^H4672 there ^H8033 ^ADV . And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , I will not ^H3808 ^NADV do ^H6213 it , if ^H518 ^PART I find ^H4672 ^VQY1MS thirty ^H7970 there ^H8033 ^ADV .

31 And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , Behold ^H2009 ^IJEC now ^H4994 ^IJEC , I have taken upon ^H2974 me to speak ^H1696 unto ^H413 ^PREP the Lord ^H136 ^EDS : Peradventure ^H194 ^ADV there shall be twenty ^H6242 found ^H4672 there ^H8033 ^ADV . And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , I will not ^H3808 ^NADV destroy ^H7843 it for twenty\'s sake ^H5668 ^B-NMS .

32 And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , Oh ^H4994 ^IJEC let not ^H408 ^NPAR the Lord ^H136 be angry ^H2734 , and I will speak ^H1696 ^W-VPI1MS yet ^H389 ^ADV but this once ^H6471 ^D-GFS : Peradventure ^H194 ^ADV ten ^H6235 shall be found ^H4672 there ^H8033 ^ADV . And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , I will not ^H3808 ^NADV destroy ^H7843 it for ten\'s sake ^H5668 ^B-NMS .

33 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS went his way ^H1980 ^W-VQY3MS , as soon as ^H834 ^K-RPRO he had left ^H3615 communing ^H1696 with ^H413 ^PREP Abraham ^H85 : and Abraham ^H85 returned ^H7725 ^VQQ3MS unto his place ^H4725 .
